In the 90s, Wolverine lost his adamantium for a bit. Magneto ripped it out if his body. This actually caused him to mutate further, since his healing factor is constantly trying to heal away the adamantium. It went into overdrive, and made him more feral and bestial.
I think this would have worked better if they went a little farther to differentiate them visually. Edit his head so he isn't wearing his mask and instead has wild hair and the bandana style mask he wore around that time, possibly the fangs he was often portrayed with at the time.

@@andremalerba5281 they did, though. Both of these Wolverine's have different sprites. Bone claw has longer claws. It would not have to much work to draw new heads for the bone claw ones.
Also; War Machine is a moderately modified Iron Man sprite, and Venom actually uses the Sabertooth sprite as a stencil (it becomes really glaring when you put their sprite sheets side by side).
Yeah... Capcom saved money by reusing sprites rather than making new ones a lot. They also modified a lot of sprites, what I mentioned above was just the tip of the iceberg. MvC2 is actually an incomplete game: if they had a bit more time they probably would have balanced it better and made both Wolverines more obviously different than just the claws.

When wolverine got his adamantium ripped out by Magneto it severely weakened his healing factor to the point where it was almost non-existent. So having Boneclaw with weaker defenses and smaller health is canonically accurate.

I also dig the "looseness" of Wolvie's claws; it was a constant reminder that his claws were originally (and still at their core) organic parts of Logan's body, not just pieces of metal slapped into his forearms. As for the notion of "weak floppiness," you simply need to remember that your body can be both loose/fluid or tense/rigid as needed; that principle forms the the basis of most martial arts. Logan can be loose and relaxed in his idle animation, but slash and smash like a murder truck when he tightens up them guns.
All in all, it made Wolverine look so much more alive and human, a trait that Capcom basically mastered with most of their CPS2 and 3 character designs.

The big reason Marvel pushed the adamantium Wolverine was bc the game was set to release early 2000. They knew at the end of 1999 they were going back to adamantium Wolverine in the comics, restoring his adamantium skeleton. At the time Marvel already had multiple deals in the works including the 2000 X-men movie (with adamantium) and there was a big push at Marvel for uniformity especially with toys and video game merchandise (they filed chapter 11 Bankruptcy in 1996 and were trying to make more profit toward the decline of comics). There were slight disagreements with Capcom but Marvel was fine as long as they tried to get comic sales back up (same reason Marrow is in the game.)

For the HP, every character actually has 144 HP, the damage they take though is character dependant (defense value).
In training mode it shows 143 but the truth is the game is preventing the character from being KOed by dropping all damage to 0. So if your combo shows doing 143 damage, its techincally doing more.

Both are insanely iconic to the X-Men and Marvel mythos in the comics. One of my favorite aspects of the pre-MvC3 Marvel games were tons of nods to comic material without explaining it at nauseum which fans of course understood, but also encouraged fans of the game but not deep into comics to look into it with the mystery aspect.

Orange Hulk, Red Venom, Gold War Machine, Lilith Mode Morrigan, and Shadow Lady Chun-Li are all hidden characters. Orange Hulk is a reference to either the Sasquatch or the Thing, Red Venom is a reference to Carnage, Gold War Machine is basically similar to Iron Man, Lilith Mode Morrigan is basically Lilith in Morrigan's body, Evil Ryu is Ryu when or if he accept the Dark Hadou, and Shadow Lady Chun-Li is based on Chun-Li's brainwash appearance in the Street Fighter II V anime series. The warmachine being in mvc was due to a legal dispute. Another company had exclusive rights that year to produce an iron man game, (acclaim I think but I forget). This was when MvC was already deep in development and set to release soon so they just pallet swapped Iron man into war machine with barely any changes. In MvC2 they could use iron man again so warmachine got tweeked a bit to be his own charecter (the short version is beam moves became missles and vice versa).

What I've read, which seems consistent with my experience playing Wolverine over the years, is that Bone Wolverine is representative of the SFvXmen version, and Adamantium Wolverine is the MvC1 version. Having played a lot of Wolverine in COTA, I noticed the MvC version felt way different, kind of less savage and intuitive than I liked. The air DP is part of it, but I also hated the f+HP move. So, when MvC2 came out I played both and found that Bone was the one I wanted.

A minor feedback about the video: When you choose two wolverines for player one and two for player two, my mind always got confused when you are talking about adamantium wolverine and your character is the golden/brown costume. 3:10 Fatal Claw, you mention it like him doing an energy attack. But I think the special move is about Wolverine making a hyper speed multihit and we only see him after it finished with him in the X flash and later on the oponent starts to suffer the damage. You know, like the trope of the swordsman that slashes lots of eenemies and only after he stops do the enemies fall or start to get sliced

I just find it awesome that the devs even took the time too look up the different variations of the marvel lineup and the fact that feral wolverine (idk why but i think that's the actual name for this form although he mutates to look more beast like in the comic i still refer that variation as feral wolverine for logan having said natrual bone claws again after magneto literally ripped out the adamantium from his bones) is amazing to me and you never see that variation of wolverine besides his different costume changes over the year's . Even better to think he has a one of a kind assist out of the whole roster that's potentially invincible if done right but ironically he and his orignal counterpart have the lowest HP in the game. Love the vids brother keep up the amazing work!

They split his tools between the two, Adamantium got the good supers and assists while Claw got the good damage and the extra combos (for example, he can attack after hitting drill claw for extra damage), but the best tool, the divekick, was nerfed in both versions, I hate that I can't cancel the divekick into a combo, it's bad enough that the game favors zoners because of the new assist system as well as the extra screen space, but on top of that and the nerfed tools, they also made Wolverine one of the most squishy characters in the game, RIP.

    • @DeWente69
      @DeWente69 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Zangief, in his quotes and his lore. Capcom just took some liberty and made an alternate version of their character. He was created in a game with "what if" and comedy type scenarios. Just something they made for crossover games. He has costumes for Mech Zangief in actual SF games, but Mech Gief as a character with his move set has not been used in a non crossover game. He has a Street Fighter Alpha 3 Win animation where he drinks liquor and blows fire. I don't know if that came up before or after MSHvSF. He was not a replacement for Colossus. There was no reason to include him or a replacement. He wasn't a popular enough character to make it into the VS series as fully playable. He didn't even make it into X Men vs SF. (He was in Zangief's ending. This is where the idea probably began. "Lets make Zangief metal too!"). He surely didn't make the cut for Marvel Super Heroes vs SF. And of course, in MvC2 they just used all the characters they already made up until that point. But his costume since they started making 3d models have been a reference to the other Metallic Russian Hero Colossus.

I feel Wolvie suffers from his past successes in MvsC2; I wonder if he even has his healing factor super in this or not. I have to wonder if a passive red life was considered at all.
Metal claw was insisted due to being the iconic Wolverine, though 2d X-men/Marvel leans on the Cartoon's time (Though in Wolvie's case the blue/yellow is his usual "Hero" colors; later on he has a dark grayish "wetworks" look)
But Bone taking more damage is rather justified (no nigh-indestructible metal in his body), though if it was lore accurate, he'd be springing from it rather fast.

Both wolverines can call assist after they bounce from the dive kick, if he conect the drill claw he recover his ability attack/guard 1 time or if he can wall jump.
    Also bonerine have:
-His HP berseker barricade hace less starup while his counterpart can only combo his LP version.
-if he finish his air combo with drill craw, he still can conect some normal moves before falling (not much actually cause the air combo finish effect but better that adamatium wolverine that can't actually move after that).
-and probably his better stuff, weapon X actually can hit assist characters solo, and totally invencible during all the animation.
I recomend Joe zaza or observedego for good wolverines matches

In comics Wolverine had had bone claws since 1993 Fatal Attractions storyline, but regained his adamantium skeleton in early 2000 shortly before MvC2 came out. So while MvC2 was in development Marvel would have known that the adamantium Wolverine was going to come back and likely requested it being in the game for that reason, as the bone Wolverine would have been outdated by the time the game was released.

All those attempts you see in this video trying to combo into Berserker Barrage X would've worked in earlier Marvel games, but in MvC2 it got nerfed by getting a slight start-up time so it's now harder to combo into.
There's still a way to easily combo into Berserker Barrage X in MvC2 however, and that's by using its team hyper combo version which retains the almost-no start-up time from the earlier games.
