With the champ,i'd consider it as a budget entry truck with a low tray bed to be used around the town pickup delivery work and not really designed for off road use, hence the lack of 4x4 and bigger wheels. I think the champ will be very well placed into the commercial market where im sure it was the key role it was originally designed .
it's a pity that Toyota don't sell the lc70 Land-cruiser, 4x4 to the local market ( Especially the GX edition) , You would really like one of those but they would be a little more than 577.000,

    • @TeamDNFracing

Yep, the Land-cruiser would be a tad bit more than the Champ... Like they say here in Thailand, Nit Noi which means little bit, like at least a million Baht more.....🤔🤔

Congratulations on the ninth anniversary! Yes the Champ is really nice. I just watched a video a few days ago with a guy ranting because he can't buy one here in the U.S., you are fortunate to have the opportunity. I would guess the speedometer and whatever else is related to that system is probably computer controlled. I know you have local experts that reprogram your bike's engine controls, no doubt they or someone they know can recalibrate speedos. It is possible too that the tire size you want wouldn't make enough difference to be a problem. Thanks for the video, good wishes to you and your wife...

Maybe not, I had a Tundra before I moved to Thailand and really wish I could get one here, but not going to happen. They would sell a lot of the Champs in the US, but don't really think the Tacoma sales would drop much at all. We have a Toyota Hillux, (Tacoma) and my wife won't part with it. This is the second one we've gotten since I moved here ten years ago..... I'm thinking she is going to want the new model that is supposed to come out next year... I guarantee you Japanese automakers would love to sell all of their products in the US market too. However, there are many regulatory and tariff restrictions imposed by the US government to protect US automakers, labor union, etc, which makes it extremely difficult. Toyota can sell at this price range because Hilux Champ is currently manufactured in Thailand. The design and coloring is kept basic and simple. And durability, endurance, and versatility is prioritized since Toyota wants customers to use the truck for their farms, small businesses, deliveries, food trucks, and daily work.

Yea, there are funny little things about choosing the transmission. I'll need to check on this for sure, but the saleslady said we can't get the manual transmission with the short wheel base bed, only the Automatic. That doesn't sound right to me, but I did go to another dealer and that saleslady offered me accessories where the one in this video didn't. I also inquired about the color dark gray and she said they should be getting one in this week and would call me when it shows up. I'll take my GoPro with me and do another video on it with the accessories I plan on getting and the costs of it. Also, I have to consider the fact that my wife will be doing driving with this truck also and she doesn't really care for the manual transmission. Believe it or not, this engine with the automatic is very spunky and we have owned two Toyota Hillux pickups since I moved here 10 years ago. The one we have now is her daily driver and she really likes it. I'll know more later this week when I go back to the second dealer to do another video.....

Get out into the country, visit the smaller out of the way places. The people there are way more friendly and the prices are less expensive. My first trip to Thailand was to Bangkok and I hated it, felt a lot better about the country when I got out of there and started to see the rest of the country. It's best if you can get a guide to show you around and much easier on the pocket book... Be sure to check up on all the customs of the country before coming here so you don't offend the locals when you really didn't mean to. They drive on the left side of the road, so plan ahead on that. If you decide to rent a small motorcycle, take lots of video and still shots of it before you leave the rental shop, play it safe rather than them telling you later that you wrecked the vehicle. When you travel on the highways, stay as far to the left of the road as possible, they will run you over and not stop to check on you. Be careful, don't carry a lot of cash on you and alway be respectful of the Thai ways.... You'll probably fall in love with the country like I did, can't complain about that......

I would never buy black again, it shows dirt , scratches and the sun bakes the crap out of the paint. Next truck will be white or what I come to like the more I see it is "lunar rock" which is a light gray. I wish I could get one of those hiluxs, the diesel with manual tranny. We've got a 2016 Toyota Hilux Revo pickup in black, my wife loves it, I hardly ever get to drive it, but the dark gray is sharp looking also so I'm going with the dark gray color. We keep our vehicles in a carport unless we are driving them and with A/C in them, the heat isn't noticeable. The little lady won't let our vehicles get very dirty as we have a carwash real close to our house and it only cost 200 Baht ($5.50 US) and they do a really good job on it. Most of the locals learned on a manual transmission so not a real big theft deterrent here... I did a video on my TaTa pickup after I bought it and just like the Toyota Champ, I got a lot of comments that they would love to have one of them in the US. Not that my TaTa is not a good truck, but it is getting old, (12 years) and I plan on doing some traveling in the next two years around Thailand and I want to do it in my truck so I don't have to take the wife daily driver. I've gone to another dealer after not getting good info from the first one and there are lots of accessories available already for this truck and I got to see one in the dark gray. Can't get a Honda truck here in Thailand and here at Paradise Garden it has been a ten year investment to get what we now have. My wife already owned half of the land with the small "mother-in-law house" on it before I met her. We then started with the main property and built the main house, the guest house and then did the landscaping and eventually the swimming pool. This was done over a 5 year period and we've got several million Thai Baht invested in it. Baht to dollar ratio is 35 to 1 right now, so plan on spending several hundred thousand dollars to build something like this. The farther away from the big cities, the cheaper the land is so plan accordingly. Before making a move to Thailand, I'd suggest several trips of at least a month at a time to survey different areas to possibly live in. Stay away from the touristy locations as the price of land and building is extremely high. Good luck in your retirement plans as for me, moving here was one of the best things I've done for myself.
