I had the same issue. Fixed it by upgrading the Software to the current version. Lookup the other guys that download the software to the USB and install it to the truck. Also includes most current Maps. I think thats all those guys do that sell you the APIM for 500 bucks.

Same happened to me with my sync 2. I just went ahead for the price and bought on Amazon a sync 3 upgrade. Super easy and fixed the issue and now i have android auto 😂😂

Did you have to program anything? Because I just got off the phone with Ford and they quoted me $636 (not including labor) for the APIM and then started to tell me that it has to be programmed and they can only do it. Is that true?
I didn't program anything but the vendor did with the VIN I provided to them of my truck when I purchased the APIM. It is not true that Ford is the only ones that can program. Clearly not as you can see in my video. It appears either they are lying to you or they are not aware that others have learned to program APIMs for any vehicle. You have to get it programed.
Good to know!!! My truck is a 2020 and mine just started acting up... it started with the backup camera staying on when shifting out of reverse. Then the black screen, which I found how to reset... now it constantly changes the background to daytime even at night (which I prefer night settings all the time)... I bought the extended warranty but unsure if this is covered or just power train. I will how to call the dealer to see, but regardless, I'm so glad I found your video!!! When my bad APIM was identified these were my observations. Did not work: all finger touch controls, screen was frozen in split screen with navigation on one side and blank screen on the other side. And it remained on this “broken” split view for the 2 months that it took me to pull the trigger and fix it. Also the passenger cooled, heated, and massage functions did not work. (Which was restored when the APIM was replaced.) What did work: radio but I had to use the sync assistance from steering wheel functions to switch between Bluetooth or radio stations, Apple CarPlay worked but not the touch controls on the truck (as mentioned above), rear camera worked and also the physical camera button but I couldn’t zoom in on the tow hitch because it requires touch control. The rear camera did glitch badly. Glitched so bad the rear sensor alarm started using sound effects from a different vehicle (maybe explorer or navigator). Sounds to me that probably we don’t have the same problem and it may be a different issue, or not. Probably. My issues are totally opposite of yours.

@@NZthinker yes. It was the APIM, the computer on the backside of the screen. After further research I concluded that was the issue. I ordered one on Amazon and I installed it myself. I think I paid around $400 for it which was way better than the $750 the dealership wanted, not including labor. It was pretty quick to change it out. I got a plastic trim removal tool kit from Harbor Freight for like $8 and knocked it out in 30 minutes. There’s a few good videos here that give a good walkthrough.
i think ebay. the part number is irrelevant for the most part. Its based on compatibility and annotated prior to paying. Programming is to your VIN is the key.

Better choice is your opinion. Less problems would indeed be to replace apim and remain stock if you have KR or higher. You may lose factory functionality based on what trim you have. My king ranch would probably loose the interface to turn on massage seats. But I believe there is one company that has an interface that allows you to access factory settings using aftermarket radio. You have to buy a control module and program it And you can program all physical radio button including on the steering wheel to do whatever function available. If you have a lariat or lower I don’t see a reason why aftermarket would be a competitive choice.

I’m definitely not going to go after market, but some of the after market ones don’t need to plug in the usb cable to access the Apple CarPlay witch is pretty cool but maybe not worth the headache
@@daves485 I actually don’t like wireless Carplay. Because it will always connect even when I don’t want it to. I have wired. 1 cable that connects my phone to carplay and the other on my 110 outlet just for power. But if wireless is the only thing you’re looking for I don’t think it’s worth it. I don’t think you have sync 3. If it’s compatible you will have to upgrade from mysync (which is what I believe you have) or wtv it’s called to sync 3 which is possible in trucks.

I ordered a programmed Sync 3 APIM. When checking out i added a note to the comment box prior to clicking “process payment”. The note included the vin of my truck. And the seller uses that to program it for your truck. And it literally is a remove and replace apim. Turn key and go.
@@mikedirlam1458 you need a Windows computer. A formatted usb stick like 8GB or 32GB. Go to owner dot ford dot com and read everything until you find a download sync3 link. You will need to enter your vin so the proper one is downloaded. Once you connect that stick to truck i left my truck engine running for 45 minutes to update

Online literally. Don’t remember where. The seller required you to submit your VIN at checkout so they can program it prior to shipping. And then when it arrives to you, remove and replace.

After reading the hundreds of comments when it just be smarter to buy the right truck in the first place? Ford has a known problem with these sync modules. But that's just like a failing company to deny deny deny until the government makes them do something
@@twinturboranch454 I was looking at the history of the company and the fact that they put a product on the street that they knew was a problem through the second generation modules. More problems with the third generation and they didn't extend the warranty at all so there are thousands of customers that need to replace $1,000 module parts and labor. Inexcusable. Or maybe having twice as many recalls as any other American company? Doesn't make a lot of sense to buy Every Man's truck when you look at the big picture does it?
Every manufacturer has specific parts that have a high failure rate. Our Tahoe was on its 3rd transmission at 209k miles. Our Toyota had a broken frame from rust. At 170k miles our Expedition has had new plugs, a water pump, front brake pads, tires and now the APIM. In comparison it has been far cheaper to operate.

My original APIM part number is QL3T-14G370-KL. Research throughly prior to purchasing.

Yes. Has to be programmed to my VIN. It’s from a newer truck. So yes it’s used.
My 2018 f150 is doing odd stuff it will not update at all won’t keep time and my compass will not keep track.

Would replacing the spin be a better choice and less problematic then just replacing with an upgraded unit like a pioneer or alpine?

Depending of the year truck that you have the same module is located in the top of the dash or behind the display. And yes they need to be programmed

Maybe. But i would update your software via usb. Do that first before you replace.
