Retired physician here. Your doctor was 100% wrong when he/she told you that you can't gain muscle at your age. Anybody can gain muscle at any age with proper resistance training, diet, rest and supplementation. Also, I would look for natural ways to suppress the appetite instead of using prescription drugs, which I don't recommend at all. There are a number of articles using the search term "natural appetite suppressants" that one can find online.

5 foot 9 male, 30 years, I was about 250 lbs, currently 177 lbs , lost about 83 lbs in about 6 months.
I have been trying to lose weight since 2016 and I now find what “works for me” and I am happy with it.
Thank you for the video. What you're saying is extremely true. You lose most of your weight through how much you eat compared to how much you use energy daily . I tried counting my calories making sure I eat the amount of food I need to lose weight. I tried Keto, I tried intermittent fasting. They all worked but I could not sustain it, and I could not keep the weight off.
What worked for me, keywords ‘worked for me’ is doing a physical activity I enjoyed the most without worrying about what I ate. I started playing Tennis about 3-4 times a week. Each session lasted for about 2-3 hours. I would play an actual ‘competitive’ match with 2-3 sets, (25-30 games).
I also started running 5K in the morning the days I didn't play tennis when I was in the mood to do so. I took 90 minutes when I start because I was walking 80% of the time. After 3 months I could finish in 38 minutes, my fastest lap so far. Week 1 run for 30 seconds and walk for 4 minutes. Week 12 run for 5 minutes walk for 2 minutes. (next goal is to run for for 15 minutes)
When it comes to food, I ate once a day. I found out its called OMAD (One Meal A Day) . I ate anything in that meal but I made sure I was eating enough, not too much or too little. After 2 weeks of starting the tennis I started finding it hard to eat a lot, so I started counting calories to make sure I eat at least 1800 calories. Most of my meals were home cooked meals like rice, beans, chicken beef stew, veggies and I would eat fast food like 2-3 times a week, chipotle, mcdonalds, Pizza.
Another thing I changed was making sure that what I drank did not have calories, Like water, coke zero fresca, black coffee, rooibos tea. For tea I would use Splenda. For me, drinking regular coca cola and coke zero is the same. So this works for me to just change to zero sugar drinks.
At some point through playing tennis too much and running I started having knee pain and other joint pains because Tennis and running is really hard on the joints. Did some research and I started going to the gym, 2-3 times a week, reduced running to twice a week instead of 4 times and playing tennis twice a week, only on the weekend. The weight training made my shoulders and knees feel strong on the tennis court, I didnt have pains after running or tennis sessions
Your energy metabolism is your BMR, the amount of calories your body burns just to stay alive everyday. Breathing, Heartbeat, using your eyes, ears, smell….basic body functionality. My BMR is about 1800 calories, You can increase or add on to this number manually by doing something everyday like walking for 30 minutes - an hour in the morning or at night listening to audio books. That's about 300 calories = 2100 calories total burned per day just by living and walking. Add other activities like 2 hours tennis, gym, running and thats another 800 calories on top daily average. = 2900 total. I ate between 1800 - 2500 calories daily and. Sometimes, maybe once or twice a week I would order a large 14 inch Pizza, Eat 3 slices in the afternoon and eat the rest at night watching my shows after my workouts. Some days I couldn't finish the whole thing, especially now im below 180 lbs I get full quicker than before.
Buy a kitchen scale and body scale, Eat the same way you eat every day, and find out how much you eat without dieting. record weight and how you feel about yourself everyday for 30 days, find out if you are gaining or losing. Increase or reduce calories accordingly. That is a good place to start.
Wierd things that works for me:
-Its easy for me to skip breakfast, it takes about 4-6 hours after waking up to feel hungry.
-Exercise or doing something physical curbs my appetite.
-Sitting on the computer all day or watching tv makes me veeeeery hungry.
-If I do a morning run, then sit on my computer, it takes about 6-8 hours to start feeling hungry
-If I eat what I don't like I will crave what I like and end up eating too much of what I like eventually.
-I eat my feelings, exercise releases stress and I just don't feel like eating as much.
-when my day job became my passion, I didn't think of food as much, had to set reminders to eat so that I don't faint or die.
    Key Takeaways:
-weight loss is more sustainable when feel satisfied throughout the day
    -Download myfitnesspal on your phone.
    -log everything you eat.
-Experiment on your body, and take notes like a scientist.
-Try everything(Keto, Running, OMAD, Low Carb…) you think will work for at least 4 weeks.
-try out low calorie substitutes of food you love.
-Take notes, reflect, make changes, repeat.
-Stick to it once you find what works or what works and you are happy with it.

Did you do strict clean keto though? Products that say keto on them dont always help you, and if you have way too much fat like dairy, that’s a lot of calories to consume. You won’t lose weight with keto if you’d fill eat more calories than you burn

Omg - I just suggested to my Auntie about pairing her snacks with her meals. As a person who has suffered from insulin resistance I’ve been on a rabbit hole of information from various sources for the past 30-45 days - I finally put my theory to the test starting 7/11/24 at 299 lbs now 7/28 at 286 lbs. I pay attention to my macros, walk for 30 mins to an hour 3x per week and IF. I feel great and so ready to keep pushing towards my goal of HEAL(THY) . Healing thy self !!! 🎉

I agree with you 80-90 percent of fitness is what you put in your mouth and how much of it. With that said, I completely recommend some form of strength training training(weight lifting or resistance bands) along with cardio. There is such a thing as “skinny fat”. When someone loses a significant amount of wait but they don’t look healthy and they don’t have any muscle tone. Strength training is beneficial in so many ways. Strengthening not only your muscles but your bones as well. Adding more lean muscle to your body helps slow down the aging process. Weight lifting boost metabolism, lowers the risk of cardiovascular disease, balances blood sugar levels, boost mood, strengthens bones, lowers blood pressure, improves sleep, burns fat, improves posture, etc. the list goes on. At 45 I went back to the gym and at 52 I have more muscle than I ever did in my twenties.

Thanks so much for watching! You are absolutely correct. I discuss many of these exact points in another video I have called “ lose weight and keep it off for good”. Strength training is the fountain of youth!! I typically recommend starting a fitness journey with low intensity steady state cardio so that cortisol levels don’t shoot up. Also most people who are overweight likely need to improve their cardiovascular health. However progressing to incorporate weight training, even a few days a week, is a must!

  • @KFontLab

The Doctor was absolutely WRONG about gaining muscle at 40 or after. There are people who don’t even start their physical health journey until their 40s.
This is the best common sense, straight forward video I have seen in awhile.
I would also just recommend to anyone who wants to lose weight but also get toned to
1.) put focus on the kitchen
2.) add some level of consistent cardio that’s fun to you. (Dance, swim, wearing a Fitbit and walking at work)
3.) Strength train twice a week only to start. That can be increased over time.

  • @MadAudi
    @MadAudi 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

The physical activity (weights) is so that you make your body stronger. You’ll feel better.
Eating less calories than what you burn will add to weight loss.
Seek medical advice before intermittent fasting and one meal a day. For some… this could mess you up. For many it’s fine. Best to be sure.
Balance in meals is important. This lady is correct. Blood sugar spikes can be managed by the foods you combine when you eat. There are cgm blood glucose monitors out there that help you keep track of what spikes your blood glucose. If you can get a cgm… do it.
The journey can be intimidating… but can be done.
Edit: Nov 2023 - Today: 44 lbs lost. I’m 57 years old. Was skinny most of my life. Gained weight during Covid… so glad to have it off of me!
Good luck everyone and may God Bless us All!

I eat mostly meat, eggs, some fish, and butter, with very few carbs. It's basically a carnivore diet. With this way of eating, I'm usually not hungry. I have absolutely no desire to snack between meals. I normally only eat two meals a day, and sometimes, I only eat one meal a day.
Eating lots of dietary fat and protein keeps you satiated. It's amazing how it works...but it does. And I am losing weight!

It's amazing how much food you can eat when there's a lot of veggies on the plate. Not one size fits all, just find what you are willing to stick to.

    TW: ED... .
I agree with its how you're eating primarily. I remember when inwas doing all this activity but still eating the same dont get me wrong i felt a bit fitter and lost a few lbs with activity alone.
However, what i know now is diet is most important and you may not have to do so much activity just to offset what you've eaten.
I can't do OMAD or extended fasting periods some may be able to relate due to binge eating/restrictive eating patterns and prolonged fasting triggers this because i feel like i need to overcompensate after. I find being more flexible with what I eat not being too restrictive but tracking protein as a priority encouraged me t fill up with satiating foods first. And dont eat fast food any more i could but it dont taste the same. Meal orep helps too ease the pressure and time after work but again not too strict with it but i eat what i prepared 9 times out of 10. I still snack but try to vhoose lower calorie, more nutrient dense snacks first such as pop corn low fat yoghurt pumpkin seeds fruit dark chocolate. So if there's some days in thebweek i want a chocolate bar or packet of crisps best believe im having it!.
I tell myself nothing is off limits and mentally that had made me stronger because now I make choices based on a more realistic and sustainable mindset. I walk 15k steps plus gym most days but encourage people to find what activities they like and be consistent. Walking is a good base. Down 40lbs since February and still on it 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉

Never happened and i ate pretty much everything. Also first time i also shred FAT not water weight. Omad is when i lost the most. I recently discovered my first long fast of 5 days on only water.. i wanted to do 7 but i didn’t prepared enough and felt weak by the 5th day and break it.
