      @ehtasam2080 That is a hot take. The iPad Pro has always had one of the best displays for a tablet. 600nits is not alot when the iPad goes well over a thousand. Also when you are streaming, lower response times dont really make a difference. If anything the anti reflective coating is ALSO available on the new iPad even though it dumbs the picture quality by alot (this is why Macs didnt have antireflective coatings in the past). Though Samsung probably makes iPad displays, Apples integration of hardware and software is miles better. Its Apples greed to lock down the iPad to prevent the Mac sales from being hurt.

      I have always been an impatient web surfer. Along with a base M1 Mini, I currently have both an 9th gen iPad and M1 iPad Air 5. The speed and response difference is night and day....to the point that the 9th gen rarely gets used anymore. I am hoping that the upcoming base M4 Mini will offer an even greater (clearly visible) performance boost relative to the OG Mini. No question that Apple Silicon has been a game changer for the entire industry.

      @iagomorandi6543 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +16

      Yes, the main issue of apple is RAM, and i don`t know the why but they do this intentionally, the ipad pro has 12gb of ram but apple limits it to 8gb using software, so you pay 12gb and receive only 8gb cause apple want this. and a similar issue with iphone, 8gb in a high end iphone is a shame, we have smartphones with 16gb or until 24gb in the android side, but apple just brings 8gb in 2024, the limited RAM made all other iphones not have access to apple intelligence due low RAM despide the good processor, anyway A18 has the same issue as the M3 had in macbooks too, he is limited by RAM, we have a lot of videos showing us that just double the RAM to 16gb double the performance, it means that the only limitation in the chip is RAM, RAM is so cheap so it make no sense...

      @scratchanitch 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      Yeah, as a developer RAM is pretty important for my workflow. My work M1 Pro has 32GB and honestly is the first time I've stopped caring about our refresh cycle. Sure I'll happily accept a shiny new computer, but it probably won't impact my workflow/productivity much. However, the cost of RAM does make it difficult for me to justify a decent home "geek" system. It's somewhat sad that my RAM needs (databases and K8s/docker) are still best served by a 6,1 trashcan.

    • @abubakrakram6208
      @abubakrakram6208 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      This isn’t really a product problem, it’s a price problem. The machines are too expensive for the amount of RAM there is. As for getting a MacBook with more RAM, the solution is pretty simple: don’t buy the base model. That’s what I’ve had to do, and, although it’s begrudgingly, I think most people can do that. We should all be happy about a price decrease. I’m just saying that, that’s somethings so benign to me that I can’t really get excited about a new product for that reason.

    For the GPUs, when we look at the A series chips in iPhones the A18 Pro which is derived from M4 does strangely have double the raytracing performance of the previous A17 Pro which is based on M3. In pure rasterisation performance it is about 20% faster. So I do think something is new. That doubling in raytracing performance should provide great improvements for workloads such as blender

    My hope is that the M4 Max chip in a Mac Studio can beat or rival the performance of an RTX 4080 because I’ve been planning for so long to move away from a Windows set up, but as a 3D Artist and Animator, it’s difficult for me to put down money on an Apple Silicon Product, that was until I got the iPad Pro 1TB model with it’s 16GB.
    Seriously, the M4 has been amazing when it comes to 3D Sculpting and now having ZBrush on my iPad Max, just awesome!
    So if the new Mac Studio comes with an M4 Pro chip and it does amazingly in Blender, I’ll drop money down for it and finally be able to say goodbye to Windows (Though I’ll keep my Desktop PC and turn it into a Linux Render Farm PC for any complex renders)

    OK, been waiting for the MacMini.... can't say l’m too stoked about the shrinkage. The current design works, so why change it? By making the case smaller, it means that if you have (as I will) all ports with connected cables, I'm hoping that it will still be heavy enough to not want to move around on the desk if you plug/unplug a cable, or use the rumoured SD card slot for whatever reason. Also, for the Pro chip, I can't help but wonder as to the thermals of a smaller case. Will it throttle? Who knows.

  • @ekinteko
    @ekinteko 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

    I've said this from Day 1.
    If you follow closely, you can figure out what Apple is planning. In an era where Android/ARM Phones hit a plateau with the QSD 865, they were already behind the legendary A13. Then came the A14 and M1.
    That is why I told people: don't wait buy now. The M1 iPad will hold up for many years, and so will the M1 Max chipset inside the MacBook Pro (14in).
    With the A15, I noticed the upgrades, it was good and focused on efficiency. They traded these gains for performance on the M2 Pro/Max/Ultra. But I did not think it was a worthy upgrade, and my recommendation was to go for the previous ones on a steep discount. I noted that the next generation will probably be more worthy.
    Before the next-gen came we got the A16 and I was very disappointed. We got no architectural and no lithography improvements. It was basically the A15 pushed to 11. This was a bad omen. Then we got the M3 Lineup, and the fears were confirmed. This was basically the A15/A16 turned upto 12/10 and using a bad node. Based on that we also got the A17 chipset which was also flawed (high heat, low battery, little performance difference). The culprit was Apple, they were unable to innovate on the architectural side. And the culprit was TSMC, we were not seeing the +35% upgrade that was promised.
    Well, it seems they weren't entirely lying. They saved that for the "mature" silicon and called it gen-2. And we saw Apple take advantage of this with the M4 iPad. So likely we would see these upgrades with the A18. And we just did, having about an extra +20% performance at roughly -20% the energy. This will interpret and scale up with the M4 Pro (mainstream) but more-so with the flagship M4 Max chipset. And due to the hiatus, we can probably expect an M4 Ultra too, with great performance.
    All this to say, Apple has stolen the wind from under Qualcomm. The QC 8g4 was exciting.... but the A18 Pro. And while the Windows Ultrabooks (aka ARMbooks) looked very promising, now with the M4 Max arguably using less battery for more performance, and higher optimisations, would make the MacBook's a more desirable option. And it is a no-contest with tablets with the iPad's wiping the floor in terms of Apps, Optimisation, and Sales Numbers as opposed to Android Tablets.
    I only wish we also get an updated iPad Mini, and they either go with an overclocked A18 Pro chipset, or just give us one with the M1 on a discount. I don't want Apple to raise it's price higher and cheap out with a croppy A16 chipset. That is what the rumours say.

    The M4 Mac Mini is going to be absolutely terrible. The Mac Mini doesn't need to be any smaller, especially since they're going to remove a bunch of ports, forcing me to use dongles and hubs. It's going to take up even MORE space on my desk while looking ugly as heck due to the hubs and dongles I'm going to have to use. If they made the footprint 50% smaller but made it taller with at least 8x Thunderbolt ports, it would be a good redesign, but you know they're going to remove everything except for maybe 2x Thunderbolt ports, maybe 4x Thunderbolt ports on the Max/Ultra chips. Right now the Mac Mini has 4x Thunderbolt ports AND 2x USB A ports, allowing you to connect up to 6x USB devices. It also has HDMI, ethernet, etc. This redesign isn't about giving us a better computer. It's about forcing people who actually need a computer with ports to pay an extra $1,000+ for a Mac Studio.

      @@abubakrakram6208 Are you kidding me? The Mac Mini has as many ports as you can physically fit on it. If they make it smaller, it's 100% guaranteed to lose ports because all of the ports that are on the current Mac Mini won't fit. The only way they can avoid losing ports is if they replace all the ports with Thunderbolt/USB-C and stack them on top of each other for a total of 8 and I just don't see Apple doing that. They want you to buy the Mac Studio for $1,000+ more. It would be great though. Imagine USB-C/Thunderbolt for everything, including power. Then you can buy USB-C to other types of port adapters individually either from Apple or third parties. I'd be totally okay with this because all of the Thunderbolt ports on my Mac Mini have a USB-C to USB-A adapter on them. Ignoring 2016-2019 (because they were a disaster) we gave up upgradable storage and memory for extraordinary efficiency, silence, battery life and performance for that low power consumption. I really don't want to go back to MacBooks that scream the second you open Safari.
    Of course there is the eco-system benefits wise, but pushing more and more power through these chips and or expanding them means they'll produce more heat and consume more power reducing the two primary hardware benefits of the M series, those being battery life and thermals. So while excited to see what these new chips entail I'm a bit apprehensive towards their release. Though of course time will tell whether my concerns are legitimate or simply anxious ramblings. lmao

      @cs1-p5e I don't know if I agree that raw power is more important. I daily an M1 as a developer in PHPStorm and it works perfect. Is video editing really CPU intensive? I certainly wouldn't care if they pumped the watts out on their desktops and went efficiency on their laptops, or at least more efficiency focused.

    I think at 1:38 you mean M4 has 33% fewer P cores, not 50%, which would've been a "jump" from 4P to 6P, but we're not going backwards in generations.
    Also, at 6:19, isn't the jump from M2 represented by:
    1.17 (M2>M3) x 1.22 (M3>M4) ...so 43%?
    Just curious. Can't wait to grab an M4 MBA!

    The extend of the base config from 8 Gb to 16 Gb will come of course on the cost that the entry price will jump at least on the amount the upgrade costs today so a MBA M2 bas costs 1099€ a MBA M3 base costs 1199€ a MBA M4 base will cost (thats my prediction) at least 1299+230 € so the entry price increase with this generation will come 330€ instead of 100€ what was the generation price increase in the past for the new generation. For those taking 16 GB anyway it would be the price increase as usual, for those taking the base (whatever this is) this time the generation priceincrease will be at least tripple the money. More intersting how apple handles this with the bigger models where allready sufficient RAM was installed. so would a PRO or MAX only have the usual increase or in repect to the higher priceincrease of the MBA Base model the price increase will be substantial with the M4 generation.
