    • @EzerEben
      @EzerEben 4 ปีที่แล้ว +259

      Not nobody. I read several comments here on the magnificence of her landings. Bruno gets mentioned frequently because he makes Aljona entirely weightless in his hands, among many other reasons. She is still the focal point for sure, but, when compared to other men, Bruno does a better job making his partner look amazing. The guy is a mensch among his less-studly peers.

    • @EzerEben
      @EzerEben 4 ปีที่แล้ว +78

      Despite being past her prime and never having won more than Olympic bronze in her attempts dating back to 2002, Aljona won the gold with this performance in immense part because of her partner. They smashed the records in points, which was incredible considering this was her first Olympic win so late in her career (aged 34). All of this points heavily to Bruno.

      This was her 5th time at Olympia, winning two bronze medals before. But she said she couldn’t stop or retire without winning gold. She was so sad about the bronze medals that she said she couldn’t look at them and kept them in the basement. The saddest part was, that it was always her partners „fault“ and never her who made a mistake. So her winning gold was really her dream come true and the result of 30 years of hard work.

    For people who doesn't know their story, in short:
    It was FIFTH Olympics for Aljona, she got two bronzes with previous partner but she paired up with Bruno only four years before 2018 Olympics. She's native Ukrainian, he's French, they competed for Germany, because she was representing Germany with previous partner Robin Szolkowy after she left Ukraine because of lack of money and federation support. They had to pay a huge money for French federation for the 'release' for Bruno from France. Her story is crazily unbelievable, but worth to know. Definitely iconic pair.

      ... not to forget that Bruno had to become a German citizen and failed the exam, he became his German passport only 3 month before they started for Pyeongchang, having trained 4 years. And then the mistake Bruno did in their short routine, so that they lost 4 points and had to start on the 4th position and were not sure to get gold even after this stunning performance - only after the other also really strong pairs did one after another some small mistakes, it was clear that they got the gold medal. The best figure skating performance I have ever watched. This program includes everything you want: professional skills, amazing music, artistic expression, special skating techniques and tricks, synchronicity, joy and pain, tenderness and strength in every element and movement. Breathtaking and life long actual masterpiece on ice 😍🤤

    The camerawork to capture this once in a lifetime performance was nothing short of exemplary. @2:53, the camera zooms out to show the height and distance of that breathtaking throw, and then back in as the skaters rejoin.
    If you have never seen figure skating live, it's difficult to appreciate just how fast these skaters are moving and how they use every inch of space on the rink. The camera work, from the switching to the framing, is the work of a vastly skilled and prepared crew. The viewers at home truly had the best seat in the house.

      Ya I've seen no one here except for you praising the camera work when it deserves all the attention, it perfectly captured everything the viewers needed to see :)

      That's why it is really better to watch all live shows at home... You got all the perfect angles of the show... Why waste money on shows such as concerts, opera and the likes when you cannot see all those beautiful scenes that the camera captures! Kudos to the camera crews for making this so satisfying to watch...
