I want this engine in the GR86. Toyota MAKE IT HAPPEN.
It will not fit in the GR 86’s current layout.
Yeah, GR86 has an engine from 20 years ago... Still no turbo. It is reliable and makes the car cheaper but it is outdated
@@RaitisRides I know. I meant the next generation coming up. And Joe. Keep it up 💯.
Add 3 more cyl and put it on supra 😂
@@ponibrojokobro1397 500 hp Supra...adequate for buying milk and picking up the kid. 1 kid. You can fit 1 kid in the car.
that torque converter will last twice as long as a dual clutch thats why they went with that reliability
You are correct

The engines aren't even lasting
You have to do some serious cooling for a 300hp 3 cylinder. 300hp in a 4 cylinder already gets an engine cooking but a 3 cylinder is suppose to be good? Idk if they need a bigger intercooler or reroute some stuff to take care of temperatures efficiently but they're running that engine hard. It seems like the engines need a better cooling system or there is a design flaw that they need to fix to get better cooling.
@@RandyOrtonsfatherI traded my gr86 for a grc. The GRC runs way cooler than the 86 when I'm pushing it. 220F vs 250F
I was always interested in Honda Civic Type R but they never offered it with automatic transmission. There are many folks out there who can't drive stick but are interested in sports cars. Toyota realized that they can sell lot more GR Corollas by offering a automatic transmission.
Not being able to drive stick isn't a real problem. I learned to drive my first manual car on the way out of the dealer lot. It's not complicated.
The bigger problem is that a manual stuck in traffic for 2 hours is a real pain.
The dealership marks up is gonna be crazy 😂
simple dont buy or offer them ur price
Used ones are becoming more commonly for sale. Starting to drop below MSRP finally for used ones. As more and more get sold and more model years pass by the markups will disappear and turn to incentives and discounts.
Got mine new under msrp as did others. Use the internet, pick up the phone, and you pay msrp or less.
@@Mario-lj7gm What was your OTD price? Just curious, want to see what kind of deal i can get.
@@li0lo806 I paid $1,500 below msrp on a Circuit Edition. It’s all about timing and seeing how many are coming and where and working the supply and demand to your advantage at a moment’s notice. I got lucky. Most are paying msrp.
At least there’s no CVT
Not like what Subaru did with the WRX GT
Whats wrong with CVT? Its actually great. Williams wanted one in the 90s but wernt allowed to use it

Big Shot Out to Toyota for giving the consumer that doesn't drive a manual transmission, or don't want to all the time. The option to get a top sporty trim with an auto. Would it had been dope with an DCT, oh yeah, but I will take this option. Honda needs to take notes. Hyundai, Volkswagen, Nissan and now Toyota are giving the options people want. This car will sell well.
@@muffinxcancer I gave VW it's props in my statement.
Yes yes YEEEEEEESSSSS!!! This is exactly what Honda should've done with their Type R. Give people an option between manual and automatic. Open up the market rather than limiting it to just one transmission. I absolutely LOVE IT!!!
Ya for those lazy bones unable to get off the couch to learn three pedals
@@mohamedalkaboom ya. And there's nothing wrong with that. Nobody should force themselves to learn 3 pedals either.
👍🏻😍@@kickstand801
no. These cars are not for that “market” they’re for enthusiasts who want to drive a manual
@TylerSL92 I fully understand that. But Joe has a point. Brands like Hyundai, VW and now Toyota are providing manual and automatic options. Now anyone can buy these cars! Creating vehicles that will give you the ultimate driving experience is one thing, but at the end of the day you want your product to sell. And now that the GR Corolla comes with both manual and automatic, the Type R doesn't stand a chance, at least in terms of sales in my opinion.
I like the Automatic!
Well here it is for you
Front fascia looks great, but the loss of the fogs is unfortunate. Also sad is losing the forged BBS wheels that the Circuit had. The auto is fine if you need it, but the manual's a lot more fun.
Excellent points for sure!
BBS are about 4~5lbs lighter per corner which is a lot for rotational unsprung weight. 😢
Very glad to see all the improvements, automatic as well.. works great in cities, and just taking relaxing trips…
Hello Joe. The engine displacement is a 1.6 litre and not a 1.3 litre as mentioned at 1:30.
I'm Glad The Automatic Transmission On The Toyota GR Corolla Because I Was Obsessed With It When It First Came Out.
I have a 2021 VN and also love this car. Eventually this will be my next car...Wish they would offer other colors than red, black white and silver . I have the performance blue and love it. Can't wait to see then new GR in person!!!
I like to see the GR Corolla automatic vs Honda Civic Type R drag race. Honda need to put automatic in Civic type R and Si model.
The GR Corolla is expensive, but it should appeal to more buyers since it will be available as an automatic.
If I buy this car, it'll be with the auto, because sometimes I drive 115 miles round trip through urban traffic, and no one is going to give me the Silver Star for shifting from first to second to neutral 600 times.
The engine has also been strengthened hence the added torque. strengthened pistons, new exhaust valves, higher fuel pressure, and a new air pressure sensor. The Direct Shift automatic is actually faster than the Manual and Track times are the same or slightly better with the auto.
Springs have been improved, shocks redesigned, bigger sway bar, better sway bar mounting points and sub radiator to help cool the automatic on the premium level + and many more improvements including graphics on the dash. It's basically a much better car.
Oh man. Now depending on availability, it’s going to be the auto Corolla or the Ioniq 5N for me next year.
Automatic is for me
I’m glad this is perfect for you
Why didn't you mention, if you drive over 85 mph, your warranty is void ?
I smell something burning
Joe and Lori and Steve keep up the good work real true and I love the video 👍
I won’t lie I a base GR with bolt ons was pulling on my dct veloster N with bolt ons. Might upgrade lol
Oh wow! I guess if you can’t beat them, join them
I own a MK7 Golf R and will be looking closely at one of these next year
Oh wow! That is super serious
Given your racing background, I'd like to see you get your hands on a 24 and a 25 to see how the suspension changes really compare.
"Let's see what our money gets us. TO THE DOOR PANELS!!"
Fantastic!I hope the top trim at least comes with Rear AC Vents but I'm probably asking too much lol.
Love it, needs arm rest, glad for automatic, cities, long distance, overall much better and needed.
Can’t wait.
I’m so glad that you are excited for this one
Wish there was sooner news about this, I recently bought an Elantra N because it was the only one out of the three (Elantra N, GR, Type R) that was offered in a manual. I get manual is fun but I can’t stand Miami traffic with a manual. Still love my EN tho, would probably look into this model in the future
I saw one of these at the dealership the other day. Very nice!
They look fantastic
It's obvious that Toyota is way more tuned into the pulse of customers than Honda is. I'm a long time Honda owner/driver - had a couple of Toyotas in the family too - but these days I am disgusted how this company, Honda, summarily dismisses their own customers wishes. They charge extra to de-content their cars, while Toyota adds content... and value. Keep it up Honda and watch how many people defect over to the competition that still understands the principle of "bang for the buck."
I totally understand where you are coming from Steveo!
@@RaitisRides Have to give a Raiti Zonk when it's called for, no matter who it is and like you know, Joe, resting on laurels is not how you maintain your spot at the top. You tell it like it is, my man - just trying to do the same and constructive criticism only benefits any company . . . if they listen!
Cumbersome is a song by 7 Mary 3. Where can we order those shirts by the way?
3 cylinder. Sounds awesome
Wait until BMW reveals their 3-cylinder performance engine to the world of high-performance vehicles.
I want one but not looking forward to a $500+ monthly payment 😅, looks great thou!
There’s not really any intrinsic reason why a torque converter auto would shift any slower than a DCT. In both cases the actual shift is accomplished by swapping which clutch packs are applied. The shift speed is more of a tuning issue or hydraulic circuit issue.
Automatic will be around the $45k to $50k for premium plus? Between the DAT GR Corolla and the '25 4Runner, I have some pros and cons to figure out for my next vehicle.
I hope it is 45k
I want to trade my '24 CE for this but sucks we losing the wheels.
I wanted one but I will wait and see what happens with the multiple fire debacles followed by Toyota's AI like response to them.
I wonder what the upgradeability of the auto will be performance wise compared to the manual, how strong the transmission will be.
I’m excited for the automatic trans. I’m over manuals.
I'd have to have a manual transmission if I bought one of those. Plus a free $100,000 candy bar in the cubbyhole.
Alright Joe let’s see what we got here
Heck yeah brother!
Please ask these questions next time you are near a Toyota representative to see if we can have the answers:
No center console arm rest and or storage space yet? The excuse was that it was a manual transmission only car. What's the excuse this time? And when will they get rid of the dust and fingerprints collecting piano black interior parts? Did they already fixed the infotainment issues? What about the hidden tracking and information sending computer that sends information without your knowledge to Toyota, dealerships and insurance companies? When will the steering wheel can be telescoped and tilt further upwards and towards the driver? When will they use bigger brakes at the back? I find it abnormal and asymetrical that manufacturers pay too much attention to the front brakes when is always better to have a rear-bias braking balance for both hard cornering and extensive use. Is the trunk space enhanced? Why they don't give us the motor with at least 100 HP more and 107 more torque for a more rounded number of 400 and call it the 400 edition? (I call dibs if they really make this one)
Now I can buy one for my wife!! She can't drive my Type R.
I had a feeling Toyota is going to offer it in an Automatic 👍
so the extra radiator is an option on the lower trims? Want the premium plus....but hate the carbon roof.
i like the new front end but i’ll keep my 24 premium with the 6 speed 😄
Even though I'm a manual guy .. kudos to Toyota for spending tons of money (which they will probably never recoup on the low-volume GR C) for their customers .... GM are you listening???
100 HP for each cylinder is like put one hundred eggs in one basket, plus a "blender" called Turbo in your basket. I am sure whoever buys it would have fun with it......🤣🤣🤣

🔥 GR manual for me only !
Toyota is NOT honoring their warranties. If you drive the car 85 mph (or more), Toyota will not honor the warranty.
That is terrible to hear!
You Mark my Words.... The Gr Corolla will not have a manual transmission for 2026 model.
At least their attempting to Innovate with a DAT instead of a lazy refresh
Well performance automatics have been around for years. Not to sure I would call it an innovation
Much rather have the manual. My relatives don't ask to borrow it.
I like the way that you think!
It has a 1.6 liter engine. NOT 1.3 liter
Thanks for that insight!
I'm giving you 3 Zonks on this video. Zonk 1-you didn't review it in person like so many have done already. Zonk 2-there has NEVER been a front diff issue. Not a rear diff issue either. The issue has come from the "center" diff. I say "center" because it's mounted to the front of the rear diff housing. When it overheats, power is reduced and the car becomes all FWD. And Zonk 3-you left out the most important part of the DAT. The Direct Automatic Transmission name has meaning. I watched a video with the Toyota engineers explaining it for the GR Yaris. The short version is that is locks the converter up between every gear for a direct connection, versus slipping in the slush box. It should accelerate faster due to the closer gear ratios. Hope you get to drive it soon and let us know what you think.
Pretty much the most attractive automatic hatchback hot or not. depends on the msrp!
Why didn't you mention the engines catching fire?
Why would I?
They need to have a bigger screen than an 8”. That’s holding me back. I just don’t understand why they wouldn’t when pretty much every competition does. I’m a huge audio guy and that’s a deal breaker for me. Hope they upgrade soon, love love love the automatic though and everything else.
Many car enthusiasts hate big screens they like to just enjoy the experience.
"I'm a huge audio guy and I want a bigger video screen." OK
How many Twinkie’s per cylinder would fit under the hood?
Watching you show google images of the cars is not what we’re here for … how can you do on throttle with just pictures ?
Stick or auto? I'm personally ambivalent, but since we all share our cars, Auto.
Wish Toyota had a car that directly competes with a CTR and EN. An actual sporty sedan or what not. There's nothing in the Toyota lineup that interests me at all for my next car.
Well this is what they want as their competitor I guess.

Poor sales because of low production, interest rates and dealer markups.. not because people don’t want it.
