As a licensed mechanic, here's a simple suggestion if you don't have one of those fancy oil drain tubes. Just rim off a file folder, or bend a piece of cardboard and tuck it under the drain plug and let the oil flow into your pan. You do the same with the oil filter.
    Just saying. :-)

ya, or do the same thing with a plastic water bottle, cut off a piece of it and use it as a chute.

Hello Peter, Thank your for taking the time to share your experience and videos. They have inspired my confidence to try basic DIY service on my new Cub Cadet CC 30" rear engine riding mower (Troy Bilt's twin). I've acquired the drainzit tube, necessary oil change items, breaker bar and socket as well as triple use blade (discharge mowing, mulching, bagging) and engine hour meter. If I have any questions, I hope you won't mind if I give you a shout.

Thank you for your video, it’s a game changer. Whatever engineer at Troy Bilt came up with their oil change method should be fired. Better yet the president of Troy Bilt should be required to change the oil himself to see what their customers have to go through. The Drainzit hose is a must. Buy the 3/8” hose for the TB 30R. Unfortunately, there’s no easy way to get through this the first time. I had a real problem just removing the oil plug. Not much room to get any leverage. What worked for me was to buy a 5” long, 1/2” square socket. You have to drain the oil to get the Drainzit hose on and you need to be prepared with plenty of paper towel and newspaper because you are going to have a mess no matter how quick you are getting TB’s little plastic sleeve in place. With the Drainzit hose in place now oil changes will be a breeze. Thanks again!

Not sure you covered it, but warm up the engine for few mintues to get the oil hot and any sludge gets lifted from bottom of pan into suspension (if you don't have a filter) and you will get all the junk out. Also for the filter, take a center punch whack a small hole and hopefully not make a mess, place a piece of 2 littler pop bottle and cut it to let it drain where you want it

If he just left thread size (even 3/8 or 5/16” or 8 mm) it would still be a very big help. The Drainzit part number would even be a bigger help.

You can make it as long as you wold like and easily direct the oil anywhere without dropping oil on the floor. Of course, I still use cardboard under all my vehicle's for oil changes. I haven't serviced the differential on mine. I don't even know if it's necessary.
As far as the bagger chute clogging up, slow down the travel speed when you have heavy leaves to plow through. Slowing down lows the mulching blade to chew up the leaves more throughly.

The TB30R with the Briggs and Stratton brand engine has no oil filter. The TB30R with the “Troy Bilt” brand engine (aka MTD’s China clone engine) as seen in this video DOES have an oil filter. • @darkhelmet9069

I just put the STAN1438 into a TB30 with the 382 cc. Use a long 3/8 extension on a ratchet to get the pipe plug out. One word of caution, use Teflon tape as you can tighten it by hand pretty well and then it is too tight a fit for an open end wrench. I used a pair of pliers with an angled tip to give it the extra nudge. No leaks so far. Angle the hose so it is not touching the muffler/cage as it is pretty close. Edit: forgot - drain the oil first with the siphon pump, have the mower on cardboard as it will leak what oil is left that the siphon pump cannot remove. I waited until the warranty was expired as this would probably void it.

I'm wondering if there is anyway that rubber hose drain tube can melt a hole in it or easily get damaged or torn off causing your oil to accidentally leak and cause damage to the engine?

    • @petedymond
      @petedymond  ปีที่แล้ว +1

No issues so far. There is a keeper loop that secures it and the hose is reinforced. Get one, you won't regret it!

Does it look like the top of the engine has clearance to add a recoil pull start? They are only like $15 and would be good backup if battery is dead. The engine model should support one, they probably just remove it for cost savings.

I'm not sure how that would affect the seat and the plastic body panels.

You are using incorrect oil! Engine oil for small engines are rated for it,10w30 oil for cars, pickups are rated for that! Leads to premature ware of your lawnmower engine! You can google it! Or other search engines! Or talk with your local sma engine repair! Good to change oil yes! But highly need to use correct 10w30 for small engines that has correct blend for small engines! Lowes does sell it! Also get it at Amazon where you orderd oil filter! If you continue! You will be purchasing another engine or mower!

      Allischalmerswd45kid
      - Myths and conspiracies! ;-)
Fram filters might be cheaply built, but what really matters is how good they filter. In fact that's the most important detail on a filter and why they're called "filter" in the first place.
In that sense they tag along with pretty much all other filters.
Have that in mind before going all hype for "high performance", "high flow" and all the other marketing jargon.
5/10/20 Microns that's the usual range of filtering for machinery and automotive applications. With 20 being quite common in most cars, particularly when using minerals oils.
Synthetic oils tend to be thinner as such usually allow to go for smaller range, like 5 or 10. There's a lot more to the story, but this is the basics that most should be aware.
In this particular case, being a cheap low performance single cylinder engine. Tells a different story, the fact the "new" ones don't even have a filter confirm it. In fact that's more due to cost... But that's another story. :-)
      Cheers
