    This is my first exposure and test run of the Eastonmade Axis Wood Splitter. In this video I talk about homemade wood splitters and how the Eastonmade lives up to the pride and quality that one could expect from their own homemade machine.
    Thank you to all the DDD viewers that sent in photos of their homemade wood splitters. I admire all of your work!

    So, nearly a quarter million people have seen this video so far. Wembley stadium seats about 90K people. Don't know what it costs Eastonmade to send you a loaner machine for a couple of days, but I'm pretty sure it's less than they'd spend on a national TV ad, and they know that this channel has people who are interested in splitting wood. This is the future of advertising.

    • @digdrivediy

      I think you're probably right. This is well catered to the correct audience. Fortunately though I've got to have the splitter on loan for a good while though now. They're going to have a hard time getting it back from me! :) (It's great I mean)

    i recently bought a brand new branch chopper called " Rebak Niebieski W102" Made in Poland - powered by PTO of my 30hp 1973 Ursus C330 Tractor . This machine is superb - it is New (cost about 1100 US $) and can chop a dry hard wood like oak to 9cm diameter or 12cm (5inch ) wet wood branches like pine. It really save my precious time

    The smile on your face says it all. The fact that your Dad is there and the family is watching from the yard is great. Your home always looks well maintained and pristine.
    My Mom wanted a wood burning fireplace in the house we built here in 1966. Dad said he had cut and split enough wood as a kid that wasn't having one. There was a free standing gas log fireplace.

    Impressive machine, I know what your dad means 50 years ago would have been great.
    My dad burned wood for most of 50 years, I helped him out often. We would go up to the mountains here in Colorado and cut wood for 3 to 4 days. Stacking it up behind his house to dry for over a year before spitting it.
    I like the splitting machine, I just wish it leaned back a bit and the wedge was a plus.
    I can also see where it should be moved back, so it can not hit the plate on the back of the wedge.

    What an awesome splitter Neil! I'm so glad you got one. I've been pondering the idea of potentially getting something a little more stationary myself. My skidsteer splitter us great but it tears up the wood yard however I don't have to touch the wood once I cut it. That's the best part. Great video can't wait for the next one

    I'm just getting started with a wood stove, cleaning up around the farm site and splitting with a splitting axe. It started out fun, but I didn't think I'd be burning as much as I am; it's just satisfying to light that fire!
    Anyway, the manual splitting work has made me realize just how necessary a good hydraulic splitter will be. Thanks for the background and for sharing your insights!

  • @andyhenderson441
    @andyhenderson441 ปีที่แล้ว +15

    My only concern with this design is that I have seen a lot of logs burst apart when the splitter goes into them. If that were to happen with this unit you could catch a large piece of log to the chest or face. I would definitely opt for wearing a face guard like the ones made by stihl. I'm usually not a safety minded person, but there seems to be a big chance of injury when splitting the log and chest/face height.

    • @digdrivediy
      @digdrivediy  ปีที่แล้ว +8

      That is a notable concern. But at least the design of this forces the split left and right of the operator rather than to and from. In every situation of popping I have seen so far, the energy is perpendicular to the operator.

    • @richardmain8059
      @richardmain8059 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Great Episode you really made a memory with your Dad. If the log cut was not square, meaning the log has a tilt to the way it sits, then you can get one that pops the split into your gut. One Eye Customs “UTube Channel” made a Gut Guard you might like to view his episode on the Easton Made Axis.

    I rented a splitter last week and the wedge stopped 3 inches before it got thru the round. I was splitting hard maple and I had to pull it apart the rest of the way. I’m convinced those eastonmades are the best of the best. Firewood is somewhat of a novelty in Alabama. Not many people burn it in the house anymore and there are very few people with outdoor boilers.
