Thank you for this. My husband was in a motor vehicle accident and can not change the oil in our tractor. I am the wife and know that this job needs to be done but was unsure of the steps to take. I am going to attempt this today. Wish me luck ; -)

The engineer who invented that oil chute "attachement" deserves to be kicked in the junk. Thanks for the video it did remind me that I had the chute stashed away somewhere and made the job slightly less messy then it would have been without it.

Great information 👍 nicely done ✔ I'm glad I'm not the only one that finds those drain tubes hard to use. A trick I discovered is tilt the mower over 45° and remove the drain plug and thread in a 1 ft long piece of threaded pipe and then tilt it to the opposite side to drain the entire crankcase and contents of the filter directly into your drain jug w/o spilling a single drop 😁 Note: Tilt it back one last time when removing the drain tube and replacing the drain plug.

Do you know what the size is the thread is on the drain plug? Is it 3/8"?

I'm very happy with the my Cub Cadet ( 4 Years old) the oil change access not so much. Added a 3/8" x 3 1/2" long pipe nipple and cap. Drains into my basket much easier. Other then that for my yard it's a good machine. Spend the extra $ to get the hydraulic shift. Makes reverse or forward movements very smooth

Going on year 4 or 5 now with my CC 30H. Dumbest thing ever is leave the drain plug like that. Plastic thing wasn’t worth a crap, messy. 2-3 years of aluminum foil helped. Last winter saw a B&S twist drain plug with hose on clearance and WOW what a difference. Next winter I just put tube on. Bottle to catch and when ready “twist and drain. Paid
      Ike 7$ on clearance.
Same problem 1st time removing oil filter. Literally smacked screwdriver through it. WT? we’re they thinking.
One of the big box stores sells a bottle of oil that was the right amount. More than a quart.
Air filters same problem. Part numbers same. Says cross reference ok. Too large or too small. This year ordered from AMZ no idea of brand name at time. Higher cost and exactly what I needed. (Troy-Built packaging). TB and MFT and Craftsman will use identical parts if ya need to cross reference.
Don’t forget to lube under chassis and steering and wheels. Wheels another PITA. Had to pull two tires off to get it lubed.
Wish CC was thinking with this oil drain issue. What a mess.
Anyone wanting the bagger attachment, MFT has one that fits this.
And you can download the manual online if needed. The one we got was like recycled paper and looked 50 years old. Convenient to have PDF version to quickly reference.
And I’ve learned to lift the side up and put on blocks. (Recommended from manufacturer to drain. Helped
Curse that plastic tube thing. 🤨. It really sucks. And sucks more are those engineers who said “use this” 🙄
This was the drain plug I got 70% off. www.amazon.com/Briggs-Stratton-Drain-Valve-5401K/dp/B0012W21IY/ref=sr_1_1?crid=3CM3A2IPLYTAZ&keywords=briggs+and+stratton+oil+drain&qid=1684048859&s=home-garden&sprefix=brigs+and+stratton+oil+drain%2Cgarden%2C116&sr=1-1
Air Filter that worked: Eopzol 737-05129 Engine Air Filter for MTD Cub Cadet Troybilt 937-05129 490-200-M070 490-200-Y070 a.co/d/4QiMJ8c
I have two new B&S air filters that were suppose to work and didn’t. One too long for the housing. Other too short and caused problems.
      Good luck

Off topic, my PTO handle is fairly loose in the non-engage higher position. I was curious if yours is also loose? I tried to tighten the pivot bolt but its tight. My PTO works fine, but that handle seems loose (has a little side to side action). Maybe thats the way its supposed to be. The cable guide looks fine too. This is the assembly just to the right of the filter area and also has a safety button.

Mine did not come with any oil drain sleeve at all and nothing to clamp or snap one to -- just a plug in the side of the crankcase in a very inaccessible place at the bottom of the starter. I bought the red Drainzit hose from Amazon, but it's impossible to get a wrench or pliers into the drain plug location to screw it in without removing the starter, and I don't want to just leave it hand tight, so I'm going to Home Depot or a plumbing supply hopefully to get a 3/8" nipple long enough to extend out beyond the starter and a fitting to adapt the nipple to the Drainzit. I think some just get a 1 foot nipple and cap the end, but I don't want anything sticking out far enough to get bumped or broken off. I think one could just loosen a couple of bolts to remove the starter, but I don't want to chance introducing any more variables at this point.

I use a Stens New Oil Drain Valve 125-508 and some tubing to drain the oil.
When filling with new oil, you need to pour SLOWLY or the filler tube overflows.
You would think that the manufacturer would provide a better design for oil related tasks.
