I absolutely love this song and EWF, but have never watched this video. I was born in the 70s and, to be fair, from a 2021 perspective, everything about the visuals is surprising and delightful or humorous. Yes, they are costumes. But also, yes, they "are not wearing that on a daily basis," which--c'mon--that's just a very funny idea on its own. I enjoy being able to re-experience so much great music with these young men, and am grateful they let us share in their genuine joy.

Imagine 2006, Sept. After Katrina. We had to go thru the National Guard lines to get water and MRE's. We had this song cranked UP. All of a sudden, the guardsmen on both sides the car, started gettin' on down. Lol. We felt like we were moving on down the soul train line. Lol. Great memory!!

This is one of the few songs on Earth that ALL races love. Over the years I've seen Asians, Arabs, Latin, Black and White people lose their minds when this song started in all kinds of club parties, weddings and street block parties I attended. This song is legit. Newborns all the way to senior citizens love this song. I've seen the reactions with my own eyes. thats not true, audio mixing was absolutely a thing long before this track came out, this isnt recorded live, its just a music video the track would have been recorded and mixed in a studio in large audio editing machines the vocals and instruments would be processed, notice the bongos faintly in the right ear, it didnt just magically appear like that it was engineered by an audio engineer, listen to dark side of the moon as an easy example of amazing audio engineering and that album is from 1974.

I just took my 18 year old niece to see EWF a couple of years ago. Yes and their costumes are pretty outrageous, but they're show men, and they put on one hell of a show ALWAYS! They often have some kind of space-themed, futuristic costumes.

Tragically, Philip Bailey has lost his incredible edge. Given that he's 70 years old, it had to happen. I doubt they'll be touring much longer

Maurice White is a legend! He was/is a musical genius! Sadly he died of Parkinson’s disease in 2016. 🙁🙁🙁 He was so creative and wonderful and paved the way for other artists such as The Commodores, such as Lionel Ritchie, another musical genius. “Brick House” by the Commodores is legendary.
And the co author, daughter of Detroit Allee Willis, died last year.
Maurice had a great voice,To,very soulful,him and Phillip were a great combination

@imcreamrose2 Funny you should mention skating rinks. I live in Garland, but we drove into Fayetteville North Carolina today and I actually saw a roller skating rink. It was closed of course, courtesy of covid-19, But it brought back a lot of memories seeing it.

You had questions s about the clothes. Back in the day artists generally did not wear street clothes on stage. They wore stage clothes or "costumes."
Depends. The California bands (Eagles, Jackson Browne, etc.) tended to wear jeans and comfortable shirts on stage. But the bands that depended on spectacle obviously couldn't do that.

September was co-written by Allee Willis who also wrote the theme song to Friends. She said the Friends song was the whitest thing she ever wrote and did it to get out of her contract. She recently passed away and had an incredible career and life.

I had to really think about why you all never heard of EWF and other classics then it dawned on me. We heard our parent’s music when they blasted it in the house during family celebrations or on Saturday mornings when we were cleaning. Now with everyone wearing earbuds and earphones, the younger ones don’t know what the older ones are listening to so this music is all new to them. Even as we ride in the car, everyone is listening to their own genre of music. Remember when we couldn’t touch the dial in the car without begging first? Lol I’m sure your parents have some of this music in their playlists. EWF was my favorite band back in the day; saw them perform several times. Their live shows were awesome and they also included magical illusions.

The lack of 'preparation' is precisely what makes these videos fresh, fun, and appealing time after time. The twins' reactions are authentic, because they react to the songs through a pure lens, not through a lens of cultural context.
YT is crammed with planned, scripted, polished, phony, cookie cutter tripe. These young men are a breath of fresh air, and they do NOT come across as uneducated. They come across as real.

Saw EWF at the Legends East concert at Citifield a few years ago. They had 40,000 people going insane. The building shook. They were called back three times.
1978 was clearly a questionable fashion era but at the time it was fun. The music of Earth, Wind, and Fire was and still is hands down fabulous.

You have to know that Maurice White wanted to bring every race, every, religion, every persuasion together with his and Earth, Wind and Fires music. He was a pioneer, no one can compare to. Phillip Bailey , Verdeen and others carried on that tradition. I wish he were here during these times that only seem to stop the progression of acceptance and togetherness amongst the people. Thanks to you twins that have an open heart and open mind- music is the great equalizer. I will support you through likes, and have bought your merchandise. I grew up listening to all of the 1970's R & B groups. We still had vinyl and I wore those records OUT!
Y’all, the 70’s was kind of a weird time period for fashion. They still had great music though, right?! This was definitely playing at the cookouts.
My favorite story about this song, a good friend many years older than I, started college at FSU in the Fall that this song came out. He said it was playing everywhere on campus. He said every time he hears it it brings him back to that first year of college. Happy memories that last a lifetime.

This song was played on speakers after my daughter’s hs graduation this year while they were still on the football field. The entire class was dancing on the field and the parents were dancing in the stands. It was great!

Early 70's , when brothers use to compose their own sound, funk.
They were one of the most popular bands of the 1970's and 80's, and outrageous outfits were part of that era. Look at Parliment and David Bowie. You may laugh, but they were combing the glitter glam rock with bold African print fabrics and long Dashiki style tops. Pretty badass and creative.
LaBelle did the same thing
'70's was the Rennaisance of Black music; love songs, political songs, songs influenced by African, Caribbean, Latino sounds, funk, jazz, voices, harmonies, out there costumes, freedom to express even when the times were hard, poetry and music.....it was a time of experimentation and pure genius. "Easy Lover" was a fav of mine. It was on Phillip Bailey's solo album "Chinese Wall". Phil Collins produced much of if not all that album and you can hear it in the drums and so forth. Phil Collins does some background vocals on a few of the tracks. The "Easy Lover" video was a lot of fun to watch, those two were just having fun. If you ever saw Genesis video "Turn it on Again", it's a similar kind of video, just following musicians getting ready for performance. Great stuff that it's a shame people forgot about.....

Im hispanic and consider EWF Soul/R&B royalty. They paved the way for many other great bands. A little respect for Maurice is in order. EWF sound & music got millions of us thru hard and tough times. They represented their heritage with pride, dignity & respect. We owe that and much more to these wonderful group of musicians. EWF was in a league of their own.

The Lead Singer Maurice passed. It was his group. He wrote for many. Very talented. R I L Mr. White..
The band is still around though with Maurice's brother and the bassist Verdine and the falsetto guy Philip Bailey as the current lead singer.

True 70s royalty. Played loud in all the discos and EVERYONE got up and danced to them. Concerts sold out in minutes. Still listen to them.
I’m black but grew up in a Caribbean household so we really listened to Soca and not a lot of classics. It’s so lovely hearing this song and finally understanding and really feeling the lyrics.

This song never gets old, E W &F never gets old. Phillip Bailey’s voice on Reasons is incredible! You have to listen to Boogie Wonderland by them, you can’t help but dance! One of the best concerts I’ve ever been to!

I had a chance to attend a Earth, Wind & Fire Concert approx. 5 or 6 years ago. It was one of the best concerts ever!! These songs are timeless and have meaning and purpose behind them, so be respectful to their art and craft.

This proves that video really did kill the radio star. Just because of these obviously dated 70's clothing, EWF would have never been given the chance today even they could DESTROY any of the BS that passes as music today.
I was a young, pregnant hippy and got caught on top of a fence I was trying to climb over to see Earth Wind and Fire by the cops. One of them helped me down and said anybody that wanted to see a group that bad could go on in

Earth, Wind and Fire was an extremely popular band in the 70s and 80s. The band showcased 9 members (not including their fabulous horn section called the Phenix Horns). Their founder, Maurice White, studied astrology, African sounds, jazz, pop and soul to create the band’s sound. He also introduced a small wooden African instrument called the Kalimba to the band and it became a part of their unique sound. Their history is amazing and the clothes they wore on stage, reflected the spirit and essence of the music they created. It may seem a little strange to you today but in the 70s everything about Earth, Wind and Fire was, as you would say “cold.” I’m glad you enjoyed it. Take a listen to their earlier work (from 1973-1978) it’s even better (to me).

I love Phenix Horns and they were definitely part of the EW&F magic, but we also have to give love to Seawind Horns, who also did a lot of recording with EW&F (the I Am album for one)
