@@CountryCowboy008 I wasn't saying that, so don't go there. I'm saying Ponor's fans booing simply because they thought Ponor should have won is essentially booing Raisman. And it is because the mindset is about wanting your favorite person to win, not execution. Ponor did not deserve gold, even though she has amazing lines and is a great gymnast.
@@sarahelizavoldy again, it's flawed. Wanting someone to win doesn't always mean that you don't want the winner to win. Of course they will root for Ponor, she's a legend and what she has achieved is a feat more than getting a gold and, during that time, she's the most recent gymnast to have won 3 gold medals in a single game (only bested by Biles in 2016 with 4). So yes, they're not "essentially booing" Raisman. Because if you believe so, then you should also say that Raisman is celebrating that she kicked Ponor out of the podium during their tiebreaker in Beam Finals. Would you say that?
I have so much respect for Jordyn after rewatching this Olympics. As the reigning world all around champ, she had a reasonable expectation for this Olympics to be her moment. Even when she failed to qualify for the all around, she pulled together a great performance for her team in the team final, and was incredibly supportive of her teammates in the all around and event finals. Even in this final, she still stands here cheering for Aly because she knows Aly can win, with no hard feelings about Gabby and Aly keeping her out of the all around. Jordyn did her best, and the two per country rule screwed her. But she was a great competitor with some truly fantastic sportsmanship. Compare her attitude to Komova's (during team, all around, and event finals), and there is truly no comparing their sportmanship. Aliya was the Russian's sportsman, and she outshone Komova because of that. Medals aren't everything, and the behavior of several athletes at these games really showed that. Kudos to Aliya and Jordyn for their well deserved golds and sportsmanship under pressure, and congratulations to Aly for this floor gold.

@Tina Burton What a crappy response to something that happened so long ago. Many of the other gymnasts landed out of bounds as well. Jordyn was competing with a fracture in her foot, BTW. And let's not forget that this entire team (with the exception of maybe Gabby) was molested by the team doctor.
Aly can't be human. That first move was so ridiculous, how she didn't step out of bounds is a mystery to the world.

Also what do you learn from repeated comments like "oh boy, there's another fall" or "that's just silly", lmfao. If you want to learn more about gymnastics listen to the British commentators, they are a lot more factual and explain the game.

After seeing women's gymnastics last night I felt the urge to binge 2012 women's gymnastics.
That has to be one of the most impressive groups of gymnasts in a single EF. Three olympic champions on floor, two world champions on floor, three world AA champions. Imagine if they all had been able to put together their best performance, it would have been even more epic
It's fun to think that the one who won the gold medal is the only one who didn't already got one before (I'm talking about worlds or olympics)

Jordyn Wieber has an amazing attitude towards her teammate, you don't see that that often. Congrats, everybody!
She did cheer Aly on before her routine but didn’t seem to acknowledge her afterwards.
Jordyn looked like she was about in tears as she walked off the floor. Just wish I could give her a big hug at that point!

Right? Knowing what was happening behind the scenes, PLUS everything happening here.....she was truly a class act, the way she kept her composure and still cheered Aly on.
If she had done it like the team final, that would a been a medal? She was electrifying in the team final but here, she looked so nervous and had many bobbles throughout.
Anyone here reliving the London olympics? For whatever reason that year's was the epitome of olympics for me... I don't think any other will ever beat it

tbh it's just nice to see a comp that isn't all about Simone. I love her but it's nice to see so many other gymnasts get recognition and compete for the gold instead of Simone basically being handed the gold medal before she competes. When Simone competes there is literally a 95% chance she will win unless something crazy happens like in Rio when she got bronze on the beam. She is an incredible gymnast that deserves the recognition she gets however I feel like all gymnasts competing in huge competitions deserve recognition because what they are doing is still astonishing even if it isn't at the level that Simone is
@@laurenboughey3820 I agree 100% I think that's why men's competition and mainly the team competition is more exciting than the women's one because anyone can win in the women USA win for certain the competition is about the third and second place...
lauren boughey well said, 2016 was definitely one of my least favorite olympics because everything was all about simone. she’s an amazing gymnast don’t get me wrong but she has difficulty like no other coming in and can basically win by doing a cartwheel and saluting. the 2020 olympics should be interesting because there are so many new gymnasts coming in and winning world titles. i’m curious to see if that one will be somewhat close to 2012 :)

I mean if her routine is so difficult that no other gymnast dares to match her there, that’s just a compliment for her. It takes a lot of courage to do a tough routine on the world stage.
People aren't listening to the announcers. It's not rigged, Raisman's difficulty level was higher, and she executed it so great. Catalina and Ally were both amazing, but the judges scored correctly according to the difficulty level. (6.2 Catalina, 6.5 Ally)

I thought Alys was the best flippin routine out of anyone's regardless. Even if gymnastics had no scoring system, she still would have won XD But yeah the announcers said that Aly's score was the highest they've seen! 15.6... Only one who has had higher was Simone Biles at the Rio olympics

Catalina Ponor is poetry in motion. And this was 2012...8 years AFTER she was the Olympic gold medalist on floor in 2004. I love seeing this new longevity in women’s gymnastics...POST pubescent women were pushed out for so many years.

Ponor just did not have a higher difficulty value than Raisman. Their execution was very similar since both performed very well but Aly's opening tumbling pass was seriously amazing and difficult.

omg CLEARLY aly was the best on this day. Stuck landings plus good form in the tumbling. She deserved at least a 9 in execution. But even if Cata had scored a 9.1 and Aly a 9.0, Aly would still have won by 2 tenths because of her difficulty score that gave her such an advantage in this final. I don't think those who are complaining truly appreciate the difficulty of Aly's first pass, tbh.

i just hate it when people assume Aliya is snobby! she’s actually one of the sweetest, and gets along with all of the other gymnasts well. her sportsmanship shines through!
In the NBC broadcast of this final you see her give a thumbs up to Aly and say something along the lines of good job.
I love that everyone but Aly had already proven themselves in this final. Ponor and Izbasa, both individual champions in 04 and 08. Then Ferrari, Wieber, and Mustafina who were all AA World Champions. Afanasyeva and Mitchell were both floor champions in the last two years.

To think Ferrari has been competing internationally (as a senior) since 2006 AND has participated in 4 olympics is incredible. Not Chusovitina’s longevity but still very impressive. She truly deserved that silver medal !

Catalina's routine was more vigorous and caught my eye, but the true winner was Raisman. The judges were right.
I have to agree with this too.
Catalina's difficulty was .3 lower than Aly's, but I thought she (Catalina) seemed underscored a bit for execution. I think Catalina's execution score should have been at least a 9.2 or 9.3 - she would still be in second but that score just seemed a bit low.

Same for Aliya and Vanessa, I mean I understand they were injured and Aly was probably the only one in that final who was healthy, but Aly's form (only on floor) was pretty amazing, better than Cata, Aliya and Vanessa
I also loved Catalina's routine it was more eye catching and artistic combined with the technical. Perfect for me :)
Catalina has an artistry that no one can touch. And I don't mean just frou-frou moves: the artistry is present throughout the whole routine. She looks so graceful all the time. :)

I found her to be head and shoulders more captivating to watch than anyone. Everything was so clean and precise, especially those whips!
Everyone can learn from Sandra Izbasa’s wonderful personality, attitude, and humility.
She got last place, but she shrugged, then SMILED and waved at the crowd! Truly an Olympian to admire that she can make a mistake and not get too upset about it to forget how amazing and lucky she is to be so successful.
I had just come from rewatching the vault final and decided I didn’t like Sandra for beating McKayla. But McKayla was so rude about losing that it made me sad to see someone I thought I admired act that way when she lost. Coming to watch this, I didn’t want to like Sandra. But watching her gracious reaction to last place made me realize I could never not like her. She’s awesome. I’m gonna go watch her other routines now!
I loved Sandra since I saw her win floor in 2008, she’s just such a lovely person and competitor.
Sandra is probably one of my favorite gymnasts ever. Her winning FX in Beijing is my happy place.
my opinion is that raisman just out did ponor. ponor's difficulty was lower than raismans and there were a lot of tiny tiny errors in her performance. i feel that the judges judged fairly and that they gave each gymnast the score that they deserve

This was my very first gymnastics competition I watched on youtube in august 2013 and it is my favorite to watch. I have watched it so many times.
People hating on Aly because Ponor's routine was more "beautiful" should watch dance or acro gymnastics, where artistry is part of the score (unlike WAG). Until then, accept that she had less difficulty and slightly worse execution and got second fairly.

Yeah but not as big as actual execution and difficulty overall. If you have a good combination of exeuction, difficulty and artistry or play what you do have have really well while the others are at least presentable, don't expect to place very high let alone earn a medal
8 years later and I just realize the commentator at 15:37 said “she’ll give the judges fever with this performance.” And Ponor’s floor music is called “Fever.”
all the people In the comments kinda ripping Aly apart bc they think Ponor's routine was better and she should have won. Don't understand the difficulty aspect of it. Ponor didn't do nearly the kind of tumbling Raisman did. She had a gorgeous routine (despite the crossed legs in the double full she did) her dance skills were great. They even said it no one had the difficulty that raisman did. Period.

This lineup is gymnastics royalty including 4 of my favorites ever: Aliya, Sandra, Ksenia and Catalina.
This was a very exciting final event.
Sandra R's fall at end is heartbreaking . The whole performance is sooo powerful and spot-on ; I was convinced she'd take gold ' until that moment . She held it together magnificently ; just that little frown and shrug* You are ALL amazing*

Ross, Maroney & Liukin are on the slender side. Liukin is Russian by ethnicity hence her slim built.

Can we talk about how amazing this final is? Literally every competitor is a world/Olympic champion on floor or a world all around champion! Increíble!

Perhaps the greatest lineup of 8 athletes to ever compete for a floor exercise Olympics championship ever! All 8 names of these ladies are synonymous with female artistic gymnastics greatness today. If I had to put together a 'dream team' they would all be on it.
Aly had a higher start value than Catalina, Aly did her floor exercise pretty well and Catalina's performance wasn't exactly perfect either and that is why Aly had a higher chance of winning the gold medal. Why don't people get it? Just because Catalina's performance had more artistry doesn't automatically make her the winner. People claimed that gymnastics isn't all about the acrobatics but gymnastics is not all about the artistry either. I wish people would understand that.
This! Artistry matters and I agree there's not enough of it these days, BUT it's only one aspect of gymnastics. This debate is so played out.
I really enjoy Kseniia's style. Too bad she didn't do all she's capable of. It would have been nice to see her medal.
After watching the trial, I have a new respect for Ally and our women! What concentration they have!
The trick is, if you feel as though you're going to stumble on the landing, do some kind of leap (like at 6.56) to avoid deductions

That's smart on there part by doing stag jumps and split leaps and imidiate pile or Arabians or punches but the problem is if you run too far you will go out of bounds
Alexandra Raisman from the U.S.A was amazing. So was Catalinas Ponor and Lauren Mitchell.
Aly certainly deserved the win with the code and her d score, but Ponor. Wow. No one can deny that her form, artistic quality, and attention to detail was the best of any competitor

If this were a men's competition no one would complain about Ally winning despite a lack of artistry. They are athletes, not pretty little dancers.
But they are girls and rules are not the same so that comparison is quite stupid.

Yes we all know it's called Artistic gymnastics but it's changed over the years and is such a physically demanding athletic sport. Don't hate on me but honestly, I don't care about the dancing or artistry. People now understand how hard this sport is because of the focus on the amazing skills they do.

So what is a man? Robotic? Ugly? Bland? Unexciting? Clumsy? Stiff? Seriously? I’m a guy and this whole female/male thing where men are hunking balls of meat that aren’t capable of artistry or grace and women are nothing but little ballerinas with less of a drive for acquiring advanced skill has to stop.
Let people be who THEY want to be. A graceful man? Why not? A women who excels most in sheer technique? Sure. A mix of any of them? Yes. Let them do what they like, male or female.
I feel so bad for Sandra Izbasa. It was such a clean gorgeous routine up until that last pass, she could have easily taken silver or bronze but she got last just for that one mistake.

6+ yrs later and Mihai's fist pump during the replay gets me every time. Aly's leaps, her form, and those killer landings here were the best she looked (IMO). Dont get me wrong, what she did in '16 was unbelievable, but this routine is my fave from her. Stellar. Also, this routine was masterfully choreographed for her style of gymnastics. Perfection.

i remember watching this years ago and starting gymnastics mainly due to aly’s amazing routine. still shook to this day

Didn’t have the difficulty, crossed ankles in triple, leg separation in double pike and too long of pause for connection with back tuck. Aly ate her up on difficulty and execution. Ponor’s routine was great but not gold.
Both of their routines were clean on all four passes but both gymnasts had form issues. The difference between gold and silver came down to the D-score.

Raisman was incredible but Catalina Ponor's performance was mesmerizing 🤩
Aly was so smart. She watched what happened to the other gymnasts when they landed in those corners and how overly springy the floor was, and she stayed far away from the corners so that she didn't go out of bounds. Not only did she win off of talent, her wisdom played a big part.
Update: In fact it looks like others followed suit. I feel bad for the first two performers. The others probably had their coaches warning them that they needed to adjust.
They all competed on this floor in qualifications and most of them kn team/all around finals. They all knew. However they can't always stay away from the corners, depending on the length of the tumbling pass

Ponor's start value was only a 6.2 not a 6.4. And to be honest very few if any in the floor final can dance. It's about the tumbles. Everyone knows that even if they don't like it. No since worrying about it now. Its over. it's just a sport. Not the end of the world.
Actually it was 6.4 but in the final it was downgraded either because of her quad spin not being completely round or the connection on her second pass or something like that
who cares if they can't dance it doesn't even count to the score so who gives
lexi waters Pretty sure if there was no dancing then they would lose a lot of points. So contrary to your beliefs dancing does count to the score. It would be like watching the men compete all they do are the tumbles and a jump every now and then.
This is the plain truth and it comes down to the fact that artistry and dancing can be so subjective. As with the technical aspect of very difficult tumbling is much easier and more fair to see and deduct mistakes. That’s why no one even can close to Simone Biles in 2016 , her coaches knew exactly what they’re doing with her insanely difficult tumbling and super high start values. I feel it’s kind of a shame I agree artistry should hold more value than it does now but I don’t make the rules lol
Aliya Mustafina's my favourite but I wish Sandra could medal here. She was spectacular if you forget the fall for a moment.
