The game is a unique and sometimes flawed game that ends up being a brilliant study in storywriting.

FYI: It's SCOTSMAN not SCOTCHMAN. We're not a nation of drink.
I have it preordered and love this review.
I'll definitely be picking it up, I really enjoyed Vampyr and this looks like a solid AA game which, I have to say, usually brings more enjoyment for me these days vs so called AAA games.
Will be buying after I finish Robocop as I promised myself some time back 'no pre-orders' and I'm sticking to it lol.
Thanks, as always for the review.
I had £20 credit from the Playstation Stars app that bascially cut the game's price in half and I've had a generally good time with all of DontNod's stuff so I had no real hesitations with picking it up.
I used to love their games, then they fell off a progressive cliff with the 2nd installment of Life is Strange onwards(LOVED the first). I just couldn't play their stuff anymore.
This one also looks to be the same. Worse, it seems to have Vampyr's system of "you want to be powerful? do evil things". I don't like a game punishing me for playing as morally good.
Hard pass. DontNod died a long time ago.
I love dontnod versatility.
They are not afraid in doing different genres.
This is true
Third person action is where they started out before everyone started thinking of them as the 'choices-driven story game' devs.
Unlike AAA games studios that play it far too safe to the point of stale and boring games.
9:07 "Not even the younglings survived." Hehe, Ani on the hunt again?
I noticed that had to put it in
Been waiting for a review before I pulled the trigger on this. Knew ACG wouldn’t let me down.
Its great
I played through the entire game (all side missions and main quest) and can wholeheartedly say do get it...better than most recent AAA games and Witcher meets Ghost Whisperer imo.
@@lanycera Playing it now. And I’m liking it very much so far.
It's a great game. I'm playing it now and it's just beautiful
Bought vampyr on the strength of the acg review - one of the games of the generation imo. Getting this for sure
Sadly, had a lot of multiplayer games at the time of Vampyr's release, so I didn't get to play it at launch, but man, did I feel like I made a bad decision, when I finally got to play it.
Such a great game with amazing atmosphere. I remember how terrible I felt when in one district I ate too many people and the entire district collapsed with not enough people to protect it and when I came back it was completely overrun and nobody else was around. I felt like such a POS because I ate a few of them who weren’t that important or good morale to help grow my power. lol. It genuinely made me think, “What did I do!?”
@@TheProphegy exactly, you just wander around the wasteland of the district, all those stories cut short. And it can happen even when your intentions are good! I loved it!
I really like the gameplay segment at the end of the video.
Thanks and noted!
Yeah that was a good touch
Was waiting to watch this before I bought. Easy decision to buy now, thanks as always! Also excited for the next podcast! Hope you're feeling a little better
Appreciate it spread the word!
Banishers looks sweet. Amazing review as always.
Loved Vampyr, might just check this one out as well.
Cheers, mate!
Hope you enjoy it!
Keep up the great work pal.
I started playing Banishers yesterday. I was pleasantly surprised early on when the game started and this continued to grow. I knew it was AA and that's fine, generally these games take far more risks in concept and gameplay.
What really helps sell this game is the excellent level of voice work. No offence but British accents in games of older years are superior. The northern accents, the Scots accent add so much character. They feels like they intended to voice the roles of the characters they portray. This really sells the games time frame and grim design.
BG3 did the same thing. Throw in Eastern European and British voice work and these games shine.
I was playing the rebirth Demo last week and right away the American accent killed it for me...I switched to Japanese...
Banishers feels like a really good game. It has soul, character and mystery...
Looking forward to throwing more time at it .
You bet and thanks!
@@ACGreviews Always enjoy your videos and analysis. You also pay attention to AA and indie games and as someone who's been a gamer in and around the scene from the late 70s it's good to listen and watch views from someone who tells it like you do...there is none of this modern influencer ideals and nonsense. Sort of guy who would enjoy sitting in the pub, a beer and chatting games with others who enjoy gaming. Thanks for the reply and keep up the quality work as always. 👍
Had my eye on this when it was announced, especially cause I enjoyed Vampyr so much. Glad to see it is worth the money! Also great to see a new review from you after all the shit you were dealing with! Glad you’re feeling better 🤘🏻
This has been on my wishlist for months now. I'm excited to get my hands on it.
Got this in the mail today. I like DONTИOD's games. I liked them since *Remember Me* (PS3). LOVE that game, which was inspired by Total Recall, but still its own thing.
I also have Vampyre, but that’s been on my backlog since release. I doubt Banishers will be on my backlog long, tho.
I'm not a Dont Nod fan, but am quite interested in Jusant and Banishers, remember avoiding Vampyr cause it looked a bit dated, then got it on the Epic store and loved the game, it's rough but so damn cool and filled with style
Vampyre was great but ya rough for sure
>game from 2018
>omg it looks too old for me to play hurrrr
Fucking plebeian adhd-riddled zoomer
This looks awesome. Always love to play through a AA single player game as the stories are usually vrafted with love and you can tell.
This has been one of my most anticipated games since it was first announced. Narrative story-driven games like this are 100% my jam, I'm happy to hear it delivered on those fronts.
Enjoy it!
I'm so glad you review AA games like this. I was really interested in this game. I will check this out, thanks!
Great review man! I pulled the trigger on this. Looks like a lot of fun and interesting ideas mixed together.
It is exactly that. Ping me back when you play it
@@ACGreviews digging it so far. Atmospheric, great music. I’m getting some Sinking City vibes too, which I ain’t mad at. Appreciate the recommendation.
Knew since the very first trailer this game wasn’t for me but I’m always happy to hear you speak on games.
Thanks War appreciate it
Cautiously optimistic about this, glad to see a video from you! I really love my action RPGs no matter how jank (I really liked Mars War Logs for some reason LOL) Just bought Helldivers 2 and waiting for Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered and Pacific Drive, so will have to hold out on this just a little bit more. Shame review coverage for this game only coming out so close to launch else would have grabbed this! (good financial decisions also not my forte so will see lmao)
Thanks for the review as always!
Ya if you can handle War logs you are in good shape
Vampyr was my favorite game of 2018 (I think it was 2018 lol.) So I'm very excited for this!
You are my favourite game reviewer. I really respect your reviews and the way you chose to deliver the information. Please keep up the good work.
More to come!
ACG is awesome. Another awesome reviewer is Mortismal Gaming
Looks interesting.
Good to have you back Karak
Hey, thanks
I just need to pry myself away from Hell Divers 2 long enough to check this on out. Great review as always.
Hope you enjoy it!
I really like the way the game looks, it may not be high fidelity but everything has a remarkable realistic randomness seldom seen in games, if that makes any sense. It's hard to explain but every inch seems handcrafted placing the right trees at the just the right place not to mention the shapes of the trees them selves and the elevation just adds to the sensation.
Agreed they did what they could with what they had
The game looks amazing 65inch 120hz TV makes it even better!!!
Thanks for your reviews, sir. If I'm ever debating a game, I always check if you have a review for it first; expectations going in.
No worries!
I bought this and personally think its great. For all the reasons I like Vampyr. Style, sound, good characters/voice acting. It's just.. cool.
Excellent review, Karak. Detailed, as ever. I hadn't paid much attention to this one before now, but it looks like something to check out. I like DONTNOD.
Glad you liked it!
I'm pretty deep into Persona 3 Reload and I don't see that changing anytime soon. But this is definitely a game I'll be checking out eventually. Looks and sounds fun.
your reviews are alwasy top notch basically only reviewer i watch cause of in depth and multi faceted review you put bigger channels to shame..
Number 1! There is a CME or Solar Flare coming tomorrow!
I'm going to look deeper into this.
Looks interesting, certainly more so than suicide squad killed Rocksteady or Skull & Drones.
Low bar to clear
For sure, but you have some who wouldn't agree @alex1212456
Thankfully, many of us have the savvy to see through soulless trash like suicide squad & Skull & Bone
@Captain.AmericaV1 sadly too many don't!
Thanks for the review. This looks like something I want to check out. Is there a demo available?
There is a demo on Steam now in case you haven't bought the game yet. It's about a 90 mn long play that goes through the intro mission and sets up the gameplay, characters and story nicely.
I am so psyched . Wish it was Vampyr 2 but I always wanted to play a pirate/scotsman with a little outlander sprinkled in there .
Great Video
Thanks
Lots of people were down on Vampyr but I did end up checking it on sale after ACG recommended it. Will definitely pick this one up
Same not sure how folks could be down on Vampyre. Thats like hating sex. Weirddos
Been waiting for this! Thanks for covering it: can’t wait to play it later today
You bet! Enjoy
I'll take this until the next Greedfall comes out. Thanks for the review fam
Thanks for the review. Was a bit on the fence about this one.
You and me both!
Appreciate all your work
-fan from South Africa
Thank you man appreciate that!
Great review as always but what the hell is a Scotchman? A man made of Whisky? I have heard of a Scotsman though.
Indeed!
Love DONTNOD and wanna support them on this! Besides some issues it looks great
If there wasn't Helldivers 2, Pacific Drive, & Nightingale releasing in February with Dragon's Dogma 2 nearing on the horizon, then maybe I'd consider Banishers. Though, Expeditions (that new Mudrunner game) has more personal appeal, but that's even likely going to get flown over.
...Nightingale might even be a V1-wait.
Its crazy busy
I’ll be grabbing this later in the year. Tomorrow happens to be the same day that Ultros launches!
Enjoy Ultros. Looks great
The only reviewer on the internet I watch great review again! Keep this up
Thanks spread the word!
Thanks for the heads up.
No worries!
thank you for the excellent review, as always! i’ve been a fan of dontnod since life is strange and i’ll definitely be picking this one up :)
Best reviews to watch out! Much love ACG
Thanks
My first thought was that "this looks like Ryse: son of Rome", and all the hacking and slash + spiritual world isn't really my thing, but that choice mechanic, multiple endings and the time period...interesting.
Maybe not a buy now, but on a healthy sale prize, yes.
Ya itt does have some of that dna
Give me that Helldivers 2 review ,im loving it and def looking forward to your opinion.
I would if the damned thing hadnt disconnected me so many times
Planning on getting it in a few days. Its the kind of game that most people will forget about but for those like myself looking for a game that is in the in-between like Robocop Rogue City then Im all for it. Thanks for the review ACG.
You bet. A unique game but very enjoyable
Hey karak i hope you are well. Thanks for another video from New Zealand. Have a great day
Hey, thanks!
Thank you once again, sir. I think I may give this a go, I have a soft spot for the games that you said it takes inspiration from. Vampyre, and Greedfall in particular.
Ya was honestly surprised by that
Excellent review! I find myself liking a lot of stuff you recommend, so I'm going to give it a shot.
Enjoy a unique game
I come for the comedy in the script and stay for the excellent information and context in the review
Thanks Paco
It's because of you that I played Vampyr and now I'm gonna play this one and I'm fairly certain I'll love this one too! Thx.
I forgot I pre-ordered this physically months ago, anyways it comes in the mail tomorrow. Oh well! Thanks ACG.
I thought it was just digital?
I bought the game on the PS5 before seeing this review. I always enjoyed watching your reviews even after I purchased the game. This Banishers review is spot on.
another great review karak, thanks brother.
Thanks for watching!
Looks good, will probably buy later on sale.
I'm sold, always enjoyed Dontnod choice-based storytelling and this premise just drives the nail in the coffin for me.. no pun intended.
Seems to hit the right notes - decent gameplay in an expanding sandbox to tell good stories. I get very strong Greedfall vibes, and that was an excellent story that deserved better polish in the gameplay (why did they keep reusing the palace map for all the factions?)
Pretty much exactly that
I think Greedfall also needs to improve map design because GF1 had very confusing layouts. Very easy to get lost within mazes labeled towns and villages and also the forest. What a horrible design choice.
Outside of that and adding more companion dialogue, I'm ready for part 2.
For sure
LAZINESS!
I was hoping for a review from you on this one. Yay!
Yay! Thank you! Appreciate it
I legit didn’t know this game existed until about a week ago.
I found out today
hooray the year is officially started with a ACG review
Indeed
Already bought it because Don’t Knod, but still stoked for the videos. Starts slow, but I’m enjoying it so far.
ACG how did you handle the part when the camera was rocking like you're on a wavy sea ⛵️ 🌊
Loving the talk about the pc settings. Total biscuit would be proud
He was a great guy
Had no clue Dontnod had a game coming out. I enjoy most of their games and this looks like another banger. I enjoyed Vampr so, here I go pressing that buy button.
Ya wish it had more uhmph in the PR department
The lip syncing is improved so much from vampyr. Game is pretty good and I'm glad that studio like Focus is on right step, hopefully other ones will make small steps forward instead of backwards. Great video as always, keep up good work 👍
Makes my day when I see the ACG notification! Thanks for all your hard work
thanks hope you dig it
Great review and has sold me on the game , ill go and pick it up tomorrow
Thanks Mech
The slow burn that this game is scratched my itch perfectly. And I love-hate the game for making me promise one thing and then make me rethink that promise 20 times.
This looks like a mixture between Hellblade Senuas Sacrifice and Vampyr ✨️
Never heard of this game before. This review has introduced me to it. Looks interesting. But not sure if I'd be willing to fork out full price for it.
That checks out its not cheap
thanks for the review , Looks great but coming from just completing Remnant 2 , my expectations are unrealistic for Banishers to be on the same level
Remnant 2 is great. Did you like it?
Banishers Ghosts of New Eden looks really interesting, despite some issues. Don't Nod deserve credit for doing something different, much like they did with Remember Me and Vampyre. I like what I'm seeing and I may end up giving the game a shot. Thanks, Karak! As always, I appreciate the honest, unbiased, and detailed review! Keep it up! God bless and stay safe!
Thanks!
@@ACGreviews Welcome!
Am absolutely loving this game. 100% worth the purchase and it will only improve after a patch or two.
Focus always drops good games with a little jank for charm. I love em.
0:00 I can’t be the only one who heard “ghost busting white boi”
Didn't know this was from the same developers of Vampyr... well, guess I'll buy it
Proud parents
Bro on a different note will you review Helldivers 2 at some point of time in the near future. I mean I'm planning to buy the game in my off season days in April and you are a very first person alongside Skillup I'll look at for the review of the game.
I got really tired of the constant disconnects.
Understandable. I too heard on Twitter about the connection issues. Thanks for the reply mate.
Ok I was thinking to wait a bit on this now I have to preorder sheesh my back catalogue is just getting…SMH thanks Karek lol
You bet have a great one!
Never pre order and support anti consumer business practices!
This looks interesting to play, will keep an eye on it
I missed acg reviews glad you back!
Me too!
Looks pretty decent. Gonna grab the console version to play with my fiance. Thanks for the review!
You bet enjoy
I look forward to eventually playing this but FF7 and Dragon’s Dogma will be consuming all my team in the near future.
You could probably finish this before those come out
Woop woop ACG in da house. Gonna buy this for sure looks awesome.
Thanks Scott! Enjoy it
I will :)@@ACGreviews
I really like the game. 50 hours played and i still have lots to do. I really like the exploration, the hunted cases and the story. This is my kind of game
Literally never heard of this game until today, now I'm hyped
It wasnt well known for sure
Been waiting for this review!
Stellar review, as ever. I think it's rad that these days we have more access to multiple creative venues. That people want to tell and make stories, and where in the beginning all we could do was talk by the fire. Then only the rich and learned could write books, then only rich people could make movies, now regular people can make movies. Games used to be super inaccessible because we needed to both have access to computers and know assembly to do anything, but now that these types of compelling stories can be turned into games, I think it's wonderful. This could have been another Turn of the Screw that I might not have known about. Active engaging narratives, I'm here for it.
Old bloke here. I'm 63, yea, I know! I love this game, been on it for a week now, I play for four hours per night. I have to admit, though, I am playing on easy. It's got better since I got the gun! But I love it.
Only review I ever trust. Thanks, as always for the informative review.
My pleasure!
I will most definitely be picking this up at some point, thanks for getting across what this game succeeds and fails at, great review as always Karak!
Have fun!
Thanks ACG,game looks very interesting.
You bet
Been waiting to see this review!!!
Enjoy and thanks for watching
Oooh I almost forgot about this one.
Its easy to get lost right now in games
About how long is it? Trying to get something on the shorter side so i can play Dragon's Dogma 2 when it drops
20-25 hours
Please do a review for Helldivers 2! The game is a ton of fun but it has not been reviewed by so many people. It's a $40 game but has more chatm and attention to detail than all these other $60 and $70 games.
Got kicked off all the time.
@@ACGreviews Yeah, their servers have been getting kicked around a lot with the number of players. They didn't expect 100k+ players to be playing their sequel. I hear it's worse for the PS5 folks since their updates and patches can't release as fast due to Sony having to approve them, but PC is getting improvements, especially now that we're back to weekdays and they have more staff on hand.
It could be but frankly they knew, we knew, everyone knew and the tons of crashing I got on PC and console aren't connection issues. Pisses me off
@@ACGreviews Dang, that's a bummer to hear. I just got done playing all day with some buddies, got 31 hours logged in according to Steam. I can't remember the last game that I've played this much at release. I wish you weren't experiencing so many connection issues. Hopefully you can cover it when they get things sorted out if there are not other titles you have to cover.
Hadn't heard of this game. Interesting...
Excellent review as always ACG! Thank you!
Thanks
