So wonderful to see someone finally did a detail dyno analysis of the M278 ECU HHT tune, drag racing w/ AMG and post-tuning driving experience and pull data. THX!!!
Insightful video! I especially appreciate the added technical explanation with the dyno graph and data logs. Running into the man himself, great way to end!
I have one main concern about this tune, I 100% agree is one of the best if not the best, BUT.. how is the stock transmission handling that extra stress? Is it ok on the long run? Do you need to reinforce it? Please let us know.
@@clevelandaeromotive knowing many people who drive a 278 and have not issues. But after scoping the cylinders there a lot of scorings. A few with 80-130tkm on it with normal driving and the good 102 aral ultimate from germany… others drive 300tkm and have no scorings…

My E500 “surfs” beautifully on the torque at lows revs and is very linear and easy to drive. Does the tune do the same and not exchange power for drive ability ?

How much throttle can a stock 550 handle? Ive been going easy and never fully floored mine yet its over 100k so what would you say. Its been well maintained. Im 3rd owner
With the RENNtech ECU tune, at the Bradenton Raceway, I floored it off the line all four times. Although admittedly, I always roll on the power from a stand still in day-to-day traffic. So, in all reality, I really don't know. I think the stock ECU on a CLS 550 really cant harm the car's power train.
Considering the block walls are thick enough to be bored out to 5.5 litres for the AMG’s M157… a LOT more than any Mercedes Benz factory application places on the M278. It’s well known as an “over-built” engine. Anyone else?
Whats up brother. Nice car. I have a 2013 s550 thinking of getting the tune. I was just wondering if u think it will cause the car to have problems . Will the differential ands trans hold up ?
A car with a tune will hold up as well as you treat it. Can you go out and blow your engine with a RENNtech ECU tune?? Just as easily as you can with a stock tune. If your out there treating your car like poop, constantly racing it, neglecting it, expect engine trouble. If you maintain and care for your car well, a RENNtech ECU tune will take no more miles off your car than a stock tune.

500/560 sec was my dream car when i was younger…….i would gladly give my CLS for one!!!
hartmutt is my hero!! a tuner amoung customizers!! legend utter legend.
I honestly was a little “star-struck” myself.
I always heard of the legendary Harmut but that was the first time seeing him. That was cool.

❤loved it I think renntech will be my go to choice for tune on my cls 550 only thing I wish my car had was the black interior
Awesome job. I used to have the Renntech tune on my CLS 550, it was fun to drive 😊.
What did you replace it with?
Custom Eurocharged tune but I have other upgrades including turbos, downpipes, cold air intake, etc.
All cylinder walls ok? Many people have scorings on m278…
I've had no reason to have my cylinders scoped (eg: pining, loss of compression) so I haven't had that procedure done. @@fb8207

How many miles is on it now and how well has it held up?
Bonus question.
Any air ride issues yet??
