I agree that this is an effective product. It really helps with my back pain caused by spinal stenosis and arthritis. My one off-topic question, though, is where did you get your wonderful sofa? I’ve been looking for one just like that. Thanks!

That's good to know Judy. Um, I don't know! My partner bought it ages ago second hand, and the original owner never told her where it came from.

Does it help with back pain or shoulder pain?

I think it has the potential to help with some back or shoulder complaints, but probably not all. It would depend what the problem is exactly I think. And since there hasn't really been extensive research into how effective these mats really are, all I can do is suggest that it might help, but I wouldn't say it's guaranteed to.

Is this safe on the spine?

It is safe for the spine as our spinal cord itself is well protected by three layers of combined muscles, blood vessels and ligaments. There's enough cushioning on the actual cord to not be affected by these spikes. UNLESS - you have a spine injury or a spine or vertebrae condition that you suffer from, do not use this, as it does not work well with injuries and the mechanism for it isn't suitable for injured tissues, ligaments or muscles. Once healed, you may use it for pain relief. But otherwise, it's perfectly fine to use as it is evenly distributed on your back and does not penetrate deep enough to disturb your spinal cord.

Thanks for jumping in with that answer. Personally, I'd also say it's something to be careful with. If you have any kind of back problems beyond the occasional sore muscle, I'd check with your doc first just to be sure.
