I appreciate the suggestion With this type of splitter, I would like to get a bagger or build my own wrap station or something I have not researched them much yet, so I’ll check the kind you are talking about
I think I know of a better log splitter you could get. Buy a used Multipress industrial hydraulic press. They're cheap used. Then modify it to cut wood. You'll need a power converter to get 3-phase power but it'll be more robust than the one in this video and it can be used for other things with minimal modification.
That is by far the best design for most people. The only issue I have with what I see is the table height is too low. It needs to be raised up to help prevent your hands and arms from naturally being at the top of the round when the cylinder is moving. Me being 6’4”, that’s even a bigger concern. As I watch you split, your arms and hands are constantly in the most dangerous area, which is at the top of the wood being split. If the table is raised up to where your natural tendency is to grab the wood in the middle it would be much safer to use. Just my opinion and observation. Maybe that’s something that could be adjusted for when ordering one, but probably not. Definitely looks like a well made unit and simple. Congrats
Yep and for a company with a couple decades of experience you'd think they'd know by now the optimum height because that platform is obviously too low IMO.
It's a function of height and stability. If you go too high it becomes unstable because you're adding to the size of the log lift (so it still reaches the ground) They made mine 30" high instead of the stock 27" and I'm 6'....it's fine, not hunched over at all.
I purchased a double with the conveyor 6 years ago we do 1500 to 2500 cords a year mostly small fireplace wood for the ski area condos this wood splitter has tripled our output without much of a increase in labor also the quality and consistency of the product is much improved It is the heart of our operation 12000 cords with only a few repairs
Hey good day Brock. Congrats! You are going to love the vertical split - having the log lift and the big work table is such a benefit to your back and the ability to manage the splits. I have the Eastonmade AXIS and for our current needs, the vertical splitter is great. Enjoy it! Looking forward to your reviews in the future as you get more experience using it. And hey, it's made in Canada I think, Eh? !! :)) Cheers!

Thanks. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate the people like yourself who have stuck with me all this time. Having a strong core audience is the key to me being able to do this
It is a great splitter, I received mine this week. They'll even custom your table height for a few bucks which basically covers the materials to make the log lift a bit bigger. I went with the electric start too so I could run a small LED light and split if it gets dark...😁 It's not as robust as an Eastonmsde Axis, but it doesnt come with the price tag either.....and you can move it around by hand which is pretty much impossible wirh the Axis.
I'd appreciate an adjustable table, cos I'm tall. The welds look a mess, but as you say it's simple to repair, if they broke. Thanks for doing the research work. My horizontal splitter might be replaced because of this! 👍
Congrats on 100K Brock!!! Check out one eye customs for Doug’s small improvements on this type of splitter. Motor cover, nut protector and closer shutoff switch from operator station. Glad you’re able to get this to try for free for a year.
To be fair a whole lot of the commercial splitters and wood processors are built in Canada. As long as it works and its good quality doesn't matter much where its made but I know a lot of the companies building this sort of equipment are Canadian.
I'm a little on the older side I buy green cord wood and re split it and season. I'm just starting out. Sold 600 plus bags this year. Just starting to do high end residents. I love splitting wood. Great machine. I'm looking at a super split kinetic splitter. I live in Massachusetts so its close for me
Woohoo!! 100k good job buddy, that splitter is slick. Simple fast and powerful, im sure its going to be a great splitter for you. For bundle wood these vertical splitters cant be beat!
I am an Industrial Engineer Consultant, still working at 88. My wood splitter is 50 years old. It has a 5 inch Cat cylinder with a HD rod and 3 foot stroke. I replaced the 12 hp Briggs with a Duromax with starter. The gear pump is hooked to a jack shaft with a 4;1 ratio. Hydraulic pumps do not word well over 1200 rpm unless supercharged. The wedge is at the far end and the platen is on the cylinder rod. This means the twist from the wood grain reacts to the frame and not the cylinder. Plus, it is self cleaning. I like your Power Split vertical concept. My experience is to use gravity. You should only have to lift the round once and everything else should be down hill. Having an input and out put table is a plus. It agrees with the many metal fabrication plants I have worked with. My position when splitting is sitting on a cushion and I can roll my rounds (up to 3 foot fir)into the jaws using my shoulders and knees instead of my back. Plus there is storage on input and output which reduces the amount of getting up and handling the wood. A big issue is SAFETY. You are dealing with a force and machine that can easily cut off a finger, arm, leg or a body in two without any warning. The vertical work is concentrated directly in front of the operator who positions the block and initiates the cutting without interference from helpers. The operation configuration is both safer and productive. I agree with your intuition that a smaller machine from a builder of large is better than the reverse. Probably why I believe; Get Smart , Get Trump, he has been dealing with world trade for years. Iguana
I had never seen that particular machine before and I am impressed! I am all about simplicity and ease of maintenance and that machine looks like it has those things covered without sacrificing functionality. Fantastic and congrats on the 100k subs!
Great choice on that powersplit, even if you just get to borrow it for the year. I have looked into their self propelled models and have always been super impressed with the quality of thier product. Commercial splitters arent light, and having self propelled options makes its nice for someone like me, that doesnt have a tractor or means of moving my splitter around. Stay safe Brock✌️ -Jack
@jeremycollett2753 I decided what I wanted after testing different brands and then I contacted them and asked them if they would send it to me to demonstrate on the channel
My only negative I see with this splitter is the cost. As you said it's very simple in design and function. So my question is why over $9000.00 dollars for something that is very basic. I understand it's built beefy and strong but that can't justify that kind of cost in my opinion. Sorry for the negativity and I think it's a great splitter but I really think they could do better on the cost since I'm sure the markup is very high.
I agree on your observations.. I love the design and simplicity of it. The table should be taller off the ground, 30 to 32" sounds about right for the table height. You could probably make the height adjustable but that adds a lot of complexity unless you just raise the whole thing from the axle. I've been looking for a great design to build for myself and this one fits the bill nicely. I have a one man fabrication shop... I can definitely build this just from looking at the pictures. Your probably looking at close to $4000 in materials at "one off" prices, for the quality of materials and hydraulics put into this thing. If one had the inclination to shop around and perhaps use some lesser quality but equally capable parts, the materials could probably had for around $2000, which is the route I'd probably take. There's quite a bit of labor involved, but if one is doing it as a labor of love and a fun project who cares.
In the right wood, my Wolfe Ridge will beat the Power-Split in production. But for making the best looking firewood possible, a good vertical splitter will smoke mine in the pretty firewood department. Which makes it tough on which style of splitter to choose.
those splitter were invented and made in Quebec, Canada by power split international. Great product but watch your fingers. those splitter are the one's rental store rent. i hear story of someone as loose half is hand with this. always leave your hands on each side of the logs never never let a finger on top of the log. there is a learning curve there but doable.
I have the best log spitter ever. It's called two Grandsons that are strong like bull that will always help Grandma and Grandpa. Cut, split, stacked and put in the house. The only payment is Grandma's cooking.
Everything about that splitter makes sense. The only small negative I see is that the splitting table is 6-8 inches too low. Leaning forward for hours and hours of splitting makes for poor posture and a sore back. Great vid. Thanks!
I see just a couple comments on price. Seriously guys? This shows how we completely lost sight on what things should cost. $9,000 for this is simply outrageous.
@@RockhillfarmYT Well, this is non-sense. And I don’t mean this as an insult. It is honestly way too expensive for what it is. Something like this should cost somewhere in the ballpark of $4,000 to $5,000. They just charge way too much, probably another case of small boutique shop syndrome.
I understand why the table is not adjustable. I went to their website. There's 1/2 or 3/4 steel reinforcing the deck. It will take a LOT of weight and will be stable, not be flimsy. It's also built for for options that need to be really strong. If that's a problem for the tall folks, just build the deck up...fashion a couple of 2 x12s together. (I did a screenshot highlighting underneath build but can't post picture or the link)
Two issues I see is all blocks have to be cut square at least on one end and the wedge dont go all the way down. I dont have all self splitting wood like you have, I have lot of yellow birch and beech which are stringy wood, so lot of times I have run my ram right to the end, I'm not a fan of pull yank tug to get split wood apart, I'm the only one that sharpens a splitter wedge........
I think anybody with any welding skills at all could build one of those out of a 1200 dollar big box store splitter, some sheet metal , for about a forth of the cost of that one.
@@RockhillfarmYT they are awesome but I bet in a few years the prices come way down when competitors start producing them cheaper. Not saying they are not quality by 9 k is outrageous for that models. People got money to blow and that’s why we have 90k trucks. WOW, SUPER WICKED COOL BROTHER... I'LL HAVE TO SAVE UP FOR THIS OR SELL MY BODY. THE LATTER OF WHICH IS LEAST APPLICABLE... STAY COOL BROTHER... PEACE FROM CREEL CHIHUAHUA, MEXICO...
Did you meet the girls from Lumber Capital Log Yard? They cut lumber for the family business. Also, demo several pieces of equipment. One is similar to your new splitter.
Great video. I now have another option to add to my search. Several questions on your totes…1) Have you found them to be ideal for what you do or are there better options, and 2) I noticed some of the totes had the fronts removed…do totes come like this or did you need to modify them? Thank you.
I cut the fronts out of them. I’ve been really happy with using them. The customers always bring them back after emptying out the firewood. As long as you can find them at a reasonable price. Here is my video on the totes. Are IBC Totes Really Worth Using for Firewood? th-cam.com/video/kcndkQWms7I/w-d-xo.html
I took a quick look at this splitter and maybe someone else has noticed this, but why do they have the filter after the manifold? Why are they not filtering before it goes through the pump and manifold?? Any rust or debris are going to potentially go through the entire system before being filtered out.
i've run this splitter for 2 yrs. no the table is not to low. you want to be able to look at the top of the rounds when splitting. its a super fast. works great on wood with straight grain. it will get stuck in oak or stuff that would be stubborn. the splitter uses a flywheel weight which is how they get away with smaller engine but still has good power. eastonmade boxwedge setup it a better design. both are way overpriced. you can buy a miller mig welder, steel and hydraulics and still have 5k to put towards a mini excavator. one with a hydraulic thumb works the best
A lot of comments about the table height. Can you address that in an upcoming video? Also, what is the height of that table? It looks like you had a slight slouch, and I just think of how much my back would hurt (I’m over 6’3”). I don’t comment much, but do watch almost all of the videos. Congrats on the 100k mark.
Safety violation! Look at the video at at 12:24 . Overconfidence can lead to a bad habit can lead to and accident. (Ask me how I know). Great demo on splitting dried slabs; thats what I need for my tiny stove.
I been looking at Easton axis. I decided on a vertical setup like this. how many brands offer a vertical splitter like this. I am just starting my research. I have a tym t494 with fransgarde sk-950 log grapple. similar design to frostbite but heavier despite being made of hardox. made in Denmark. great fit and finish. about $500 more than frostbite. $23-$2400 as I recall with all brackets. I got to say the fit and finish is a cut above.great for full load or picking that one log u want.ya don't see many vidjas on Fransgard the 950 is for a t574 size machine. the 1400 is for 75-130 hp tractor or skid. the smaller one is way beefier than frostbite.MADE BY VIKINGS I think jswoodhouse or Cummings&Bricker dealers
Off the top of my head, I know four brands. Split force is a copy of this splitter. Easton made and Wolfridge have their own versions that are probably more robust, but also cost more
@@RockhillfarmYT Thank you for such a quick reply and resolving my headache of trying to figure this out. :P I've been searching and searching and just couldn't figure out what they were. You're awesome.
I really like that style splitter. If my firewood business continues to grow I might look into one. It takes a LOT of firewood to justify the price though
I did not know it when I ordered mine but you can get it made 3 inches taller. The height has not really bothered me but I do think the ideal height would be a little taller.
I have watched several guys run there professional splitters..but your all splitting straight grain seasoned wood..is like to see how well they run on some really knotty wood..pine or spruce..hemlock
We never have pine on my property or any kind of softwood. I don’t know what I happen to have this day in that video but I’ve got a bunch of videos running this splitter and 90% of it is oak. I also did a video where I sought out some of the hardest wood to split like gum and Hickory

We didn’t get there until Sunday and most of the other channels had already left.
I watched their videos, but did not get to meet them.

Looks sweet
Wow nice machine
I’ve been using it for a few months and I’m really happy with it
yeah, nice unit
I took a quick look at this splitter and maybe someone else has noticed this, but why do they have the filter after the manifold? Why are they not filtering before it goes through the pump and manifold?? Any rust or debris are going to potentially go through the entire system before being filtered out.
Looks like a fantastic splitter. But for a guy who might need to split 5 cords a year, I can’t justify the price of this beauty
It would be great to add a laser to help aim where the hammer will land.
Thanks!
Thank you
i've run this splitter for 2 yrs. no the table is not to low. you want to be able to look at the top of the rounds when splitting. its a super fast. works great on wood with straight grain. it will get stuck in oak or stuff that would be stubborn.
the splitter uses a flywheel weight which is how they get away with smaller engine but still has good power.
eastonmade boxwedge setup it a better design. both are way overpriced. you can buy a miller mig welder, steel and hydraulics and still have 5k to put towards a mini excavator. one with a hydraulic thumb works the best
Need to get you a bundler!
I actually have a bundler more
Awesome to see Bruce force commenting. I love your splitters.
I looked at them quite a bit at the Paul Bunyan Show
A lot of comments about the table height.
Hello, good work. I have question, how it work so fast? What kind of pump do you have there?
Topeka KS! That's where I live. 👍🏿
I’m in Columbus Kansas. Topeka, maybe three hours.
@@RockhillfarmYT where is their shop located in Topeka? I couldn't find it online. Thanks
Easton made and Wolfridge have their own versions that are probably more robust, but also cost more
Can you make me 100 tooth pick? 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Nice machine .
Omg # 2 I was waiting for it to post and it did and I'm a looser lol
Dis is amazing
That's a really nice machine but them welds are pretty gobby
What are those metal crates that are holding your firewood? What are they called and where can I get them?
they are IBC totes and can usually be found on Facebook marketplace
Here is a video about them: th-cam.com/video/kcndkQWms7I/w-d-xo.html
@@RockhillfarmYT Thank you for such a quick reply and resolving my headache of trying to figure this out. :P I've been searching and searching and just couldn't figure out what they were. You're awesome.
I wonder why they would make the table so incredibly low?? Other than that it looks awesome
The hydraulic cylinder looks small. How does the log splitter do with a piece of hickory or knotty wet oak?
I really like that style splitter. If my firewood business continues to grow I might look into one. It takes a LOT of firewood to justify the price though
That is true. You also need a factor and how long you will have it. Should last you 20 years
@@RockhillfarmYT that’s true
I could do that all day 👍🏻
Very nice, one thing I am 6’1 and that look pretty low to me. So might not be good for your back.
, they have a version with us taller table. I didn’t know that when I ordered mine.
Did they give you any suggestions for how to raise the machine. If you wanted? How do you like/dislike the height as is?
I did not know it when I ordered mine but you can get it made 3 inches taller. The height has not really bothered me but I do think the ideal height would be a little taller.
I like it I want one
Just did some splitting for tomorrows video. Love the splitter
I really like it, what the odds of a set to set on ??😊
It would b nice to have it where the table would raise and lower to what size of wood
hi there real nice splitter , did we meet at the PB show . john
We didn’t. Unfortunately, I was only there on Sunday. I did see you on the hard working man video
hi we closed up the spot around 12 for the long drive home , maybe next year . john@@RockhillfarmYT
how much do the stacks in those metal frames weigh?
What kind of wood are you splitting
You remind me of the bionic man , how fast u work ! Lol
Did you get any options they show on the website?
