- Here is a more in depth look into stripping the paint off a model. Since the paint job is not going well on this and I see a few signs that it will get worse. I'm going to strip this resin model and start all over.

I use Super Clean to clean full size car parts, it'll clean grease and paint down to bare metal if left soaking for a few days.

Thanks! I have stripped a few more than I like to admit. I also recently had to strip a model that I used Splash paints on. I messed it up and repainted it again. Splash paints was $20.99 for 30ML of paint and that is just the basecoat. It really is a splash of paint! I had to buy another bottle.

You always have the exact video I need… just when I need it!! I’ve tried many things to clean up my resin kits. I thought I was just doing it wrong. I have even bought a large sonic cleaner to use with 91% alcohol but it would dissolve and gum up my resin. I know am rather new to resin, could you elaborate on the resin you use? Obviously I’m not good at this and my airbrushing skills have me recovering more than I’m painting!! 🤣. I’m headed straight to Lowe’s to pick up some right away.
Thanks! I buy a lot of resin products and make a few on occasion. When I did this one I was using Smooth On. Mainly because I was casting bodies and wanted something strong and I was buying a lot of it. I use Alumilite also because it is at Hobby Lobby and I am just casting a few items.
The super clean has a hard time removing Tamiya aerosol lacquers so I had to use easy off to remove the paints on my car.
I have experienced that as well.
Enamel is oil based, that's why the Super Clean attacks it. Lacquer is shellac or synthetic resin based.

Nice tip! I was always afraid of using stuff on resin cause I heard that it could turn into a blob.
This works well but it depends on the resin but you never know what is actually used by the caster. I have had brake fluid and 91% rubbing alcohol damage resin. This stuff I have had good lock with but won't leave it overnight.
Super clean is great stuff!!,i use to use brake fluid,but i found it left the bodies cracked and brittle after.I like your new color choice as well,looking forward to more.
Thanks! I have used brake fluid and had the same problems with plastic getting brittle and it also attacked resin so now I don't use it.

I have a friend looking extra paint off of his plastic hubcap wheels, keep them painted but they get all torn up and he hast to redo it every few months and he’s been doing the stripping with sanding blocks but this might be a better solution
It could be depending on what paint he is using.

Yes sir I use the Super Clean, over and over and over again! And if I can’t get or find the Super Clean then I’ll get Purple Power, or Simple Green or Mean Green, all those are good too, not as good as the Super Clean but good nonetheless! But good stuff Raoul! 👍👍✌🏻

I use Super Clean and get usually two years in a medium sized tub before all the fluid is just a sludge of grease and old paint. It's really the best stripper and won't damage the plastic.
I have not let it get that sludgy but I can see it keep working.

Does it work on spray can paint,enamle or lacquer paint for model cars?
Usually does but every now and then I find one that is a challenge.
Scalecoat is the best I have used. It is rather expensive and hard to find. I have not found anything it won't strip in 2 hours!

Super Clean is safe to remove Lacquer paints in Toys and other plastic models without breaking? Most Lacquer Thinners causes crack effects on plastic.
Lacquer thinner will attack plastic. Lacquer paint will also do it is hard to strip because it will imbed into the plastic a bit. I have used this to strip it and it will remove some. 91% alcohol will also.
@@TheMuscleCarModeler I always remove it with Tamiya Lacquer Thinner. When removing a lot I see crack effects and crack hairline I am not using them anymore. So I'm going to use Alcohol and some other cleaning products that is safe for plastic.
Hello, I'd like to ask, now that you've experienced this paint removal process., if this Super Clean detergent can loosen or desolve enamel paint or such? Reason is, I had obtained a 69 Charger kit (molded in white), but apparently someone before me had started painting this kit in black. And I would like to strip that black and give it a nicer color. Someone in another video mentioned "Purple Power" would strip it, but it did not, paint didn't even budge. So what say ye..? (I wrote this prematurely, bcuz Now, by the look of your paint coming off, it seems perhaps that paint is water-based paint?)
I find that actual Purple Power is a little weaker than Super Clean. But I do call them both Purple Power even though that is not truly correct. If those don't touch it. Then I wash it off and let it dry. Then I dip it into 91% Isopropyl Rubbing Alcohol. That usually does it.
@@TheMuscleCarModeler I tried the 99%alcohol and it did loosen the paint,, somewhat, but I have to put too much effort into sratching it off, tooth brush isn't working. I may have to move over to the TESTORS ELO. I just want this paint to fall off..
After removing the paint. Do I need to sand it or just let it dry and prime it?
Most of the time I don’t need to sand it but sometimes you may if you have a stubborn section.
@@TheMuscleCarModeler I just started out and not having much luck. Don’t really know for sure where it’s going wrong. When I airbrush the primer it comes on the car and it’s to runny in my opion. I will try again later just with the surface primer from Vallejo without thinner hopefully that works. It’s trail and error in the beginning it seems.
It may already be pre thinned. Don’t know about that brand.

Does this degreaser work with other resin bodies/parts? And the super glue you mentioned, will it strip the plastic filler made from scrap plastic and super glue?
Thank you! I use this first on all resin bodies. I have not had an issue with it yet but I don't leave the resin in overnight like I will with plastic. If the filler is made from plastic, it should not affect it. I have had brake fluid and 91% alcohol affect resin.

What would happen if you soaked the entire model in this before trying to take it apart ?

Great video, Raoul! What do you use to strip 2k clear?
I use the same stuff to strip that. I use Sherwin Williams 939 clear. It is a 2 part urethane clear meant for a real car. Once it is hardened this stuff won't touch it. But I have used scotch tape and pulled it off like a decal and many times it just peals off. Other times I let it soak in the purple power. The purple power takes awhile but what it does is get behind the clear and attack the base coat. Then the clear comes off in sheets.
Hey Rauel! I was just trying to figure out how to get rid of my clear coat (pledge) when you brought this video out. Will this method work on plastic? I don’t have access to Super Clean here in Canada, but I can get Purple Power. What’s your suggestion (s).
These Products are Usually Sodium or Potassium Hydroxide.... Purple Power Works Very Well.... Formula 88 and Such...Most HD Degreasers will Remove Paint.
Use the purple power. It should work and will work on plastic.
