    Outstanding video! Thank you for sharing. I have a 2004 GTI VR6. The car overheated once in a traffic jam on a California freeway during a hot day with the air conditioner running. I never found the cause of the problem. The fan works. Since that incident, I have kept the air conditioner off unless I'm cruising at highway speeds. My assumption was that the engine was not getting enough cooling air and that the fan was not strong enough to handle high temperatures with minimal airflow. Your video gives me better guidance on how to further troubleshoot the fans.

      Glad to help! A few cheap options are: Make sure you clean the radiator fins of all bugs and dirt, check thermostat (place spring in bowering water to see it contract), check temp sensor. if it overheats run the heater to help cool it down; you will be hot but the heater core will allow additional cooling on the coolant, I’ve done this multiple times in a Honda Civic and the Jetta.

    I have a R32 and I feel like the engine bay heats up. My temp sensor says is at 190 but when I open the hood everything feels hot. That doesn't happen with my gti. Is it normal

      The engine bay and engine will not be the same since the sensor regulates the engine coolant/ water jackets as does the thermostat. That’s why you buy a thermostat it’s rated by temperature. The engine bay gets a lot of heat from the headers since that’s where the combustion exits. You can see the temperature in the bay by using a laser thermometer 🌡. Also if it’s super hot 🥵 you want to make sure you aerodynamic lower plastic is on because it’s designed to direct heat while driving. Also, lowered cars trap more heat due to the asphalt heat and not allowing exhaust heat to easily displace. You might be able to google engine bay expected heat or ask someone who has one to compare too. There are a lot of variables for the heat difference.

    I have a 1.8T golf MKIV and I have the triangle light with exclamation point, limp mode, brake lights on permanently, abs light, overheating... I´m buying rigth now a new fuse box hoping that will save me.

      Did the box have a meltdown? I think the sparking from the weak connection triggered unsafe to drive to the brain causing this to go into limp. Because I unplugged the battery for over an hour to temporarily fix the issue but all it does is reset the brain including the abs until it picks up the loose connection again.

    I love VW vr6 engines BUT too much plastic on them , everything breaks easily . My car’s fans won’t turn on at temperature , thought it was the “ fan switch “ that goes on the bottom part of the radiator , was told that was a common problem on these VR6 as well causing fans not to come on . I think mine might be the fuse box like yours . I haven’t started my car yet to check if changing out the fan switch worked due to blowing a hole in the thermostat housing right by the thermostat itself causing a mess . Also these VW VR6 & 1.8 mk4 are difficult to burp the coolant system .

      I agree these are for the people who love to work on them. I myself gave the car to the impound to hopefully help others who need these expensive pieces because I had too much money tied up in it already and it needed a timing chain replacement and everything else that you have to do in order to reassemble it $1k in parts.

      @@ProjectAnubisUSA awww man , yeah timing chain replacement is a must to do on the VR6 engines on these cars . I heard at 100,000 miles is when the timing chain replacement needs to be done on the VR6 engines . How many miles did your jetta have when the impound lot took it ???

      @@Mrfurballs it was 75k If I recall, which isn’t much and it had all those problems already

    hello project anubis mine still over heating i replace the fuse box and still not kicking the rare thing is that when i press the ac on is the only way to keep it cool but if i turn off the ac start over heating again any other clue to find out why is this happening ?

    • @ProjectAnubisUSA
      @ProjectAnubisUSA  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Gero Azmodii I know if you turn the heater on to any vehicle on while it’s overheating it will help drop the temperature because it circulates the fluid through the heater core giving it time to cool the fluids. Maybe the AC is generating a similar effect... if you have a stuck thermostat which doesn’t open up completely your car will overheat because the fluid cannot circulate through the radiator fast enough to allow it to cool, instead it stays in the engine causing the fluid to stay hot. The Jetta also has a small electric water pump by the intake tube which also helps push fluid through the hoses (my truck doesn’t have one since it is simple and larger hoses but vw has lots of small hoses that need pressure to allow flow) this could also cause overheating if it’s not spinning and blocking the passageway. The fuse box was causing the ABS light to turn on and go into limp mode (15 mph) because it belted and would loose fuse connection.
      The reason mine was overheating was because cracked hoses and a loss of fluid. I replaced one at a time and every week I had another break. Tucks can tolerate a bit more heat and malfunctions because the tube sizes. I replaced them all to fix that issue and recommended if you have the money replace all of them to prevent the headache and $$$ for fluid.
      Hope this helps somewhat, if your looking for a new car in California the SALMA AUTOMALL is offering 200k and or 20 year warranty on 10 car manufacturers.
      Good luck

      PROJECT ANUBIS thanks for that fast reply actually I'm out now working on the car and you know what also I have seem that coming up the termostact and the temperature sensor kind of late right now to replace those but maybe tomorrow I'll do it myself thanks for the input.

      Gero Azmodii one way to check the thermostat is get hot water 190 or over car temp an submerge it to see if the spring collapses all the way. Use water if you replace it to see if it still heats up if it works out use the radiator drain on driver side to drain the water and add antifreeze so you don’t waste $$$ like I have. Also air in the radiator system can cause air pockets causing an increase in temperature. Open your lid (before your engine is hot) then start the car and watch for bubbles by the fill up area run it opens rev it a bit in the driveway until it reaches temperature, this will allow all the air to escape the lines. Close it up and drive around the block, some cars need to have the front elevated while doing this to get air out of the heater core (sloshing sound inside the car when turning will distinguish this).
      Hope this works out for you

      Gero Azmodii NOTE: I just remembered a few other things! Watch the end (link) to see how to get air out the radiator. Also when replacing the thermostat or buying the complete setup (housing and thermostat together) make sure you take it apart and RTV it the housing by the thermostat and engine mounting surface. I had leaks in both areas on a brand new complete setup because the plastic is not perfect out of the mold (small gaps the oring did not seal either) nor machined.

    Im not clear with the limp mode how do i get rid of it .. usually just start the engine again when it happens but why does it happen? Any help

    • @ProjectAnubisUSA
      @ProjectAnubisUSA  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Eduardo Lopez limp mode can be caused by anything the manufacturer sees your car’s issues unfit to drive with. It could be brakes usually ABS issues, in my case it was a melted fuse box (common with these cars) that was causing the ABS to malfunction (ASR and BRAKE light lit up). Limp mode will only allow the car to accelerate 10-20 mph the jus rev if you continue to accelerate. This is so the car won’t cause an accident if you have brake problems (brakes locking up, bad ABS module, ect). I only know a little bit about VW’s, hopefully this helps steer you in the right direction.

      Eduardo Lopez I never finished fixing the car after I found out that it was a timing chain that jumped as well because the timing chain guides broke and it would cost $1000 or more with my labor to fix. The overheating issue could be caused by a thermostat that is located near the battery side mine continuously had leaks from the pipes and tubes that ran around the area as well as a cracked thermostat housing. If you replace the thermostat housing make sure you use RTV around it and as well take apart the housing to put our RTV around the O ring because the plastic was warped on the new one. If your thermostat is bad you can also check it by placing it in hot water and watching the spring collapse this simulates the heat of the coolant. It could also be a faulty gauge giving you a fake read out causing your car to think it’s overheating. You said the black wire is off that may go to the electronic water pump that circulates the fluid in the vehicle that is located near the intake tube but I am not 100% on that being the issue
