I have heard that after 215k miles or so the turbos go out and you might as well at that point replace the whole motor so that’s something to think about my mechanic said it would be about 3500 for the turbos and they have to drop the motor to install them which is about 4k so 7500 to replace turbos or for around 10 to 11k you can just get a new motor installed with turbos on it.

Don't be a hero ha ha ha, so true. I think the CLS 550 is the most beautiful of modern Mercedes. Warranty Warranty Warranty. Character of the 60s, 70s, and some 80s Mercedes is unmatchable in my opinion. Great review Kevin, and don't be a hero, don't be a fool with your life is excellent advice, and funny as hell, I'm still laughing.
😅😂 yea too many people trying to be cool I don’t want anyone going bankrupt over a car. But yes this is probably one of my most favorite Benz designs aged so well
Sure, it isn't a bad deal. As long as you don't mind the $500+ oil changes and $1500+ brake jobs. It's all about the maintenance cost. I had a BMW 650i and after 80k miles it started to consume oil and started to smoke. This was due to the valve stem seal issue that is a common problem for the N62 engine and I was quoted $6000 to repair it.
Homie whoever charged you 500 for a oil change just played you pretty bad. Yes the parts and labor is a little more expensive since these are quality parts and the labor is limited so (supply and demand) basically. Your oil change should not cost you more than 150 and most times that would include the filters
I don't understand why one would take a car like this to a dealership outside of warranty instead of a reputable shop that's experienced working with Mercedes cars. My oil changes are like $140 for this max. Brakes are well under 1k..
I bought a "14 CLS550 & love it, I recently had a 528i BMW but somebody who couldn't drive had to give me a nightmare but anyways.. I needed this video
It’s a very sweet car. Think of it this way, this is a car you buy if you could afford a new C class in cash but want something way more fun and special!
I have a 2013 CLS 550 & my air struts blown out at 105K. My lifetime warranty covers engine, transmission, axle, seal & gaskets. Unfortunately had to pay 4K to replace both front struts. Warranty & reserve cash is a must! Love the car but maintenance is pricey as you should already be prepared for for a luxury benz
@@haitibwoi6122 traded it in… paid 5K for repairs then 6 months later it needs another 5K in repairs a AWD SUV is a better lifestyle car for me. Personally I think it’s a good luxury vehicle ONLY if you have another vehicle wouldn’t recommend it as a daily driver
Amazing video! What are your thoughts on the 2007- 08 CLS 350? That 4 door coupe design aesthetic is the most beautiful Mercedes Benz design that they've come up with in my personal opinion.
Great review Kevin. Regarding air suspension, just one word folks: Strutmaster. That's what I'm going to do when my air suspension on my EQUUS goes out. Look at his extensive videos on the LS 460 and how he went through the process of air to normal strut conversion.
@@MeynMotorGroup Your recommendation and Master Tech's is the only one I need. I am not anxious about the conversion path as I know it won't be super expensive. That's gold in of itself.
One word: Arnott. Maintain your factory air suspension cost effectively without converting to a crappy passive system which requires installing resistors and messing with the computer to eliminate error codes. People who convert factory air suspensions probably shouldn’t own the car to begin with. It comes with air for a reason… it was a 5 or 6 digit car originally…you have to pay to play.
Problem with Arnott is..it’s still air suspension so it’s prone to fail and it will and when you put in a warranty claim they tend to send you a half used part. My technician stopped using Arnott a long time ago. Air ride is a nuisance
Hey Kevin, Great video as always. I’m a little late haha. I love the ‘M278’ motor from Mercedes. It has a lot of power, AMG-Like, but less expensive to maintain than the full blown AMG. I purchased my M278 E 550 last July with only 37,500 miles. I have an ear to ear smile every time I drive it. It is a rocket ship. I could tune it and be almost just as fast as the M157 engine, which is the 63 counterpart that is based off of the M278. Me personally, I would stay away from the 2012/2013. There was more improvements made to the 2014+ M278. A lot of the kinks were worked out, but by no means is the 14+ perfected. I have put almost 10k miles since purchase and worry free so far! Fingers crossed.
On another note: the M278 is very fuel efficient! It was my first V8 purchase and I was skeptical with today’s gas prices! But it’s not very hard to achieve 28+ MPG and many times over 30!
Congratulations my friend on your new Benz purchase! I agree full AMG isn’t necessary the regular V8s are so quick. Thanks again for sharing and enjoy your new ride!
@@TheT1r1lmao tune it and be almost as fast as the 63. Well what if that 63 is tuned as well? In fact, the 63 makes almost two times more gains off a tune than the 550. Eurocharged claims 690hp for the 63 and weistec claims 715 hp for the 63

stick some michelin pilot 4s tires, new headlight lenses, new android infotainment, and it is a great car even for 2022... as long as thr $4 premium and 13mpg fits your budget
I've owned this car for over 10 years, best review video I've watched. You are 100% correct.... I've owned a lot of fast cars and this car is extremely underrated. IT"S FAST! I would add it runs through tires, the design of the car will eat a set a tires every year maybe 10,000 miles and tires are expensive. I would also disagree on the air suspension I had to replace mine it was over 5,000 dollars but well worth it. Thanks!
22/24k you can get one well under 45k miles easily. This is way overpriced, yea get the warranty and whatever breaks they’ll find any excuse on how it’s excluded from the warranty lol
So there's not too many clean CLS models in the U.S. with under 30k miles so I may go for a 2017-2018 CLS 550 with a bumper to bumper pro rated warranty for around $40-$45k
well definitely looking at the comments my question is…can i finally buy a 2014 CLS550 4matic with 63k miles,??????,will it be a strong enough car to buy a 2014,?????
Love the csl ( we call it banana of its design and rear lights back home) but I picked up the diesel 3.0 version due to economy, not as powerful as 550 but still pulls like a train and looks good. Great video
To me it looks like a gangster car, I imagine a Tony Soprano or a Darker Don Draper driving it . This is mostly on the older Gen 06-09 all black CLS63, If I could find one that hasn't gone bad ; I'd upgrade the head bolts to ARP studs and a better head gasket if available
Oooh this one has night vision… nice spec. Air suspension should not be feared. Arnott makes maintaining it cheap. Passive conversions are for people who probably shouldn’t own the car to begin with. Passive suspension would absolutely ruin this car.
@@ic1815 our gl550’s has arnott bags, and once every two years, one of them broke. 3 total. But arnotts come with great warranty. Like em and would buy again, but they aren’t indestructible. In the end of the day, airbags break easier

Probably lol I don’t think they have to waste time with it since most people buying something in this price range know it won’t be perfect. If they wanted a cleaner car they can just step up in price
Lots of parts seem to come out of my E350 coupe...switches, steering wheel, infotainment... Even the rear design (don't know how to say it but its hips)
Definitely showing it's age, & that one doesn't look like it was cared for very well, I'd take a pass...But what I would opt for instead (wish you could get your hands on one) is a Lincoln Continental Black Label...There's one in Houston TX for $40K with 56K miles...I think the Stinkin' Lincoln holds it's own in the Lux car market although it is just a 6 banger but puts out a respectable 400HP...CHEERS!
To be honest I've heard some warranties are not worth the paper they are written on. Not necessarily the case with this car, and not sure if it applies so much in USA, but something to keep in mind...
You’re absolutely right there’s a lot I would stay away from. I’ve had a great experience with Hendrick AutoGuard Warranty they covered everything on my modified Acura TSX. Of course going to a Mercedes dealer and getting their warranty if possible is the best but certain cars may not qualify and if it does might cost more but that’s always the best bet. Cary Imports works with a company called Penn I believe to warranty high mileage cars like this. Any certified mechanic can apparently work on the car
Just bought a 14 for 19k with 90k miles and warranty . 100 deductible at MB dealership . I’ve wanted this car since I was a teenager and most likely will let it be my baby 😂😂😂 I already have a beater

I've been looking at 95k 100k miles going for 21k-22,899$ My question is? You think by taking care of the car and do maintenance every 3 months or when needed do you think it can last to 200k miles and are these cars known to last a long time? Thanks
Do you think this car is worthy of collection? I found one with the same model same year with only 50,000 miles on it priced around $22,000. I don't actually need another car for daily driver now, but I am kind of stunned by the beauty of this car when I looked at it. I am thinking about getting it and just let it sit in my garage (may drive it once a week) until some rich V8 Mercedes-Benz fan is willing to offer any price I ask for as collection. Do you think it's a good idea?
how much does the warrenty cost and how many miles are covered? im assuing its on a per dealership case but i dont really see any warranties on cargurus
Of course it’s a beautiful car, and no offense but that one does not look like it was taken care of very well, yes it looks like freeway miles, but wow the hood and the front bumper look like they have been sandblasted. I’m surprised that Detailer did not even polish the headlights they can make them look better in under 10 minutes…
@@MeynMotorGroup Yeah you can definitely do some chip repair and make it look a lot better. This is a perfect example of why a car in this price range and most cars in general should definitely get PPF film installed👌💯 Great Review

This the wheels I'm looking for I want the CLS 63 AMG but my uncs said the CLS 550 IS mad by itself which is true it's still a Biturbo V8 you can tune it and get safely 480- maybe 515 BHP if you want more bower just upgrade parts and keep maintenance at the 500-600 mark you'll be fine on that note I'm not sure I could look this up but I'd rather talk to like minded folk, CLS 550 has a 4matic variant and is the 4matic variant still a Biturbo V8 again I know this information is online but I rather talk with my fellow Mercedes Benz lovers And which would you think is the best bang for the dollas and on the account of me liking when my uncle takes off on other cars 👀👀 in his Biturbo V6 4matic
I don’t think there’s a point to buy warranty, the warranty companies make money 90% of the time, you’d be better off just paying the repair costs if something went wrong
there no need to go to the dealership and pay 1000 for a b service witch is not covered by warranty or the brakes witch is another 1000 dollars just for parts that is the s line for Benz service is still expensive warranty dose no cover regular service
Kelvin u think this as a GID engine will be best on the long term..cos i dont do GID.. Only port injection or both port&direct jst like toyota/lexus does

It cost about 700 to swap fluid and add the additive. Other than that nothing has happened. Just took it on a 2k mile road trip and it did great.
I'm looking to purchase one at the 60-80k mark. How's maintenance? This man sold me on this. For me, it's either a C300 or this one.
No comparison with a c300 man v8 all the way
I drove my previous CLS 350 amg model 2012 for 420000 km over 8 years. It was reliable and impressive. Sold it few months ago and upgraded to GLE 53 ..
The issue was a camshaft which was showing trouble-shooting and check engine was always on. Otherwise it is solid and fancy classy-looking car.
Yup maintenance costs more and warranties don’t cover maintenance. Independent shops help
I’m looking at one now! How many miles did yours have? How’s it holding up?
Always loved the way these looked.
Hey my friend hope you’re well
this video was very informative, I love it came out in 2022. hopefully you make more old German car review videos
It’s a very sweet car. Think of it this way, this is a car you buy if you could afford a new C class in cash but want something way more fun and special!
So true my friend this is way more fun
A man needs to be this rich to be able to handle this car? It makes too many problems that need a lot of money to repair?
I have a 2013 CLS 550 & my air struts blown out at 105K. My lifetime warranty covers engine, transmission, axle, seal & gaskets. Unfortunately had to pay 4K to replace both front struts. Warranty & reserve cash is a must! Love the car but maintenance is pricey as you should already be prepared for for a luxury benz
Any other issues u had with the car?
@@haitibwoi6122 traded it in… paid 5K for repairs then 6 months later it needs another 5K in repairs
a AWD SUV is a better lifestyle car for me. Personally I think it’s a good luxury vehicle ONLY if you have another vehicle wouldn’t recommend it as a daily driver
So your warranty company won’t cover the air suspension!?! I’m looking at 2012 cls 550 with 64,000 miles should I be concerned??
@@jerodlewis1356 I’d be surprised if a warranty covers suspension they are mostly power train only & warranties look for any reason to not pay
@@jerodlewis1356 also if this will be a daily driver I just don’t recommend it
Amazing video! What are your thoughts on the 2007- 08 CLS 350? That 4 door coupe design aesthetic is the most beautiful Mercedes Benz design that they've come up with in my personal opinion.
This guyyy! I was just thinking about one of these with 125k miles and this showed up
Your phone is reading your mind.
No wonder I'm starting to see a lot of these. I didn't realize they were affordable. This and some 7 series which I would NEVER buy used.
Yea very true also this one is very affordable due to high mileage and cosmetic issues but definitely between 30-40k you can get a clean one
Great review Kevin. Regarding air suspension, just one word folks: Strutmaster. That's what I'm going to do when my air suspension on my EQUUS goes out. Look at his extensive videos on the LS 460 and how he went through the process of air to normal strut conversion.
Yea my friend spoke to my master tech he really recommends strut master easily the best choice and very affordable
@@MeynMotorGroup Your recommendation and Master Tech's is the only one I need. I am not anxious about the conversion path as I know it won't be super expensive. That's gold in of itself.
Humbled my friend thanks and yea shouldn’t be too terrible
Hey Kevin,
Great video as always.
Save your money for those failing oil check valves!
@@adrianbradshaw4956 mines a 14. Updated check valves installed.
@@TheT1r1lmao tune it and be almost as fast as the 63. Well what if that 63 is tuned as well? In fact, the 63 makes almost two times more gains off a tune than the 550. Eurocharged claims 690hp for the 63 and weistec claims 715 hp for the 63
BMW or Benz over 100k? Warranty? That's a no brainer especially with these cars for sure!! 💯
Agreed my friend
Man this CLS has been beat up! I've been in a few of these from 2013-2014 and they all looked to be in excellent condition compared to this one!
definitely
LOVE the car. The only thing that bugs me are the yellow hazy headlights. They could have polished them up for a better sale. Sexy car regardless! Great video!
Love the style of this car, and am actually looking for one as a second daily for my wife. I’ve checked on warranty for this car. Platinum coverage is $8k for 48 mos/60k miles. Please show me were you’re getting “a couple grand” for warranty coverage that covers major items on this German coupe(sedan).
Cary imports but obviously prices for everything has gone up
I got a 2012 cls 550 ive done alot of work to it its not a hard car to work on
Looking to buy a 2014 cls550 40,000 miles or less in December can't wait! I purchased my first car in january 2021 it's a 99' camry 120,000 miles, so 1 year later and buying a cls550 would be a huge upgrade!!! just trying to figure out the extra costs like you're talking about servicing costs etc.
Looks better than an E-class? That's debatable. I'm gonna get the CLS but I definitely think my E-class looks better...
stick some michelin pilot 4s tires, new headlight lenses, new android infotainment, and it is a great car even for 2022... as long as thr $4 premium and 13mpg fits your budget
Agreed my friend
i get 28mpg on the interstate if I'm being good. usually I get over 21 mpg no matter what
I've owned this car for over 10 years, best review video I've watched. Thanks!
What brand did you buy? And did you get air suspension or just traditional spring suspension? I need to buy some.
How many miles does yours have. I’m thinking of buying one with 150 000km

Overall do y’all think this is a smart buy ? Is this car reliable ? I found a 2014 model with 82,xxx miles for $19k.
22/24k you can get one well under 45k miles easily. This is way overpriced, yea get the warranty and whatever breaks they’ll find any excuse on how it’s excluded from the warranty lol
Yeah, I think once the cosmetics and suspension are taken care of its a gem. I saw one in Cary that sounded good.
I agree my friend nice little car feels way quicker than what the numbers would suggest I feel nothing in most cars but this was truly exciting
Brother...which one would you choose this one or CLS63??
Try to decide myself
Appreciate your input 👍
Much blessings 🙌
So there's not too many clean CLS models in the U.S. with under 30k miles so I may go for a 2017-2018 CLS 550 with a bumper to bumper pro rated warranty for around $40-$45k
@MeynMotorGroup ty so much bro....really appreciated.

cylinder wall scratch is the main worrying , otherwise it is the best
well definitely looking at the comments my question is…can i finally buy a 2014 CLS550 4matic with 63k miles,??????,will it be a strong enough car to buy a 2014,?????
*That M276 is a ticking time bomb*
The m276 engine is a 3 liter v6. I'm sure you meant m278.
Love the csl ( we call it banana of its design and rear lights back home) but I picked up the diesel 3.0 version due to economy, not as powerful as 550 but still pulls like a train and looks good. Great video
aint no 3 liter car 'pulling like a train' 😂
To me it looks like a gangster car, I imagine a Tony Soprano or a Darker Don Draper driving it . This is mostly on the older Gen 06-09 all black CLS63, If I could find one that hasn't gone bad ; I'd upgrade the head bolts to ARP studs and a better head gasket if available
@@incognitoalister well 261hp pulls nice and mpg is excellent on it ;)
@@martynassukamera haha
Oooh this one has night vision… nice spec.
Air suspension should not be feared. Arnott makes maintaining it cheap. Passive conversions are for people who probably shouldn’t own the car to begin with. Passive suspension would absolutely ruin this car.
Yea but Arnott has issues I would only go for air ride on a new car that I’m leasing
@@MeynMotorGroup I have had 0 issues with my Arnott, along with everybody else. You are the first person to complain about Arnott.
@@ic1815 our gl550’s has arnott bags, and once every two years, one of them broke. 3 total. But arnotts come with great warranty. Like em and would buy again, but they aren’t indestructible. In the end of the day, airbags break easier
Beautiful 😍 car. Wonder what the blue book for it now ? I want a 2010 , that body style is the most beautiful 4 door car ever made.
I have a 200k mile cls63 amg in Nigeria ppl wondering why they don’t see 100k plus miles cars in there own. Country because most of this cars are sold to Africa
Are they going to sell this vehicle with those cloudy headlights?
Probably lol I don’t think they have to waste time with it since most people buying something in this price range know it won’t be perfect. If they wanted a cleaner car they can just step up in price
Lots of parts seem to come out of my E350 coupe...switches, steering wheel, infotainment... Even the rear design (don't know how to say it but its hips)
Yup based on an E class
what year did the cls500 start using turbo? i thought they were naturally aspirated
2012
Definitely showing it's age, & that one doesn't look like it was cared for very well, I'd take a pass...But what I would opt for instead (wish you could get your hands on one) is a Lincoln Continental Black Label...There's one in Houston TX for $40K with 56K miles...I think the Stinkin' Lincoln holds it's own in the Lux car market although it is just a 6 banger but puts out a respectable 400HP...CHEERS!
Agreed this is a rough one which is why it’s so cheap ($60k off MSRP) but yea always wanted to try a Lincoln Continental any model really
Yes yes, I have a 2019 Lincoln Continental and wouldn’t trade it for the world.
Need that 09 thru 12 rl review those are really rare
Just bought a 14 for 19k with 90k miles and warranty . 100 deductible at MB dealership . I’ve wanted this car since I was a teenager and most likely will let it be my baby 😂😂😂 I already have a beater

2012 mercedes cls550. I've been looking at 95k 100k miles going for 21k-22,899$
My question is?
You think by taking care of the car and do maintenance every 3 months or when needed do you think it can last to 200k miles and are these cars known to last a long time? Thanks
Lol no
Nice car. Would prefer a 2014 Lexus IS over this Benz. The IS has fewer features but it will last a long longer.
Beatiful cars. Not fast but not slow either.
No not a good idea
😂😅
I like the car, thanks Kevin.

how much does the warrenty cost and how many miles are covered? im assuing its on a per dealership case but i dont really see any warranties on cargurus
I found a 2014 with 62k miles for 25k$. What type of issues these car have?
Of course it’s a beautiful car, and no offense but that one does not look like it was taken care of very well, yes it looks like freeway miles, but wow the hood and the front bumper look like they have been sandblasted. I’m surprised that Detailer did not even polish the headlights they can make them look better in under 10 minutes…
Yea this is not a clean one hence the price but between 30-40k you can get much cleaner ones and lower miles
@@MeynMotorGroup Yeah you can definitely do some chip repair and make it look a lot better. This is a perfect example of why a car in this price range and most cars in general should definitely get PPF film installed👌💯 Great Review
Rule #1 Don't be a payment buyer.
That definitely helps but won’t apply to 70% of America since 70% of the population does not have $1,000 saved up. All pay check to pay check. Its a vicious cycle
Lol i work in all my cars even my 2022 Huracan if u know waht ur doing ur good better then a dealer that most of the time they take ur money and put a lil patch and not fix it lol.
Would you get a CLS 550 or an Audi S7, which do you think is more comfortable, faster etc?
CLS feels faster but the Audi is a significantly higher quality vehicle to sit in and their interiors age better because it’s better put together get a warranty with either
