I’m barely 22 and just had my first ever kidney stone on Sunday (through Tuesday morning) and I can’t even begin to explain how excruciatingly painful it was. Throwing up, nearly fainting, writhing on the ground. I kept thinking to myself “I feel like I’m dying” but to be honest death would’ve been merciful and gladly welcomed to not have to experience anymore pain like that. Went to the ER after 5 hours of intense intense 11/10 pain and finally got IV painkillers which helped SO MUCH. They confirmed it was a 4mm kidney stone and sent me home with more painkillers. Passed on its own almost two days later and I COULD NOT BE MORE GRATEFUL! Catch me chugging a gallon of water a day from here on out

I had the same thing but I couldn't pass mine and had to have a laser shoved up in me and had to have a stent in for 2 weeks and it was so painful every time I had to pee. You got lucky passing it on your own. I hope I never have to go through that again. God bless our big beautiful ❤️'s.

The pain is extreme .. this last time (a month ago) they gave me morphine and it didn’t do anything..they eventually gave me dilauded and about 20 minutes later I was pain free.. I think I shed a tear of relief.

I cannot believe I have come across this Video, I am going into Hospital tomorrow Morning for a Kidney Stone removal, they attempted to remove it 4 weeks ago but the ureter was too narrow to get the instruments in, so a stent was placed for the last 4 weeks.
I cannot have Lithotripsy because I have a large cyst right next to the stone which I am unable to pass naturally due to its size, I hope it is removed tomorrow as I have had all of the symptoms you mentioned especially the abdominal and back pain, thank you for such an informative Video

I was diagnosed yesterday with a 2mm kidney stone. The pain was excruciating and it did come in waves. My pain is on the left side and they did a CT scan and the results said i had some scarring. The er doctor didn’t really explain much about where the stone was located and I was in such shock to get the news initially I didn’t ask the right questions because I was still affected by the morphine. I will be drinking water consistently going forward!

Two weeks ago I was brought to my German hospital with kidney stones. It started on the right side just behind the lowest rip on my back. The feeling was comparable to a flickering muscular cramp. The pain was still somewhat manageable BUT it became worse every minute. It radiated right through to the chest side and went down towards the groin.
When I arrived at hospital the pain was excuciating, I felt weak, I was sweating like hell, my clothes were wet, I felt nauseous and started fainting. I could barely stand on my feet and only had one wish: I asked myself if I had suffered enough that I was allowed to pass out happily to save me from that excruciating amount of pain.
I described the mentioned pain development as accurately as possible. I spoke very slowly and quietly because I had severe difficulties expressing my thoughts. The ER-doctor asked if the pain was colicular in nature. My harsh reply was: "What the hell does that mean?! I have never had a colic in my life and have no clue how it feels like!"
Due to the intense pain I was upset .. and I was scared to death. I hope she did not take it offensively. Calmly she explained to me how colicular pain feels like (waves) and I said: "No..... no waves! Just INTENSE pain!" I was put on high dosed intravenous painkillers immediately and the pain went down. Let's say I could handle it easily again.
I am thankful for what she did. And btw: There had not been any waves because a large amount of kidney 'sand' had accumulated right in front of my bladder forming a concrete like blockage. No waves of pain because no big stones had travelled. Due to my tiny anatomy I was unable to pee them out and I had never peed anything out in my life. Du to the amount of build up pressure my kidney had burst (fornix rupture).
Yesterday the bill from the hospital arrived: Nine days in hospital for 90 €. 😉

I was treated for kidney stone lodged between my bladder and kidney. Ambulance took me hospital ER..... Fell on floor, regurgitating and had excruciating pain.... Arrived at 8pm that nite and was not seen by anyone until 10am the next morning by the urology team. Went into septic shock and passed out... They had to perform emergency surgery... ICU for 4 days, in the hospital for 24 days in all... My bill: $207,567.00 so far! This doesn't include the office visits of $45.00 co-pay. BCBS paid $204,000.00+, and, I have to pay only $3200.00! I had three (3) surgeries! No high blood Pressure, though...loads of heavy and deadly medications, whew! I have to sign on for Therapy due to this... I still have nightmares about this shit! 😮
Now I have severe back pain, and will see the Dr soon. I have Lumbar Stenosis and hopefully, that's where the pain is coming from. I will know, soon...
May God bless us, all! 🛐🙏🏼👼🏼🧡

Straight & simple talk here. I'd get up to 4 very large (oxalate) kidney stones a year. I've had NONE for 7 years now. I use something called 'Stone Breaker' tablets I get from Walmart. Active ingredient is something called Chanca Piedra & there are other brands available. Dosage is recommended 3 tablets a day (about 25 cents each) but I find that one a day works for me. If I feel back pain like from a pending stone I simply go to two tabs a day for a while & never had a problem.

Very informative and helpful. I have kidney stones some of the systems I’ve had is pain in my lower back pain in testicular on the same side as the kidney effected with stones. I’m going in for the scope procedure in 2 days CT scan showed a couple stones in my kidney and in the uruter as well as one in my blather

    • @bobbailey4954
      @bobbailey4954 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Follow up I had the procedure with the scope up my urethra and the laser with the claw the surgeon said the after zapping the worst stones the view was obstructed so he put a stent just below my kidney and he will have to go in to remove the rest of the stones in my kidney. He also said my kidney was going into failure so the timing was right to save my left kidney. For that I’m grateful. As far as pain I would liken it to pissing razor blades this is day 2 of recovery and the bleeding is almost gone but the sharp pain even with pain meds is still very much with me. And of course drinking a lot of water is mandatory for recovery. Get checked out if you can a simple Cscan will tell the truth about kidney stones

    Hello, Dr. Frita:
I have a 5mm nonobstructing stone in the lower pole of my left kidney. The stone was first noted on CT about 15 months ago in the course of a pretty thorough hematuria workup. At the time, my urologist was skeptical that such a stone could produce the blood that we were seeing. So a cystoscopy was done, which was negative, as well as a mfMRI which revealed a suspicious prostatic lesion which a biopsy revealed to be a small (Gleason 3+4 in one core) tumor, which was Cyberknifed without issue. PSA (which was never very high) is down sharply. My hematuria stopped, until this past June. My question: does a 5mm stone need to be extracted if isolated intermittent hematuria is the only symptom? I feel fine.

Yes, an extremely unpleasant experience. Two occasions I was overwhelmed with that aweful pain . Once in Thailand and once on a road trip in Malaysia. The hospitals treated me for the pain and gave me medicine to flush the stone out. I never did see any fragments or stone in my urine. Then one night back in the UK a year or so after the last episode the pain returned for a third time. This time even worse and incapacitating. Even my dog wouldn’t come near me. I phoned an “out of hours doctor who wanted me to drive twenty miles to see him. A big no no. Ended up with a 999 call and the para medics managed to settle me with morphine. I was taken to A and E where they found I had a 7mm stone blocking my Ureter. About three days later a small tube was inserted to bypass the stone and three months later the stone was removed. A truly horrible experience but how lucky to live in this age where kidney stones can be treated.

This Dr. Is freaking good at her job. I wished I had her 15yrs ago when I started really having them bad.
I have learned how to live with them, even as painful as they are. My kids swear that I love pain now. I have gone the the E.R 3 times in my life over Kidney Stones. This was back in my early 30s. The E.R doctor was very rude to me the last time I went in my 30s saying that they weren't going to keep treating me for them.
Last night I didn't know what was wrong. I figured it was one of 3 things.
    1. Kidney Stone
    2. Bladder / Kidney infection ( which I have ever only had with stones )
    3. All of the above.
So after 4 hours of sitting on the toilet screaming in so much pain, my dog was even worried. My wife figured I'd want to go to the E.R whenever I couldn't take the pain anymore. I mean we have been married now for 30yrs amd she knows I'm not gonna listen anyway. Lol. I had been having side pains, but a couple weeks earlier I was in the hospital for pneumonia and bi lateral blood clots in my lungs. So I was kinda used to the pain already.
Well after peeing fire for 4 hours, I figured it was time to go to the hospital. The Doctors assistant whatever she is called ran the test and CT scan. I had already passed the stone and peeing blood. This had to be one of the largest stones I've had. I have passed then at 7.5mm. So with all the pain, I figure it was over 8mm to cause the amount of pain I was in and still in right now.
Be careful and listen to this Dr. She knows way more then the other I've talked too. Take care and God Bless.

Having experienced 1 or 2 stones a year since I was 30, I found your post to be very accurate. I would rather know the truth about the pain and how it's managed than the physician not being truthful about what to expect. My very first urologist saw me for a follow up and removed the stents. Another painful part of kidney stones. When he was done I sat up and said, " Man I am glad that is over." the doctor kind of chuckled and said, "Enjoy the feeling as long as you can because you'll be back with more stones." And he was right. Thank you for an informative post.

I've always had issues with my kidneys since I was a baby, I was so badly jaundiced I almost had to get dialysis. I've has a few nasty kidney infections, the last one over a year ago where I had to be admitted. They gave me an ultrasound for stones but said nothing was there. I'm concerned I still have an underlying issue though as I'll get stitch like cramps in my sides and back at times, my doctor dismisses me all the time though.

Yes. I woke up one day with INTENSE pain in my abdomen. So much so that I couldn’t drive myself to the emergency clinic. I got my landlord to take me. She said as soon as she saw my face, she knew something was wrong. She took me in her pajamas. The clinic said they believe I had a kidney stone, but told me to go to the hospital now and he called ahead. The fastest I’ve ever been seen at a hospital. He wanted to make sure my appendix hadn’t ruptured. It was fine but they confirmed kidney stone.

Hi Dr. Frita, I was diagnosed with a 5mm kidney stone about 3 weeks ago. I don’t think I’ve passed the stone yet but I haven’t had terrible pain in the last 10 days. Is it possible to still have the stone but feel no pain for days? Or is it more likely that I have passed it without knowing. Giving that it is 5mm I thought I would notice when it passed.

How should I get rid of them?
