- "If you have a piece of land and want to build a little getaway for the weekend, it's actually not that hard", says Ninian Stuart of the Falkland Estate in Fife. Ninian's hut is to him a "Do Nothing Hut", so named by some friends who wrote a haiku poem about it. It's a place to be still, to breathe, to take a break from busy life and remember who you are.

Such a lush hut in the woods, Ninian. I well remember when Rosemary brought a few of us from Ochil Tower to tea with you in about 1982. Happy days! Now I live in Stroud and Rosemary, of course, doesn’t, but inhabits the winds, the stars, the waters and surely the air which she filled with the rippling beauty of her voice!
Cool hut. Thank you for sharing.
What a nice chap.
Nice🔥
Nice video Stuart, love your hut.I am on the other side of Edinburgh from you, pretty much in the country and always wanted a woodland hut, what is the best way to go about, would appreciate any information ie planning, land rights etc.
I'm in the same boat as you, have been dreaming of building a get away for years but struggling to find a plot for a hut. Did you find anywhere or get any useful information, thanks Chic.
Chic McManus unfortunately it hasn’t happened,no info so I will just have to put up with my caravan in the borders, which is ok but still a caravan park, not really the great wilderness, best wishes on your search I’m sure it will happen sometime.
try woodlands.co.uk for lots of discussion and info about how and why you can get planning permission.
Easy if you own a large estate, with plenty of woodland.
Cheap shot and I think you missed anyway, you need to do a bit more research on Ninian Stuart. He is not so easy to stereotype.
Apologies,that should have been Ninian.
