For me, its very encouraging that most of the cons seem to be on the technical end. Those things absolutely matter and should be addressed. However those things rarely take away from my enjoyment of a game. The pros list the story, combat, world and gameplay? Hell yeah. Those are literally the most important things, to me at least
I agree, its just surprising about the visual set backs. FF16 had the same visual issues at launch, figired that'd of been addressed for rebirths launch. I had to play 16 in graphics mode, blurr in performance just bothered me. Probably play rebirth the same
This is why I think I'll wait for the PC version. I want this game to look as good as possible with really high smooth frame rates. I'm smart and patient I'll be happy to wait for the better version of the game.

I must say they absolutely nailed the voice cast. People have told me Barrett sounds like a caricature but I actually find there is nuance and levels that go far beyond the PS1 version. Excited for Rebirth.

I don't see people shitting on this game besides the typical "I don't like remakes" crowd which has no real argument besides "original is better/I like turn based" which is quite irrelevant to the quality FF 7 Rebirth. Almost all reviews have been great for this game as it sits at like 93/100 on Metacritic with over 100 reviews. Square even lets reviews come out a week before release which is a sign of confidence on their end.
Hope to see this on PC this year, they mentioned in one of the previews that the soonest it would be out on "other platforms" was this summer so hopefully it won't be a 2 year wait like the previous game. Glad it's been getting great reviews so far.

This better have all the Bahamut summons, Neo Bahamut and Zero. Nothing like calling in an orbital strike from a space dragon, onto some small cactus creature.
That "small cactus creature" can only be reliably hit with a N/A Elemental Summon, so it's not really overkill when you don't have many options that aren't Limit Breaks.

I'm looking forward this. I played the original FF7 and it was so big it took me well over a year to finish and still didn't do everything. This is a top series where money = great entertainment value.
I miss playing ff7 as one big sprawling epic. I hope they combine the games in some way, if not as one continuous game with shared progression at least as a mass effect legendary edition kind of trilogy package.

I'm thinking about getting this game but I haven't made my mind up yet because when I play Final Fantasy 7 Remake a couple years ago I felt that it was extremely mediocre even though everyone had heaped praises on it. I bought Final Fantasy 16 when it released last year and I still haven't beaten it yet because I found it mediocre at best. I love Japanese RPGs but for some reason I just found Final Fantasy 15, Final Fantasy 16, and Final Fantasy 7 remake to be mediocre games. When it comes to Japanese RPGs I like games like Dragon Quest 11, Yakuza Like a Dragon, Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth, Octopath Traveler 2, etc.
The first one has way to much filler. This should have been one game. ..i would be ok with 2 games if it wasnt so blantlanty filled with filler to maximize profits. I feel like its disrespectful towards the fans.
Your review is the best! Was just coming off some site where the reviewer wasn't pleased with a certain story direction & came off bias in the review due to it. That shouldn't be, as proper review such as ACG focus on the technical aspects, the sounds, the fun, and weigh as little as possible on the story (art is subjective). ACG gives very honest reviews in a fun way. A few reviewers act as if it's a sacrilege to say anything negative about FFVII Rebirth. So it's nice to see this review. But for me, this game is like a classic car. No it's not as comfortable as a newer car. They're noisy. No way to play digital music and the speakers aren't great. But who cares? his game for me is like a classic car. I remember playing this game with my daughter. This game has me very excited to play.

Hell, Final Fantasy Mystic Quest had one on the SNES. And Samus could grab ledges years before Lara on the same SNES. So again I ask, why this decision?
4:27 *ROCK AND STONE* sounds. The way this 'series' works is weird to me. You continue right from where you were at the end of the last game but you're back to doing single digit damage and presumably only a handful of abilities after a 40+ hour escapade through Midgar. Do they at least acknowledge that or do you have to kind of suspend your disbelief and roll with it? I know it makes sense given the way this release is going, I know I'm not familiar with anything I was doing four years ago, but I'm curious how it works in the narrative.
Seems the consensus is that it's better than the first game. Which is good. Personally, I enjoyed FFXVI way more than the first FF7 Remake game. So I'm looking forward to this, but I think I'm more excited about the FFXVI expansion.
Damn, it seems like it's finally time to get PS5. Rebirth, DD2, Stellar Blade, Rise of the Ronin, etc. + the games that are already here like DSRemake, FFXVI, etc.
I know it's a standard jrpg thing, but I really don't like how they just dump every system on you at the same time after finishing chapter one. Materia upgrades, party changes, Queen's Blood, weapon upgrades, folios, etc. All within the span of like 20 mins. It's kind of overwhelming. I also think the exploration is really jittery. Like Cloud magnetizes to surfaces and there aren't good animation transitions so running around the open world feels awkward and inconsistent. But I'm having enough fun (and I loved the first one enough) to keep playing and hope it gets better. I'm glad this game actually has a personality, unlike FF XVI.
Something is going on in Japan because these studios are back on top form and it's amazing to see. Maybe it's because there's less focus on cynical live services?

Game Looks great at times, and battles are interesting and fun. But the underwhelming openworld running around and awful minigames are awful at times. Not feeling the game as much as i thought i would Hoping my time in the game improves
Very weird that the 10+ reviews that I listened to explained that there was so much stuff to do in the world that they got caught up in them and forgot about the main story. And then explain there was still stuff they needed to do 80+ hours into it.
One point I see few if anyone bring up which was addressed in this sequel that was a huge gripe for me is now cloud has a ranged attack. It was annoying on normal but playing on hard you frequently would have enemies fly either too high or out of bounds. If Barret wasn’t with you this became tedious particularly on hard mode when you have to conserve MP. Abilities wouldn’t land because clouds attacks were all ground based and you got 2 or 3 slashes before you had to land and you would be left open to knock down.
For me the lack of the traditional ATB system is what turned me off of the remake and back to the OG. All we wanted was the exact same game but in 4k but the devs decided to give us a reskinned FF15

This game is absolutely horrendous, just from the demo the combat is the worst I have ever seen in a game, enemies are all broken and have super armor, while the player character can be stunlocked by every single attack, enemies will CONSTANTLY do off screen attacks and nothing is telegraphed right. This game has EVERYTHING I despise in action games. The original is 10000000x better than this slop. Its like square enix doubled down on everything that make the combat garbage in the first part. Whoever made this game should be ashamed.

Honestly the main cast's voices are pretty spot on for me except maybe Tifa, but I still like the performance given there!

Neo and Zero might only be in the 3rd game since you don’t get them before reaching the Forgotten City in the original.

Something is going on in Japan because these studios are back on top form and it's amazing to see. Maybe it's because there's less focus on cynical live services?
I'm not sure Square Enix is a good exemple of a less cynical studios that wouldn't do live services games.

Game Looks great at times, and battles are interesting and fun.
But the underwhelming openworld running around and awful minigames are awful at times.

That water animation (or lack of) is straight out of PS3 era.
I've moved on to Persona and SMT since Square Enix seems hellbent on turning Final Fantasy into an action series.
Very weird that the 10+ reviews that I listened to explained that there was so much stuff to do in the world that they got caught up in them and forgot about the main story. And then explain there was still stuff they needed to do 80+ hours into it.
One point I see few if anyone bring up which was addressed in this sequel that was a huge gripe for me is now cloud has a ranged attack.
It was annoying on normal but playing on hard you frequently would have enemies fly either too high or out of bounds. If Barret wasn’t with you this became tedious particularly on hard mode when you have to conserve MP.
Abilities wouldn’t land because clouds attacks were all ground based and you got 2 or 3 slashes before you had to land and you would be left open to knock down.

Since remake got a complete edition with Integrade i'll push playing this out about a year and then hopefully a PC Port will have the fidelity and 60+

For me the lack of the traditional ATB system is what turned me off of the remake and back to the OG.
All we wanted was the exact same game but in 4k but the devs decided to give us a reskinned FF15

Thanks for the review. I'm debating if I wait and see if PC gets announced for this year or play it on my ps5. I have a gut feeling pc will take at least a year so if I run out of games before dragons dogma I might just take the plunge

This game is absolutely horrendous, just from the demo the combat is the worst I have ever seen in a game, enemies are all broken and have super armor, while the player character can be stunlocked by every single attack, enemies will CONSTANTLY do off screen attacks and nothing is telegraphed right. This game has EVERYTHING I despise in action games. The original is 10000000x better than this slop. Its like square enix doubled down on everything that make the combat garbage in the first part. Whoever made this game should be ashamed.
