Looks like they decided to go ahead and release the game on PC alongside the review embargo lift, so it's actually out now instead of tomorrow!
I just wanted Vampyr 2!!!!! :/ What do you thino @MortisimalGaming? Wouldnt you prefere a Vampyr 2 game?
Great review! You and ACG are the reviews that I actually pay attention to and look forward to now. I love my Sirius x and it runs great but I bought a legion go and that's my addiction now when it comes to gaming I would like to see maybe you incorporate the Asus Rog Ally or anything with the Z1 extreme in it you know into your reviews somehow that would be great. You know by compatibility how it runs. You know if you can run a smooth 60 or not just because the Z1 extreme is much more powerful than the steam deck so I would like to see how that compares. But yeah I'm glad that it runs great. I was excited about this game. Reminds me of a smaller version of the Witcher you know in the sense the way you're banishing goes like and you're doing with your three, even though you also do monsters in that game. But still glad to hear that it's got lots of side content and side stories and everything you know ties in at the end. I'm all for it the combat. I'm sure it'll get approved little by little with updates. It'll get better and better. Will it get perfect. Probably not. You know that's not really their strong suit. As you can tell with vampir that was the one thing where they struggled the most, but they're getting better at it. So I have hope that it'll be better in another game or two. They'll they'll be. You know successful and their combat will have gotten to the point where it's good using Google's auto voice dictation on the Pixel so if I didn't miss anything or any punctuations on my bad
Wow that’s so awesome
@@mrdadecounty3056I just watched ACG as my first review of this and now I’m here lol. You have great taste friend
@@kingdrakart7351why would want more bland boring dogshit
The abbreviation for this game is B:GONE. Probably the most fitting abbreviation for a title on banishing ghosts.
NICE. They definitely knew what they were doing.
Lol that’s amazing
Dude, that's so damn good.
I’ve recently been playing all of Don’t Nod’s works for the first time in anticipation of this game so I’m very happy that the story and atmosphere seem to be very solid!
I want to play Remember Me. I still regret not getting it in a bundle in 2016 lol
@@sodapopinksi667 i have some of those regrets too. I have yet to play that one but will play it on the Steam Deck in the near future!
Are you stupid wtf
Thanks for the review man, it was great.
Great review! Been looking to this game for awhile
been looking forward to your coverage of this :D
Comment for the algorithm. Very cool idea for a game. Looking forward to playing, and I love your review as always
Keep up the great work man!
Excellent review as always, this is the one review I've been wanting to see about this game. Looks great!
Great job on the review. Thank you 👍
I love this game so far. I'm at the part just after you get the rifle. Their relationship feels so natural, the choice system is so deep and leaves u conflicted like real life😢.The combat really opens up when u get the gun, switching between characters in combat and the feeling of traveling with a companion done very well.
I heard it's really bad with her just belittling the guy the whole time. Is that true?
Not the whole time. There is a point where that starts to happen more but you can find two in game reasons for that, one via a haunting and the other via lore. Essentially ghosts lose their humanity the longer they are around before becoming specters. I will say it can be a bit gratingbut ymmv
@@lastking3185Don't fall for the misogynist propaganda that goes around in certain gamer circles these days. I played through the game and everything feels natural. There is a certain part where the circumstances make them bicker at each other more.
You also have to keep in mind that Red is technically the reason Antea dies in the beginning of the game (whether he was influenced or not is up for debate) , so she's got a pretty valid reason to be mad at him. Mostly the banter between them feels organic to how a long time couple will often snipe at each other with little jabs that aren't meant to be truly hostile
Wait til you get the missile launcher
I wish the marketing was better for this. I’m a fan of DON’T NOD but didn’t even know this was coming out until the other day. I really enjoyed Vampyr so if this is an improvement over that, I think I’ll like it.
I feel ya. I had no idea this game existed until like an hour ago and a bunch of reviews came out for it.
That’s a little surprising considering there was tons of TH-cam marketing over the past year on it. Guess that wasn’t enough though
You both been living under a rock? This has been on my radar for months
WTF?! It ain't DontNod's fault that you guys have been living under a giant rock. There's tons of trailers, especially in the last few months, presenting and showcasing each and every detail about this game. It was also shown on every big gaming event last year. How you still managed to miss it is beyond me 🙈
Same.
I know this game exist because of this review.😂
I will be enjoying this a ton. Loved Vampyr too! Great review also!
So glad to see you got a review copy! Very curious to see how the game is and your reviews are always great
Great review as always, thanks!
Fair review. I personally enjoyed the combat later in the game and it was varied enough for me, but yes, it is the weakest part. I think you can miss additional information about the haunting cases, but you always get the most important information. I also was fine with that. The story is what carries the game and as I am mostly playing games for that, it is very much recommended from my side.
Seems pretty unique even for the dontnod standards. Glad to see you got a review copy, even if our particular taste is not the same for games, we overlap a ton and you’re very thorough with your work. Very few people try to do the background check, truly immerse themselves in the mechanics of games and progression systems and finally be wide enough to have a balanced review. You’re one of the best at what you do, you treat it as a job with utmost professionalism. Great review.
Great review as always!
Very good review! Thanks!
Very good review. Thank you.
One more for the algorithm. Thanks for the review!
I was waiting for your review to decide to get it or not. After listening to it, I shall buy it ^_^
personally, I don't play games with forced blacks in them.
Could you maybe add a quick chapter on game length? I realise it'll be a fairly specific time scale with you 100% and how you play the games but id enjoy and appreciate a rough idea of how much bang for my buck i should roughly expect. Amazing channel, similar interests in choices of games and even though this was an early access, free copy review I'm interested in giving this a go thanks to your review. Excellent work and my gratitude for taking the time to create your videos, legend!!
Halfway trough the game. LOVE IT !
My initial comment reflected the more tepid nature of my immediate response to this game. That said, I couldn’t really get it out of my head after initially watching your review. I rewatched your review recently and made the decision to get the game. Having a lot of fun with it so far, so I just wanted you to know that you’re the reason I ultimately gave it a shot. Thanks for all you do, best reviews on the platform imo.
Wow, you already beat this, and have a review out? That's great, I'll watch this as soon as I'm free!
Let me guess, it was an empty promise and you didn't watch the video.
Wooo! Been keeping an eye on this one for quite awhile and good to hear it's a good game. Vampyr was also one of my favorites so I'll have to pick this one up, too.
I bought this over the weekend and I'm impressed so far I'm enjoying it a lot
Thanks for this informative review! I'd be interested to know which action/adventure games have the most fun combat gameplay. Could it be a subject for a video?
Its just a comment to feed the god of the alghorithm, keep up the good work
Oh man, I really want this, but I should wait to see how The Thaumaturge goes in next week. I just got Helldivers 2, and it is a blast if you can get on, but they’re having issues with the servers tracking progress. Then there is Alone in the Dark, Dragon’s Dogma 2, and Rise of Ronin next month! And I know there are even more exciting titles that have slipped my mind! My gamer goblin will be well fed, but my wallet is gonna be hurtin’!
The Thaumaturge got delayed again, to March 4th.
@@dennisdavidov782 NNNOOO! 😭
For me it´s Dragons Dogma 2. I don´t think that I´ll need a new game even months after this one comes out.
@@JohnnyWalker1077 I hope that is true. It is a beautiful experience when a game is just as captivating after dozens or hundreds of hours as it was for the first five or ten.
@@Dust394 I really hope that it is. From what I´ve seen so far it looks really promising.
I really liked Vampyr even though it was rough around the edges. Great review! Will probably wait for a sale on this one
Wasnt going to buy this one but you convinced me, thanks for review
This one looks really fun. Gunna have to grab it
I've never heard of this game, but it looks amazing! Thanks for the review!
By what you say about the game structure, and also by the flavor of its 3rd person action game play,
it seems like this game took clear inspiration from the rebooted God of War games' combat and exploration.
That being the case, a combat which isn't much good, and low enemies' variety over that, are pretty bad things.
But there's the atmosphere and the story, which were already very interesting to me since the trailers.
And there's the Vampyr related choice/consequence structure, and possibly other similarities in how side content is presented.
Seems a game worth playing
(I'll wait to buy at a later time, as my usual).
Thanks for your videos!
Really interesting, One of the things I found the most interesting about the game was the Combat, especially on the harder difficulties. While I did not care at all about the side hauntings or optional Content. It's interesting how differently you felt about the different aspects of this game, but arrived at the same conclusion.
Awesome, I was hoping it would be good so that's going to be my next game once I'm finished with Infinite Wealth (currently in Chapter 13 and trying to get my island to 5 stars because I don't want it to end!).
great review man, you're fast lol game barely out!
Great review! Definitely looking forward to playing this tomorrow😁
I saw some stuff about it months ago but it didn't catch my attention. Though back then I didn't know it was done by Vampyr people. Now after seeing your review I'm excited to play it
Thank you. I may have missed this, but I would like you to give a run time for your games, even if it is approximate. You may have done this; I missed them, but if not, I think it is relevant information to add to reviews.
I dont remember if I mentioned it or not, main story is like 15-20 hours, full clear is more like 40
The music is so good. It just feels so spooky the whole time you play
I love Don't Nod, so I'm going to get this.
This might be your best review yet! Now I'm interested in this game lol
Can't wait to dive into this after my WoW raid. I really loved majority of the games that Don't Nod released, especially Life is Strange and Vampyr.
Thanks for the review Mort!
Is there a field of view or camera distance slider/option? Looks super narrow for a pc title.
I really love this game! I would really love more games within this world, especially as someone who loves world building and lore
Great news! Because I loved Vampyr :)
This game is awesome! I was so surprised. Single player, story driven rpg focused on story!?! Visuals sell it along with the voice acting.
great review mate, gonna try the game looks pretty interesting
I really enjoyed Vampyr and the protagonists drew me in even more. This is definitely on my radar.
Thanks for the review. Game was not on my radar but with you and Wolffps posting positive reviews it is now.
Especially if the atmosphere and exploration are good. That and story are more important to me than combat, especially since they have different difficulty options
Skaal!
@@MarkWilson-ij9jd :). Skaal
Thanks for the video. Ghosts, now those are the OG murder hobo. Onward to 300k. All glory to the algorithm.
I thought the combat was ok in Vampyr, the problem being that it was hard to avoid during the sidequest backtracking so there was too much of it. And a certain boss fight.
Being a paranormal investigator but the game not letting you fail at it is very Witcher 3 (minus a few sidequests maybe) : a shame, but probably a necessary compromise to get a bigger audience.
I heard a lot of reviews knocking the combat, but I’m really enjoying it.
I bought this on your recommendation. I agree about the combat and enemies, the story and atmosphere way more than make up for it. The voice acting is believable and the music was great for the setting. As it is an action adventure game I didn’t expect it to have amazing combat but rather a focus on story. We need more of this in gaming, a reason to care about what you are investing time into. Most games don’t suck me in, this one has. Another action adventure game that amazed me was Star Trek Resurgence. I cared about the characters, not about how many enemies I killed in one shot. I am finding this game refreshing, sometimes something simple but engaging is what we need. Not every game needs to be a struggle or grind, but they do need to be fun. Fun has been the missing ingredient for the last few years imo, well from AAA anyways.
Love Your reviews And I must thank You for making me wait With Your honesty
If Only The combat was better
I’ll wait for a sale And play My backlog of games a bit more ❤
I really love The Story set up though 🤔
So who knows if I keep thinking about it i’ll buy it 🤷♂️ dontnod is a great studio
yup march 22nd gunna be great!!
I love Vampyr I will try this game out once I clear all my backlog
Just found you and subscribed. So what would you rate the achievement difficulty on a scale of 1 through 10?
Like a 5, you'll have to make an effort but they are not difficult to get.
@@MortismalGaming appreciate it friend
Question, which ending you'd like the most? some players said that evil ending is mind blowing.
I think the 'good' ending was the was most rewarding from a storytelling stand point
Thanks for this review, was really unsure if i should get the game right away or not.
Sadly never finished Vampyr or any LiS game, but i like the way DontNod tells some stories and Banishers sounds fun, but was unsure if it was worth for the story and decisions. I like games where you clearly have decisions that have impact and are not just show. Sadly some of Dontnod games seem to not have this much impact in decisions.
DontNod's Remember Me for example had these, really liked the game, but it basicly didnt have any decisions, but the story always sounded like it would have decisions or you should have gotten the option to choose.
Love this game! Wish it got more love!
From what you are describing, the decisions in this game seem to be the "Good or Bad" kind of decisions. You know the right choice, and it's up to you if you want to go the good path or the bad one.
Are there Quick Time Events, and if there are, can you toggle them off?
No
QTEs are my least favorite things about so many modern games. 😫 I have nerve damage in my hands, so they make a lot of games literally unplayable for me.
@@sylvirgiomanach1491 Sad to hear about your nerve damage :(
Can you play the whole thing on Story and clean up collectible and fighting achievements at the end? You said resources respawned but do enemies do?
Non boss enemies respawn yeah, and yeah you can
@@MortismalGaming Okay thank you, so it’s just a question of how many playthroughs based on the decisions you make. Probably a minimum of 2 or 3?
$ 49.99. Great review brother ! Onward to 300 K !!
I think I’d be more interested if I wasn’t having to manage the progression of/switch back and forth between two characters. I tend to just like focusing on one character in these kinds of RPGs. Great review.
Good show sir
@MortismalGaming dude please for the love of God tell me how to open the 3rd story door on the huge windmill off the beach/coastline. I have looked everywhere and I cannot find a line of sight that actually lets you see inside to shoot the lock. Please tell me that’s what you do and there isn’t a key lol
You get a key via the main story for the windmill at a certain point
I love this amazing game! It has a deep well written (disturbing and spooky) main story-line with intriguing and interesting side quests; the playing characters Red and Antea are brilliantly voice acted and wonderfully animated, as are the non-playing characters; the world building and design is excellent with beautiful graphics, great traversal mechanics and fantastic exploration; the combat is both dynamic and fun; the music and sound effects are truly haunting and atmospheric; and finally there are multiple endings which are all very satisfying. This truly is a great game that deserves to be played and appreciated. 👻
I adored Vampyr, thought it was a brilliant game and the social system was so innovative. Def gonna give this a try
Never played a bad Don't Nod game, their games might not be blockbusters but they always bring something interesting to the table. Also, most of their releases are new IPs which is commendable.
The first Life is Strange is hands down in my top 5 games of all time. Very few games actually hit me in an emotional way. But the climax of Chapter 2, on the roof, I remember distinctly having anxiety stress in my stomach. You know that burning acid feeling you get when you get anxious about something? That hit me leading up to that scene. And they set it up so well too. For me, I love most games I play, but I can't really consider them my personal GOATs unless I feel a genuine emotional reaction to them. And LiS 1 definitely hit me in the feels. Love that game. They also made the one vampire protagonist game that I actually enjoyed playing, as I really hate the vampire genre as a whole. But their Vampyr actually was set up in a way that I could enjoy playing. So yeah when I saw the trailers for this, I was very interested.
@@happyninja42 The writing in their games is top notch, Vampyr and LIS are my favorites as well, also really liked Remember Me.
@@DoomsdayMayBeOkay Rmember Me was done by DontNod? Didn't know that. That one didn't really hit any vibes for me so it kind of just flew past my radar. Might have to check it out.
We must live in different worlds. I haven't met a single Don't Nod game that I enjoyed. They are barely video games. I feel like the writers wanted to work in TV or movies but landed at a video game studio instead.
@@thomashooper2451 eh, different tastes for different people. 🤷♂
Cool looking game, I really liked Vampyr so its nice to see the developer continue to make creative stuff. I think $60 is a little too much for this game, $50 would've been more fitting, but I see myself playing it in the future
Seems like a good game to pick up on sale in a year.
How long did it take you to beat this in a week? How long did it take you, and ay what difficulty?
I would also like to know do you think it was o e of the hardest games you've played or more on the easier side?
Did you prefer the ascend or blame route? I can't decide which would be a more engaging story
Ascend makes the most sense to me, blame is a bit forced and kind of out of character imo
Were you able to get all the achievements in 1 playthrough? Or does that require multiple playthroughs?
Minimum of 2 for the ending achievements
For the algorithm!
As always it's very nice to have your opinion. After 5 reviews I was still puzzled about this game. Combat is a very important part of an ARPG and here it's very clunky. Nevertheless I really love ghosts' stories and the period of the game. The 17th century in a dark fantasy setting in the middle of the witches' hunt and colonialism era is very attractive and extremely rare in video games. You said it: "It's worth a buy". OK then, I'll proceed. I expect combat to suck and I'm ready for that. It's only the journey that counts this time, the protagonists and their relationship. 🙂
I loved vampyr. I actually didn’t know about this game. I think I’ll get this over ff 7 rebirth first then ff7 at a later date. DD2 is day one though
Finished Last year Life is Strange 1 / BtS Remastered and LiS 2. Still need to finish Vampyr and the other games the devs did in the meantime.
It feels very familiar to God of war
I hope one day to add a pointer to the map if lets say you want to go to a specific location and also a mini map on the bottom right corner of the screen, the usual staff, it happend a lot of times with me to want to go to a specific location and always taking a wrong turn and needed to open the map. I mean come on if the game wants you to explore the map lets make it a little bit easier.
Sounds like a really interesting and fairly creative game, though not sure if it's for me, gotta give them credit
Without getting into specifics ate there other ranged option besides the rifle you get later in the game. Personally I could care less about how flushed out melee combat is if there are enough ranged options. I like aiming and hitting shots, espcially big shots. Also, how are the rifle mechanics?
Could I spec into a more ranged style player in this game?
Rifle is pretty standard ranged stuff, but no it's the only primarily ranged thing
You can change up your gear and talent choices to get more out of the rifle and buff rifle damage after certain abilities or getting a kill but that's about it
Seems very Witcher-ey in concept. I like Witcher-ey things, I may have to try.
I love this game I think it’s a solid 8/10 I think a dlc and combat improvements would push it to a 9 arguably a 10 games like this belong in the pool of video games to play
I saw Banishers getting a 7/10 somehwer else, and that review also mentioned underwhelming combat and a lack of enemy variety as two big points holding back the combat. I'm not surprised. Don't Nod has always been a studio that develops video games about stories. The actual nuts-and-bolts gameplay has never been a huge priority for them.
Then they'll never make it anywhere cause unless the story is the witcher quality you have to have good combat
I love dontnod versatility. They are not afraid in developing games of different genres (life is strange, jusant, vampyr)
Remember me was also interesting
What is the name song in intro?
Doesnt have one, it was made for the channel

Excellent game! extremley well put together and compelling. Also this game has the best side quests ive ever played as each one is different and ties into the story as a whole.
This game feels like a spiritual successor to Vampyr and i couldn't be happier.
Kudos to the devs for actually optimizing the game on UE5 unlike some devs enforcing upscaling (looking at you, Remnant 2).
Confirmed to be in the same universe as Vampyr actually
Does the blame/banish/ascend setup limit your playstyle / enjoyment like in Vampyr? Tried to go pacifist there but was so underpowered it was a massive chore.
