Thanks so much for this review!! Bought the Zephyrus S17 laptop (the 165Hz screen variant) and it was delivered to me yesterday. Playing Cyberpunk 2077 atm... For me, the GPU temp does rise to ~83 °C (on Manual mode with fans turned to max speed) when I play for more than 35-40 mins.. yesterday I was playing on turbo and it had gone upto 86 °C. The CPU temp seem fine I guess... Late 60s to early/mid 70s. Performance wise, didn't find any issues. Btw I had changed the display to dgpu in the BIOS (from Dynamic). Online benchmarks do say that the GPU temp should be ~75-76 °C using similar settings.. I do get 75-76 °C of GPU temp, but I noticed it depends on the starting temp of the system.. for example, at the time of starting the game, if the temp is around 37-38 degrees, then the GPU does start at 75, keeps at
@FRESTEN ..it depends on ur usage and req. - if u want a thinner and lighter then m16 and if u are happy with heavy and thick then legion 7 ..legion 7 will definitely outperform m16 as it has higher tgp and legion 7i is yet to launch so in legion 7 u will get amd and m16 offers intel 11th gen 8 core ..so all comes down for what u want laptop , what are ur req. and what is ur budget
You need thunderbolt? M16. You need a numpad? Legion 7. Need neither nor webcam? G15. I chose the Legion 7 and don't regret it. It is quite heavy at 2.5kg but the build quality is there.
Alienware M15R5 with 5800H and 3070, temps went up to 102C for CPU in Battlefield 5 within 5 min at full fan speed and on a laptop stand and AC was blasting in the room. The laptop was connected to LG CX via HDMI 2.1. Temps held steady at 102C and the game ran smoothly. Laptop screen, the temps were at 90C to 98C. Disabled Hybrid mode (mux switch) in BIOS and max temps went down to 98C. Called Dell, they did testing and said everything was fine. I am still within return period . I don't know if anyone knows whether external display leads to extreme high temps as seen with my laptop.

Wish I was watching for the stream! Your videos are great and I love the depth! I purchased an M16 this week and I like it I really do... BUT the heat exhaust blowing onto the screen gets pretty hot and I just don't feel comfortable with that and the power brick got hot af after gaming for 30 mins. No one seems to really know forsure if it will affect the screen or not but for how much money you drop on this I'm not willing to take the chance. Asus should have stated specifically it won't affect it or came out and said that now since everyone is questioning it. The legion 5 pro is available on their website rn so I pulled the trigger and likely will return the m16 to best buy.

Thanks for keeping your sheet updated on the daily! One thing that bugs me... The "GPU Point Per $$$" column might be better expressed as "Cost per GPU point". For instance, the lower-ranked MSI GF65 is $999 and has a TimeSpy score of 7,268. If you take Cost/Score, you get $0.14 per point. While the high-scoring MSI GE76 at $3399 scores 12,678 points, you pay more for them ($0.27 per point). Intuitively, the price you pay for each point might resonate with folks better to assess relative value or bang-for-the-buck. Alternatively, if you don't like that idea, maybe just remove the leading $ and then you'll have the actual "GPU Points per Dollar" reflected in Points, not US Dollars. :) Again, props for all your hard work, great videos, excellent insights, and hard work. Now if you could just influence the actual chip fab speeds so I wouldn't still be on month 6 of waiting for my laptop...

@@AlexMacho765 it's true, but if gaming isn't your priority. Also there are more applications which benefit from a higher TDP than there are from more cuda cores. The only point which you'd consider here though is the VRAM. Realistically there isn't much difference between 6 and 8gb, also if VRAM is indeed important to you, you need to be settling with an RTX 3080 with 16gb VRAM, not with anything less as you'd be limited to 8.
How did you get your wall to light up when you're talking? Anyways, not having display outs at the rear or right side, and the lack of print screen button were deal breakers for me. I dock my laptop and extend the screen with the external monitor to the left, so cables would get in the way. And the Windows key + PrtSc screenshots are super convenient.
@@slipperysnake5045 nope. Depends on the game. Dave 2d tested a handful of games at 1440p and the m16 was even or only behind a few frames in all of them. YMMV so best to check the games you play before making overarching statements. To be fair though, I'm finding a lot of results all over the place, even from other notable youtubers like Jarrod. Hard to know what to think. The place I like to buy from, Best Buy, doesn't carry the 3070 version so it's kind of a mute point for me. Getting the 3060 version almost brand new for sub $1,500 is a pretty sweet deal in my book though (open box, satisfactory is ~$1,480).

I decided to reinstall the Gpu driver. I uninstalled it from device manger and did a fresh install. Now it’s using the Igpu instead of Gpu now. How can I fix this ?
wow my laptop 2080S gets 10180 in timespy.. I thought 3060 was supposed to be as fast as 2080 and 3070 even faster? So much for that LOL. Cpu was 9980 so that means the 11900h is being throttle in M16? Mine should be slower, the 10980HK.
Not alike. You don't compare laptops of different classes. Msi is 2 lbs heavier and is also thicker. The same reason the chonkier legion 5 pro runs it's components at much higher power limits
In matter of screen quality yes no competition since the legion 5 pro (2021) has 2k 500nits hdr dolby 165hz gsync freesync screen. In matter of gaming i am sorry to disappoint you but the msi gp66, gp76 or ge66, ge76 are all better (mostly) with 10th gen intel cpu. And the new 11th gen cpu is much better, both at gaming and productivity (which is the field of Amd). They are still both excellent laptops.

People don't use their laptops in streaks of 5-10 minutes of heavy duty tasks, they use it for hours and after couple of minutes heat, throttling etc show it's ugly head. Legion gives best performance for prolonged period of time(you don't game for 10 minutes, you game for hours) and these are gaming laptops at the end of the day. Also, CPUs are really less important in gaming, they are good enough, cooler ones are better. Also price difference is enormous(so, it's kinda not fair comparison) and also check another dead giveaway, check power bricks, you'll see 230w/300w on Lenovo, also, no one is stopping Lenovo to put Intel CPUs if they end up being way better in the long run, no one is fanboi.
@@noonerelevant2583 the msi models quoted have the best existing coolers in the market, there are many benchs where you can see msi gp model (not the premium model of msi) reaching max 60 degree and the lenovo reaching more than 70 in the same game with same conditions. You are right about the price for the GE model, the GP model price is more closer to Lenovo. Also i am not a fanboy this Lenovo is an excellent laptop, i am waiting for the new Lenovo 5i pro with 11th gen intel, it will be a beast for sure !

IDK. on what metrics they sort prices, but I do feel that big players kinda sliced the market among themselves. Me, personally would really like to buy some Eluktronics models, but they are just not worth it importing from USA when you count in import taxes and transport services and they don't have any HQ in Europe. I believe you about MSI GP yet price/performance still cant come close to LL5(here..) and..Legion 5 just looks so much better and I know that shouldn't be important but, it is. Will check those MSI models, but, I got myself LL5 and I see in front of me how good everything is, CP2077 all maxed(DLSS Quality) and in Ansel GPU shows 64 Celsius ?!?...

Just a question : Do you mainly downscale the resolution to 1080p to have more fps instead of playing in native 1600p? And also does it appear blurry when you downscale ?

Legion 7 as it has better thermal performance and higher TGP with the same screen as the Zephyrus M16.

There are videos that shows that even a lighter directly on the screen doesn't affect it at all. Everyone seems worried about this with no reason!

This is such a strange pairing i9 11900h with 3060. Better to lower the price and go for i7 11800h + 3060...
yea 3060 is a hard sell for me at 1849 but dave2d found this thing to match the g15 amd 3070 at the same price atleast in games
