Here is an UPDATED video about 4 months after using this griddle and it explains my concerns, heat, goods, and bads..all while showing How to cook on low. UPDATED HALO REVIEW -- th-cam.com/video/EUsAwrI7isA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=GGbFyuUSWuV4SDp1
@TheFlatTopKing with all the newer griddles that have been released and your recent reviews maybe be great for another comparison video that you did a little over year ago. Example Flatrock vs new Weber vs new camp chef. I know as a buyer soon in the market would be great to get your thoughts on all these against one another.
You must have missed the quick start printed guide that comes with the unit. Is one of the best assembly guides I have ever seen. Love your vids, keeping up!
Hey Neil and Amy ! Another great video ....., as always ! Hey that regulator at the propane tank is probably the answer on that extreme heat ! Play with that and see if you can control it ! Look forward to the next production .
Finally pulled the trigger and got that beast. I'm looking forward to your cooks. Once you understand it more and playing with the burners in your cooks you might like it. By the way that waste bucket was made to pour the grease and stuff.
My experience putting mine together couldn't be more different. I was super impressed with the design and build, and the assembly instructions. I followed them exactly and it turned out perfectly. The quality of the assembly video was next level (once you find it on their site). I am super impressed with my 3B.
We still cant find it. When we scan the QR codes it goes straight to the website. From there we could not find it. The build is good. Like I stated in the video. Once the legs got done it came together easily.
Man, I was so convinced that the Halo would be the griddle for us…until I watched this episode. That extreme heat is not something I want to deal with. I always appreciate your honesty and frankness in these reviews. Unless something crazy changes my mind, I’m going Traeger hunting next week. You’re the best, we ‘preciate ya.
I would wait to see the full temp range on the lower pressure regulator setting. They commented on my post it gets 600f on the low pressure setting. I'm guessing that is low regulation setting, but high on the burners. That could mean pretty decent low burner temps with the low pressure
@@nicks.youtube nope. Thats low and 9.5. It was my goal to try to find low. However that happened. No way this thing hits 300 with out alternating the burners
@@TheFlatTopKing dang... That's a hot unit... I really liked the looks of this one, but not so sure anymore. I'll have to wait for your next vid to get a better judgment on it. Thanks for the vids!
You didn't try it with the propane regulator on 9.5. Please try that to lower the propane flow to lower the temp and see what happens. Thanks, Melaney from SoCal
First cook dropping tomorrow...i wasn't trying to achieve low temps this day...just simply following the seasoning instructions listed in their manual. In our first cook we back down...with 9.5 and alternating burners
I watched a lot of your videos when choosing a griddle, it came down to the Halo and Treager, I was able to see them side by side at a local furniture store and then Halo seemed to be just a bit better in all aspects. Being a noobie to griddles I guess I have gotten use to the heat, the temperature recovery is amazing.
Nice new fence. Your daddy day present just might be the 100k subs. Looking forward to the first cook. I'd imagine it would be interesting to run off just the front burner halves, either the two center or two outer, and see how the heat transfers through the griddle plate. Might be the way to get down near 300. Or, maybe how to create cooler zones for slowing down a cook. Glad you showed the plate underside, always interested in how they are reinforced.
Exactly what I was thinking why come out the hole that strong is crazy to me. I will never be cooking that hot. 9.5 is much better. I'm setting mine up now and I will use the low setting. 😁
Thank you for this and all your videos. My wife and I enjoy each one. I've been cooking on a Sam's 4-burner for a while and got tired of having food fall into the front-center-located grease hole, so bought this griddle a couple of weeks ago from an orange home improvement center. Worried it would be damaged if shipped to my house, I had it shipped to the store. When I went to pick it up, the box was badly beaten and looked like a forklift might have hit it. I had my money refunded and went to a restaurant supply store yesterday and bought a used Wolf AGM36 3-burner commercial griddle and equipment cart. With the help of a much younger and stronger neighbor, we got it to the back under the pergola and I finished hooking up the natural gas line this morning. Looking forward to your videos using the Halo. Like others have mentioned, interested in the temperature difference when the regulator is in the 9.5 position. Halo makes a popular pizza oven. With the ability to cook with the lid closed and at such high heat, would be interested in watching you experiment cooking pizzas. Many thanks.
Great review… Can truly understand your heat concern. What is really interesting is the manufacturer put a regulator on that allows for the 11 and 9.5 water column for gas. So after seasoning would you move to the 9.5 and see how the unit works or would you recommend maybe starting at the 9.5 setting and season at that temperature. I have my Halo coming and am wondering if you would start off at the 9.5 knowing what you know after your first use? Thanks for the great content
Yeah, I don't understand how he could comment about how hot it is and never even mention if that regulator was 9.5 or 11 and if it was 11 why wouldn't he turn the pressure down to 9.5 and see if that helped a lot. Guess he doesn't like "science"! Hahahahaha......
a few things..thats not what the manual says...It recommends the 11...so thats what i did. My first cook is tomorrow and we address this and used it many different ways
You guess wrong buddy...yeah i like science..the first cook is tomorrow and we go over this in detail...the manual does not say this and in fact says to use mainly in 11...thanks for the support and being patience with of course no experience with this griddle
@@TheFlatTopKing Looking forward to your next test. If you do the bread test could you maybe do it at the 11 and 9.5 regulator setting? This might give us all some insight into how the griddle reacts at both regulator settings. We love your process for figuring out a griddle’s performance and you proved you got a great seasoning on this griddle so figuring out the heat management will be something we will all be watching for. Thanks again for all you do to coach and educate us wanna be griddle masters. You are the King!
The test of that regulator is if that fuel can pass through it when its -30 and the propane tank is kept outdoors. I have had to bring my tanks indoors a few times to cook outdoors. North of the 45th Parallel it happens. Another thing no reviewer has ever commented on is SPIDERS! I have burned up a few BBQ's when one or more of the jets was clogged with Webs and the backup of gas set the knobs on fire when I went indoors to prep some food. One last thing. I bought a grill top so may years ago I cant recall how old this thing is. The Front drip tray hole often gets clogged or some dam racoon runs off with the drip can into the bushes. If the fat drips freestyle (Even without a wind) you do not want to be wearing sandals. Rear trays are safer.
Great video. The surface of the sun heat from the HALO would be perfect for those who want to deep/shallow fry on the griddle in a cast iron vessel. The most common complaint is that a griddle does not heat the oil hot enough or heats it too slowly which is why the disposable aluminum foil pans are used. That high heat would be great for severe searing for reverse searing. Also, that griddle might be effective for cooking pizza. Set the pizza on a pizza screen or perforated disk and then dome it.
Another great review video guys! But after watching all your griddle reviews, I truly believe the wind guards come with a high cost of not allowing the griddle to dissipate the heat fast enough to actually have a useable low setting. You sold me on the 28" Weber griddle (without wind guards) when you turned 2 burners down to low and actually had a 100 degree temp drop.
David Ward From other sites that have reviewed the Halo, the 9.5" setting does lower the temp, but no as much as I think Neal will want. I think a lot of the heat issue comes from the front and back burners both have segments that heat the center of the griddle top and those segments are very close together. I wonder what would happen if you tried blocking the center segment of the rear burner with some high temp foil tape or similar (just to test a theory). Then with all burners on you only have 1 segment in the center instead of 2. I suspect it will be more even front to rear then. If this works, not sure what a long term high temp solution might be to block that one segment in each rear burner (high temp silicone? You could still remove it and it would not damage the burner metal).
I've had the Halo for 3m and there is no going back for me. Love this thing. Not sure why you are getting so hot. I'm not seeing that and I cook on mid to high all the time. I even have this in a plastic storage that I cook out of. That is crazy.
Well in fairness this was the seasoning....we dont suggest or tell anyone to cook on high...when this happened instead of refilming I felt like it was important to show what you are buying...it can and has shown by others to get this hot...ii am actually on my deck playing around with temp zones to relay to people in the next video
I need some help, if anyone has any suggestions or diagnosis help. First Time Newbie. After weeks of research and learning online, I received my new Halo Elite 2B. Using what I have learned on this channel and elsewhere, including the manufacturers instructions, I cleaned the griddle with soapy water, rinsed and fully dried and then seasoned. I used quality 100% avocado oil. Following the best practices, I applied thin layers with a paper towel, no pooling, etc and allowed the oil completely smoke off between coats. I did 6 coats. Griddle temps were generally between 500 and 600, some areas were 600+ at times. By coat 4, my griddle had progressively taken on the black color, as expected. I did noticed a slight change in behavior around coat 4. The oil would noticeably bead, which I have not seen or heard mentioned in any video. After six coats I called it good and ended. The next day I attempted a "fried egg test". brought the griddle up to between 300 and 325. I put down a small squirt of oil, but could not really evenly "spread" it across the cooking area. In stead, I could only create an area with lots of small oil beads. The eggs stuck severely and instantly. Requiring some careful scraping to get the bulk off, which still exposed some griddle steel. I cleaned the rest with a wet rag and muscle while the griddle was still warm. Fearing I had made some mistake or had somehow not seasoned enough, I basically redid the entire seasoning process, especially in the area that I had scraped the egg off. I did at least 4 full seasoning coats, taking great care to make sure I got full coverage with thin layers and letting it fully cook off. I'm going to try again, but I have no idea where my error is. I don't really expect a different result. Thanks!
Thanks for the review! I'm definitely curious about your thoughts when using it for cooking. I received the Elite 4B just a few days ago and was also surprised by the high heat and paper towels getting singed so quickly and easily while seasoning the griddle. However, I've been quite happy with the temperatures when I used it to cook fried rice and french toast. The temperatures weren't nearly as oppressive for the actual cooking I did. I used the normal regulator setting too.
yeah thats exactly my thoughts so far...didnt really seem to adjust anything....The first cook which already dropped shows us using the 9.5 and less burners to hit low...
WOW!! Love your channel I'm new to the Griddle world and I have a new Blackstone 1984 version. I ordered your spices the other day can't wait to get them!! Keep up the great videos and thanks again to you and your wife!! I used one of your smash burger videos and my wife told me yesterday I made the best burger she ever tasted!! Thanks again!!!
I just bought this griddle in the 3 burner version. I also converted it to NG. Mine runs awesome, on low with the cover closed preheated for 20 minutes the grill was 375 to 395 from left to right. Enjoying your videos need some tips as this is my first griddle.
Thanks for the info! I unfortunately dont have natural gas....I have heard from other uses that it does allow for lower air flow and allows for less heat...This video was about seasoning...we never tried to hit low...just wanted to clarify..we have already posted the first cook video and it was nothing like this...cheers
This griddle seems very interesting. A lot of features that i like. Even nice sized casters. Im wondering like some of the other viewers what setting the regulator was on. And what kind of temperature difference there is using both front and back burners vs just front. I think it would be better if they were plumbed opposite. So you can run the back burner and not the front ( having to work over the hottest part of the griddle to reach the cooler part of the griddle doesn't make sense) Sure its easier to plumb this way but I'd rather pay a little more and have it work correctly. Looking forward to seeing you cook on this plus perhaps figure out how to better manage the heat. Have a great day. This griddle looks very promising.
@The Flat Top King good luck. I'll be waiting for the video. Fyi, I didn't even know about this company. Something else, a customer shouldn't have to modify what they buy but it seems someone who works with propane could probably suggest a different regulator with a lower out put to get the burners into the sweet spot. It seems most griddles burn a tad to high and a lower output regulator could do the trick. Ok enough, have a great day 🌤 😀 👍 🍻🔥
Thanks for the new vid as always! Can you do a review on the Char Griller Flat Iron Premium? Thing looks like it covers a bunch of bases and has a great price tag. I would like to see what your thoughts are on that unit. I am not finding any in-depth reviews on it and don't understand why... looks pretty nice for the average user.
Guys, another great video. I really like the top construction and the burner configuration. The way it seasoned 100% is amazing. Uniform color and egg cook shows how well it (You) seasoned it. Like a few have said I would adjust the regulator to the 9.5 and see how well it reduces the temperatures. Maybe two different bread test? Keep up the great work you do for the community!!
NO thats too early....that was only the seasoning with the burners on high...We never recommend cooking on high and have preached that for years...frist cook has already posted and nothing like this..and we are acting cooking on it today...cheers
We can always count on a fair and honest review from you. That is screaming hot, not sure why you would need the griddle that hot and am anxious to see how low it can maintain. Thanks again for another great video.
My thoughts exactly..in this video it was not about low temps...just simply seasoning the griddle...The first cook which already dropped shows us using the 9.5 and less burners to hit low...
I’d be interested to see some comparisons as far as temperature and distribution wiry the regulator on both settings while running only the front burners and with both the front and back half of the burner. Four total options on low there. I was half tempted to buy this griddle for Father’s Day and for the move to our new home. I’m not so convinced now, but still not totally discouraged. I’m more impressed by the Traeger than ever now though. Keep up the great work.
In this video it wasn’t about low temps. I was following the manual instructions. I do agree that 9.5 should help. In reality it does and does not. This unit get hot refund configurations. I have released the first cook where we show the 9.5 regulator and trying to get low. Check that one and see what ya think.
Really an honest review of this Halo griddle. It’s definitely on my short list. The wind proof is important to me. It would be great if you could alternate front and back burners. I did watch Tommy’s unboxing and assembly and I’m sure he appreciates the shout out. The thickness of the griddle plate is impressive too. Let’s see how that first cook goes out maybe it’s a small learning curve because of its unique 8 burner system . Great video Neal and Amy! Cheers brother!
Good idea on the burner s. I have a Members Mark 4 burner griddle that I modified. I replaced the straight burners with u burners for even heat distribution. A huge improvement on the heat distribution. I left the original regulator and my temps on low are 325 and on high, 550. Perfect! Their idea is nice, they just used the wrong regulator. 700 is way to hot!
Nice looking griddle Neal. But your review was great 👍🏽 I also agree with what you were saying. Especially how hot it gets. The heat in the back that builds up is insane wouldn’t like it that hot especially having close to your house. Great work great review can’t wait for the bread test and the first cook. You and your family have a great weekend 👍🏽
Excellent review on the HALO! This is definitely a heat machine, can’t wait to watch the first cook! Congratulations on 100 K, you do a phenomenal job! Cheers brother 🍻
@@TheFlatTopKing I do agree the instructions could be a lot better. I ended up missing some things and would have to take things off and put them back again.
My opinion overall it looks very nice, great features and looks Awesome. I would buy one. Maybe if you wax the cover it would be easier to clean. Thank you for sharing .😊
I did some T-bones on the Pit Boss last night, first time ever direct cooking steak so I had no idea what the hell I was doing. I just put down a layer of avocado oil, then rubbed about 2 tbsp or so of butter in using the end of the stick, then threw them on there and let them cook about 4 minutes on each side until they were temping 135. Turned out pretty good.
Good video Neal ! Looks like you are gonna need that outdoor kitchen sooner then later my friend ! This griddle looks like the coolest of all . probably the most expensive of all. THANK YOU FRANK FROM MONTANA....
Well this was just the seasoning ....had no idea it would get that hot that fast...but the First cook dropping today and we go over all the temps....and options...
You should try a “taco cart” often in my area I see them for sale at swap meetings or offer up.. they seem great because they usually have 2-5 side compartments to hold meat or eggs and bacon or whatever you cooking to keep warm with a burner under them..
Loved the review! There are a lot of nice features on this one too, just not the grease bucket. Looking forward to your next video on this one, although it's just 5 tabs up in my browser today! (Been out of commission since before Memorial Day and just catching up! Wanted to keep continuity!) It'll be interesting to see how you dealt with the heat. The one thing I hated about my friends griddle is how the heat escaped from the working side/front/that part you have to reach over to shuffle the food around. Led to some singed fingers and colorful metaphors!
My Traeger flatrock started cracking near the control knobs. Replacement did the same after some time. Seems to be a common issue. I went with halo elite 4b instead and I couldn’t be happier with performance and build quality
I have heard that a few times now...i had no idea about the Traeger breaking...So far so good on mine....glad the Halo is working out for ya...Once you dial the different congregations around and learn the goods and bad it truly is a good griddle...
Thanks for the great review of the Halo 4B griddle. Your review is fair and honest. And you bring up a good concern about the oil flash point to be aware of. Your first impression accurately identified and presented awareness about several items based on your preferences and experience that you are not in favor of. I recently purchased the Halo 3B griddle, and I did not have any assembly issues. I also purchased the NG conversion kit, which was installed without issues. Overall, I find the Halo 3B griddle product quality very good. All components and parts are clearly labeled for assembly, and the fit/finish is very good. Yes, I agree with you that the Halo griddle cooking surface is heavy. However, Halo protects the griddle surface from warping by welding cross-member fixtures across the underside which also strengthens and provides rigidity. I watched your reviews for Weber, Pit Boss, and Blackstone before purchasing the Halo 3B griddle. I was not impressed with these other griddles' heat distribution, lack of wind protection, overall fit/finish, and quality of materials. I’m looking forward to your Halo 4B first cook. Keep up the good work.
Thanks for your follow up. As you have mentioned previously, individual preferences and previous experiences are relative. I’m new to griddling, your reviews are valuable because they are based on your professional chef experiences and knowledge. You also provide a practical user perspective view which is very helpful. Again, keep up the good work 😊
Hey Neal, Thx for this review. 15:45 When you said the griddle was way hot, was that with the propane regulator on the 9.5 (smaller setting)? I wonder if that makes a difference? Thanks.
It was in the 11...that being said we will be doing an update soon...i have several videos out their by now about cooking on this griddle...I will say this Quickly...this was seasoning only..not cooking...I would never suggest cooking on high on any griddle... I have used the 9.5 after this and honestly just does not make a difference....it can get hot for sure...you might not be using all the burnes at once...its highly recommend not to unless you plan on using the whole griddle
I thought you might want to know about the Blackstone Adventure Series griddle, the 1891 model. It can't be taken apart to clean or replace the burners. In fact there ARE NO replacement burners for it! I bought one and spiders got in it and that is how I found out you can't clean the tubes.
The camp chef still seems to be the best all around griddle. Even heat distribution, low heat capabilities, No need for wind guards, well built, grease trap position…good price. I do think the spatula scrapper is kinda cool, but don’t think it will last long. What am I missing?
Hello King.. couple of questions. Did you have both front and back burners on, if yes, I think a follow video is needed to see how hot it gets with just the front burners on. And second question is where did you have the adjustable regulator set at? Sorry if these were covered during your video
Many videos have posted since this video was released. All those questions have been addressed in detail. The fist cook we put front burners on. The big breakfast we used zones for cooking. Thanks for commenting
I’ve got to be honest, I am new to this but my $300.00 36 inch Blackstone from Walmart gets the job done, not sure why anyone would need to spend more money. I bought it before I went balls deep on a built in stainless top, I think I am going to hang out with this thing for a while.
Well in fairness lets cook on this thing to she the real griddle...i have some cooks lined up for it and see if it can be done..using the lid could be the key...The Traeger is 899 and its well worth it...
took me 2 hrs put my pit boss together lol. i noticed people who pay for the grills are more honest then the ones who get them for free to try out. grease trap is over kill for sure. like how u can adjust the burners, grill is a tank for sure.
Seems like I’m one of the few that prefers a hotter unit! I’ll take the sear all day long! (You can turn on a single zone and leave everything off to achieve lower temps for eggs etc).
Great review and thanks 🙂 Nice looking griddle BUT the amount of heat output is extreme. I fear there will be fires result from improper usage of the griddle, oil, oil applicators and anyone that uses alcohol in their cooks. Who even needs such temps? Looking forward to your first cook video!
THANK YOU for your upfront compensation disclosure. I was going to click off the video thinking it was just another [compensated] "honest review". You indicated early on that you bought it with your own money, so I watched the entire video. I noticed, as I think others will as well... viewers can sure tell which review videos have been compensated and those that have not. I have said it for years... when you spend your own hard earned money for something you view it with a more critical eye than had you got the item for free. Keep up the good work !
Thanks Larry...regardless if you trust me or not..i can say truly and you can tell my many of my reviews...getting it for free does not change my opinions....i have stayed brutally honest...and the reason why is with in one week of getting a griddle you can see the same things I see....you cant hide the truth with these...temp is temp...bread is bread...so I learned early on... you better be brutally honest to build a strong foundation...
@@TheFlatTopKing when there are to many bad reviews on a channel... the free stuff stops coming. Compensation Bias is a real thing. It's inherent and many times unrealized by the reviewer. Companies know this and it's exactly why reviews are inundating of late on TH-cam. It's the modern day word of mouth advertising. When someone gives me free stuff, I ask... what's the catch ? There's ALWAYS a catch !
Sounds like this will be choice for a reverse sear. To me the pellet grill takes too long to get to 600-700 degrees (riot mode,) plus if you've been doing lots of low and slow, you open the cover and get a flash fire. The griddle doesn't have that problem ( generally). New one not so sure.
I got my griddle at Sam's club on sale for $150. I don't see dropping $900 for a griddle that is so hot that objects on the wing tables will catch fire. Thanks for the warnings about how uncomfortable it is to cook with this Halo grill.
NO>>NO>>this is not cooking...this was seasoning...we never tried to hit low temps..but yes the temps can get extremely hot...we have a few cooks on this by now and show how to run temps accordingly
Looks like you have some experiments to do. I agree it's gonna be a hot griddle. I was super impressed with it before your video but your concerns are justified. Hopefully you can figure it out for everyone and share. Love you guys. Keep up the awesome work.
Grease Trap- If you made it to where when you lift the yellow handle and the grease tray swung out from under the hood and opening, that would be neat.
So the 9.5 to 11” WC. The WC is an industry standard, stands for Water Column. Your natural gas coming into your house would be measured in the same way. As a point of reference, the 9.5” will be pretty close to 1/3 of a psi. Didn’t read through all the comments but if you haven’t tried it a 9.5, I’d give that a shot, it should lower your heat.
Yes..in this video it was not about low temps...just simply seasoning the griddle...The first cook which already dropped shows us using the 9.5 and less burners to hit low...
excellent review. i have never heard of this griddle before. i think the burners are really unique. interesting it gets so hot. thanks for sharing. i would think that thats a little too hot.
I traded in my Camp Chef FTG600 for the Weber 36" 4 burner. I was considering this Halo Elite4b but just couldn't justify the price difference with no shelf 🙃
Wow once again thank you for your opinion on this I know it will help people. I myself are like you I don't need it to go over medium on my blackstone. But it looks like a really nice griddle though
Yes..in this video it was not about low temps...just simply seasoning the griddle...The first cook which already dropped shows us using the 9.5 and less burners to hit low...
As usual, a great, unbiased review. I was certain that this was the griddle I’d be purchasing next…. but now? I’m not as sure. It may be too hot for my physical premises. I look forward to your first cook and future cooks where you’ll hopefully find a means of cooking at lower temps - without taking any external measures. Maybe the two stage regulator , run on 9” WC (low) will be that solution. I hope so. There’s so much I like about this griddle. I wonder if only running the front half would yield an even, lower temp… anyway, thanks again for buying this and doing another outstanding review. I look forward to your videos and trust your opinion.
He makes a good analogy of it being a Ferrari. Yes, you can floor it and hit high temps, which its purpose is to sear. Which I will tell you it can sear the hell out of a steak. I also get the safety issue with the flashpoint on some oils. To someone not familar with that, it can be a hazard. With having some extra burner control, you can get the temps very low based on the configuration. For example, I turn just the front corner burners on to get lower temps in the center. You sacrifice 25% of cooking area to do so, but its so easy to cook lower. With the lid closed I can get an ambient temp of 230-250 with 1 column of burners on. Then just bake on the other side. Just enough to bake at slow and low temps. This grill is for those who like to get creative. Like he said. It has potential, it depends upon the user. Learn the grill and you can make some good stuff on it. Shit I just made a 16" pizza on it. If you want it get it. You won't be let down.
@@RoyalF04 I cant thank you enough for actually listening to my comments. So many of the responses has been I didn’t do this or that. Well let’s wait to the first cook and play around with it. I was only seasoning. Wasn’t looking for low. This comment needs to copied and pasted about 100 times already
Interesting unit there my guy! Shoot I thought my Blackstone runs fairly hot.that one must be Hell 🔥 HOT 😳. Lets see how the initial cook comes out, and great choice with running back a Chopped Cheese. I too have been thinking about doing some. See ya on the next 1, cheers y’all 👊🏼😎🤙🏼
I have 2 questions, did you have the valve on the tank set to the lower 9.5 setting or the higher setting? Secondly, despite your last griddle review, have you seen the steel made griddle tops, that are designed to go on top of existing grills or cooking surfaces? They make one for oven surfaces and I've contemplated looking into this because I love cooking on a griddle so often but I'm curious if it would be more hassle than it's worth?
First..when seasonings the griddle i didnt think there was any reason to adjust from 11 to 9.5....second we just posted the second cook and go over all the options trying to dial down the temps....still not there yet...I have not reviewed or even seen a steel made..i have heard of them but no experience
I’m with you on the major pain to assemble. I’m a 63 year old sawmill mechanical technician so I’m no greenhorn to assembling anything. It took me close to two hours to get mine together. Grease trap is a joke.
Having all those burners, it makes sense that it gets hot as the surface of the sun. Thinking of how many heat jets that has compared to other griddles, it makes sense to me. Your mileage may vary.
When you were showing how hot it was getting I was like,” your vynel siding is gunna melt!!!” Have to keep a pitcher of ice water beside you to cool those knuckles.
hahahah no kidding...of course I would never have it that hot in normal cooking...but just seasoning the griddle...First cook dropping today and we go over all the temps....and options...
Was there a reason, other than the sake of space and trying new griddles, that you got rid of the camp chef? I think I've narrowed my preferences down to that one, but I'm unsure of that $600 price point. Thanks for a great channel
Yes we do...thanks bud....in this video it was not about low temps...just simply seasoning the griddle...The first cook which already dropped shows us using the 9.5 and less burners to hit low...
I would try that again but put the regulator at 9.5 and it should be cooler, not sure how much but cooler. I read through the manual and it is perfectly safe to do so.
@@TheFlatTopKing I hear what you are saying but on page 16 it seems pretty clear ...". If you want to cook with slightly lower temperatures, then set the regulator to the 9.5" ... I think they assume most people are going to want a hot griddle and if you really have this loaded up you might need that. I just know if I spent $1000 on a griddle I would sure try it, and if it can't do it then it's not worth $10.
That's the plan!....in this video it was not about low temps...just simply seasoning the griddle...The first cook which already dropped shows us using the 9.5 and less burners to hit low...
Here is an UPDATED video about 4 months after using this griddle and it explains my concerns, heat, goods, and bads..all while showing How to cook on low.

Thanks for sharing with us Neil and Amy. Great information you shared with us on this Halo Griddle Review. Fred.
Our pleasure!
Well truly I appreciate ya more....thanks for the support
When I need a lower heat I just turn the side burners on and leave the center burners off to balance it out. Just gotta know your griddle.
Which gas pressure were you using ? On 9.5 does it lower the temp ?
I used 11....yes 9.5 says less...in my first cook you will see it didnt matter....
Can you cook low?
you must have got it at Nebraska!
Try the regulator at 9.5 and do the testing. After the seasoning I would have lowered to 9.5 and repeat temp probing
Exactly what I was thinking why come out the hole that strong is crazy to me. I will never be cooking that hot. 9.5 is much better. I'm setting mine up now and I will use the low setting. 😁
Agreed!
Yes the first cook is coming tomorrow and we go over that...the manual says to keep at 11 for most of your cooks...
Because 9.5 dosnt change anything...first cook tomorrow...
I know I was one of the comments asking to review it.... and I want to say Thank You!!! I take your opinion on griddles over all other on TH-cam.
Hey I appreciate that....truly...we have some exciting things coming for this griddle
Absolutely....thats definitely on the list very soon...interested as well
I was hoping to see temp differences between the two settings on the regulator
The first cook is coming tomorrow...around 600 with 9.5....
@@NewFocusLLC i didn’t do the 11. No need. I did the 9.5. Whole thing was based on getting the lowest temp possible. Video posting tomorrow
Stand alone gas frier- $40 - $100
Halo $900
Pizza best shot for a griddle with the insulated hood. You may be on to something there.
Its definitely up there on my list...going back and forth for number 1
David Ward
From other sites that have reviewed the Halo, the 9.5" setting does lower the temp, but no as much as I think Neal will want.
Hey that is music to my ears...cheers bud....
Once again Victor....spot on...thinking the same exact thing...first cook tomorrow
Thanks so much! first cook dropping today and we go over all the temps....
Thank you for your honest review of this Halo Griddle. I would to think twice about purchasing this one.
NO thats too early....that was only the seasoning with the burners on high...We never recommend cooking on high and have preached that for years...frist cook has already posted and nothing like this..and we are acting cooking on it today...cheers
Always like to see your reviews of all the choices. Keep up the good work.
What setting did you have the regulator on?
When I seasoned i had it on 11....my first cook I used 9.5. its posting tomorrow
We can always count on a fair and honest review from you. That is screaming hot, not sure why you would need the griddle that hot and am anxious to see how low it can maintain. Thanks again for another
great video.
Just posted the first cook..thats where we go over the temp options etc...
Did you try the PRV set to 9.5"? Maybe it will run cooler at the lower seting.
Try setting the regulator to the lower setting, maybe it will cook a drop cooler?
In this video it wasn’t about low temps. I was following the manual instructions. I do agree that 9.5 should help. In reality it does and does not. This unit get hot refund configurations. I have released the first cook where we show the 9.5 regulator and trying to get low. Check that one and see what ya think.
Great video Neal & Amy as always, we'll see what the first cook looks like, thank you...
You bet!
Cheers brother!
thanks bud...just posted the first cook...let me know
@@TheFlatTopKing definitely will do.
Great switch right there...thanks...Problem is...it gets hotter...800 plus...
Thanks Robert....
Another great video. I really like the way you evaluate your griddles, very thorough.
Thanks MIke....
Excellent review on the HALO! This is definitely a heat machine, can’t wait to watch the first cook! Congratulations on 100 K, you do a phenomenal job! Cheers brother 🍻
Thanks bud...i appreciate the support
I like mine. But i always cook mine with regulator on 9.5. Never burnt anything yet. Or caught a fire. I have the 3b though.
NO I dont expect to burn things either hahahaha....
Absolutely bud....thanks for watching
I did some T-bones on the Pit Boss last night, first time ever direct cooking steak so I had no idea what the hell I was doing. I just put down a layer of avocado oil, then rubbed about 2 tbsp or so of butter in using the end of the stick, then threw them on there and let them cook about 4 minutes on each side until they were temping 135. Turned out pretty good.
Absolutely....some will add garlic and herbs before taking off and basting the steaks...
Good video Neal ! Looks like you are gonna need that outdoor kitchen sooner then later my friend ! This griddle looks like the coolest of all . probably the most expensive of all. THANK YOU FRANK FROM MONTANA....
Thanks bud....
You said there was an aperture adjust to lower the flow of propane. You stated you left your wide open. Maybe adjusting it down?
Well this was just the seasoning ....had no idea it would get that hot that fast...but the First cook dropping today and we go over all the temps....and options...
You should try a “taco cart” often in my area I see them for sale at swap meetings or offer up.. they seem great because they usually have 2-5 side compartments to hold meat or eggs and bacon or whatever you cooking to keep warm with a burner under them..
I've been checking your channel for this every day. Thanks for doing this!
Welcome!
Yes sir...working on temp configurations as we speak...no doubt a learning curve... not a set it and forget it....we will get it dialed down...
@@TheFlatTopKing glad your unit isn’t effected. I loved the flatrock outside of that one thing.
Thanks so much for the support..first cook dropping today and we go over all the temps....
Thanks for your follow up. As you have mentioned previously, individual preferences and previous experiences are relative. I’m new to griddling, your reviews are valuable because they are based on your professional chef experiences and knowledge. You also provide a practical user perspective view which is very helpful. Again, keep up the good work 😊
Hey Neal,
Thx for this review.
WOW...i didn't know that...thanks
I'm curious to see how you manage the high temperature. Seems like it could be an advantage for certain things, like stir fry🤔
My Blackstone doesn't get that hot and fried rice can be cooked almost to fast for me to keep up with.
Absolutely...tomorrow is the first cook
The camp chef still seems to be the best all around griddle. Even heat distribution, low heat capabilities, No need for wind guards, well built, grease trap position…good price. I do think the spatula scrapper is kinda cool, but don’t think it will last long. What am I missing?
not much its definitely a great griddle
Can you show how the legs fold up for storage?
took me 2 hrs put my pit boss together lol. i noticed people who pay for the grills are more honest then the ones who get them for free to try out. grease trap is over kill for sure. like how u can adjust the burners, grill is a tank for sure.
First cook dropping today and we go over all the temps....and options...
Seems like I’m one of the few that prefers a hotter unit! I’ll take the sear all day long! (You can turn on a single zone and leave everything off to achieve lower temps for eggs etc).
Absolutely...have plenty of videos since this has posted...thanks for commenting...
That was exactly my point..thank you...just because you can does not mean you should...and someone will try for sure
Hi Neal I just checked incase you haven’t or someone hasn’t told you the flash point for grapeseed oil is 650F
So the Halo could be a fire hazard
Thanks for the heads up!
Hey I appreciate that....no doubt working the kinks out...
I have been looking forward to this review for a long time!
You and me both! What did you think
Grease Trap- If you made it to where when you lift the yellow handle and the grease tray swung out from under the hood and opening, that would be neat.
100 absolutely...keep it locked and easily removable but able to take the metal pan out without taking the whole unit off..
Great video!
To combat the high heat, could you do the regular at 9.5 and only use the front half of the burners? Maybe even half of those.
Yes you can! we actually did that on our first cook...posting tomorrow
Personally i hate the rear grease trap..i love the ultimate grill front grease trap..no need to move the griddle to access the rear.
How are you liking the Weber vs the Camp Chef....
@@TheFlatTopKing comes on this Friday! Can't wait!
I thought of the perfect application for this grill. Hibachi flat top !
I think the high side of this griddle should be better...looking forward to many ideas for it...
How does it perform with the regulator on the lower setting? That might be the solution?!
First cook posting tomorrow...
Thanks for your honest reviews
Well I appreciate that...cheers
Wow once again thank you for your opinion on this I know it will help people. I myself are like you I don't need it to go over medium on my blackstone. But it looks like a really nice griddle though
Yes..in this video it was not about low temps...just simply seasoning the griddle...The first cook which already dropped shows us using the 9.5 and less burners to hit low...
Curious how snug the lid (and cover, if you have it) is to keep out critters. Thanks!
Snug for sure. No problems
Any olans to review the LOCO grill with the digital automatic temperature setting per burner?
Not at this time...it takes power to operate...
My ocd couldn’t leave those round stickers on there 😮
They are gone..ahahahah
Hi Neal I just checked incase you haven’t or someone hasn’t told you the flag point for grape seed oil is 650F
So the Halo could be a fire hazard
First cook is dropping tomorrow...we discuss all the options..
See ya on the next 1, cheers y’all 👊🏼😎🤙🏼
Dropping tomorrow bud...thanks
@@TheFlatTopKing right on, cant wait ✊🏼🧐
Curious to see your first cook on it. Not a fan of that grease trap for sure.
Your set griddle valve at 11…what was temps running on chock down of 9.5?
550 ish...released the first cooking video already..cooked on 9.5 and adjusted all the knobs...
Man i agree...someone said it took 35 min...ahahaahha aint no way unless you have put one together before...i appreciate the comment...
Was really hoping that you would get a Loco griddle. Curious how accurate the digital temp display is?
needs power at all times to cook..not for me...
Having all those burners, it makes sense that it gets hot as the surface of the sun. Thinking of how many heat jets that has compared to other griddles, it makes sense to me. Your mileage may vary.
first cook dropping today and we go over all the temps....
Might want to invest in a couple ABC fire extinguishers a fire can ruin your whole weekend ! Scary Tim Nj.
Is that warming rack going to drip down the back of the griddle when the lid is lifted?
Yes...in my last review video..i went over that exact topic...I didn't know that at the time I posted this...
Thanks. Very informative and honest review.
I appreciate that. The big breakfast is posting on Monday. It goes over more in-depth temps and how to actually use the griddle
Haha...I saw the "This/That" mention in this video! Thanks!!
hahahah
When you were showing how hot it was getting I was like,” your vynel siding is gunna melt!!!” Have to keep a pitcher of ice water beside you to cool those knuckles.
hahahah no kidding...of course I would never have it that hot in normal cooking...but just seasoning the griddle...First cook dropping today and we go over all the temps....and options...
Was there a reason, other than the sake of space and trying new griddles, that you got rid of the camp chef? I think I've narrowed my preferences down to that one, but I'm unsure of that $600 price point. Thanks for a great channel
Yeah no problem...just wanted to only cook on a few..so sometimes things has to go making way for others...we liked it and still recommended today
Accidents happen. As much as you grill I assume you have an up to date fire extinguisher on hand and accessible??
Yes we do...thanks bud....in this video it was not about low temps...just simply seasoning the griddle...The first cook which already dropped shows us using the 9.5 and less burners to hit low...
I would try that again but put the regulator at 9.5 and it should be cooler, not sure how much but cooler. I read through the manual and it is perfectly safe to do so.
Well we must had read Different manuals...mine says to use the 11 in normal circumstances...yeah you can use the 9.5...
@@TheFlatTopKing I hear what you are saying but on page 16 it seems pretty clear ...". If you
want to cook with slightly lower temperatures, then set the regulator to the 9.5" ... I think they assume most people are going to want a hot griddle and if you really have this loaded up you might need that. I just know if I spent $1000 on a griddle I would sure try it, and if it can't do it then it's not worth $10.
Very interesting my friend 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻😎🏴ill wait until you do a proper cook up on it before i get my head around it👍🏻👍🏻brilliant as per usual review.
That's the plan!....in this video it was not about low temps...just simply seasoning the griddle...The first cook which already dropped shows us using the 9.5 and less burners to hit low...
Dude, I seriously put it together in 35 minutes just using the instruction book.
My wife put it together for me! 😂 The whole time taking care of a 6 month and a 2 years old. Sorry I had to say it.
Dang not us...the first leg got us..hahahah after that it was easier...and thats why i dont film putting them together...ahahahha
Can’t wait to see the cooks on the Halo!
Posting tomorrow
@@TheFlatTopKing I’ll be watching for it!
