Hi Paul, Thanks for the previous video and this update video. I've just pulled the trigger on a model x - your video helped with this decision, so thanks for the update.
Ok good luck, I have had a few things go wrong since I made this video, I should do another update. Work done so far: - CCS Retrofit by Tesla mobile ranger - Rear brake pads replaced by BFC Padworth - Steering column lower i-shaft replaced by BFC Padworth - 4 x GT Radial tyres (Tadley Tyres) - 12v battery replaced (was original) by BFC Padworth - Front half-shafts replaced at Tesla Winchester (£300 all-in due to TSB) - Rear suspension drop links replaced by Cleevely Mobile - All 4 front lower suspension arms replaced by Cleevely Mobile - Upper front suspension control arm ball joints injected with grease (I did that!) to get rid of awful squeaking noises - Front nsf 20" wheel replaced due to cracked rim causing slow deflation (bought a refurbished wheel off eBay and got it repainted 'sonic carbon' to match) To-do: - Replace front upper control arms (they have play and suspension rattles) - Diagnose PAS issue (steering assist fails on hard lock), check/renew earth connection or replace steering rack (probably get a cheap one off eBay as Tesla has quoted £3.5K!!!) - 4-wheel alignment
@@DJBaldPaul - That is quite the list there. Do you still like your car I guess would be my main question (some people get put off by these sorts of things going wrong?) The one I've bought is a 2020 LR - so has the MCU2 and it's done 72k miles. It's just had a bunch of work done to it by tesla (new brakes/pads, Suspension work (once I get the car on saturday I'll know more), Steering rack replacement and new tyres in March this year. So I'm hoping a lot of the major jobs, short term have been completed. Anyway, I appreciate your cander and clearly not a paid promotional video (which here in 2024 is difficult to track down to be honest). Sorry, quick question - what home charger do you use (if any other than the 3pin UK)? Would for sure love to see an update video, if you have the time.
@@redhammer999 It’s good that you’ve had those items taken care of, I was expecting some issues due to the high mileage and what I considered to be a fairly cheap price I paid, so I’ve not been too peeved. I’m guessing you paid quite a bit more for yours? I’m with Octopus so picked the Zappi from their small list of supported chargers, it’s been working fine on their Intelligent Go tariff. Charging overnight at 7p/kWh is a game changer. I’ve just booked my car in with Cleevely to have the upper suspension arms changed.
@@DJBaldPaul Hi Paul, Yeah I paid around 34 for mine, I'll maybe do a video of it when I get it, if interested? I will be getting octopus go - since I don't need the intelligence one, I'm going to get a tesla wall connector I think and install that. I will be doing the 7/kwh charging for sure... Cleevely - I've heard a lot about them, sounds good to me to be honest and I might have them do a check over on my car when it arrives. Bit of a car nerd, so very excited for tomorrow.
When you’ve entered Sheffield as your destination, it’s added the Warwick supercharger to get you to Sheffield. To add Banbury in the route, use the “edit trip” button then add stop…search and add the Banbury waypoint and drag it in the order you want. That’s it i think
@@DJBaldPaul There should be an ellipses just beside end trip which when selected brings up the functionality to edit trip. It’s such an integral part of the navigation trip planner and should be there.
EVs can be very efficient in urban areas - if you do it continuously. What is hurting your range on those short trips is all the gaps where the car is left not used.. so all the heating up / cooling down that the car is managing each time you start a new trip. Just look at the consumption graph when you initially set off will be significantly higher than the rest of the trip. Then energy consumption in the city improves a lot with gentle acceleration - as well as saving the tyres.
I'm in the US and bought a 2017 Model X 100D with 93k miles for $29k, compared to others I've seen for sale I think it was a good deal. Our family really likes it, taken it on a few trips and like you I don't think the supercharging speed is a hinderance at all - in fact it makes the trip a lot more relaxing and enjoyable. I thought it was funny your kids were embarrassed about being dropped off with Falcon doors - the first thing I asked my son (10y/o) when looking at it was "are you going to embarrassed if we pull up to carpool with these doors?", he said no of course not, my daughter (almost 12) isn't either. I was pretty embarrassed having people look at me though! My wife doesn't like the attention either :).
I’m considering buying one after seeing both your videos, will need to bargain hard to cover all the “what ifs”;…same for any 2nd hand vehicle of course. Thanks for sharing your experiences
Great video 👍 if you plan your route using the Tesla app you can add stops on the way then send it all to the car. I approached Tesla re. corrosion on my rear spoiler but they weren’t interested…my understanding is that the corrosion will not get worse so probably best just to paint over it as I have. Looking forward to more videos - great work!👍👍
Thanks for the video. I'm in the same position as yourself and looking to get a family car on the used car market. I'll see how I go with ask if your information. I'm sure they'll offer a solid state battery replacement for the battery pack, even for older tesla's. Thank you
You really think someone will produce a solid-state replacement? I doubt it somehow. If you do go for a model X, try and get one that's still got a decent amount of Tesla battery warranty left (eg 2 years or more) just to provide that peace of mind. That means 2018 or newer.
Good vid I’m not a massive fan of ev’s, but cool tech. I recently purchased my next long term car and did seriously consider a Tesla, but big issue with any EV for myself is I wouldn’t be able to easily charge at home, and are grid in the north isn’t great to rely on it. And being in a remote area I need something I can really apon. Also we’ve just come back of are first long trip in my new to me car to Normandy only needing to fill twice on over 1600mile trip and still have a quarter of a tank. And that was with a diesel v8 no real planning needed for fueling or concerns and sticking to the speed limits and being stuck in some traffic on the m6 and m25. And done some on the spur adventures like to pub instead of services. Plus I prefer having a decent 4x4 especially with all the wet wether we’ve had this year and for winter. As I’ve always say if you like or want a EV enjoy but don’t force people who it doesn’t work for or is unsuitable for to have one.
Totally agree, everyone's circumstances are different and I'm not here to convince anyone to get an EV, I just wanted to share my experience and show what you can expect from an older Tesla Model X now that prices have fallen to a point where your average man in the street can afford them. I funded mine with the insurance payout from my S-Max (written off) plus some savings, so luckily don't have any financing to worry about.
Hello can you do video anout the cost of charging vs cost of petrol i think this is what usualky gets over looked. I thought nj the super chargers cost more to charge the car if im not mistaken
Not sure, I have seen posts from people that managed to get it fixed under Tesla's anti-corrosion warranty, but I have seen other posts where they refused. So probably best to assume not, and if they do then treat it as a bonus!
Matrix headlamps on an Audi Q7, depending on model would have been optional extra of about £3500 so not comparable really. 2018 is a lifetime ago as far as ev’s are concerned. My model y has matrix headlights which were fitted when the car was made, but were only switched on in June 2024, with a software update at no cost. There is a lot of opinions around on the internet and in the press about ev’s in general and particularly Tesla which is nothing but total rubbish. So I would suggest for your own sanity you take with a pinch of salt. Wipers are a problem, or should I say were, again almost cured with a recent software update. As far as your satnav is concerned mine does everything you wished yours did, maybe its due an update, but certain versions don’t get full update, I think it depends on the processor fitted to your model. So there are quite a few variations of the navigation software. I would suggest you join an online group of Model X owners and make enquiries with them from all your queries and not rely on word of mouth or media rubbish. Thanks for the interesting video, I look forward to future updates. Oh and I came from an Audi Q5 so some experience of that brand.😂
Yeah, my MX is on the latest s/w version and nav version, updates for both came down just a few weeks ago, unfortunately no new features were added. I just don't think they are going to provide any more feature updates for such an old car.
I've checked the paperwork and it says "100D" not "P100D", so the only place it has the "P" is on the back. I'm still wondering whether Tesla misbadged it, but have no idea if this is a common occurrence or not. It's only had 1 owner from new so only 1 person could have added the "P" if they were that way inclined. But the kinds of people that own these cars aren't going to be motivated to do that are they?
This car is very inferior to a German counterpart, no comparison. I've had two Model S's and a Panamera, there is no comparison between quality, features, service, support, etc. Teslas are fun off the line and the app is cool. Their software is quite good but so many of the "car" bits are terrible quality.
For someone who complains about the gullwing doors being inconvenient, why didn't you check that before buying the car? Who buys a vehicle and then does the research? It’s beyond me. What’s your yearly service cost compared to your old internal combustion engine (ICE) car? It's amusing when someone buys a 6-year-old vehicle and expects it to perform like new, using the excuse of 'Well, I had a car before.' Which one of your previous cars had regular monthly updates that actually improved it? The answer is none. And as for the comment about nobody putting a 'P' on the rear badge - it’s always about trying to appear like they have something better than they do.
