We had an alfetta 1.8 some 45 years ago . Terrible gearbox linkage , no second gear when cold. Rusted out in 2 years !! Metal has rust in it from the factory .. fun to drive but on salty roads just a disaster.

Unless he's going to do a major change with the videos, like move into the body shop and start documenting (I wouldn't mind) I'm skeptical he will pick the e28. It would be the right thing for that car, but perhaps done by a different person.

The Alfetta and GTV6 are all you need from this collection. The GTV6 has a rear mounted gearbox giving it 50:50 weight distribution. These cars are becoming rare - most have been eaten by tin worm. Finding rust free examples like these are rare.

Yes on the Alfetta, they are wonderful driving and sounding cars. The GTV-6 may have a higher resale (though you never know, the sedans have a rabid fan base), but the weight of the V6 actually degrades the handling sharpness found in the 4 cylinder cars.

Although it suffered from engine seal problems it was really ahead of its time both in terms of design and engineering. I owned a red M30 1800 when I lived in Madrid and it was one of best cars I've ever owned. I used to go all over Spain and Portugal in it and I never felt tired after a long day's drive. I would definitely take the e28 M5, the doors are the same on all e28's, so finding a spare should not be to hard, the front bumper can be repaired with compound and the b pillar can be pulled back (the roof looks undamaged). The original wheels are for the Michelin TRX milimiter tires, which are rubbish and cost a fortune, change them to a set of period correct BBS.. If the price is right (I would say 10K and no more, since it has a considerate structural damage), and buy a ton spare parts to go and a e23 for good measure (if the price is right). And of course, there's the gorgeous Italian Alfa version of the 3 series, but Italian logic can quickly give you grey hairs...

When a car comes in damaged they’re put on these jigs and measured to make sure they’re within manufacturer tolerances. They’re still used and built in a similar way to this day. Some useless information you might want to know! Brilliant video and completely fascinating! Keep it up 👍🏻👍🏻

This man´s father was a true legend of the 60´s. He was an official rider for Derbi (our most renowned motorcycles in Spain) at a time when racing for Derbi was like racing for Honda in MotoGP. Even his three sons (one of whom must be the one in the video) played well on the european circuits competing in the BMW Boxer Cup and BMW Power Cup with direct support of BMW Motorrad Germany in the early 2000s. The family started in BMW with motorcycles before the 70s, and created a real empire becoming a dealer for many manufacturers, not only cars but also motorcycles (the family still owns some of them). They ran the BMW dealership in Tarragona until 2013.
I can feel this guy's sadness. Seeing everything your family created covered in poo must be daunting, not to mention being forced to sell it. Probably this affliction has a lot to say when it comes to put a realistic price on all these cars. In any case, a real privilege to see this space (which I bet it was the first BMW dealership before moving to one of these iron & glass buildings in the early 2000s)

Interesting information, thanks. BMW forced a lot of smaller dealerships out of business at that time (here in Germany as well) when they didn't or couldn't comply to BMWs demands for huge and shiny new buildings, apparently indispensible for a premium brand and premium prices.

Owner's pricing is... Well they call it delusions of grandeur. Other viewer has it right. They might get someone who isn't really educated on pricing go for it... But they will sit a very long time which breaks the heart. Out here in Idaho I know someone with a massive warehouse filled with cars like this, same thing. I call that a truck farm; planting wrecks in the hope that a truck tree will grow from their crop.

Greetings from Australia. This was a great video and it was good to see 2 individuals talking over the cars with interest in restoration. I have had 2 x BMW E3's one was a 3.3 liter 4 door twin carburetor and the other was the 4 door 3.0si which was my favorite. I also owned a 2002tii, and wish I still did. The E3's in their day both were great cars very comfy good for family. The 3.0si was rather quick for it's day 6.5 sec to 100kph. But you are quite right the early BMW's suffered from huge rust issues. In Australia we don't do or need salt on roads but all makes and models of cars of the early to mid 70's were unprotected so rust was common and certainly more common in cars from Europe, closely followed by the locally designed and produced GMH Holden and Ford Falcon.
I really do enjoy your Chanel your attention to detail, and your intent to make it right before you call it done. It's rare and I applaud you. I have crossed to the dark side and now drive a the latest Audi RS3. Still love all euro cars but I think every ICE car on the road today is collectable as EV's will supersede the ICE cars and most will be compacted and recycled someday we will regret not saving a few to continue driving them for history's sake.
Good luck with your (maybe) purchases. Unfortunately, some people do get an over exaggerated value of collectables and expect you to pay top dollar for a wreck. I'm with you, we don't want to encourage this. The M5 would be lovely to score but the way I see it there are there are huge potential cost exposures with expensive outlays combined with known damage, the hard to fix kind so stick to your thoughts and don't be pressured.
    Cheers

Owner only needs 1 person to pay his asking price.
These cars might do better at auction for him.
The other guy was the selling agent, so telling him "These things go for crazy prices...", isn't a very good way to discourage over pricing.
