I think the real race was race 1. My camera guy even said, “C’mon man! 2 out of 3!” I was, like, “Nah. That was a perfect demonstration of RENNtech vs. AMG.” But I did 2/3 anyway.
1. The AMG isn't the p30 performance package. So it's just 518 horsepower. Weighting 4,300+ lbs without the driver. 2. The AMG is rwd so it shows it true potential from a roll. 3. The heat, humidity and altitude affects it's performance. 4. The guy driving the AMG do not know how to launch his car (he can't drive).
@@talkditingsdem5799 we did discus how he was new to an AMG beast with only RWD at the end of the video. He just needs to dial himself in to his new car is all. Correct on all other counts. The D-Alt affected both our cars equally.

Was looking forward to this. It would have been interesting for you to switch cars. This fellows reaction times killed him. The first race would be the best read for the difference between the cars. A better analysis would be for your best time in both cars. The Renntech tune certainly seems worth the money.
Yes my reaction times sucked. Not having the car for very long and a hectic work schedule didn't leave much time to get some launches under my belt. Too much boost created wheel hop, too little and it lagged bad.
Great video. I also have a cls550 and debating to go for the Rentech or Weistec tune. Once I get it I might come down and do a test run test at Bradenton. I'm up in Tampa area.

Nah even with bad reaction time the Amg would still beat a 550. This video just sold me. I got beat multiple times in my gls 550 by 63’s. Now although they were sedans the gapping was disrespectful, and I regularly beat up on 53, 43, infinities, certain bmws(lol) etc i need that extra speed.
If you drive the car like a rational human being, there should be no additional wear or tear on your power train. Do I get on it every now and then? Sure do. But I also don't "race" my car...with the exception of the RENNtech vs. AMG video I did. @@traybutts4425

I think Race 1 was everything a well maintained CLS 63 AMG and/or a RENNtech ECU tuned 550 can do with a DA of 1550'. Some sluggish R/T's on both of our parts that race. AMG:.12.46 1/4 mile - .707 R/T = 11.75 sec. Assuming a low DA (close to sea level) and a professional class R/T (sub 0.1 sec) all the time, upper 11's could very well be expected from a CLS 63 AMG.

@@angusjoejohnson1036 We weren’t running in stock testing conditions. Stock testing conditions are 59F and A: 29.92. As shown in the video @1:25 , we were going to get crappy performance but, we’d be getting it together. 83F and A: 29.96. = 1500’. It’s as if our cars were 1550 in the air. Not at sea level, where Bradenton lies. It’s called Density Altitude.

I think our first race was proof, not only that Brian can drive, but also that the acceleration performance of the CLS 63 AMG can be equaled by a CLS 550/500 with a RENNtech tune. Brian just got the car at the time of filming and he still has to get dialed in to it.

I had an CLS 63 sAMG all lined up, then, it got totaled. Thus the delay on producing the video. But yes, perhaps a 4-Matic AMG at some point.

Ummmm, I just looked for a very low mile CLS with the V8 biturbo, M278 engine. I looked for 2014 or later to avoid any "teething" problems.
Nice races, always wanted to see to see this. I would wait until late fall or winter here in FL. This summer is not nice to our turbocharged V8's.

The CLS 550 (2012-14) simply looks great and performs super. I prefer it to the 2016 model

It's the W218 chassis also known as the C218. Model years 2012 - 2018. More specifically, the 550 is a 2014. The 63 AMG is a 2012.

put a stage 2 tune on the cls 63 and it would wipe the cls550, about to buy a cls550 myself and tune up. Great cars
