ABOUT
The Chilipad Dock Pro an interesting bed cooling system because it's buildable and the sleep tracking is an optional extra. So if you want, you can use it just with the cooling and heating, which you control yourself with the app or buttons on the control units. That way, the initial cost is less and there's no monthly subscription fee.
More and more sleep tech and fitness products come with membership/subscription fees these days, such as the main competitor to the Dock Pro - the Eight Sleep. So I decided to test it without the sleep tracking to see if it's a good alternative for those who prefer not to have ongoing monthly costs after the initial purchase.
As you'll see in the video, I think it does the heating and cooling very well. While I do quite like having sleep tracking and health metrics myself, I think it's a viable option for those who aren't bothered by all those extra features.
As always, I do have some criticisms though - these systems are never completely perfect! So I make some key comparisons throughout to the Eight Sleep Pod 3 and Bedjet 3 where potential issues are concerned, mainly around the fan noise, maintenance, water reservoir, dimensions, and price.

      Thanks - I'm glad you liked the review. Yes, it is quite pricey, especially dual zones with sleep tracking. All of the more well-known bed cooling systems are, unfortunately. At some point, I might test one or two of the low cost water cooled pads I've seen online, but I don't have very high expectations from what I've seen others say about them. Still, I think it would be useful by means of comparison, so it is on my mind to do in the future. Thanks for continuing to watch my videos and leave comments by the way. Thanks, I really appreciate the positive feedback! I don't know of any white noise machine that does that. What you describe is essentially active noise cancellation, which is more in the realm of noise cancelling headphones. There are many excellent headphones that do that, but comfort in bed and battery life tends to be an issue. As for the updated version, it's been on my mind for a very long time to do and hopefully I will in the next year. It takes me a very, very long time to do these kind of multi product comparisons, so they keep getting pushed down my to-do list! In the meantime, I did update the written comparison on my website not long ago. It contains a roundup of all the white noise machines I've used in the last couple of years, so you might find that helpful. I wanted to convert it to video, but I haven't had time. Here it is: www.nosleeplessnights.com/best-white-noise-machine-reviews/

    Is there a mode where they just block out sound and don’t play anything? I don’t want to listen to anything just want something that will block out noise.

    • @nosleeplessnights1
      @nosleeplessnights1 8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Unfortunately not because they don't have active noise cancellation. The only blocking they would do is whatever they block just by being physical objects in your ears. And they are nowhere near as good as earplugs if used just for that.

    • @dab4539
      @dab4539 8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@nosleeplessnights1 Ok, thanks do you know of any ear buds that would do that?

    • @nosleeplessnights1
      @nosleeplessnights1 8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@dab4539 None that I've tried that were specifically made for sleep. But many standard earbuds do. The Apple Airpods Pro 2, for example, have amazing noise cancellation with no music being played. But they are quite big and the battery won't last all night. So with normal headphones, it's a case of working out what might fit your needs.

I've also had a box of Mack's that looked quite different, only for the next one to be back to the original, which was confusing. Perhaps try ordering the Flents from somewhere else to see if a different supplier still has the old version in stock before they run out?

      Have you played around with all the settings in the app to test them? Are you double tapping quite quickly? If you tap slowly, they don't work well for me. You could also try a factory reset. Here are the instructions on their website: "Place the earbuds in the charging case and leave the case open. Press and hold the button on the charging case for 10 seconds until the LED indicators on the case flash 3 times. This confirms that the reset was successful."

I've been searching for so long for a white noise machine that I can carry around in my pocket, but I just cannot find one that has all the basic needs (small, long battery life, ocean sounds, timer so it turns off by itself). Thanks! Unfortunately not. In my experience, once they get down to this small size, some features have to be left out. Your best bet if you want all of those things is a small bluetooth speaker connected to your phone and stream the ocean sounds instead. If you don't want to use your phone, then I don't currently know of a standalone white noise machine that fits in a pocket and does all the things you list.

      @@nosleeplessnights1 These things are ridiculously expensive & I doubt they would be fixable. I need a more affordable option. I found a workaround last night by cooling my bed down with ice packs in lunch boxes, so it was cold when I got in it. I then kept a pillow cool by the bed and swapped it over but if I could find an affordable way of keeping myself cool all night, I wouldn't have issues at night. My workaround will not be v effective on a hot humid night! The cool pillow stopped the flush completely: so being cool is definitely the key to dealing with it.

    • @nosleeplessnights1

      Unfortunately, the active bed cooling systems are all relatively expensive, yes. There just aren't many to choose from, with nothing really in the way of an effective and cheap alternative. I know one or two have come along over the years, but they failed - likely due to the amount of problems they had. If a company comes along that makes a budget-friendly alternative to the main players that actually works well and doesn't have major problems with leaks, noise, connectivity etc, I will be reviewing it in a flash! Obviously, there are alternatives to the BedJet - fans. But there aren't really any good alternatives at the moment to the Eight Sleep and Dock Pro that do what they do effectively and reliably. At some point, I'd like to test out some of the cheaper pads I sometimes see online, but I don't plan to right now. There are various ways to try and keep cool in bed if you don't have air conditioning. There are tons of articles that discuss them. As clever as some of them are, the remaining question is always how do you keep the surface you lie on cool all night using simple DIY techniques? Answers on a postcard...

    Hi Ethan! Thanks for the info! I am leaning towards the Baloo, throw size (12lbs). I live in a desert and think the Baloo looks like a good lightweight/breathable option for me. But I have a question about the weight. I have seen recommendations of 13-14lbs for my weight (114lbs). I tried a 19.4lb (48"x74") one once in a store and it felt wonderful for the few seconds that I tried it. Perhaps after being under it longer it would have become to heavy. Anyway, what are your thoughts on the 12lb weight? I see here that the Baloo is one of your favorites.

    • @nosleeplessnights1
      @nosleeplessnights1 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi! You're welcome. So, the weight can be a bit confusing to decide on sometimes because the effect of the pressure it puts on your body can vary by the actual width and length of the blanket, and by your own body size and shape too. As a slightly odd example, I have quite big feet, and I find that if the blanket is very heavy and small in terms of dimensions, it puts too much pressure on my toes when I sleep on my back. Those are things they don't really tell you about when you look on company's websites, or listings on sites like Amazon. It's also something you might not feel if you try one for a brief period of time as it can take longer before you realise that it might be an issue. So, I personally find slightly lighter weighted blankets work well and nowadays I tend to steer away from using very heavy ones. Since I know the Baloo can be exchanged if the weight isn't right for you, I think I'd be inclined to start with the lower weight initially. Experience has taught me that it's more likely someone will enjoy and keep using a weighted blanket if it's on the lighter side of their body weight ratio than the heavy side. I'm sure there are exceptions, and there are various factors to take into account. It all boils down to trial and error really, but I think lighter is the best starting point. Also, if you live in a very hot area and don't use air conditioning, I'd be tempted to go with the Bearaby rather than the Baloo, based on the materials they currently use. If you have air con, good fans, or a bed cooling system, it doesn't matter which you pick though.

      Hi! That's a really good question. Unfortunately, I won't be able to give you a straight answer though. Firstly, it's impossible to tell in advance because it depends on various factors, such as the performance of the earplug, the suitability and fit in your ear, the smoke alarm sound, proximity, your hearing, how asleep you are, etc. Secondly, I don't want to be responsible for your decision making when it comes to important safety points like this. At the end of the day, using earplugs will always reduce some noise. It's up to the individual to weigh up the pros and cons of the amount and type of noise they block.

    • @nosleeplessnights1
      @nosleeplessnights1 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You're welcome. I think the unbearable thing is often with foam earplugs. Some people just hate the way they feel. It can be particularly bad if you choose earplugs that are too large for your ears, or if you have sensitive ears. But with some experimenting with different sizes or perhaps trying other materials, you might find a comfortable way to mask the traffic noise. The smoke alarm issue is a different matter though, as it's obviously not dependent on comfort, but the balance between blocking the traffic and still hearing an alarm.

      They are definitely capable of blocking out a lot of noise, especially if your earplugs have already shown that around 70% can be blocked. Whether they block 100% or not is another question. On their own with no sound, they will won't help much. You need to play audio, and potentially quite loudly, to block out noise as loud as a dog bark. Then you need to weigh up the pros and cons of listening to audio loudly for an extended period of time, and how safe that is for your ears. The good thing is that there are lots of different sounds you can experiment with to see what blocks dogs best. I haven't done that, but you may get lucky and find a sound, or combination of sounds, that masks the barking well without needing to be at an unpleasant volume. You could experiment by using normal headphones and TH-cam to play some sounds similar to the ones the Soundcore have. For example, try brown noise, pink noise, river, waterfall, rain. If any of those on their own help with normal headphones, then give the A20 a go. Just keep an eye on the returns time window and send them back for a refund if they don't do any better than your earplugs or aren't comfortable enough for you.
