I became a US Citizen on August 23. At the ceremony, as we waited on the judge to arrive, they played every imaginable song relating to American patriotism. They forgot this wonderful, classic Diamond hit....

It always amazes the daylights out of me how people talk down about this country yet in many parts of the world people will leave everything behind to come here and in some parts of the world they even risk their very lives to come here.
Sure we have our faults but to have more people want to move here than to leave here must mean we are doing something right.

On September 26, 1972, as a 7-year-old orphan boy from South Korea, I didn’t what the future would be for me. In the poignant words, “On the boats and on the planes, they’re coming to America” has meaning for me as well as many others that arrived here. My “Ellis Island” was John F. Kennedy International Airport on board Northwest Airline Jet Originating at Kimpo, Seoul.
Yes, my beloved country has faults and other things. I love her with all the imperfections! She opened doors for me, a stateless Amerasian Boy, that wasn’t even acknowledged by the South Korean Government. I was given my personhood and recognized for who I AM AND NOT WHAT ANCESTOR I HAVE! I was given legal recognition and proud to have become an American Citizen on April 7, 1978. When does someone ask who am I? I say AMERICAN and with no qualifiers.
As a citizen, I joined the U.S. Army and served in 2 major wars (Gulf War-1991 and Iraq War-2004-2005) in Iraq. I rose up in rank because WHAT I COULD DO AND BE DAMNED ABOUT WHO WAS MY ANCESTOR!
On April 15, 2018, for the first time in my life, I met my birth father in Ohio! With him were my birth half-sister, 2 paternal aunts, and cousin. My birth father's family knew I existed and only on February 23, 2018, I knew of their existence.
I am in the land of my biological fathers-the USA! There isn’t anywhere in the world, I want to be and at the end of my life in the greatest place in the world- UNITED STATES OF AMERICA!

Neil Diamond (born in 1941) is celebrating his 77th birthday today January 24, 2018. He is one of America’s most enduring songwriters best known for his singalong hits “Sweet Caroline” and “Cracklin’ Rosie,” it was announced Monday that he has Parkinson’s disease, and is retiring from concert touring as a result of the diagnosis.

  • @survivrs
    @survivrs 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

This is from "The Jazz Singer". That was a good movie, but the soundtrack is awesome!! Sir Laurence Olivier played his role well, and it was great to see him witness that his son was meant to be more than a cantor. I hope Neil continues to write music, and I pray that his Parkinson's doesn't stop him from singing.

My son MICHAEL-JULIEN SANTINI was born as this song played in the background.
    AMERICA
    Neil Diamond
    Far
    We've been traveling far
    Without a home
    But not without a star
    Free
    Only want to be free
    We huddle close
    Hang on to a dream
On the boats and on the planes
    They're coming to America
    Never looking back again
    They're coming to America
Home, don't it seem so far away
    Oh, we're traveling light today
In the eye of the storm
In the eye of the storm
Home, to a new and a shiny place
Make our bed, and we'll say our grace
    Freedom's light burning warm
    Freedom's light burning warm
    Everywhere around the world
    They're coming to America
    Every time that flag's unfurled
    They're coming to America
Got a dream to take them there
    They're coming to America
Got a dream they've come to share
    They're coming to America
    They're coming to America
    They're coming to America
    They're coming to America
    They're coming to America
    Today, today, today, today, today
    My country 'tis of thee
    Today
    Sweet land of liberty
    Today
    Of thee I sing
    Today
    Of thee I sing

Freedom to be who we are.... and be united under three colors. Friends of all. Enemies to the cruel. And never ever turning away.... from doing what’s right.

This is one of the greatest songs about America ever written, but it does not talk about the legacy of establishing America as the great nation it is, the nation that people from all over the world want to come to. The Star Spangled Banner speaks of the sacrifice of men, women, and children who came to our shores and fought for the right for America to exist without a foreign despot or government ruling Americans. The Star Spangled Banner speaks of the shedding of American blood and those who fought for our country.

For Ruth, her kids, her mother, brothers and sisters, for her father who never got to come to America.
I (born and raised in America) always got to set aside my pessimism for a few moments on July 4th, as the fireworks started around "A" Mountain, in Tucson. All of the patriotic songs on that day were just... songs. But... BUT... when THIS song would start, over the radios of the cars gathered there, I'd look to Ruth. This song means the world to me. It meant the world to her. I could see this song lived out in front of me, in her eyes, as she would cherish this song as it played. It is very difficult to explain the feelings I had during those times. She and her family came from the Philippines, after years of waiting, and working through all the red tape. On July 4th, this song was embodied in her. On my own, I had lost faith in America. Through her, I've had it restored, because I could always see what it meant to her. This song is more than simply words. It reflects the hopes and dreams of millions... both in the past, and on into the future.
    Bless you, Mr. Diamond!

Have you got the paperwork started? That's the first step. Remember in America dreams can come true. But you have to take that first step to get here. And you're never too old and it's never too late. It's good law-abiding people like you we need. But don't give up on the proper channels. What you start it will continue and eventually you will see that glorious lady standing in the harbor welcoming you with all the freedoms that come with her and all the dreams that she's held for Millions. It can happen you just have to believe. I believe in you! It's worth all the trouble time trials and paperwork but you eventually do get to the end of the rainbow!

Neil Diamond is an inspirational singer in my opinion. His songs are all uplifting as well as just awesome. This song is just one of our Anthem Songs... I mean, it fits everyone and no one should call it their own... I believe he wrote it for everyone! All of us have ancestors which came from another land... even the American Indians's ancestors came across the Bearing Srait... (may have not spelled it correctly) but the point is, this song should be listened to by everyone from time to time to time toremind us.... "America is a very special place" in that we all strive to improve ourselves and deep down inside, we really care about everyone in the world and we have proven time and time again... we will return to our ancestors homeland to fight for their freedoms and liberties and we have proven millions of times - we will also die for them!

I’ve been a fan of Neil Diamond since the mid-60s. I absolutely love his voice and America is my favorite song. I agree with the sentiment of the song completely. However, we are a nation of laws and rules that all must obey. Consequently, my belief is that all immigrants must come to America legally. If you’re here legally than welcome aboard and good luck; I pray that you find what you are looking for.
I read somewhere that Diamond’s father didn’t want him to become an entertainer, the father thought that he was wasting his life. The elderly gentleman in the audience, first appearing at 0:54 in the third row with his right hand to his chin is Diamond’s father. The most beautiful sequence occurs at 2:20 when the father looks around at this huge audience and realizes that they’re applauding and cheering FOR MY BOY! And then at 3:48 the father is clapping and clearing singing “today.” I love it.

It's too bad, I just heard 6 days ago Neil Diamond announced that he would be cancelling the 2018 tour as he was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease and is hanging it up for all of his future live tours. :-( He was one of the very few I had decided I would go see in concert soon, however, between the greats such as himself , Pink Floyd and Tom Petty, IMy decision was made way too late and will never be able to see them due to their sicknesses, deaths, or just a retirement. It's unbelievable how many years he has toured, and performed with incredible success. God Bless Him & 50 Years Of Greatness !

My family came to America in 1620 on the Christian pilgrim ship Mayflower. I love the America sayings, IN GOD WE TRUST, ONE NATION UNDER GOD, GOD BLESS AMERICA. I love Jesus, both Neil Diamond and Jesus are Jewish. Jesus is returning soon, in 2014 and 2015 there are 4 blood moons on Jewish feast days, hardly happened in last 500 years and when it did major events took place,

That's interesting. What were the major events?

Jeff Theisen 911 was part of this, and the nation did not repent, 7 years later again the stock market crashed, use the Hebrew calendar and look for Sept 13 to 28, 2015 with a blood moon and the third 7 years. They are already talking of the GREAT CRASH of 2016 on the stock market. Jesus is coming very soon.

As Frederick Douglass said: "he is also a lover of his country who rebukes and does not excuse its sins." We complain because we expect better and want better. Too bad a large chunk wants to drive the country into a ditch and burn it for the insurance....

I served in the U.S.A.F. Pararescue ,for 16 years, alongside ALL immigrants some from Mexico, some from Africa, some from Israel some from Ireland ,some from England ...I think you get my point, and to all of my brothers in arms, both retired and in active duty I say thank you all for serving with me,for my country,my people, my freedom,my constitution.Do not forget that ,while we no longer wear the uniform of our prior service,we still are held to our original vow to protect our land, and our constitution from all enemies both foreign and domestic .

My Grandparents, Santo and Victoria, left Italy on a ship and arrived at Ellis Island in 1910. Their son, Julio, graduated with a doctorate from Harvard University. He was a President of four colleges. Julio and Alyce had three sons, a lawyer, a doctor and a minister. ONLY IN AMERICA!
