Usually there is a red wire that has a fuse on it. If it is an alarm only, then you will have a small red wire with a fuse, usually a red ten amp fuse. If you have a remote start you will usually have two large red wires with green 30 amp fuse. You will pull those fuses if you can find them. Let me know if that helps or if you have more questions.
@@DCAutoEnhancement Hi, I have a RAV 4 2003 that I bought about 3 years ago, that has a remote starter/alarm on it. From the beginning the batteries on the small remote control ran out quickly I had to replace them just after several weeks. Then I got tired of it and hasn't used it at all. Now for some reason the car's battery just ran out every night until it became unrechargeable, so I replaced the car battery but it happens again. This did not happen before though I don't use my car for long drives and sometimes let it sit in cold winter for months (I live on a bus line.) My mechanic who is retiring in couple of weeks refused to help or recommend somebody else in the area to detect the problem. The car still run very well and just passed inspection although the ABS brake light has been on and the mechanic said the brake was OK. Please give me an advice, whether ripping off the alarm/starter will help my problem. Or it may have another cause? Thank you
@@tuongnhicuaanhnguyen it is possible that your alternator isn't charging the battery in your car and that would allow it to discharge. You can take your car to a place like AutoZone and have your alternator checked.
@@DCAutoEnhancement THank you very much for your response. I did take the car to my mechanic after recharging the battery, and of course he did not find anything wrong with it. "The car starts fine and runs fine", said he. I explained the problem to him and did suggest the alternator and he checked it too and tested everything electronic. Nothing wrong, but still the next morning the battery was dead again. The old mechanic says his shop doesn't deal with this kind of electronic problem, too complicated for him. Now I just remove the battery connections when I get home to save the battery. This afternoon I found a place I called. They said it would cost $180 to test and detect the problem/cause. I just don't know whether I should do that, given that it's 21 years old... and then the cost of fixing the problem... I can't afford a new car either. If you remove everything that was not original to the car and reconnect any wires that were cut for the installation, you will be able to operate the car as intended.

I am brand new to this kind of stuff. I think I bit off more than I can chew here 😫I wish my situation was as easy as yours. You found 2 wires obviously belonging together and hanging perfectly. I have a '98 Dodge Durango that when I bought wouldn't start it had an aftermarket remote start installed with no security system but I guess it still had a sequence it had to follow to start after replacing everything to do with starting including fuel pump wires plugs voltage regulator everything from the starter everything crankshaft sensor I had found it I was missing a wire on the crankshaft sensor and I also may have had an issue with the with the relay switch but got it started now it after a few months it's not starting again I don't know I've lost the the remote for the remote start the fob and I'm thinking that maybe that's the reason I can't start it since everything else has been replaced having to remove it I'm just not sure that I am electronically inclined you so but going to do it anyway soon would this actually in fact keep my vehicle from starting not having a remote not being able to do the sequence with it even though it's not a security system just a remote start
Most times a remote start doesn't have a starter kill relay but it is possible. Look for a relay that is connected to a heavy gauge wire that has been cut and a relay installed where the wire is cut. If you have that, simply unhook those wires from the relay and connect the wire back together.
Yes, that can be a cause. Look up how to find a parasitic draw. That will help you determine if it is the alarm or something else. You will need to know how to use a digital multi meter. Or you can just remove the aftermarket alarm and see if that takes care of the problem. What I would do first though, is take the vehicle to a place like AutoZone and have the battery tested.
I have a problem .I got a jeep liberty that came with an avital remote start alarm and the seller took the fuses out from it to disable it...since he lost the fob...I got a new one and a shop reprogrammed it. Then one day the alarm wouldn't activate and my dash showed door ajar...I took the fuses out and I noticed a burning smell.coming from under the dash...I also saw some alarm wires exposed without tape close to metal...Today the shop scanner read all 4 doors are ajar...as the dash cluster does not tell which door is open..You think the wires shorted out from the alarm...and mess up the BCM...also the fuel gauge is erratic reading. Thanks!
In my opinion, I would remove the alarm to verify that nothing is wrong with the vehicle itself. Then if you want the alarm, I would have a shop install a new one.
I have a 91 Caddy brougham . It has a very old alarm installed. Battery went dead several times now i think alarm wont allow car to start. I tried kill switch buttons nothing. If i cut that starter kill relay wired you should and connect wires without relay would that work to start the car again? Or i have to remove whole alarm system like you did?
You are correct, if you find a relay attached to either a purple wire or a yellow wire, cut the relay out and re attach the original wire to get it to start. Removing the alarm completely may be desired because it can cause lights to flash and possibly a horn or siren to sound
@@DCAutoEnhancement thanks i will try to cut that relay first then get it o start. Then take the rest of that spaghetti wiring apart😂😂. And its a ton or it

Great video. Having a little trouble with my 04 pilot. I disconnected all the wires from underneath the dash. Now it won't start. There is another box that is Saturday into my OBD2 and I haven't removed it. Could that be what's not letting the car start. I bought a new harness to go on the back of the key and tumbler to plug into the main fuse box. So that's all new. Just wondering if there is something I should be looking for. Also I cannot seem to locate the starter relay so I'm not sure if that might be the issue. Because I am not getting power to the starter and I checked the starter signal fuse and it's good. Any recommendations
If you replaced that harness from the switch to the fuse box, you should have eliminated any aftermarket devices that would inhibit the starter from functioning.
@@DCAutoEnhancement yeah I definitely did switch the harness completely it's brand new. Now I guess I check the fuses that go to the ignition switch the starter signal fuse and the relay for the starter. That's all I know what todo next TY
Not usually, these aftermarket alarms usually do not interfere with original wiring. However some cars have different wire types for their door locks requiring relays that are installed at a break in the wire or the wiring goes through the alarm. In that case, it is a matter of putting each of the wires back together. What kind of vehicle do you have? Year, make, and model?

@@iamketoman2270 if you remove the aftermarket alarm or keyless entry like what was shown in the video, your fobs will not work. Are you having issues that you believe are linked to the installation of your aftermarket system?
Aftermarket alarms or remote starts should not affect the fuel pump in any way. The only way they could potentially interact is with a remote start. When the ignition is energized, the fuel pump primes. I don't see an aftermarket unit actually causing an issue. I hope this helps. Thank you for watching
@@LarryHickman-m9o they probably had a starter interrupt. In this video I had to reconnect the starter wire because there was a starter interrupt relay aka starter kill relay. Any suggestions as far as removing and getting the controls to work on original immo of car. Oh and this was a nissan installation first when the car was bought back in 2009. Thank you.
Thanks for the feedback. If you can get some information off of the equipment that was installed I can look into how it is integrated into your car. Usually it isn't too difficult to put back to original but sometimes you do have to cut factory wires and wire the bypass in-line on factory wires. But, if you can, get me some info and I'll see what I can do for you.

I paid someone to install a car alarm with a kill switch etc. When I turn on my car I saw that they put a really thick gauge wire which gets extremely hot(touching it burns me), I've cut it and the horn would not stop until I reconnected it. I have a short on my dash and stereo when I turn my turn signals on and I can't seem to find the culprit. When the car is off there is a power draw on multimeter -12.37 and I pulled all fuses to no change
If possible, I would take it back to the person that did the original installation to see what they can do. Obviously that wire shouldn't get hot so there seems to be an issue.
Sorry my response isn't going to be helpful... Anything is possible especially when it comes to electronics. As far as probability, it's not likely that the alarm is the issue if everything was installed properly.

It sounds like your question is geared toward installing a new remote start or installing a new bypass on an existing remote start, is that correct? Thanks for the sub and 👍
yes, in theory it will stop the flow of current to the remote start if there is nothing wrong with the wiring of the remote start. Usually people think about disconnecting a remote start or alarm when they start having electrical issues.
So for me I'm like 90% sure it's the cause of my battery draining completely after 24-48 hours, since I don't drive the car as much anymore and everything else is stock; I've even disconnected the dash cam...

Unfortunately, you will most likely want to disconnect the alarm all together. You will want to find the main fuse for the alarm, usually found in under the dash. If you have just an alarm, you will be looking for a red 10 amp fuse on a small red wire. If you have a remote start, you will be looking for two green 30 amp fuses on two large red wires. In some cases, you will find all three fuses that need removed. I hope this helps.
If they are T-taps, you can leave them but I prefer to remove them and place electrical tape on the wire where the T-taps cut into the insulation. If the connectors are scotch locks, remove them for sure. If you don't know the difference you can Google them and compare the images.
Trace the starter wire, usually there is a starter kill relay that interrupts the starter wire. Depending on what is disconnected, the relay could still be energized or the relay could be bad not allowing power to flow through it. If you need help figuring out which wire is the starter wire, let me know the year make and model.

@@DavidSmith-lg6lj if it turns over, it isn't related to the car alarm. The car alarm (if equipped) interrupts the starter wire, not allowing the car to crank.

What a messy assembly, will drive me nuts, this electronic labyrinth
Hello, Very nice video, I am investigating an intermittent dead battery. Could the aftermarket alarm play a role in this. 04 crv.

Also I cannot seem to locate the starter relay so I'm not sure if that might be the issue. Because I am not getting power to the starter and I checked the starter signal fuse and it's good. Do you have to reprogram to fob to work with the original door locks?
Not usually, these aftermarket alarms usually do not interfere with original wiring. However some cars have different wire types for their door locks requiring relays that are installed at a break in the wire or the wiring goes through the alarm. In that case, it is a matter of putting each of the wires back together. What kind of vehicle do you have? Year, make, and model?

Aftermarket alarms or remote starts should not affect the fuel pump in any way. The only way they could potentially interact is with a remote start. I took the fuses out on an avital alarm...is that good enough
It might be. As long as you aren't having issues with the connections of the wires that should be fine.
I paid someone to install a car alarm with a kill switch etc. When I turn on my car I saw that they put a really thick gauge wire which gets extremely hot(touching it burns me), I've cut it and the horn would not stop until I reconnected it. When the car is off there is a power draw on multimeter -12.37 and I pulled all fuses to no change
If possible, I would take it back to the person that did the original installation to see what they can do. Obviously that wire shouldn't get hot so there seems to be an issue.

In theory, is it sufficient to just disconnect the ground wire of the remote starter to "disconnect" it from the car altogether?
yes, in theory it will stop the flow of current to the remote start if there is nothing wrong with the wiring of the remote start. Usually people think about disconnecting a remote start or alarm when they start having electrical issues.
