I'd go with the wheels that your boss tells you to use....better be careful, he's about somewhere making sure that you're working! 😉😆😂
You could always detail the rims with black spokes and gold rings or the opposite.
If I was doing this I'd make it a handyman service truck from the 50s. Skinny tires on steelies with dog dish hubcaps. I'd put an era appropriate 6 cylinder in it. White with handyman service decals.
There are so many possibilities for this kit. Matthew made a great choice. I really like the black with gold wheels and trim. Thanks for sharing.
Go with the kit wheels. I hate the gold, but that would be a very 70’s vibe.
I imagine that some brave builder will dare to section some height out of those bodies, and look forward to seeing the results.
I'd go with the gold ones they look better. I'm not sure I would keep them gold. But it's your model. Do what ya want.

You could source the valve covers from other USACC modelers.
I built this kit when I was young, I cut the back of the body off along the body lines, and cut the back doors off with enough material to mold to the back of the cab, so I had a kind of a custom 55 ford Ranchero. Can't wait to see all the finished models.

those chrome turbines look so cool. I like the more vanes on the ARII ones more.

I like the kit wheels because there is more space between the spokes to show some brake detail behind them.
I think the decals from the AMT 1977 Ford Vantom kit would look really cool on this kit. I'd use the gold wheels but strip the gold off and repaint them something like a copper or a little darker. Of course you'd also have to do the grille and bumpers in the copper as well. And leave the side pipes off.
If your doing the Body Black,then Black and Gold is like a perfect Marriage,any other color the Arii are awesome in any case keep the big tires

My brother has a 56 ford and in order to get the front end to look right when he customized it he had to move the front end ahead two inches. Then he put 20 inch wheels on it to fill up those huge fender wells. I find the 53 to 55 look even more front heavy and its hard to make them look right. Good luck cant wait ti see them finished.🇨🇦

For such an old kit, those wheels look fantastic. The gold wheels are better. You lucked out that the tires fit them.
I built the o/g version of it (reg chrome) in the early 80's. Went together easy and for a relatively simple kit it looks good. Also bought several just to get the engine. It looked better than what was available in Mustang kit small blocks at the time.78-85 era
Big-n-Little's the way to go, and I would use the Arii tires, but gold or not, the "see through" look of the kit wheels would also allow for a nice view of the calipers/rotors.

We can't have the real ones so we build the model ones and dream and have fun doing it.
I say kit wheels if you want more muscle look (with side pipes) and the aftermarket if you want more lowrder/cruiser look.

I noticed that when you were unboxing that the front suspension was a Chrysler style torsion setup. That's really cool. I like both sets of wheels but i think the Arii wheels are more accurate and you cant beat the Arii tires. Since your going for a 70s look a nice mural would be great on that big expance of sheet metal( styrene) on the sides.

Also, a deep purple body color would go well with the gold rims...

My thought would be to distress it in grey and red primer like a Rat Rod, and use the kit wheels, but in silver chrome.

I say go with the aftermarket wheels since those monogram wheels were in every release of that kit. It depends on if you want the gold

If you wanted the chrome trees to be chrome and not gold, with out stripping them, I've heard rubbing alcohol works to remove the gold. I don't know if it works, but I've heard it does.
I think you are right. The gold is just a clear over the chrome, I believe.

The IRS is a Jaguar type. Which was a street rod thing back in the day. Not really that bizarre back on the 70s. Probably a outdated thing now.

I think the chrome ARII wheels look the best. Although youll`e have to redo all the chrome. Also you could always stick your nascar chassis under it. LOL.

Well, not like your gonna listen to this but……. I like both wheels and think the color would be the final say in which one to use. Green/Black - gold wheel, Blue/White - Chrome wheel)
One thing I think would be good is that with the gold wheels you could put some nice disc brakes behind them for added detail.

I like both wheels but the kit wheels seem like they have more detail unless it's just the camera because the other wheels have more and smaller spokes

Dukes and A team had more space between ribs and the ,gold fall in between those 2, the story of how you are going to build I say wheels from kit with the thoughts of gun metal colored wheels
