I did this back when I was 14 ( 1972 ) mad enough to buy my first truck with cash in 76 . Now at 60 I have my son and grandson working the splinters and delivering wood on the weekends.
Way better than my 22 year old 22 ton brave but at a average of 300 4x8 by 16" stacks per year you gotta lot of catching up to do like you content very informative and well said 👏 👍
Park the tactor with a bucket or IBC at the back of the splitter, fill up as you go, save your back a little. Using a Finnish Palax Combi MII here, probably a less expensive machine, but not suited to larger diameter logs like you're splitting. Great throughput though, and has its own built-in shiftable conveyor.
YOU DID A GREAT JOB. IVE NEVER LISTENED BEFORE AND YOU GAVE AN HONEST EVALUATION. GOOD JOB. IM SURE SHE WILL LET U BUY MORE SINCE THE MONEY IS COMING IN. SERIOUSLY, GOOD JOB.
I built a table top vertical splitter like the Eastonmade Axis only lots bigger and heavier. I load the logs with my tractor It can 36" easy. I've never split so fast. It''s not as fast as a commercial rig but it's fast Standing operation never bending over is the Bomb~!!
Nice splitter! I'm using a harbour freight electric splitter, so a bit slower than that one. For $200 bucks it does a surprising job. I've split some pretty big pieces, somewhere around a couple hundred pound maple rounds. I use the forks on tractor to pick them up and lower them to the spitter, keeping the weight on the forks. Can't put their full weight on the spitter, i'm afraid it would bend it.
VERY nice. need to down size main cylinder if you wanted to push fast. at the speed that big cylinder is moving you should have lots of pump volume. i un-bolt my splitter & attch to mine excavator. VERY nice that will keep a good team moving
The log lift is a great feature, be more respectful of it though. You have your pile right there, you look strong enough, don’t load the lift so heavy. No need when your pile is right next to the machine. Overloading, even though the lift will , in fact lift that much, will put unnecessary stress on the frame. Things will twist and break sooner. Ahh you don’t talk near as much as some tubers. Great machine
This is a good point. I don't know what the lift is rated for, but the hydraulic cylinder is NOT the weak point. If the mfg says load it full and run it like you stole it, then go for it. Otherwise, be mindful of their recommendations. Once the machine gets tweeked, you'll wish you had been a little more careful.
Thanks for posting the video. This looks like a nice splitter but I refuse to do business with places that have a "request a quote" option on their site when they have standardized products, or even when you can customize it. Pretty easy to create a quote customizer (See Woodmizer). That just means they are embarrassed by their high price tag. It's the same concept as a used car salesman not posting a price on a car they have for sale.
Dude. Stop running it all the way back. Judge the size and stop wasting run time. And how much for this thing? The quote only website is costing them business. Look at the comments. I’m sorry for being a grump. Love your work. Be well.
When you place the logs, start them against the splitter, rather than against the plunger plate. That way they stay where you put them and you don’t have to guide them to the splitter.
It's kinda good --- kinda not. It's a little more complicated, but I think with time and experience you can get up to speed. The ram is kinda slow --- but it splits 2/4/6, etc., so there's that. Question: does it auto-stop at full extension and/or can it auto retract after it gets to full travel? That would be nice.
?? Nice splitter! I have to say the only added feature I'm impressed with was the hitch receivers on both ends. Aside from that I'll bet the price was? Unreasonable? Especially for a simple person who may just use it once a year. Even IF I was to use it more often? I still couldn't justify it and it's not uncommon for me to do two or up to three entire trees at a time. I have a newer simple 35 Ton plain Jane splitter that's just fine. It splits up to a three foot log so Far into 4 pieces Effortlessly. I find that size fine as it's easy to stack and if it's for my own use? I can grab two or three pieces at a time and split them by ax to burn. I'm not Smashin! Simply saying all of the bells and whistles one pays for seem useless? But to each there own.
I have a conveyor and trying to just split right into pickups for sales. Cut a few cords ahead, then call customers and tell them to come by. Trying to get away from the one cord deliveries with my dump trailer as those folks always looking for "cheap".
I went to the link in the description and their page simply says "request a quote"... I HATE when companies don't just publish the damn prices of their products right there on their website...
@@peterfitzpatrick7032 exactly. I don't have the time to call, email or get harassed for simpley wanted to know if this tool is in my budget or not. Plenty of manufacturers have their prices on their sites. I'll use them.
Honesty, I'd just leave the 4 way down all the time. If you end up with a piece that needs split again, either run it back through by its self, or keep an ax handy, or even a good hatchet. By the time you fiddle around trying to stack something on top of it, you could have already run it through the splitter. The main goal is to keep that ram moving as much as possible. 6 way is probably a waste for you. I think it works better for people who burn bigger splits, or are splitting a lot of rounds that are noticeably bigger than what you have there.
Love the splitter bro , only advice I have is not to split your wood in such small pieces. The smaller you split them the faster they burn away on you. The size logs you split quatering them would have been plenty. A few of the larger maybe 6 pieces. Also it saves you getting up in the middle of the night to load the stove .
I cannot figure out why splitting wood is so complicated. I’m 60 years old and been splitting wood for as long as I can remember. The hydraulic wood splitter was the best thing to come along after the wood maul. You turn the splitter up lock into place and split the log on the ground. The less you have to fool with the wood the better.
Law here requires wood to be stacked to verify cordage. Ash is easy to cut and split, but isn't the higher BTU wood . It's low moisture content makes it burnable sooner with less curing time.
Not sure why you split so small. I understand splitting 1/3 of it small, but why all? Bigger pieces = handling less. If drying time is the consideration, just have more wood on hand which is a safety factor anyways. Usually we as wood burners are obtaining the junk wood for free which dry's in half a year and splitting it, not the super dense expensive woods which dry slower.
Prentice made splitters with the lift option, centering and multiple wedges 40 plus years ago. Nothing new…. Hitches always on the end opposite of the wedge. Normal wedge was a 13 inch knife and then you could slide a wide wedge over the top for easier splitting wood.
Wincing while watching this. Never ever place your hands or fingers on the ends of the log when splitting. Even when placing, you can work the log from its sides. This way the worst that can happen is always avoided.
Do your self a favor, swap drawbar to the other end. You don’t have to unhook, and as the wood piles up, you just pull forward. Pick the splits up after all the splitting is done.
Stick to 6 split less handling of wood the less you handle less expence fuel maintenance and the like time is money but Im talking for heating so loads are at times for 8 hours of sleep larger size split just burn longer
A guy i worked with was splitting firewood and drinking and got his hand caught between the wood and the wedge it messed his hand up bad. so, i told him next time not to put his hand between the wood and the wedge.
you talk to much just show us how to split wood
I'll do better 😂

Those ducks are so cute and your dog is really nice. That is exactly the way I run my 4 way on my Timberwolf.
Nothing splits easier than ash. Like to see some tough old oak or hickory. Maybe some stringy elm.
Yep I split my ash with an ax have a cord split in no time
Hickory I find to be ok for splitting. Wet oak can be stringy. Both are rewarding to burn imo.
Rock elm is nearly impossible to split
6 way on the right sized logs would make some fast firewood.
Next step, find someone to deliver smaller sized log loads to the house.
It's a beast! Be safe, have fun and get outdoors.
With an outdoor wood stove you only need to split it to a manageable size, because you could actually throw the whole log in if you’re strong enough.

It seems to really do a nice job.
4 way split whilst raising/lowering looks to be most efficient alsofor good shape/size logs.
3:19, I had flashbacks to my cousin catapulting a log at himself with one of these with no backstop
You want a splitter that will blow your mind get a splitfire. Twice as fast as that one!! Plus you can split both ways.
Had a spilt fire for going on 30years, did a couple of modification...hydraulic pickup and raised axle. Need 3 and a boy to run it!

I need a crank jack stand like that. Mine rotates up and out of the way but I gotta do all the lifting.
If you turn the 4way wedge over, you can get a couple more inches. The plate isn’t centered on the wedge
