- Removing the aftermarket alarm system from a Toyota Tacoma. Should be similar on most any car with a universal alarm.

Best video ive seen so far on how to remove these stupid old cheap alarms
Thank you, kind of funny how popular they were and now they are just a nuisance.
Now I'm confident enough to go get my F-250 going. Thank you Sir
Yeah, get that old junk out of there. They cause all kinds of problems. Good luck!
Thank you so much! I remove the alarm on my car. The remote don't work so now I can drive my car. Great video. Save headaches and money.
Hector Monfil so glad to hear it helped. Thanks for watching.
Great video! Working on pulling an old Viper alarm on our 88 Supra this afternoon fingers crossed!
@@rockymountaintcg4220 good luck, those old alarms cause a lot of headaches after they get aged.
Hello sir, just wanted to say thank you for the video. Had to remove the aftermarket alarm because of the same issue with one of my vehicles. Greatly appreciated.👍
Glad it helped a bit. I’m sure many of these systems are different but most of the stuff is similar enough.
Great video Tom, I remember back in the day when I used to work on cars having to constantly tear these things out from shitty installations!
Dmitri Ivanov I didn’t realize what problems they caused. Really not bad to remove. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for the great video. I'm having issues with the same alarm in my 95 toyota pickup and now I'm ready to get rid of the alarm. Knew that it would be a good video with a fellow air force airman making it!
Ahh, well I’m a Navy guy but both of my kids served in the Air Force. All good, thanks for your service.
Thank you you gave me the faith after this video I did kinda same steps on my dads impala and it work 👍
Great to hear. These old alarm systems cause a lot of problems!
Great Video ! I love your simple realistic down to earth ways 😊
It’s just me being me. 😀
Thank-You for taking the time to make the vid, Hi from YUKON, Canada..
My pleasure! I rode through Yukon a few years ago, beautiful place. Bet it’s plenty cold now.
hey Tom simple explanation works for me... thank you
These things aren’t too difficult but wiring does intimidate people. Glad the video helped you!
Haha great job! I have a 25 year old Miata and it has some kinda jank system like your truck and it fell out of the dash because the zip ties broke and mine is way harder to follow than yours but after seeing your video I’ll give it a try again. My car runs and drives fine it’s just annoying having wires dangling all over my legs haha
Shannon Naccarati this was the first one I removed but I have done a few more since then...they are all pretty similar, you should have no problem. Good luck, let me know how it goes.
Very cool. Thank you.
Cheers Charlie
It’s crazy how many issues these old alarm systems cause.
Good morning sir thanks for taking the time to post this. I have a question, I have a Avital remote start on my 2005 Ford 250. Since my remote does not work,
whenever I connect the battery the alarm is sounding (I’m assuming it’s because I haven’t disarmed it with the unlock button from the remote since the remote stopped working yesterday and left me stranded since I could not start up truck) can I still proceed with these steps you provided even if my alarm is sounding whenever I connect battery? Sorry I’m
not so knowledge with car alarms. Thanks
You should be fine, just completely remove the wiring, alarm siren, etc and ensure you hook the wiring back to original configuration. Best of luck.
@@TomsTinkeringandAdventures thank you
My buddy’s and I used to do Toyota commercials and we came up with that Saying 🤔😎😂
What saying is that?
Thanks for the tutorial. The alarm system would randomly cut power to my truck and wont start. So i would have to reconnect my battery and override so i can start the truck
@@santibouphavong these old systems cause lots of problems. I have to help my dad take one off his truck next time I visit.
Thanks for the video man! I just bought a 99 honda civic and the car alarm has gone off 3 times tonight. I just disconnected the power for now, but I'll cut the system out tomorrow after class. Anyways, after seeing this video it's not as complicated as I thought it'd be. Thanks again!
X you’re welcome. I hadn’t ever done it before, it was pretty straightforward, at least in this situation. Good luck and let me know how it goes!
@@TomsTinkeringandAdventures Nice, yea it was easy. The whole process took like 45 min for me and now my cars not annoying anymore lol
X that’s awesome!
I disconnected my battery and my FN alarm still goes on WTF!
@@urnew i would just remove your fuse for the horns or just disconnect the power to them lol
I was wondering that was a 20 amp fuse connected to my aftermarket alarm system. Do I do I need to somehow hook that back up
If it wasn’t part of the factory harness then get rid of it
Awesome video. You just saved me 500$.
dude26999 woohoo! I like hearing stories like that!
My boy and his friends worked on the truck for three days. I had an hour drive to meet him. Watched your video on the way. 20 minutes and it worked first try
dude26999 awesome!
Great job Tom,, nice looking truck we have 2 Toyotas 16 rav4 and a 07 Corolla we love them,, I have a 06 Ford Ranger truck as well..
Tom Smales I have never owned a Toyota. Honda has been our go to for the last 12 years. This should be a good truck when I get done
My new car battery in my 1994 Cougar goes dead after a couple of days, is it possible the old viper alarm could be the cause?
I’d bet you $5 that it is!
@@TomsTinkeringandAdventures I will give an update. Thanks again.
@@bobgil3464 good, because I need to know where to send the $5 if I was wrong!
Question i had partially removed one of these systems ( as in i just pulled out the big 8 prong out of the after market alarm part) because i had a failed fob and i could not be asked to deal with it at the time, and the carlock light was on permanently (which i just ignored) because it didn't seem like it did anything other than being an eye sore, fast forward a few months later and im just stranded when i turn the key absolutely nothing happens. in your opinion do you think this would be a delayed issue with partially removing the alarm system from the car? for ref the car is a 2012 chevy (hell)malibu 2.4l
I can’t say for sure, but most of these systems are easy enough to remove that it’s just best to get it out of there to eliminate doubt.
Hey Tom I am having the same problem on my pickup, nothing will start, I already removed the siren and everything. Still can’t get it to start. Any suggestions?
Double check that you have removed all of the aftermarket alarm wiring and have reconnected the stock wiring. These old alarms cause a lot of problems!
I Think these systems connect to the ignition switch as an immobilizer. If you end up in hell you will undoubtedly see these alarm guys living there!
Very helpful thank you.
Glad it was useful, thanks for watching.
Any idea how the override works? I have a 2008 sienna base model that appears to have a dealer-installed system. There's a momentary pushbutton on the kick panel and then a red led that flashes when you lock the doors. I'm not having problems except that it toots the horn when locking and unlocking. I'd like to disable this feature.
They are all pretty similar, honestly it’s best to remove the entire thing because it will fail and leave you stranded.
@@TomsTinkeringandAdventures Good point. I had thought about leaving it and dealing with the horn toot when I lock and unlock. But if I test it by arming it, waiting a minute and then reaching through the window and manually unlocking the door, nothing happens. So it's basically an annoyance and potential problem. I just need to figure out where a brown wire goes that goes to the center of the dash somewhere..
Thanks brother. I have a 2000 Tecoma and my alarm crapped out so truck won't start. I'll be removing the alarm this week.
A Ryan I hope it’s as straightforward as this one was. Considering I had never messed with one of these before, it was not hard to figure out.
Nice truck, i love that color.
It was a great truck , sold it to a buddy and he has fixed all the little issues....probably get half a million miles on it!
Yes I do remember those adverts
At least someone does! 😂
Mine is an alarm/immobilizer will this removal method be the same, and will I be able start my car?
Well they are all pretty similar. I removed an immobilizer from our old RV and it was pretty easy. Best of luck!
NIce job Tom. Couldn't we just remove the fuse powering the system and just leave it?
Maybe, but like cancer it’s best to try to remove all of it if you can.
Lost my fob and the negative is a bit corroded on my battery. Can't put battery back on without it going off. Same speaker, so i think this will be similar for me. Hope it works!
These old systems cause a lot of issues. They are all pretty similar, take your time and pay attention, it’s kind of obvious how it all goes back together once you remove the stuff. Best of luck.
@@TomsTinkeringandAdventures (very little electric experience) seems to be a decent job. just confused on what i need to re attach. they have 2 connectors by the fuse box inside under left drivers that i cant identify and the light, toggle switch. also a small black box by the door that seems to interact with the stock interior light automatic door switch. The smaller alarm box had 4 attachment pins that i just popped out. Ill have to go get pins to fit these, a crimper and wires to finish the job as they didnt leave any slack.
working on a 94 toyota pickup.
Ok.
Subscribed and 👍👍👍
I hope the video helped you out. Happy holidays, thanks for watching.
Would a the alarm system would cause a crank no start ?
Probably not, but it’s possible. These older systems cause a lot of issues.
@@TomsTinkeringandAdventures turned I my LS400 has bad capacitors on its ECU. Sent out to SIA Electronics so Let’s see how it goes. I’ll drop videos on it
@@LalwaBhai interesting, I had never heard of that.
It was " I love what you do for me Toyota!"
Oh what a feeling…Toyota! 😂
I rebuilt my starter, replaced the clutch switch, ignition switch, and starter relay still no crank. The alarm is my last option car would start then it wouldn't now it wont start at all no crank no start
Well I don’t know if the alarm removal will help, sounds like you need to get some good old fashioned troubleshooting going on with a test light/multi meter. Good luck!
I will be trying this on my Toyota 4runner. It's a 96, and it starts but as soon as ignition is off and doors are shut the alarm goes off until key is turned back on.so I'm removing siren and alarm system cause I'm tired of it. As of right now I have the battery out because I dont want to hear it screaming all night lol
VORTEX so many of these old systems fail causing issues. I hope it’s as straightforward as this one was for me. Thanks for watching.
Hi I like your video I do believe that your a smart guy to figured out all those wires I would love to have you don't just the same on my 2000 Toyota Tacoma prerunner v6.if you don't mind.
It’s really not too difficult, jump in there and give it a try!
AWESOME.. my GMC Sierra it's giving me so much problem with the Clifford alarm system. SMH
Hopefully you can get it removed, so many of these old systems cause issues.
you never once showed the complete alarm for reference. just showed yourself cutting wires. what type of plug set up it had would of been a big help ..to see where the wires came from
Well every system is going to be a bit different, the idea is just to follow the wiring and eliminate the system. Sorry, hopefully you can get it figured out.
I came into this really hoping I could just unplug my code alarm and get my car back to working without a vampire drain on it's electronics but this is looking like it's going to cost me almost as much again as the damages incurred by the idiots who installed it in the first place
It’s not that difficult, take your time and you can figure it out.
@@TomsTinkeringandAdventures I had a mechanic remove it. It really was a shame.
@@Seravat7 well, hopefully the vehicle is better without it!
@@TomsTinkeringandAdventures yeah, though I had a panic after that when my electronics started going out.Turns out one of the bolts on the battery hold-down was gone and the metal retainer was grounding the battery to the frame on rough roads. D: Got that fixed now, and it's been a dream since!
Too bad that tacoma doesn't have the original key
Is the original key special? I don’t know…
@@TomsTinkeringandAdventures the original key had black plastic around the head of the key, not just a bare steel key.
@@21Million thanks. It’s a pretty good truck, my buddy got it and is enjoying it
