Pointless video, you might as well wait until 2030 when we will finally get 4060 performance APUs...The new AMD Strix Point APU with rdna 3.5 are not as good as you think, they will be an improvement compared to Z1e but only at higher TDPs, that's why no one is using them, besides the Ally even the Zotac Zone was announced with Z1e, and that's coming in September, that means AMD doesn't have a good successor to the Z1e yet for that 10W to 25W TDP range. Maybe next year we will get something better, but as i said if we keep waiting the things coming next year we might wait forever at that point. To me 2x battery life, 24gb of faster ram, 2 type c ports and better controller and cooling system ara a worth upgrade coming from the OG Ally, and it will be a pretty great device until Ally 2 in summer/fall 2025 with hopefully some new meaningful AMD processor
So you still validated what I said? Wait for the Pro end chips to release late this year early next 890m for higher end and boutique Chinese 870m for z1e competitor.
@@WinDeckTechwhere did AMD say they will release 890m iGPU handheld socs? Your assuming they will and even if they will, there will probably be better versions of the APU by the same time next year.
I doubt they gonna use the actual 880 or 890m chip the reason why they modify 780m to Z1 is to reduce cost!!! If they don't modify it then prepare for $1000 Handheld together with those UNecessary features like OLED screen!!! I'm just gonna buy Gaming Loptop or Build a Gaming PC than a $1000 Handheld
I already pay over 1k cad for my handhelds :( the laptop v handheld argument is always an interesting one to be sure. But at the same time, other mfgs such as gpd and ayaneo have been able to offer the 7840u and 8840u at very compelling/competing prices.
if the pice is better than a gaming laptop might be the best option for you. but i just love gaming with a hand held on the bed in the evening, and then watching some videos with a redlight filter and i can still fall asleep no problem.
The thing is there will always be something better on the horizon, that's the nature of technology. The Ally X should last a significantly long time and performs very well.
If next gen is 40% upgrade, it would bring a massive improvement in fps. Going from 40 fps on low to say 55-60 will make a noticable difference. Also the jump from 6400-7500 ram to 8533 and capacity from 16 to 24 is a big deal. I think a lot about this though because I don't play most new games so that might not be enough for 2x the price
Same mindset before I went with the Deck. I play mostly JRPGs and "old triple A games." They don't require much power to run. Didn't have trouble with Daybreak that just launched this month. I'll consider upgrading if we ever get a Steam Deck 2 or in 3yrs maybe with what's the latest. I have a gaming PC so this kind of purchase is really not a priority.
I don't understand this logic. Tech bloggers were saying don't buy rtx 2080 wait for next generation and crypto mining thing happened and people like me ended up using rx 470 4gb for 3 more years. I say don't buy ally x if you already have Ally, do not need sd card and you ALWAYS play on your couch
@XGARXS my friend own go..and from my experience yea a little better (I think 1200p low details)looks good ..but 1080p on 7 inch ally display is ok .....I think biggest question is how big handheld/display u prefer and for extra bucks lenovo give u few more fps an little better resolution..but overall not big difference
Sorry, 30% is not a substantial upgrade and is not next gen worthy? Do you truly think perhaps you mistyped and meant 3% because last time I checked just under a third of something is a substantial amount
Mid Gen refresh are always the best things to buy if you don't want problems. You should have started with the X and not the original Ally. The same goes for phones, skip the first Gen because that's where all the problems are. This device will be headache free for anybody who gets it . If you run out and get the next big upgrade it's going to have more flaws than the refresh that comes after . There is a flaw in your logic but I understand it .
@@WinDeckTech 100% or more is a substantial upgrade, everything below 50% is a gen u skip if you have the previous gen, same like with desktop gpus. you got a 3080 fine dont upgrade wait for 5080 ect
start to notice the pc handheld scenes is slowly becoming like the smartphone scene. You hold off hoping for the next best thing only to buy it before ANOTHER next best thing is recently announced. So far my research lead to ROG ally being the more bang for buck for what it offers but luckily Asus announces the Ally X, unless by December we have another pc handheld that's better than the Ally X in terms of RAM and Battery size, I am inclined with the Ally X
I’m all for it, the original Ally is more than good enough for most people. Tons of people are willing to wait to get a better offer on an older device that’s good enough. Before the X got announced a used Ally with extreme chip was going for around 500-600 for a used good condition one but after being announced I saw a lot going for 400-450 on excellent condition. I managed to get my brother one for 350$ and it only had a few scratches here and there and I was a bit envious since I paid 650$ for mine even with a discount but then I realize how much I enjoy mine and think it’s worth every single dollar so just imagine how happy my brother is with the deal he got.
I have seen fair condition ones on US Best Buy going for sub 300. Like you said these new devices are great for people who want them and even better for people who waited because now they can pick up a super cheap but super great device (og Rog)
I think it's one for them things. People saying wait is kind of wrong. The Rog ally has been out for 12 months now got numerous updates fixing alot of bugs and making the experience more and more streamlined. The X is the calibration of everything they have improved on the ally but a hardware improvement on what everyone complained about and wanted. Upping the ram, bigger battery adding new power modes and improvements to the sticks ect. Yes there will be some new devices out but will they been as good as the X. Example look at the go and others that have come before it. For me I won't be upgrading my original ally for this but if someone was looking for a device to buy as they don't have one ide recommend it over others on the market and ones that are coming so far. That said great to have a choice though.
Couldn't agree more. Can wait forever if we want the next best thing coming out. THe Ally X is an amazing machine and the additional changes have been huge. Battery life is massive upgrade, not having to change VRAM all the time, being able to install Bazzite makes it into a SD (for those who want that) and honestly the performance is good enough for a while onward.
Basically this is like upgrading a 4070 ti super to a 4080 super not much of a huge upgrade. I baught a legion gon and I'm loving it the ally x was my other option but glad i got the go
You missing the point 890M is not good enough, the 16CU variant need 45W minimum so can't be used in Handheld, the 12CU is slightly better, so AMD and others will skip over 9000 gen anyway, so you will be stuck with expensive Chinese brands only. It's only Lunar lake that will get proper new gen performance which is coming to MSI Claw, Ally biggest weakness wasn't more performance but more battery and that's fixed. So no if you want handheld go for Ally X or wait for new MSI Claw
@@WinDeckTech Bro Z1E have a base of 9W and still need at least 20W to show it's power, what matters is the designed TDP and it's made to work on machines aimed at 45W+, so laptops + Tablets, only Handheld reached this level is Aya Neo Kun. 16CU won't make it on mainstream handhelds, only big and expensive Chinese ones will do, not a bad thing but battery life + fan noise is big concern with that much power
@TRX25EX yeah and how useful is that. Base? Reason why they upped ti to 13 min for the x. They'll likely make a z2e base off the new gpus and that's how they'll get their 13-28 or whatever people claim to paly their ally at when we all know 15 is the minimum realistically unless playing super light titles. Edit: as well, noted much by everyone else gpu performance is negligible past 28w. As posted in the video cards article and referenced. So...your point, get to it?
@@WinDeckTech Z2E won't use 800 series iGPU, it will skip this gen due to negligible benefit in doing so, they will go for 900 series of IGPU.... 12 CU is not much greater than 12CU of 780M, and 16 CU as I mentioned need power and alot more power, Z1 beats Z1E at 10W due to same reason, these iGPU have minimum power requirement to become usable and 16CU can't be usable at 15W or 20W which these handhelds use So that's definitely out of question, the new 880M and 890M are not much more efficient they just add more performance at more power requirements, they are made to be used in laptops than hand-helds
And you have exclusive insider knowledge of this? No where does it state that these chips were designed for 54 or 48 wattage whatever you claim it to be. The 7840u chips are the e act same in that they go in general purpose laptops and thin and lights. They get their tdp dictated by the mfg. You'll still get plenty of power our of a 28w 16cu chip. The 12 cu is a nice option and a minor improvement over the 780m however much like the z1 and z1e I fully expect to see similar considerations. And after the poor sales of the z1 chips they'll likely not cut them down that much again unless big improvements are made to low end tdp performance. Ally 2 or whatever the next gen chips will be will not skip and keep the 780 I'm sure.
i think it's awesome there's so much comepetition. i have the oled deck. but valve really needs to release steam os, so other handhelds can use it. i generally play older games and indie games or double a type stuff. but i will absolutely no play any game under 40 fps. and i would like to play helldivers 2 and bodycam. but i will wait for the steam deck 2 or something else awesome.
Hello sir, ask for suggestions: (sry for my bad English) I have gaming laptop, but don't have any handheld. So for now, which one better? Steam deck (not official), ally/ally x (official) Steam deck lcd (64gb or more?) Steam deck oled Ally Ally X (cost 1,5 more than sd oled) Which one better?
Depending on what you are looking for in a handheld, if battery life is no concern rog ally og for more power or og* steam deck used, you can get one for super cheap. Or if you need the* battery life I would suggest the SD OLED over the Ally X only if for the pricing difference. In my personal order with a gaming laptop, I would say ROG Ally->SD OG->SD OLED->Ally X The reasoning for that order is solely based on pricing and you not needing necessarily the absolute best visual display on your handheld. Hope that helps. Your English is great no worries there! Edit: * sp
it's so tempting for me - someone who has always felt that the meager 16gb was not enough, especially for games with mods. But I think I will wait for a later generation machine.
With the next gen chips releasing later next month, more mfg's will pick them up and hopefully we will see more of them in laptops towards winter 2024 and in more handhelds/mainstream handhelds (if they used cutdown chips again) early to mid 2025
Maybe, But if they don't make enough money and people don't buy these handhelds they won't come out with a rog 2. If you want something to be released you have to support the company who's releasing it
Great information in the video and it is good to understand the points brought up before considering whether the ally x is right for you. We have tackled this very debate on the podcast so it is refreshing to have these points here in another video that you have made for us. The refreshes for these handhelds or next models within the series line are happening more frequently. In less than months there is talk already about the next one coming. The span between June 2023 and the present in 2024 has shown that for us. The challenge has been for Asus to release an updated handheld while keeping the price below that of a luxury handheld, which are a little more approximately than $1,000 depending on specs. You make the analogy that handhelds are releasing like new iPhones and yeah I do see the meaning in that. Some companies too even more frequently than one a year. Keep on keepin’ on WinDeckTech!
I don't mind the tick-tock style of upgrading "reg vs s" mods. But, I do think these handheld manufacturers (everyone not just asus) are headed fast towards oversaturation. Much like how phone makers saw declines in sales over the past few years (when phones started to regularly be 1k plus) I fully expect for people to get burnt out of handhelds and "this one versus this one". At some point we just need to enjoy what we have, so we can play some damn games haha. But, I guess it's never bad to have options
@@WinDeckTechI agree. People can easily get overwhelmed trying to make sure to get the right one for them. The overlap with the hardware is high and the software is a known distinction too as you know and we have talked about on the podcast.
The strix point is 90 a 110 watt Apu and the Ryzen 9 8945HS has A TDP of 45 W that is way to high for a handheld. we would go back to 50 mins run time.
I mean, my testing is in line with what ltt was saying (5-10%) versus the ally x and og. This was quite heavily replicated with the Legion Go vs Rog charts I shared as well. This, in my humble opinion, is due more to the RAM speed difference, not the capacity (which is a major focus point for some) battery life is an absolute godsend and this cannot be argued. However, I believe my point still holds of the device not being a gamechanger vs the OG. Thank you for the comment :)
I want to upgrade to the Ally X because of the increase in battery life. My Ally is slowly getting less and less battery life. The increase in memory and speed is nice but not important unless I am modding games. The big improvement over my Ally is the 2280 SSD. I can put a 4 TB in there and they're less expensive per TB than 2230 SSD. P.s. Big 👍 for helping the doggo's.
Yeah it's one of those things that's sure there are a lot of good upgrades for it, and for those people that weren't impressed by the og's life etc, this will be a good upgrade for them. Do you dabble in egpu? Or would you be more interested in checking it out now that there is tb4? The ram would be a nice help with that. 2280 is a big get and I can only.hope that all mfgs fit them in their devices. If the ayaneo air 1 s could do it in a much smaller chassis. There was no reason for the og ally to have a shorter one
You could have bought a $15 90degree adapter and put a 2280 ssd in the Ally. Granted 2280 slot and usb4 should have been default in Ally . The X should have been what the Ally was in the first place but it also goes to show how quickly competition can make a company upgrade its product to keep up .....unless you're called Apple and can keep selling crap to your customers regardless.
I have the Ally and I'm not upgrading to the X. Right now, I feel that there are too many compromises in the handheld market. The Ally is good, as is the Steam Deck and Legion Go, but you are giving up a lot for portability. For me, It's not worth it. And I say that as someone where cost isn't a factor. The overall performance, the amount of tweaking that has to be done is more than I want to be doing. So, for me, I'm likely to get a new laptop and sell the old Ally. I was hopeful that the XG gpus would come down in price, but now with ASUS seemingly moving away from that I don't see how I can get more out of my Ally without spending way too much for the XG. For the same $3K for the Ally, XG and accessories I can get a nice 4080 laptop which will cover my needs better.
Yeah that is the real unfortunate truth of the XG system, i believe they are going to move fully away from it, as evident by the Ally X. Be curious to see if the Flow lineup of laptops change as well. I think the Ally OG on sale price right now at best buy open box is legit though if you dont have a handheld.
@@WinDeckTech Sure, there will be deals on OG Allys, and maybe from me. LOL. I do think you have to really want to be mobile otherwise, I'm not sure any handheld is worth it right now.
Dbrand has the Rog ally x case for preorder now and you under sale the ram bump for raw fps 10 percent isn’t big but the major stutters will completely disappear at least the ones caused by ram starving that’s a massive improvement
Most games won't experience that, however. In games where they are starving for ram yes it will improve. You can mimick the behavior obviously by dropping it down to something dumb like 1gb or 2gb vram but to be honest I find the games that eat vram and require more than 6gb are few and far between. One of the few titles I can find (at least that I own and play) are the recent Gears releases on PC and some other "bespoke" UE4 titles. Another example of needing vram and sys ram would be Diablo 4 as iirc the ultra or high settings require or heavily recommend 32gb of sys ram and I think at least 12gb of vram? That would be a perfect example of the stuttering felt with the texture resolution being set too high, but at the same time you absolutely do not need 4k quality assets in a 7 inch form factor which is typically running upscaling of some sort. I truly do believe the bigger benefit of having the higher RAM cap is still to just be able to set and forget at 8gb vram, which in turn would lead to smoother experiences when actually needed but not negatively retracting from performance when not required.
@@WinDeckTech not vram as much but actual system ram games like fortnite can gobble up 16 gigs on the cpu side without even accounting for gpu vram and stutters like mad I switched to 32 gigs and boom buttery smooth and going forward this will become a bigger and bigger issue so the vram bump in speed and size will massively help with NEW games coming out ue5 absolutely destroys system ram and 10 gigs isn’t enough and the stutters are horrible the fact any of the handhelds are shipping with 16 gigs of total memory is insane and no where near enough for new games
thank you for the informations! there are many things that can be improved, like a kickstand, at least 8 inch screen etc. i cant wait how the msi claw 8 with the new intel chip will compare to the amd handhelds
i love the steam deck oled, but i there are 2 games i would like to play that i can't and that is helldivers 2 and bodycam. but i'm willing to wait a couple years for the steam deck 2. i'm now so used to having those 4 buttons on the back for jumping/running/action button/crouching/special ability and stuff like that, so i don't have to let go of the joysticks, and using gyro for aiming in fps and 3rd person action games. but i generally play older games. and intersting indie stuff, or double a. so the steam deck is a great fit for me personally. but i would maybe o for a windows device if the performance to price ratio is alluring, but windows on a handheld seems like alot of extra work with updates and all. and windows becoming more and more like spyware with each version, i think linux is the future of personal pc's.
For what it is worth, my Wife prefers the ROG Ally much more than the Steam Deck. Mainly because of familiarity and she did cite the power being noticeably better. (from a non pc gamer perspective) I personally love my SD OLED and I don't see another handheld that comes close to what it can do (OLED, Battery Life, Ease of Use, etc) its not the most powerful, but it is a high benchmark to beat.
I’m selling my ally for the x for me the extra ram and cooling seems to be built for this system my sd card hasn’t broke but I play on just performance mode because I’m scared to crank it up because it gets so hot. And I noticed that even though games run well on the og games that have presets like re2 and 3 tell you it’s based on the ram you have for graphics so I figured more ram and cooler system better performance at all preset more comfortably second the storage and the comfort of the design being able to customize your storage based on your needs is great. The grip and the triggers and buttons are just extra. The battery is a plus just to not have to plug if I don’t want too it cool to say I keep mine plug in but it would be nice to not every once and a while and last the black man it really makes the screen pop more and seem more uniformed looking at it already make mine look outdated. If this well the last one for a couple of years I rather just jump now
I sold my ROG ally to get the X, but im rethinking it right now, they didn't slap an oculink port. I'd be pretty much stuck waiting until Thunderbolt 5 rolls out, so i can strap a decent egpu.
The one thing that xg has over Oculink is that you can hot plug it, not as seamlessly as thunderbolt, but you don't need to power it down still. Gpd has been working on Hotplug, but you need to go with gpd... Also, remember the ally will bottleneck hard with a good GPU depending on the title. On my Legion I regularly can't get over 60 fps in Palworld with an egpu just due to the CPU overhead of the game, on a dedicated server. I think if you do want super easy hot plug-and-play, tb4 on the ally x is still a nice but limiting option, at least you can get more variety/power considerations. Another person had mentioned they hook up their 1080ti to their Lego which I think would be an awesome combo.
@WinDeckTech they make a m.2 oculink adapter, but you lose the memory slot. When you say i need to go GDP, do you mean an egpu or the actual handheld console? I've checked out the GDP, but i don't know, seems sketchy cause it's Chinese independent company. And is the 40gbps transfer speed on the thunderbolt 4 fast enough to enjoy gameplay?
Using my Steam Deck since release made me realize what my dream PC would be. A windows on ARM (Snapdragon) OLED tablet that can play games with top of the line integrated GPU, a sandwich controller and a connection fast enough (usb 4 probably) to use an external GPU. May be in 5 years, it is gonna exist.
kind ofagree but for me it would be linux. but then again i only game and browse the web. but windows now with co pilot seems to become like spyware more and more. and the telemitry running in the background. ads in your home windows menu. i think windowsis becoming a data mining company first, and software company second.
@@pablieto-veganson I see your point but Linux for me is flawed in too many areas namely: -Modding games is a nightmare, -Streaming services hate Linux, - Anti-Cheat compatibility is inconsistent.
@@vincentgagnon8569 i think with the mods thing, if linux becomes alot more popular because of proton with the steam deck i think there will be a growing community for the modding scene.
@@WinDeckTech nah the intel chips just aren't as effecient and don't deliver as much performance for the same TDP. from what i've seen it's only at the highest power draw (30 TDP or higher) that the intel chips sometimes outperform AMD.
Bro the regular ally z1 extreme has better performance than the LeGo. There are countless videos showing this. The only thing the Lego is better at is screen and battery
I would say that it will perform more in line with it, with it being more stable in vram heavy games which will be fee and far between. It will not obliterate ally x or Legion Go though. It may end up beating the Legion in some titles but in others it should be mostly the same due to ram speed
Same would be said if people got the OLED they wanted for the Ally. The next-gen battery life and APU shrink as well as a proper HDR OLED screen is a great half-step upgrade. If the Ally came with an OLED and better per-watt performance with battery life, maybe. You lose the superior eGPU link speed and gain an extra USB-C; you get a heavier device as a result to try and match the better life. There are way more reasons to go with a Steam Deck OLED than an Ally X. (When speaking of upgrading from their base) You'll get ro bypass the limits of certain games needing 16 gb sys ram and 8gb vram however even at the best of times those titles are a mess. If anything, sell the Ally to fund the X, but I'd wait for the inevitable price plummet like the OG if you must. Then grab ally 2 next year or whatever other laptop maker is in the space.
@@WinDeckTech are you kidding me, the Ally still ended up with a better refresh rate and vrr on a landscape screen, better battery life, and the processor still out performs the deck. Your bias is clear. 😂😂😂😂 you sound like a Sony pony gunning for Xbox.
Hardly but okay. The screen is not "better" 90hz is a thing on the SD oled you know. The processor indeed does not outperform the ally or any other chip at low watt performance. It's fine to want the Ally X but please don't fool yourself into thinking it is something it's not. Edit: steam deck and ally are two different devices in my eyes. Each have their benefits. Sorry you can't pull your head out of your ass to see beyond your own bias...
@@WinDeckTech the jump from the regular steam deck to the OLED was far less than the jump from the regular ally to the X. You can believe what you want.

I'd say yes, unless you value a good deal more, and can snag the OG on an open box or market place deal. I have seen them as low as 250 at best buy. But, if you don't have one already and are okay paying full price, I would say yes it is a worthwhile purchase

It should be the same, they've advertised a max of 28 or default. But unlockers should still work but with the range going up to 54 I believe it was? They did say 15-54 but again you should be able to configure it lower or the mfgs will include it.
I completely forgot to mention that because I'm sure it will be decisive because there are people like us who have the xg but then for everyone else I'm sure they're happy to see the more affordable egpu options via tb, albeit at bandwidth cost
Yup, I still have my 3080, and is now essentially my wife's gaming setup. Granted TB is easier but those that have xg's are on ice. I fully expect this to be the last time we see the XG unfortunately.. prices will drop
That zotac one looks great minus the screen only 7in and them being too late and not just waiting on 3.5, if this those dials can control tdp and fan speed that would be amazing. I really like the what xpg is doing but it’s ugly af and I think only 7” too. What I really want is pretty much the oxp x1 mini with the new chip but made by a company with better support. In conclusion 😂 my dream handheld would be a 8” plus screen (oled even better), detachable controllers and keyboard attachment and camm2 (or at least a sodimm slot) and at least a 65wh battery, wide kickstand and those zotac dials would be nice too lol
Totally get the wanting a oxp without the onex lmfao. 100% I'm totally stoked for the dials on the zotac, it's one of those things that seems like a simple idea/thought* but will be a gamechanger. I'd be surprised if we couldn't control all dial type functions on the device (brightness, volume, tdp) im sure there will be other uses for sure. But this will be the kick off of the copycat era haha, if others don't start doing stuff like that, they are at a big disadvantage. Xpg looks ugly AF but also looks super comfy haha.. also, am I the only one that thinks thr zotac looks a bit like a batwing? *edit typo
@@WinDeckTechlol I actually love the batwing look of the zotac I was really excited for it but I was needing something I could use as a tablet and little laptop so I bought a used oxp2 since they are pretty cheap, wasn’t planning on using it for any gaming but once I used that 8.4in screen I just can’t play on my ally anymore even though it’s more powerful. Maybe I would be fine with a 16:10 7in but 16:9 7in is just to small and that’s even with booting into playnite and never messing with windows
@WuFluChan sorry!! Missed the initial reply but that's very, very good news :) I do love the oxp devices and what they have going but still like you said they crave better support. Will be very interesting to see the new igpus in action
@@WinDeckTechyeah I’m just glad to actually have a time frame now. The x1 mini does meet the criteria for pretty much everything I want from a handheld so if nothing else better comes along I just might go for it. I personally don’t mind getting my updates from pinned discord comments lol but at these prices that’s just unacceptable and to expect that from the average user is crazy. I mean if you can’t spend a day making a better update page atleast make the updates available on Reddit too lol
This is just a speculation video. Even if AMD announced a new chip there is no word on a new handheld with said chip. Lets all just take this guys word for it i guess?
If you have the OG ally, stick with it. Great device. The Go is also a fantastic device as well, both have issues but have been worked on over time. If going into it without any device, you'll have to weigh those options. I'd say waiting for the next gen of chips will be the move though if you have either the Lego or ally currently.
Ok, it'll be rather hard to do my daily living going mute until then, but if taking a vow of silence works for the monks, I guess it's good enough for me. For real though... performance Will not be miles better suddenly because of the existence of more RAM. It will be lauded while the real reason will be veiled. The only thing the Ally has going for it is the dual USB C, faster charging (with still a 65w in the box..), and battery life. Grab a 100w capable battery pack and it will be infinitely more beneficial than spending another 899 plus tax (over 1k CAD before tax) for "triple" (double and a bit) the life on the X. I'm not against the Ally X, but I think they missed the mark on what consumers wanted in a pro-style device. At least give us a charger in the box that's capable of giving a full cap charge. IMO there are more reasons not to get the Ally X than for. If you don't have a handheld already, I'd say grab a cheap OG Ally and enjoy the benefit of a still great device for what it is. Software updates keep coming and improving that experience. Warranty work, however, eh? Even with the m.2 2280 on the x, people are going to dump the 1 TB and throw in a 4 TB at an increased cost vs even what was paid for the smaller ones found. Memory/storage pricing is insane these days. Granted that's a one-time investment but costly.
I think people are ridiculous when selling used handhelds. They want like $20 less than the new ones😂😂😂 why would I buy a steam deck for $400 when I can buy a new one or even a new non extreme rog ally. If I was to buy a used handheld it would be like $250 max😂😂😂 I'm definitely waiting for the ally 2. Till then my ally works perfectly fine especially with 6tb storage.
@TheFunesk if the seller is selling a used ally with 2tb for $500 that's a reasonable price. If you buy it from best buy you it comes with 512gb ssd and if you plan on upgrading it to a bigger ssd that will be $100 or more.
Honestly, unless I'm seated with my wife with a charger. The SD OLED is my go-to on the go and even at home as well for most games I play that are not super high-end modern releases. Still a great handheld and smart for Valve to iterate on it how they did.
Apple need to launch an 8"-9" handheld. Imagine the M4 chip powering an OLED handheld gaming console! holy hell. It would be able to play games at the highest quality, and allow for 24 hour play-time on a single charge. In the meantime I think i'll be getting an Ally X.
Yeah might as well wait untill your 80 years old to play, So you can save a couple bucks😂
So you still validated what I said? Wait for the Pro end chips to release late this year early next 890m for higher end and boutique Chinese 870m for z1e competitor.
he's a decker they all say dont buy something else besides a steam deck
They'll always be something more powerful coming out. That's tech, non video.
@@WinDeckTechwhere did AMD say they will release 890m iGPU handheld socs?
Your assuming they will and even if they will, there will probably be better versions of the APU by the same time next year.
I will be selling my Ally for an X. For me I always wanted more memory and a usb4 slot for my old 1080ti, so this will be a purchase for me.
I hope you enjoy it!! 1080ti is the real GOAT of that story!
Should make for a great tv dock experience
@@WinDeckTech Absolutely, I'm looking forward to checking it out.
Same boat 🎉👍🏼
i will buy too for the color especially
How do you use a 1080ti with ally?
@@WinDeckTech those are Chinese Company they have a Lot's of option to Cut cost like Subsidy and other fishy stuff!!!
Those are also power hungry as well so we'd be right back to having short battery life
I don’t know why we assume there will be a stripped z2 chip as well lol
if the pice is better than a gaming laptop might be the best option for you. but i just love gaming with a hand held on the bed in the evening, and then watching some videos with a redlight filter and i can still fall asleep no problem.
Good point here
How about if I already have a regular STEAM DECK? I am tempted to get the ally because I can't pay fifa on my deck.
@XGARXS I have both ally better ..but fifa isn't really run great on this device...but it's ok
@@tirion7180 mmm do you think it'll run better on a legion go?
@XGARXS my friend own go..and from my experience yea a little better (I think 1200p low details)looks good ..but 1080p on 7 inch ally display is ok .....I think biggest question is how big handheld/display u prefer and for extra bucks lenovo give u few more fps an little better resolution..but overall not big difference
A 30% improvement is not worthwhile and not next gen. It is quite obvious these handhelds will be upgraded in 2026
Sorry, 30% is not a substantial upgrade and is not next gen worthy?

Pre-ordered the X and put my Ally up for sale.
Mine died yesterday haha. Currently being rma'd, battery stopped taking any charge.
@@WinDeckTech the x died?
start to notice the pc handheld scenes is slowly becoming like the smartphone scene.
I don't think we will see major revisions except for the msi claw and the new versions of 8840u handhelds this year.
Thanks bro! I just canceled my X and picked up an OG Ally Z1E.
My bad dude. My z1E had defective sticks and I returned it. Ended up ordering the X… :(
@@2buckgeo843 Hahahahaha
That is false, it has been confirmed to have a base* of 28w tdp but a config of 15-54w
*edit sp very similar to current gen they do not need 45 min
12 CU is not much greater than 12CU of 780M, and 16 CU as I mentioned need power and alot more power, Z1 beats Z1E at 10W due to same reason, these iGPU have minimum power requirement to become usable and 16CU can't be usable at 15W or 20W which these handhelds use
So that's definitely out of question, the new 880M and 890M are not much more efficient they just add more performance at more power requirements, they are made to be used in laptops than hand-helds
I don't have an ally, so this will be my first handheld/portpc. It sounds great, so will buy.
Perfect, I do hope you enjoy it. Great time to get in with a great device for first timers

Hello sir, ask for suggestions: (sry for my bad English)
I have gaming laptop, but don't have any handheld.
So for now, which one better?
Steam deck (not official), ally/ally x (official)
Steam deck lcd (64gb or more?)
Steam deck oled
Ally
Ally X (cost 1,5 more than sd oled)
Which one better?
Depending on what you are looking for in a handheld, if battery life is no concern rog ally og for more power or og* steam deck used, you can get one for super cheap.
Or if you need the* battery life I would suggest the SD OLED over the Ally X only if for the pricing difference.
In my personal order with a gaming laptop, I would say ROG Ally->SD OG->SD OLED->Ally X
The reasoning for that order is solely based on pricing and you not needing necessarily the absolute best visual display on your handheld. Hope that helps. Your English is great no worries there!

Sounds good thanks for the algo hit!
it's so tempting for me - someone who has always felt that the meager 16gb was not enough, especially for games with mods. But I think I will wait for a later generation machine.
I think personally it's the safer option or more "economical" unless you value usb 4 and larger battery so much so that you require it
It makes sense to wait cause next gen is gonna be a huge improvement but how long is it going to take to get a Ally 2 released?
With the next gen chips releasing later next month, more mfg's will pick them up and hopefully we will see more of them in laptops towards winter 2024 and in more handhelds/mainstream handhelds (if they used cutdown chips again) early to mid 2025
You mean, lunalake Intel ?
Maybe, But if they don't make enough money and people don't buy these handhelds they won't come out with a rog 2.
If you want something to be released you have to support the company who's releasing it
Totally agree. Instead of getting x, I decided to get xgm 3080. Now I have a super ally. :).
How's the bank account :( lol
Seriously though, how's the pricing these days, did you get one off a local marketplace sale?
@@WinDeckTech yes. Like new condition worth $900.
@@WinDeckTech now my bank account is zero balance. :)
There is a 16cu version of the Z1 extremely they could have used and it would have improved performance significantly.
But the ally z1 leaves performance on the table because of it's small bus width and insufficient ram speeds.
More CU's wouldn't make a difference
😂😂😂
Blah blah blah you dont have it so this is just blah blah blah
All handhelds NEED a kickstand!!
i love the steam deck oled, but i there are 2 games i would like to play that i can't and that is helldivers 2 and bodycam. but i'm willing to wait a couple years for the steam deck 2. i'm now so used to having those 4 buttons on the back for jumping/running/action button/crouching/special ability and stuff like that, so i don't have to let go of the joysticks, and using gyro for aiming in fps and 3rd person action games.
but i generally play older games. and intersting indie stuff, or double a. so the steam deck is a great fit for me personally.
but i would maybe o for a windows device if the performance to price ratio is alluring, but windows on a handheld seems like alot of extra work with updates and all. and windows becoming more and more like spyware with each version, i think linux is the future of personal pc's.
Really really hoping for snapdragon/arm on windows to take off. The early laptop systems seem very very promising
kind ofagree but for me it would be linux. but then again i only game and browse the web. but windows now with co pilot seems to become like spyware more and more. and the telemitry running in the background. ads in your home windows menu. i think windowsis becoming a data mining company first, and software company second.
@@pablieto-veganson I see your point but Linux for me is flawed in too many areas namely: -Modding games is a nightmare, -Streaming services hate Linux, - Anti-Cheat compatibility is inconsistent.

Id say it worth trading it in and paying the difference for a more polished version with better aesthetics

Absolutely. I'm still rooting for the MSI Claw refresh however, I really really want them to succeed (intel)
@@WinDeckTech nah the intel chips just aren't as effecient and don't deliver as much performance for the same TDP. from what i've seen it's only at the highest power draw (30 TDP or higher) that the intel chips sometimes outperform AMD.

Absolutely, unless you are looking to save some money then a used or even new on discount OG Ally is a good buy
So in your opinion , the ally x will have roughly the same performance as the LeGo?
Bro the regular ally z1 extreme has better performance than the LeGo. There are countless videos showing this. The only thing the Lego is better at is screen and battery
Not as of late
I would say that it will perform more in line with it, with it being more stable in vram heavy games which will be fee and far between.
It will not obliterate ally x or Legion Go though. It may end up beating the Legion in some titles but in others it should be mostly the same due to ram speed
@@BuffaloFanatic716 odd all the videos I see show the Lenovo legion Go tide or passing the Ally extreme due to its RAM speed
U: don’t buy the X cuz it’s not a gen leap
Also u: BUY THE STEAM DECK OLED! (Even though that is also not a gen leap)
Girl, are u drunk?
Same would be said if people got the OLED they wanted for the Ally. The next-gen battery life and APU shrink as well as a proper HDR OLED screen is a great half-step upgrade.
If the Ally came with an OLED and better per-watt performance with battery life, maybe. You lose the superior eGPU link speed and gain an extra USB-C; you get a heavier device as a result to try and match the better life.
There are way more reasons to go with a Steam Deck OLED than an Ally X. (When speaking of upgrading from their base)
You'll get ro bypass the limits of certain games needing 16 gb sys ram and 8gb vram however even at the best of times those titles are a mess.

Where he got the 1.4 from I think is the amount of hours you need to play before you realize you made a big mistake.

What if the person who don't have a Rog ally.. Buy is Worth it right..?
I'd say yes, unless you value a good deal more, and can snag the OG on an open box or market place deal. I have seen them as low as 250 at best buy.
But, if you don't have one already and are okay paying full price, I would say yes it is a worthwhile purchase
@@WinDeckTech I really looking forward for this Ally x..I can't plaay with my brother Laptop, a lot of lag But idk if this will be available in India also the Price is so high, i have to make some to buy this rog ally x...

@@WinDeckTech thanks, i was commenting in YT Shorts, idk how my comment ended up here 😂
Dont get the Rog Ally x but wait for the Rog Ally XXX cause ot come with a free subscription of you know ;)
I am waiting for Legion Go 2 probably
Based on AMD withholding the tdp range this chip is likely going to be too power hungry for a handheld.
It should be the same, they've advertised a max of 28 or default. But unlockers should still work but with the range going up to 54 I believe it was? They did say 15-54 but again you should be able to configure it lower or the mfgs will include it.
Not being able to use my xg mobile with the rog ally x sealed the deal for me
I completely forgot to mention that because I'm sure it will be decisive because there are people like us who have the xg but then for everyone else I'm sure they're happy to see the more affordable egpu options via tb, albeit at bandwidth cost
They did it because most people hated it and the cost.
This and not having a larger screen option as well.
I have the XG Mobile so the ROG ally x is useless to me not having the xg mobile port
Yup, I still have my 3080, and is now essentially my wife's gaming setup. Granted TB is easier but those that have xg's are on ice. I fully expect this to be the last time we see the XG unfortunately.. prices will drop
@@WinDeckTech price might go up due to how rear the xg mobile is also.
I'm totally stoked for the dials on the zotac, it's one of those things that seems like a simple idea/thought* but will be a gamechanger.
@@WinDeckTechgot word from a very credible source that oxp with 890m will be oct/nov
@WuFluChan sorry!! Missed the initial reply but that's very, very good news :)
I do love the oxp devices and what they have going but still like you said they crave better support.
Ayaneo and gpd surely will and already laptops are coming. May not be a main stream MFG but someone will
I see I no sure I buy with ally x or no I just buy with legion go and just wait with ally 2
If you have the OG ally, stick with it. Great device. The Go is also a fantastic device as well, both have issues but have been worked on over time. If going into it without any device, you'll have to weigh those options. I'd say waiting for the next gen of chips will be the move though if you have either the Lego or ally currently.
Doesn’t have one but “hear me out though l”. Nope lol
@@waltmabry6453 still got the comment ;)
Please open your mouth when you have one.
Right lol. I've sold quite a few and I'm blown away at competitive offers asking for the same or more than MSRP
@TheFunesk if the seller is selling a used ally with 2tb for $500 that's a reasonable price. If you buy it from best buy you it comes with 512gb ssd and if you plan on upgrading it to a bigger ssd that will be $100 or more.
Am waiting for another legion go
already pre ordered, sorry lol😊
Haha no worries!! May I ask if you had the OG Ally or if this will be your first? Genuinely curious about people's upgrade reasons. :)
It only worth $699
I have sd oled. Cant lie the ally x is tempting. But i think i'll wait for true next gen. Ally 2 or sd 2
If you need 24 hours of gaming I think you should go touch some grass asap 🤣
No Dock, NO DEAL.
There is an ally package deal on ebay with a Dock;)
Steam deck oled all the way
I came here to hear about rog ally not dogs
Good thing I put a big convenient timestamp and timeline accordingly. Sorry you are too lazy to skip?
