Even with an extra $6,000 of tax, I would buy that truck, that would be the best $16,000 you ever spent. Especially considering that the most basic new trucks are $35,000-50,000 now, I would probably pay close $20k for one of those if it was necessary, thats about what a UTV or Mahindra Roxor costs if not less. It would certainly be a truck that would work hard and last at least 20+ years with only basic maintenance. The only American commercial vehicles I would buy would be a GM Express/Savanna/Silverado/Sierra base model 2500/3500 6.6L gas/6L90E or Ford Super Duty XL package 6.8/7.3L gas, those could be counted on to run for 400,000 miles+, the fuel and maintenance costs would likely be many orders of magnitude greater than this Toyota and they wouldn't likely be necessary for the extra cargo capacity, only if you need to tow 6,000-12,000lbs and the Amreican V8s are going to be much quicker and understressed under constant heavy workloads. For a little kick around truck that Toyota would probably be great, it's like a Side-By-Side UTV that has compact pickup bones, it's like a modern, reliable incarnation of the old Jeep Forward Control.

Ridiculous how here in the states our country makes regulations that keep vehicles we actually want and could benefit from buying so hard/impossible to get. "Safety" regulations? It's a selling point for vehicles in the states to have a touch screen TV/tablet mounted on the dash partially blocking a drivers view, 25 USB ports to look for/use while driving, and as many other gadgets and gizmos in a vehicle. Yet non of that is considered a distraction while driving or a safety hazard. Just waiting for drivers to be ticketed for driving under the influence of gadget induced distraction caused accidents. Cigarettes and alcohol are still legal. Grocery stores stock thousands of FDA APPROVED items that shorten lives and lead to diseases. It's not about vehicle safety. It's the big 3 auto makers that don't want to compete with vehicles like this Toyota Champ. And on top of that, "American" auto manufacturers create jobs and build their vehicles in other countries like Mexico and China.

      As per Wikipedia:
In 2013, US Customs told Ford that they must stop this practice of importing vans disguised as passenger cars. As of July 2018, Ford continued to employ the loophole but remained continuously in court over the practice. On 7 June 2019, the United States won its appeal in the Federal Appellate Court. The court determined that the Ford Transit Connect was a vehicle for the transportation of cargo.
Edit: The other vehicles that use the IMV platform (Hilux, Fortuner and Innova) have 5 star ratings from ASEAN NCAP. As for emissions, they could use the 4 cylinder from the previous Tacoma.

I'm in a stripped down JLU wrangler no seats/carpet etc. Farm trucks/welding trucks/ trucks with fabricated 'overlanding' beds are all cool to me. But I picked the jeep because its extremely nimble and has the old fashion solid axle. I'm really digging the pickup aspect of this while maintaining a practical size, knowing I haul around decent sized, potentially really dirty things (dogs for one) but I'm no rancher or construction worker. The bed alone makes me really wish this was in the states it would be the perfect dynamic next to my wrangler, having a cargo bed and also a pickup bed without having to buy a full size, or the midsize trucks with all their frills and aerodynamics, angry lights etc for $50k.

@@Jackmerius_Tacktheretrix Honestly, I just want a real truck like you could get in the 90s, with roll down windows, A/C, vinyl flooring and 4x4 under 30k new. Not these Gucci trucks that suburban moms want to pick up their groceries.

@corydodge1691 facts! And if I wanted a conpact pickup id want it to be a body on frame, not based on a car.

If this is the next take on the hilux, it’s gonna be a great vehicle. Farmers, tradies, commercial or home working Ute. Everyone will want one. Simple, reliable, without the bells and whistles. If it comes in 4WD it’ll take over and change the market. 4WD are too expensive and luxurious to take off-road these days.
