  • This is what I am talking about! A 10in head unit with digital outputs. Extremely interested to test this one.

    Here's a couple of quirky things you can look into. I've got the older Android 10 model, so they may have made some changes since then.
    1. The speaker level and RCA output high pass crossover points are not accurate to what the numbers say. You can set it for 100 Hz and it might actually cross it over at 200 or even 300 Hz.
    2. On the subwoofer output you can't use the high pass and low pass filters at the same time. You have to choose one or the other.
    3. In the menu there is a setting called Power Conditioning with the number 60 next to it. This sets your output voltage on both the RCA and the speaker level outputs. If you lower it from 60 your output voltage will also lower. You can set it up so that your RCA outputs are not capable of clipping or your speaker level outputs are not capable of clipping. It's a pretty neat feature, although I leave it on 60.
    It may even affect the output level of the digital outputs, although I have not checked this.

    S/PDIF comes in Toslink (optical) and coaxial (copper) formats.

      @@eliseoquiroz8321 I have my Joying connected via toslink to my TWK 88 for daily use. For hi res stuff I connect my iPhone to a SMSL PO 100 Pro and then coax to the TWK 88. Sounds great. The coax cable can carry more information or supports a higher bit rate than toslink if I’m not mistaken.

      @@eliseoquiroz8321Both are great, so it doesn't really matter which you use. Use whatever your DSP will accept. 👍

    Dang..you've some clout now. I asked joying to send me one just because..nothing happened. However, I've been using the earlier joying 10.1 model and still working well to this day. I ran the digital coax out to my dsp and it sounds great. When I had a few hiccups here and there joying was quick to respond to emails and help resolve issues. After using the dsp parametric eq for tuning, I'll sometimes use the graphic eq in the head unit for a global tune . It's. Been well worth the money thus far. Good show Nijerus.

    Be gentle with the ribbon cable, unless they've fixed it, it is easy to pull on it too much and unplug it from the mainboard.
    If you plug a digital bridge (duok, smsl etc) into the OTG and use UAPP you can output via the bridge, bypassing android audio layer. Be interesting if you can measure any difference.

    I had a joying, it was okay whilst it worked, which was about about 18 months at which point it got very glitchy and kept restarting.

    Hopefully Atto sends you the S8 Ultra now, since Joying seems to be their main competitor.
    Ive never tested my S8 Ultra with like you do, but it does sound way better then my previous kenwood DMX1300 ($1200). Im 99% sure its due to the optical. The unit has a wifi and sim card you dont have to use phone Bluetooth either.
    Optical isolates the vehicles dirty 12v ground from the audio system. The highs and vocals are super crisp and detailed now...fn amazing.

    When you test it do not forget to play with the output levels for toslink and coax in the system settings. Curious to see what you find.

    Have you already tried to listen to the audio quality? Over BT and with AC/AA? Btw if connecting with AA (or AC) do you have to install an app on the phone, or does it function like that without installing apps on your phone outside Google Play store. (I'm not a fan of installing apps outside the known stores)

    What is the best budget DSP you reccomend? Would you say DSP is the first most important upgrade in car audio? I want to start upgrading the sound in my car. Should i switch speakers first or get DSP + SUB first?

    • @RAW-CAt
      @RAW-CAt  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Definitely a DSP first 👍 the best budget DSPs I have tested would be Nakamichi or Sennoupu.

    • @Gershy13
      @Gershy13 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@RAW-CAt Yeah i thought DSP would be the most important, Nakamichi is quite hard to find for a good price, so i will go with the Sennoupu thank you!

      @JasonWW2000 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I would suggest you carefully evaluate your system and figure out what its weakest point is.
      Some Vehicles you can't just add a DSP without changing a lot of other things. Other vehicles might have a nice sounding upper frequency range and just be lacking in low bass.

    I've had multiple Joying head units over the years. Their products are hit or miss. I have one of the first generation Qualcomm had units and it's been nothing but trouble from day one. The only thing that has been consistent, is their customer support is absolute garbage. They will string you along with pointless updates, until it is out of warranty. Then they ask you to send it back to China to be fixed. They do play nicely with the Helix DSP though!
