Part of the fun of a kidney stone is going to the emergency room and waiting 5 hours in excruciating pain including writhing on the floor and having the personnel get angry at you for doing that while they see people with colds before you get help. I'd like to thank the American hospitals everywhere who do that. Kudos. Great job.

Don't forget the $25,000 ambulance ride and hospital bills afterward. Especially when they run all the tests and end up saying, "Let's just wait and see if it will pass on its own." No prescription, no surgery, no machine to break up the stones. Thanks for coming, here's a $25,000 bill. We appreciate your patronage. Come again soon.

After having 10 12 kidney stones through the years and have been to the emergency room several times for NOTHING ! I save strong pain meds back from other medical problems and I don't leave home without them anymore. Without warning I had one at work when they found me in pain in the bathroom floor they called an ambulance which I refused and begged some to take me home to get my meds they have been with me every day since. Some have given warnings like the unexplained aich in the back several days before and some had a about a 30 second warning some I have seen and others not which is scary and hard to believe considering how bad they hurt. Speaking of scared just watching this video and thinking about it has me shaking 😢

I have had kidney stones many times over years, I am 57 now. Last week one was stuck in between kidney and bladder, backup of urine in kidney. If a kidney stone pain is 1-10 a 10 which I thought was painful. When it backs up into kidney it's 100, I never want to experience pain like that again, was like getting kidney removed while awake with someone using butter knife. Morphine x 2 was zero help, then iv toradol and pain went away. I think I have minor kidney issues now since the backup into kidney, happened 2 days in row and was at ER both times, now my body is holding water etc, keeping electrolytes in me and drinking a lot of water.

Thank GOD MY HOSPITAL SHOT ME FULL IF MORPHINE RUSHED ME THROUGH A CT SCAN AND FOUND THE STONE SRUCK IN MY URETER! 😮. The urologist was able to remove it and put a stent in. The stent was malplaced and caused an infection with another ambulance ride to ER. My KIDNEY RUPERGED FROM THE STONE COMING OUT OF MY KIDNEY INTO THE URETER BY SCRAPING THE KIDNEY! I now have a nephrostomy bag in my right kidney a week stay in the hospital and found out my left kidney isn't producing urine anymore. YOU SENT YOUR PATIENT HOME IN THAT MUCH PAIN? THANK GOD FOR MY DR KEEPING ME DRUGGED UP UNTIL SURGERY! Now my right kidney is functioning at only 46%! YOU DRS NEED TO TAKE THESE THINGS MORE SERIOUS. There's no way I could pass that stone! @@rotwiler7674 let them put a stent in and let them try to remove the stone instead of passing it. It's literally the worst pain I've ever experienced. They can break it up or remove it. Luckily I have a phenomenal urologist who was able to remove it from the ureter. But it ruptured my kidney while passing getting stuck just leaving the kidney into the tube. No kidney stone patient should be sent home from the hospital to pass that on their own, I believe. It's just so painful and dangerous. Without more imaging, they wouldn't have known my kidney ruptured. And the nephrostomy bag was painful as well. If you are male you have a longer route to expel that stone than a woman.
The only thing that made me feel better was hearing a Dr say she had just gone through the same thing weeks earlier and knows how we kidney patients feel.

I've had several. Typically every 4 yrs. Last one was a month ago. It doesn't matter how tough, buff, fit, or lit you are. When you get a stone you're going DOWN to the ground in pure HELL.. This one took me 4 days to pass and an ER visit at the tail end just before it passed because I simply couldn't take the pain anymore. I was beat down and weak. Ended up w/a 3mm stone (not that big really). 3 hits of Diulodid(spelling), Toridol, Flexerol, ..Hospitals dont do much for you except to confirm what you know you have and give you some temporary relief. Oh and a BILL. Percocet 10mg barely bit the pain away. If you haven't had one DRINK water and take apple cider vinegar daily. The last 3 I have had I was working outside in the heat and drinking beer. Next day WHAMMO! I drink about a gallon of water a day but I still get them.

I have experienced kidney stones twice in the past and on both occasions, a stent was required to be placed. The pain that comes along with it is indescribable and the anxiety of going to the emergency room in Canada is immeasurable. The only form of relief that I could find was through heat therapy, such as hot baths, hot showers, hot water bottles, or heating pads. This was after the stent was placed and there were still occasional waves of pain and blockage.

I just had ureteroscopy on a 6mm stone the day after Christmas. I went to the ER with severe pain and nausea on Christmas Eve. The doctor diagnosed hydronephrosis and, since it was a holiday, they opted to keep me in the hospital on order to manage my pain and nausea and to monitor my temperature. Even though I hated being in the hospital on Christmas, my history of managing my pain at home is poor. It was a very easy surgery this time, with very little post-op pain. But since this is my second surgery in one calendar year, the surgeon wants me to see a nephrologist. He also wants to keep the stent in for two weeks, which bummed me a little. This was my sixth kidney stone surgery in five years. I'm just glad I didn't have to have surgery during covid!

My SIL had kidney stones right after my daughter gave birth. She developed gall stones at the same time! I was either taking him to the ER or babysitting their kids while he took her in! He told her the doc told him the pain was worse than childbirth. Not something you tell a new mom! I guess it's true. He passed his stone. She had surgery. One of the folklore tales of their marriage. ❤

When I saw my Nephrologist for a cyst on my kidney I told her about an experience I had that the pain was worse than child birth. She responded, it was most likely a Kidney stone. Most women will describe the pain the same way. It's a pain I never want to have again. TY for this information. I hope I don't follow the 10 year statistic! My first stone was when I was 9 months pregnant with my second child. So much pain. That was ‘94. Ended up with them again years later. Old doctor kept sending me to physical therapy because he thought my pain (I felt bruised all the time) was from my weight training. Needless to say I nearly died from going septic. I have a great Urologist who saved my life, he did a PCNL , which no dr in my county will perform, plus I had several more surgeries that year…one after another after another. An entire year of excruciating pain and not being able to leave the house because I couldn’t be away from the toilet. Now, a year and half later, I have 3 more plus I gained weight. I am one of those people which the family curse. My life goes on, but dang it, I want what I had of my life back. Great video. Thank you.

Currently being treated. Went to ER, confirmed stone. Tried waiting, but stone didn't move. Tried lithotripsy, but wasn't in right location, so placed a stent. Removed stent, successfully cut stone with contact laser and removed using uteroscopy, then put in new stent to help ureter heal properly. I go back soon to get second stent removed. No family history, and never had a stone before, but started eating "healthy" six months ago: almonds, spinach, reducing cheese (calcium).
Also, in U.S., we get plastic funnels with screens instead of coffee filters.

UPDATE: While I had the stents in, I found that it was painful if I stopped and restarted urinating. It's best to let it all out at once.
The second stent removal was in my doctor's office. They squirted a painkiller up my "zizi" (didn't hurt, but felt weird), then waited a few minutes, then placed a thin tube up my "zizi" to pull out the stent. I expected the stent to be a short thing, but it's actually pretty long.
It has been nearly a year, and things are going well. I watch what I eat most of the time. I went back last month for an X-ray, and they didn't see any new stones.
I'm just trying to share my survivor story. It's quite an ordeal.

I'm currently trying to pass my 4th kidney stone in 15 years. Previously I have passed a 5mm stone, then had two separate Lithotripsy procedures. Worst part is having the stent, and then having to remove the stent myself after a week. Removing the stent is uncomfortable, but not super painful. But both times, about 30 minutes after removing the sent, I had THE WORST PAIN I have ever felt in my life. I even removed it VERY slowly. Apparently my body does not like that at all.

I once passed a kidney stone unexpectedly whilst at work. I'd been suffering with the lower back aching, stabbing pains and feeling crappy for several weeks. I arrived at work early on the day in question, and with a full bladder, nipped into the social club we had on site (I work within one of our city hospitals, here in South Wales, UK). I chose a cubicle as my back was aching, so thought I'd just sit and try to ease the discomfort. As I started to pee, around mid stream I experienced a horrendous lancing pain that was so intense I could not prevent myself from making sounds as if I were possessed. I felt as if I were being torn apart slowly. I had zero control over my body, so thank God I was sitting. My pitiful description does not do the severity of pain passing that stone, justice, and I've had compartment syndrome of my right arm post surgery, and that was hell.
It's now been, roughly, six years since that event, and as I write this I'm now getting that aching in the exact same area of my back. I hope to God it's not another stone.

First kidney stone ever - 4mm this week. The pain was so intense I would rather die than go through it again. Went to ER at midnight, passed out from pain. they sent me home at 7 next morning after getting pain under control with morphine etc, Had oxy, high does advil other things for home in hopes it would pass. Didn’t matter. The pain returned by mid afternoon that same day, overriding all. Back to ER where they again did morphine, tramadol and anti nausea. Underwent the surgery. Best thing ever. Yes pain after and I still have to get stent removed but it’s nothing compared to the pain of the stone stuck at the entrance of the kidney. The surgeon said 4mm isn’t that big and it would pass on its own eventually. For those of you who have never been through it there is no “eventually.” Call me a wimp but I would nit be able to stand what they said could have been three weeks of that pain. By then I would have had to be seriously addict to opiates just to survive. If you get a stone and are in severe pain demand they remove it.

They are rare in women, but the physician’s assistant in the ER said she had never seen this … I have 3 stones and they are on both sides. On the right side I have a 4mm stone and on the left side I have two stones, one 2mm and the other 8mm. They sent me home with Oxycodone which hasn’t touched the pain! I feel like I’m going crazy with the pain. Of course, it happened going into the Christmas holiday weekend, so I can’t contact my urologist until Tuesday. @@Otomega1 I've had kidney stones for forty years. I have never had any removed in Hospital. To get rid of the Pain you need a Tourmaline magnet Back Support. This heats your back up and kills the bacteria and viruses. The best devices I have are a pain killing Ultrasound Device which vibrates deep inside your back and moves the stone so it passes out. I have a Multi Coloured Cold Laser which penetrates deep into your back and kills viruses and bacteria. It's good for Urinary infections and you can use it on your stomach. The Tourmaline Magnet stuff is very cheap to buy. The lasers and Ultrasound are about £100 each. But I found going to the Doctor a Waste of time. Apple Cider Vinegar diluted in Water with some sugar, and Cranberry juice helps a lot. Now the slightest feeling of a Kidney Stone and I get rid of it immediately. An infra red massager is good as well. They are about £30. Also a Magnetic self heating Back Support, which I wear in Bed is Brilliant.

My problem was I had zero pain. I ended up with a serious blood infection and my first symptoms were feeling ill with a severe fever. GP kind of ignored the problem and I ended up almost bleeding to death as the infection caused bleeding ulcers. 17 units of blood and some time in ICU they finally got the bleeding to stop. Getting the stones removed was the easy part. I spent much of my life not drinking enough and sitting at a desk. You better believe I monitor my clear liquid intake each day and also monitor my urine for color and clarity. The infection (which recurred a few times) causes cloudy urine. I do not want to go through that again! This was September 2022.

You can also use a vibration hand massage gun to help break the stones up . I've passed a bunch of stones and sand over the past year , I've learned that flowmax + massaging gun + heating pad is the best method to pass the stones.

You doctors told me more in this clip than my urologists has in three visits waiting on lithotripsy scheduling date with a 5mm X 10MM stone in ureter. I feel better knowing the urethra is 10 times larger than Ureter so thanks so much and I just ordered the Piatra. thanks again.
