Mark Knopfler, Sting, Phil Collins, Eric Clapton, a full gospel range, an orchestra, just that? Damn this is such a massive bloody team for a song, how amazing to see the best 80s singers united
I know this is a couple years late, but see if you can find 'Music for Montserrat', which this is from. It was a concert hosted by George Martin featuring all the people who recorded at his studio on Montserrat, to raise money for the island after the volcano erupted.
Holy shit! When it kicks off and the crowd and band sync rhythms and then Phil drops those fill bombs to lead into the blazing classic riff of Knopflers riff for Money For Nothing, and surprisingly subtle yet solid and anchor rhythm lead double helixing between Mark and Eric, Sting wailing along on backup vocals. And a choir and orchestra to boot, what a band. Can’t imagine what it was like to hear and see this live.
That is one big band, definitely, with a few pretty damn good musicians playing this ditty. I never would have expected such a huge outfit, including dozens of backup singers and an orchestra in there, to deliver such a punch without overloading. Tons of fun.
This just makes me happy - the whole orchestra and groups of singers clapping and grooving, the entire audience too. What live entertainment is all about

The concert was a fundraiser for the inhabitants of the island, and featured a wide swath of world-class musicians with connections to Montserrat ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Music_for_Montserrat )

WOW! when was this? They all look so young. So much awesomeness in one arena. Thumbs up if you are listening to this in 2020 and Corona virus is making you stay home.....
There's a good story Knopfler tells about how he got the lyrics for this song: listening to a delivery man complaining about his lot, while in a store full of TVs all playing MTV. Knopfler says he didn't have to change much, from what he heard - he was crouching down with a pencil and paper just trying to get it all down. Shame the delivery guy wasn't credited...
This was in 1997, it was a charity concert for Montserrat (a small island that suffered a volcanic explosion which drove over 2/3 of the population off the island). A lot of great artists played to raise money.
This is the way it should be, serious musicians not being too serious, this music is fun and it's hard not to move your feet and have a smile on your face.

Two of the best guitar players ever playing together.....it dosen't happen very often that angels gather together and give us, mortals, such an amazing present!
What a great line up. I saw Dire Straits live at Wembley Arena in late 82 and Phil Collins at Knebworth park in 86. Queen were the main event, my favourite band since 1976. What a day that was. Amazing. Just amazing
Yep Susan. I've always thought that listening at Collins on drums you can get an idea about the difference from having a drummer and having a GREAT drummer.
There is a very good spirit behind this work. That’s what this guys transcend. And don’t forget Ray Cooper the percussionist. He is a fixture on this events. A concert for George being one of them.

Let's put it this way, if people studied Mark Knopfler there would be way better guitar players in music today. Don't get me wrong there are some great players these days but they lack that something special.
Mark runs on heavy fuel 🤘
don‘t_panic - That's not true. That's been known by a lot of people (another generation) for decades. Sting also co-wrote the song
Listening to this for the (n)th time... I just noticed how seamlessly each artist's style blends in - they are in perfect harmony and flowing together... (except for poor Sting, who's stuck on the side yelling for his TV lol)
Don't know how it took me so long to discover this, four legends of rock together. Absolutely incredible.
legostudios34 😂
legostudios34 yo también hasta ahora los descubrí. Ya somos 2.
Knopfler and Clapton are absolute legends, and they earned it.
So are Sting and Phil!
Orchestra people chillin in the background lowkey my fav part of this video
Those four are wild to watch. Like all four👍
I listen to this very often , enjoy it every time, great music, great singing. Thank you Mr. Knophler
Two of the best guitar players ever playing together.....it dosen't happen very often that angels gather together and give us, mortals, such an amazing present!
What else could you ask for when you got all the best artists performing with you! Amazing talent!
Possibly the best concert in history........and the finale just tops it.
Wow, maybe i cant get to concerts these days, but having these musicians throughout my life, is something to be proud of. A big wow. Wow. Wow!
Hello Jan
What a great line up. I saw Dire Straits live at Wembley Arena in late 82 and Phil Collins at Knebworth park in 86. Queen were the main event, my favourite band since 1976. What a day that was. Amazing. Just amazing
Hello Andrea
How are you doing today
This gathering of musical talents is JUST AWESOME! I wonder how there can be anyone on this planet that "dislikes" it....
2.1K at this point - I have no words 😲
This is living life out loud. What a gift to experience these magnificent artists all on one stage.
4 great rock legends on one stage performing a kick ass song---chills.
Phil on the drums!! Awesome!
yes he could leave or he could go he doesn't feel a thing down to his toes
Why does it always seem to be me looking at you, you looking at me? It's always the same!
Yep Susan.
I've always thought that listening at Collins on drums you can get an idea about the difference from having a drummer and having a GREAT drummer.
Angela Sluder that's a que to start your solo.
Real !
Knopfler killing it with his strings and voice - an unique talent to cherish and celebrate !!
There is a very good spirit behind this work. That’s what this guys transcend. And don’t forget Ray Cooper the percussionist. He is a fixture on this events. A concert for George being one of them.
