To me, it's been a miracle to see Deng, a girl from a small rural town which was in poverty, to one day stand at the top of the world. She can inspire my generation.
She did great so composed. her teammate tho was crying cause she did better it kinda irked me I mean she came in second and did way better then most of the others but I guess it’s a stressful and emotional time
I think this is one of the hardest olympic games I’ve ever seen. Only professional players could balance themselves in a balance beam in order to win a game. Every player is very well-trained.
Feel sorry for Sui Lu, her coach told her not to do one of her connections to reduce her pressure as the first one up. That is 0.1 and she missed the gold by 0.1.
@@UnequivocallyMEDeng didn’t actually upgrade, she finally got all the connection value of her acro series (the swing down was connected appropriately in this one routine without hesitation). That made the difference in the end.
Kitty xoxo well these girls (specifically the Chinese) dedicate majority of their life to gymnastics. silver metal might seem good and all but it’s a constant reminder how close you were to gold but not close enough. i’d cry too if i had come that close.
There’s unbelievable pressure to win and being so close to coming first and then watching someone else take the place is rough. She would’ve felt extraordinarily disappointed.
Also, it's a cultural thing in China. Unlike most of the people feel like those medalists are having such an incredibly great achievement, the common conception in China is that only the gold medalist will be memorized.
I’ve experienced being in 2nd place for thing you worked hard for so long, and it really is sad and disappointing. It might seem good for people who watched, but for the one who competed, it really is sad and not good at all.

Ofc i love linlin and she deserves her medal but how would you feel if you were so close to something you've wanted your whole life but yet so far
It's actually been proven that coming in second is the most disappointing spot. When you win gold, well, you won. When you come in third, you are grateful that you got on the podium. Second place finishers usually leave thinking how they could have done better.
Performances on "the beam" have always been the most scary for me. When I watch, I pray...that when done they have not injured themselves!! God Bless them all!!

People keep complaining about Sui Lu. But I feel like if I were in her position, I'd cry no matter I win or lose. Just too much emotions. Happiness, disappointment, pressure, maybe I'm just a crybaby idk
She was really sad because she wanted that gold medal after a.) winning the beam world title a year earlier and b.) being beaten out for the final spot on the Beijing gold medal team four years prior. Both things added up to her being very sad.
This final was one of the most fiercest. The "Big 4" in gymnastics (aka superpowers) got to compete and show the world who the best are . Edit: When Miller said that she hopes that Vika goes home hungry for the next Olympic games, it hit me hard. Miller knows what it's like to be hungry and being a fighter. That's why she won gold on beam in 96.
Why are Sui Lu's tears necessarily interpreted as a sign of disappointment? You know, sometimes when you finally complete something very hard, you cry not just the moment you finish them. You just need some time to digest, and suddenly a sense of relief makes you cry. As a college student, I once cried before I went to bed, on the day when I finished my sixth final exam. It seems to me that Lu cried because all those years of trainings were so tough, and she finally finished her Olympics. Not "bad sportsmanship".
Nope, she was definitely disappointed. But I wouldn't call that bad sportsmanship, considering the context. Sui Lu was arguably the best beam worker of that quad, her routines were really admired and rightfully so. You could tell she was really proud of the pure level of skill she achieved on that apparatus. Now Deng already won a gold medal at the prior Olympics and it was non other than Deng that got chosen over Sui for the Olympic team in 2008. She probably was giga frustrated (also I personally think that Deng was a tiny bit overscored)

Graham6762 "known for 'this'" um the chinese did not forge any birth certificates, i mean, it's not their fault they look young and tiny…they're 22, born 1992, no forged birth certificates at all.
Pedro Neto they don’t do beam, men compete floor, vault, rings, parallel bars, high bar and rings whereas women compete floor, vault, beam and uneven bars
While I do agree with the final decision regarding Aly's D score, I remember being so heartbroken for Catalina. She's such an incredible BB competitor and it was an inspiring comeback from her. The Romanians have had such bad luck with reviews over the years.
The best thing about Shannon is that, unlike Tim Daggett at NBC (U.S.), she isn't yelling or constantly talking over every blessed thing. Knowing when to be quiet and let the competition speak for itself is an underappreciated skill.
It's because she was supposed to compete in the 2008 Olympics but she lost her chance. Knowing that this is her final chance in the Olympics and she lost her gold she got disappointed. I guess that's reasonable.
I think Sui Lu was really disappointed about her own performance, she didn't do as well as she normally could!! She was a little nervous! That's the price she had to pay for being the very first athlete to perform in this event!!! And since this was likely her only chance to prove herself in the Olympics, she couldn't quite accept & let go of her own " less than perfect" show in front of the world !!!
+HiHoCookie Me too. I was thinking- did China try to slip 12 year olds in again? lol no one will forget that from 2008, when they tried to cheat the age limit.
+Amydali86 the more exercise/stress you put your body under, the more underdeveloped it will be, which is why Chinese gymnasts look so young, because they train way too hard.
+Faewaterspirit i saw her competing at junior games at 2000. If she was only 16 in 2012, she was only 4 in 2000. There is no way that she can compete for the junior games at the age of 4.
Andrew Hooker if she was 16 in 2012 then why isn't she competing again in the Río Olympics? Using ur logic then she would only be 20 in 2016 which still makes her eligible to compete in the Río Olympics so....where is she? Yeah, retired because she's 25 now.
This was one of the best finals ever. Not because of the splatfest, but because of the top 2, Sui Lu and Deng Linlin. I believe that these two women are some of the best beam workers EVER. So rarely do we see elegance and maturity displayed on a piece like Balance Beam, all combined with difficulty and pristine execution. I honestly could see how anyone could make an argument for how either should have won, but I will always remember them for the phenomenal work they presented here. To this day I haven't seen anyone, not Simone Biles, not Shang Chunsong, not Aliya Mustafina reach their level of work.
While Deng Lin Lin and Sui Lu are undeniably one of the best beam workers who ever graced the Olympic stage, Nastia is simply the best - her elegance, power and her long lines will never be paralled in probably the next 10 olympic cycles.
Oml. These girls are amAzing! If I messed up there, I wouldn’t be able to go on. The pressure would just crush me, but these women got right back up and kept going at 110% I would not be able to do what these girls do. The concentration, the determination, the balance and flexibility.... I can barely walk in a straight line so I mean, this is just incredible
@@Rooneytunes01 lmao exactly. Without cameras in their faces and the world watching them, I imagine they're quite brutal and unforgiving. Chinas known to be an extremely overworked group of gymnasts from toddlers.
@@Rooneytunes01 Have you been to China? Because your argument is so stupid you sound like a brainwashed American. Regardless of Government differences between the two political ideals, that has nothing to do with the PEOPLE of China or the PEOPLE of America. You've been convinced into thinking they're all awful and that's incredibly sad to see that it was so easy to convince you. These coaches have trained their athletes well, and gave them the praise they deserved. As did the others. Stop being so insanely xenophobic. Get a grip.
Gabby Douglas was SO solid after her fall. She must have been doubting and worrying up to the fall and after it, realized the worst had happened and she was still there, and finished the routine like a champion.
She was beam champ in the 2004 games. She came back and made finals in 2012. And the ONLY Romanian gymnast to make the 2016 Olympic games. She was so amazing on this event!!
I cried when the commentator said about komova "my hope is that she gets away from this competition hungry for the next olympics " knowing she won't be competing at Rio, so disappointing for such a talented gymnast to go out like that, no olympic gold medal... She's always had the potential, yet some injuries and misfortune always got in her way.. She'll forever be my favourite gymnast
well she didn't say she's retiring, just that she's not trying for Rio, so although it's very unlikely I'm still holding out hope that she'll make a comeback for 2020:D
The feelings must be hard when you see your teammate get a higher score than yourself, you're really sad, but you must also feel happy for your country.
+Renn Li Sometimes it's not just about score. There are many Chinese gymnasts coming from very poor family and they want to get the prize. The first place's reward can get the gymnast buy a whole house for her family and let her family live well for at least 5 years. If I were Sui Lu, I would really want to kill myself as it's not that I didn't perform well enough, it's all because of the 0.1 difficulty and one more tumbling and the score can be higher than Deng Lin Lin's.
***** um not to offend, but i think you got the scores wrong…deng linlin was 15.600 (6.6/9.0) sui lu was 15.5 (6.5/9.0) aly raisman was 15.066 (6.3/8.766) you get the idea…
This has been one of the best BB final in terms of the artistry and execution, specially Sui Lu, Komova, Catalina, Larisa and Deng. I prefer Sui Lu's gymnastics better then Deng's since she is so fluid with her movements but Deng really gave a great performance here. Can not stop watching this.
They both did well but sui lu was kinda a sore loser / bad sport about coming in 2nd and crying even tho she did so well I mean some girls fell and one got her metal taken back and they held it together. if I was Linlin I would have felt bad
The first gal was so amazing! I loved all of the jumps, well everything lol Okay, they're all amazing. We are lucky to get to watch these talented girls' performances.
This is my first time watching balancing beam and on the whole video i was like "OMG what if you fall? Please use a helmet! Please be careful you'll need your bones in the future! What about your insurance? What if she lands with her head?"
You just answered your own question! They express it with gymnastics, it's what they love and they will do anything they can in their wide range of a abilities to show how they are feeling with it. I suppose it's easier to tell a story that way then screaming at people! Hope I helped x
I don't understand why their trainer or whoever it is who supports them doesn't hug them. It's seems like when they do bad no one wants anything to do with them. It just seems odd that the people who do well get hugs and the others don't. It just seems sad, like if I fell off the balance beam I'd want a hug or some support. Btw I think anyone who does anything on a balance beam is crazy talented. It's amazing how someone can even walk on one let alone do back flips and all this crazy stuff.
But some of them just seem to do not want a hug in this moment - I think if I'm disappointed about me, I wouldn't want a hug. But I feel like nearly all seem so unhappy, maybe it is just the pressure but I don't know
The mental toughness to confront the beam! Falling in the middle of the routine and getting back up to finish, knowing well that you already lost your chance to medal. Phew!!! These ladies are amazing.
+mtrmoon 1stly- why even read the comment section if you're watching sth the first time? It's quite obvious that you'll meet some spoilers lol. Secondly- IT WAS 4 YEARS AGO OH COME ONNN :'D
zxgamer boss well everyone wants to believe that the team for whatever sport representing their country is the best, don't you think? They want their team to do well, etc. and it's not to be rude, that's just how it is.
When I was younger I could run, jump, hop, and skip my way across a balance beam. I even loved doing gymnastics and I drastically improved in the first few months. But my mom pulled me out because a few months in, and I still couldn’t do a good cartwheel. And do this day, I regret letting her pull me out because it’s all fallen away. I can’t even walk confidently across a beam anymore. So I have mad respect for these ladies who make it look so effortless.

Cant believe that Deng and Sui are 22! They're so much smaller than the other opponents but theyre still amazimg.
Not to mention the sparkly hair clips haha. makes them look so much younger.
The Soviet Union was known for this too, they would forge birth certificates and put kids into some gymnastic events.
Graham6762 "known for 'this'" um the chinese did not forge any birth certificates, i mean, it's not their fault they look young and tiny…they're 22, born 1992, no forged birth certificates at all.
WHAT, i thought they were like 14
Alyssa Cooper wait what, I thought she was like 10
...
Now I know why they don’t allow this game for men
Hahaha
artfol check TH-cam some men do it
Pedro Neto they don’t do beam, men compete floor, vault, rings, parallel bars, high bar and rings whereas women compete floor, vault, beam and uneven bars
Oreo O not competitively, but some men do it anyways
😂😂
While I do agree with the final decision regarding Aly's D score, I remember being so heartbroken for Catalina. She's such an incredible BB competitor and it was an inspiring comeback from her. The Romanians have had such bad luck with reviews over the years.
God I wish that they had both somehow gotten the bronze. That would have been a perfect scenario.
I know the competition has gone a long time ago,but thank you for supporting my country's gymnasts
Shannon Miller is the best Artistic Gymnastics commentator ever!
Is this Shannon Miller? This girl is really insightful and good.
Jenny Mae that's right! She's very informative unlike the idiots of NBC for the dummies
+Kim W does anybody know where we can hear her commentary for rio?
I have no clue but it'll be best to watch the official Olympic coverage of Artistic gymnastics, she might do the commentary again.
The best thing about Shannon is that, unlike Tim Daggett at NBC (U.S.), she isn't yelling or constantly talking over every blessed thing. Knowing when to be quiet and let the competition speak for itself is an underappreciated skill.
I give props for Gabby Douglas, that fall looked painful- well done to her for getting back up there.

Catalina Ponor is poetry in motion - regardless of errors 🥰
Watching the balance beam stresses me out!
Same!!😬😅
Same. More than any of the other events. It's so nerve wracking!

GrangerDangerx . Lol. It is actually my favourite of any apparatus apart from Simone Biles floor routine. The way they leap and jump is incredible.
Savannah Mills 2
Shannon should be a commentator more often. She does such a great job at it.
Why do I keep watching these videos? THEY MAKE ME SO ANXIOUS
They all look so young, and are incredibly talented
That commentator lady should do AMSR she's got a beautiful voice

I like how America applauded for it components.
That's what I'm wondering
+Xtx Icogxog I guess because waving is more of an addressing manner? im just guessing
to many blacks.....lmao
+Pinkie Love too many cancerous cells.....lmao
I myself applaud for my opponents, because it's the sport men's like thing to do.
Why does Siu cry? I don't understand but I really like the way her coach eases her
I'd like to think they were tears of joy
Because she didn't get the gold, I could see why people would be upset about it
I mean why she would be upset about it
It's because she was supposed to compete in the 2008 Olympics but she lost her chance.
I love the commentators, they are so soft spoken and sweet with no biased opinion
Sui Lu is 20?! She looks about 11/12 to me haha
There is no way that she can compete for the junior games at the age of 4.
guys this was 2012, and she was 20. so she was born in 1992, which means she was 8 and not 4 in 2000. is that so hard to understand?
Agree!! Deng Lin Lin and Sui lu are the best!!
totally agree
While Deng Lin Lin and Sui Lu are undeniably one of the best beam workers who ever graced the Olympic stage, Nastia is simply the best - her elegance, power and her long lines will never be paralled in probably the next 10 olympic cycles.
Kristopher Jayson Bondoc Viktoria Komova?

Oml. These girls are amAzing! If I messed up there, I wouldn’t be able to go on. The pressure would just crush me, but these women got right back up and kept going at 110%
I would not be able to do what these girls do. The concentration, the determination, the balance and flexibility.... I can barely walk in a straight line so I mean, this is just incredible

Brook Meredith good night
I really salute and proud for the coaches from china very supportive for thier atlets
Marichuy Ganda Their athletes.
Yeah in front of the cameras it’s all rainbows and unicorns
@@Rooneytunes01 lmao exactly. Without cameras in their faces and the world watching them, I imagine they're quite brutal and unforgiving. Chinas known to be an extremely overworked group of gymnasts from toddlers.
HB whats scary is how many blissfully ignorant westerners deny this. China is an enemy of the west and not to be trusted.
She must have been doubting and worrying up to the fall and after it, realized the worst had happened and she was still there, and finished the routine like a champion.
same for iordache
This routine is the hardest of them all and China is way ahead of the rest.
Good times
Vanilla Snow Celtic babi yes but no where executed as well and cleanly as China
@Celtic Snow not in beam though
7:03 now what type of sorcery
Taylor ? Im saying
If you put it on 25 speed then you can see the twist
She was beam champ in the 2004 games. She came back and made finals in 2012. And the ONLY Romanian gymnast to make the 2016 Olympic games. She was so amazing on this event!!
At 18:14 you Can see it in slomo
The magic that is Catalina Ponor!
Sui lu looked sad after Deng linlin's performance.
Gaby D supports n claps to others who don’t even show the same effort . I respect her !
She'll forever be my favourite gymnast
well she didn't say she's retiring, just that she's not trying for Rio, so although it's very unlikely I'm still holding out hope that she'll make a comeback for 2020:D
nadia hamzaoui hy
The feelings must be hard when you see your teammate get a higher score than yourself, you're really sad, but you must also feel happy for your country.
.
是啊,关键时刻。。。。

+TheGymnastic101 Nice then we'll see you as a balance beam judge in Rio 2016, yea?
Man I love the sound of the beam when they land. Anyone else?
Oh me too. Shawn Johnson did that very well. Listening to her beam routines was always so lovely.

Why I'm even watching this? I'm not even a gymnast.
Stan Loona
because we got nothing to do with our lives 😂😂
Because it’s an amazing championship 👊🏽👊🏽
This has been one of the best BB final in terms of the artistry and execution, specially Sui Lu, Komova, Catalina, Larisa and Deng. I prefer Sui Lu's gymnastics better then Deng's since she is so fluid with her movements but Deng really gave a great performance here. Can not stop watching this.
ViDODEMiHjj
ViDOdemihyatedemaha
They both did well but sui lu was kinda a sore loser / bad sport about coming in 2nd and crying even tho she did so well I mean some girls fell and one got her metal taken back and they held it together. if I was Linlin I would have felt bad
I love Viktoria Komova, I saw her live when she was in the YOG and I was immediately wowed by her. Keep fighting!

They're performed very well @Karolyn Herrera, how are you doing?
I like Catilina Ponor! she is amazing. Her floor excerise was amazing too.!
That last girl was almost perfect. I found her underscored.
Teddy 97 No she wasn't, not eventual close
Teddy 97 She was Not artistic
G Gaviria artistry isnt all about elegance and grace. its about precision, despite whether its hard hitting or elegant.
Umm she's actually the most overscored athlete on Olympics 2012, be it on floor or balance beam.
She was which is why they put in the inquiry. The judges adjusted the score to fix their mistake.

23:05 Sweet moment from the Chinese coach
What I'D like to know is how these gymnasts control their extreme frustration WITHOUT screaming.
You just answered your own question! They express it with gymnastics, it's what they love and they will do anything they can in their wide range of a abilities to show how they are feeling with it. I suppose it's easier to tell a story that way then screaming at people! Hope I helped x

"At 4 inches wide, it's so easy to get off." 😂👏 That's what she said. Amazing commentary.
😵😂
How u know that is 4 inch.. 😜
Its a centimeter.
maya menezes no, it’s inches
I don't understand why their trainer or whoever it is who supports them doesn't hug them. It's seems like when they do bad no one wants anything to do with them. It just seems odd that the people who do well get hugs and the others don't. It just seems sad, like if I fell off the balance beam I'd want a hug or some support. Btw I think anyone who does anything on a balance beam is crazy talented. It's amazing how someone can even walk on one let alone do back flips and all this crazy stuff.
Samantha right Larissa got no love at all
But some of them just seem to do not want a hug in this moment - I think if I'm disappointed about me, I wouldn't want a hug. But I feel like nearly all seem so unhappy, maybe it is just the pressure but I don't know
Since i just started gymnastics its hard for me and i would like a hug or some support

I can’t believe the same situation happened again in Paris 2024 floor final
But this one is more pleasant to watch imo 🤣 at least the first 3 performances were decent.

I just can't announce one winner..... everyone was wow!!!
The mental toughness to confront the beam! Falling in the middle of the routine and getting back up to finish, knowing well that you already lost your chance to medal. Phew!!! These ladies are amazing.
I wanted to cry when Gabby fell :(
I know, right? Her routine was just so good, but gravity and balance apparently hate her.
She messed up herself, no gravity/balance
I did cry

Only the americans clapped for their opponents? they're so polite.
Is this sarcasm?
+joaco maskaric yes
well americans view it as respectful and showing good sportsmanship. so that's how it was meant.
I'm american and most people say there the best team but its really not true
zxgamer boss well everyone wants to believe that the team for whatever sport representing their country is the best, don't you think? They want their team to do well, etc. and it's not to be rude, that's just how it is.
24:53 Victoria's backflip was so high and beautiful
When I was younger I could run, jump, hop, and skip my way across a balance beam. I even loved doing gymnastics and I drastically improved in the first few months. But my mom pulled me out because a few months in, and I still couldn’t do a good cartwheel. And do this day, I regret letting her pull me out because it’s all fallen away. I can’t even walk confidently across a beam anymore. So I have mad respect for these ladies who make it look so effortless.
