I like your point about the used AMG's. I know I'm late and broke but, I'm currently torn between getting a 2014 CLS 550 with 42,000 for $23,000 vs a 2016 CLS 63 AMG with 97,000 for $28,000. The 3.6 0-60 and "race start" is almost worth the risk.... HELP

I got my 2012 CLS back in 2019 for 17k it had 117k miles on it. Since I’ve owned it I’ve put 53k miles on it. Nothing major has happened except when I got the car either the previous owner of the used car dealership that I bought it from put the wrong coolant in it and it corroded all the plastic lines and had to be swapped for metal. That was extremely expensive and cost me about 5k at the Mercedes dealer. Other then that it’s had very minor issues throughout the ownership some of which being a CV axial, front control arm bushings, water pump and radiator, air compressor, a sensor went out that was very cheap but it knocked power steering and traction controls. Unfortunately mine is a 2012 and it just started to make a ticking sound around the serpentine area so it must need a tensioner service. My example didn’t have good service history and it was a northern car that has some corrosion and over all it’s held up like tank for the most part me and my wife have enjoyed it for about 6 years and don’t plan on getting rid of it! I was told by my Mercedes technician that around 220-250k miles the turbos will go and when they do he said it might be a good time to just replace the whole motor because when they replace the turbos they have to remove the engine and it is only a couple thousand more to get a rebuilt motor installed. I also forgot to mention around 165k miles I started to get a skip in the trans and it ended up needing an additive to the trans fluid that fixed the problem instantly and cost me about 450 bucks to have to added to my fluid. A full trans fluid flush plus additive cost around 800 bucks. As far as interior or tech goes everything works on the interior except the passenger cooled seats and I’m sure it’s just a bad fan but I haven’t serviced that. And the rear screen works but when you go to shut it the driver side doesn’t roll back it just folds up so it must be pinched on something. I have had 4 mercedes at the age of 25 and this CLS has not only oldest but the most reliable other then our new GLC300 but we haven’t had it long enough for it to have problems it’s only 1000 miles out of warranty. But my 2014 edition 1 S550 had so many issues you wouldn’t believe it and that had the same motor and trans but for some reason it was a lemon and it seemed like everything broke. I would find my self driving my dog to go play in my cls and laughing to myself about how everything that didn’t work in the S class worked in my old CLS that I know has had neglect and I haven’t even really been the best owner to it tbh and it just keeps going. It’s never not started even after a couple months of sitting in the cold it starts right up and that’s the original Mercedes battery it came with when I bought it in 2019. It’s 15 degrees rn in Virginia and it hasn’t ran in a couple weeks and I can guarantee you it would start right up and defrost the ice and warm up in 5 min. Absolutely love this car and I will keep it for the rest of my life. Me and my wife are actually planning on completely restoring it all the way down to the frame when it needs it so that we can keep it into our older ages. The CLS 550 2012-2014 is a timeless car

For folks who came here to replace the extendable handle of their Platinum Elite 25 inch spinner, purchased in 2023 - this video here is mostly entirely correct for our luggage as well but note these adjustements: - There are 7 screws at the top (NOT 5 like for the 22 inch carry-on here). Look around at the outer horizontal edge of the big plastic piece for the extra 2 (one on each side) In my own luggage, these were not covered by the little foam pads, because they are recessed but you can see them. - The system that holds the two bars of the handle down the bottom of the luggage is different than the one pictured in this video (or it may just be that my luggage is younger - purchased in 2023) - now, when you unzip the lining, you’ll see that the two bars are socked-in the lining, with foam slipped in the lining on each side (it will make more sense when you open your lining). Don’t do anything to this: Just do as the video says, unscrewing every piece, then when you pull out the bar from the top, the handle will come out of the sock lining - there’s nothing keeping the handles in the lining, so once the screws are removed, the handle can come out. - When you get the replacement handle in, you’ll have to make sure to slip the two bars in each sock channel of the lining, and you may have to slip the foam (do that first) in each sock if you find that the foam slipped out when you yanked out the old handle. It’s very easy to do because the foam has some structure but definitely place the foam in first into the two channels, then get the two bars through the sock lining. I have a 2018 cls550 and I’m considering the Renntech tune 540HP/705Torque. Be honest with me man, have you had any issues with the car after your tune that were caused by the tune?

I was hoping you’d reveal the 2021 BMW M550i lol. I have a friend that owns one, and man that thing is fast and luxurious. So far after years of ownership the N63 is holding strong without issue. I guess the 4th time was the charm as the TU3 V8 was greatly improved when it comes to reliability.

Got the m278 ml550 2012, so far runs like a top, 140,000 Miles! Still running strong, im so scared though as these miles go up, just gave it new rotors and a tranny flush, so far running like it’s brand new!

Owned 2012 Cls 63 amg for last 6 year. Second woner and car only got 65k Only big thing replace was headlamp 6k on the dealer. Really expensive stuff.

Good video. That's funny about the glare from the dash panel. Have you thought of wrapping them in a carbon fiber or something? I usually do that on the wood trim.

Does the main battery need to be unplug?

I have a ‘09 SL550 I have the replacement switch but another video I saw called for a dismantled door panel. That seems extremely difficult. Is the switch for the R230 SL550 replacement requiring such a big deal, or is it as simple as you show on your CLS…??? Thanks in advance. Steve
