  • A short poetic documentary film, exploring alternative lifestyles in the form of the Scottish subculture of 'hutting'.
What inspires people to adopt a more basic way of living? Is it the freedom, the beautiful landscapes, the escape from 9-5 or all three? What do you think? Comments and feedback welcome.
For higher quality the video is also on Vimeo. :)

I leave with more questions than answers. For example, do the folks stay there all year round or is it weekend getaways in the main. I pass by here often and have been tempted to pop in. I hold an allotment, and it's a similar vibe.
From a film-making point of view, I would love to get in about the edit. I think there is a much stronger 3-4 minutes bursting to get out. I think a revisit to get more of the personalities, who huts, rather than how just tranquil it is.
I think it's a great story and a good bit of work. I also think there is revisit in here.
May I ask, was this a student project or done as a personal project?

      Hi there,
thank you for your feedback. The documentary was produced on a budget of £50 and shot in two days as a student piece. I agree there is strong potential for a shorter cut and this is something we are considering.
      Thanks again,
      Will

When my grandfather set up the Carbeth huts in the 1920's the rules were strictly that the huts were not a primary residence. Check out my video as I believe the same is true today: Oor Scotland - a view of Carbeth

Great documentary. I know the hutters have had a hard time with the landowner. Enjoyed this. Only comment would be the volume level seems low compared to other videos, but that's a minor niggle :-)
