  • Stand up paddleboarding is the new cool thing to do, so Jack grabbed a board and saddled up an Axopar 37XC to see what all the fuss is about..
    Prices start at £131,000 (inc. VAT and twin 350hp outboard engines) but the boat we tested would set you back £240,000 (inc. VAT)

    Hi everyone,
    Apologies for the poor sound quality during the driving segment of this review. We used the Go Pro to film them and we can safely say that we won't be making that mistake again.
    If you want a detailed walkthrough video of the boat, there's a link to that in the description and we've put the prices for the boat we tested in there, too.
    We hope, despite the audio issues, you enjoy the video.

      Yes horses for courses as the saying goes, and to be fair most “on board” camera mikes are pretty poor. You can get good quality external mikes that will plug into some GoPro models - I have a small Rode directional one for example, or you could have used different footage and over dubbed what you wanted to say as you have done with the drone footage, but I guess it was realistic and good content as usual.

    The audio quality while underway is lacking, to put it mildly

    I said this before, but please invest in a proper microphone! The sound quality really lets these videos down.

    The office of the company is located in Finland, but the boat is made in Poland.

    The wetbar outside looks very useful. Also there seems to be plentiful of outside storage in this version of the boat. However if you choose the aftcabin version, you lose the wetbar and the lazarette. You don't seem to even mention the lack of storage space inside the boat. I think that is the most annoying part of the otherwise clever boat. I could consider this boat almost having it all if it had even just one easy to use storage locker inside the living space. Keeping your clothes and gear on the floor, on the bed or on the seats and moving them around out of your way is just not something you would want to do on a 37 foot boat. Even my 22 footer has a hanging locker and shelves.

    Good lord, the audio. You should cut that part out, or just cut the sound out of that part, and just talk over it.

    Lavalier mic with a dead cat and your sound problems would disappear. Provided of course that you are willing to invest in quality equipment and aren't viewing your youtube side of the business as a sidenote.

    • @PhilbyFavourites
      @PhilbyFavourites 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I like your thinking.
      Just for the non professional filmmakers amongst us, how much would that kit cost?

    • @nanomage
      @nanomage 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@PhilbyFavourites Lavalier mics comes plenty of sizes and differs wildly in quality, but generally you get better quality with increased price. "You get what you pay for" and all that.
      You could just buy a fairly cheap lav mic and attach it directly to your camera, cover it with a windscreen (known as a dead cat) and off you go.
      If you decide to go with quality I personally tend to use RØDE, they make good products and tend to back them up with excellent service if something goes wrong. For an all-in-one solution they have the Rodelink Filmmaker kit, currently for sale at BestBuy for US $400. That kit includes the Lavalier mic, a belt worn digital transmitter and a digital reciever you mount to your camera or sound equipment. The transmitter and the reciever clears up the sound a bit more than the lav does on it's own and makes sure you don't have to run cables to your camera or sound recording equipment which lets you move about more freely. if you want to believe RØDE it has up to 100 meters (110ish yards) of range but take that with a handful of salt, 30 meters are more realistic numbers but that include concrete walls and such so still pretty good. A good windscreen to go with it will cost you another US $10ish or buy RØDE lav deadkitten for US $25 for a set of 3 that you know fits with the before mentioned kit. A kind of problem that might rear it's head after that is that the sound might sound too clear as it may filter out too much background noise, this can be a good problem to have as you can then underlay a low volume music track or run room tone (a recording of the low volume sounds that exist in any room or space) from that environment.
      Hope it helps and let me know if you have any questions.

    Jack, pls, buy a new mic that's more suitable for windy and noisy circumstance. Everytime you starts the performance test, I couldn't hear your voice.

  • @PhilbyFavourites

    At last you pay quarter of a million and you get a heads door!
    The previous model was sheer madness with just a lift up pad over a toilet in what is essentially your living room! How on earth they got away with it god only knows.
    And to add to the other viewers, you may wish to re-edit for cabin sound quality... TH-camrs putting out content from their bedroom have better sound - you know you can do better.
