This song inspired me to live my American dream! My family came here in 1982 as refugees! Now we are Americans! I am living as Americans. I achieved my goals as an American! I love this country!

It really burns me how so many people, particularly young Americans, can tear down and protest this country, just nitpicking for every flaw they can find. Foreigners and citizens have more knowledge and appreciation for the USA than people who were born here. It's a sad statement on modern generations.

We have never stopped. We welcome more than one million immigrants to the United States every year.
But there is a limit to how many immigrants we can welcome at one time. Immigration has to be orderly and manageable. It has to be secure. Not just for Americans, but for the immigrants as well.
How much good would we be doing the immigrants who come here if there are no jobs for them? If there isn't enough housing for them? If they immigrate away from poverty, only to land in poverty, what good have we done them? The only beneficiary in that case are the criminals who are eager to take advantage of immigrants and exploit them.

Happy 4th of July America; We are fortunate- throughout our ups/downs. Never forget what it took to build 'America'; immigrants & slaves. Never forget the native peoples that our forefathers pushed to the fringes of society to establish America.

My late maternal grandfather came from Oslo, Norway after World War I when he was in the Norwegion Merchant Marine, he went to visit his aunt & uncle in the Bay Ridge section of the Borough of Brooklyn to visit, he worked for his uncle in his uncles bakery, learned English. He went home to visit his parents, when he go back to the U.S. at Ellis Island he had found out he was an illegal alien and he didn’t know till he was told. He had 2 options which were go back to Norway or go to Canada, he chose Canada where me met my late maternal grandmother in Niagara Falls, Ontarion,Canada. My maternal grandparents were immigrants, my late wife, oldest son & late daughter were immigrants from the Philippines in 1981. I met my late wife in 1975 when I was in the Navy. I married my late wife in 1979. We stayed married 31 years.

Note in all these clips how happy these people are. They're coming over on boats and ships, wanting to make a better life for themselves, but also improving their new home in the process. They brought new cultures with them but were also anxious to form part of the melting pot, merging those cultures to make America better. Learning English and blending into American culture while keeping their own languages and cultures intact was a point of pride. I hate it when people compare modern illegal aliens to the people depicted in this video. They're not the same at all.

I remember being a kid on holiday, I'm not sure if it was Cork, Kerry, or Galway but I remember being on a beach with my Da in front of the Atlantic and him saying "The next stop is America." That's always stuck with me. Now, it's easy to be cynical of this song but the way I interpret it is the people he's singing about are travelling to the IDEA of America. And for all the actual country's faults and flaws, that idea really did change the world. I don't believe that America as it is now is what the Founding Fathers envisioned. And that's good. Because it means it's still ahead of them.

Those who searched found a home . Those that didn't found refuge. America is what all of you made of her. She is what you searched for. Fight for what you found!Fight for what a country like this one is unique! She will protect your ideals.
