    That was the perfect oil drain upgrade for that machine. On my 07 Cub Cadet GT 2550 22 hp vertical Koher Command, I went with 116-4924 3/8" NPT Engine Drain Port Oil Changing Hose, 0.67” / 17mm, 18" Length. The plastic drain valve finally went caput while doing my end of season oil and filter change. 500 hours and 17 years is not bad for one of those junk drain valves. Your video was very well done, and I am sure a great help to others.

    Grear job on the oil change. I was having a problem getting the drain valve to come out to start the drain. I also had that part get loose like yours so I'm going to change it over to the J D style. I like it because it is longer.

    Really nice video, I have had several of those original oil drains leak where they are screwed into the block, and several are lose. Need the crow foot wrench to tighten them. I agree with you and change the original ones. Thanks

    I have an 2017 XT2 and my oil drain is a black hose with a nut on the end which works great as it clears the frame as well. Also, my service manual it came with says to change the oil every 100 hrs which I think is nuts. I do mine at 50 which is about a seasons worth of use for me. Thanks for the video. Cheers.

      I got an XT2 from last year and the manual says 300 hours, which feels insane to me. The machine is new (never changed oil) but the quick drain valve is already leaking.

    Purchased that tube and installed it today. Used the same paste for the threads as well. The only difference was that I used Royal Purple and added 1 1/2 oz of Motorkote to the mix. And did a thorough clean up of the engine bay and regreased the front axles and rack. I used 1 1/2 quarts plus the 1 1/2 oz of Motorkote, and ran it for a bit and it topped off perfect. I will check it again tomorrow to see if it settled any. Thanks a MILLION for the great tutorial! And Happy 4th to ya! And to add, I actually was able to unscrew that original drain plug with my fingers, that's how bad mine was! My Kohler is an older model than yours. My oil filter is up in the back of the motor facing up and down, not sideways like yours. But everything worked fine and the tilting tip was spot on!!! True life saver!

    Thank you, Mr. Johnson. I was curious about what my, 2018 Cub Cadet XT1 Enduro series, tractor, oil plug looked like. I looked and it was different from the one you were working on. I have a Kohler engine on mine. It has the filter hanging down and a 6 inch rubber tube from the motor, with an oil plug on the end. But I want to Thank you because, I had changed the oil about 10 running hours ago, and had not tighten the filter tight enough, it was leaking a little. So, Thanks. BTW I Always check my oil level before starting my engine.

    Great video. My oil drain wasn't leaking through the drain, but from the threaded end. Couldn't be tightened because it's too close to the frame. Replaced it with the John Deere drain, very simple operation. Thanks for the advice. Also, you're using the high dollar Kohler oil filter, but not the equally ridiculously priced Kohler oil. What's your opinion on using the STP S 3614 or Fram PH 3614 filter?

    • @JohnsonsSmallEngines
      @JohnsonsSmallEngines  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      My opinion, as long as you’re changing the oil and oil filter at regular intervals, you do not need to use the most expensive oil filter.

  • @macmccollum6064
    @macmccollum6064 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Great video. Got a John Deere oil drain ordered. What about the air filter? When changing the air filter, do you recommend oiling the pre-cleaner, as the instructions advise? Some oil it, some don't. What do you think?

    That steering rod looked a little loose when you were installing that new oil drain tube. Is that natural with those mowers? I thought at first you took apart part of steering rod for easier access, but you showed how you turned the steering wheel without the steering rod interfering with the new drain tube. Interesting.

    Any chance you could do an in depth video of trans fluid change on those? My 2018 XT1 46LT is coming up on 300hrs, would really like to change the trans fluid, sucks you gotta pull the trans to do it.

    • @JohnsonsSmallEngines
      @JohnsonsSmallEngines  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I’m sure there is a video on performing that task but in my experience with the transmissions. As long as your using your machine as designed the transmissions that have no drain plug in my opinion are as they say ”non serviceable “. I have a loaner Craftsman lawn tractor that has over 1200 hrs on it and the oil has never been changed in the transmission. The transmission is fine. I have not performed a removal and transmission flush due to cost. A customer is not going to pay hundreds of dollars for that service in a shop. The machine normally will wear out before the transmissions in most cases. This is my opinion and my experiences through the years.

      @@JohnsonsSmallEngines Thanks for the reply. I'm big on maintenance, do my own, change stuff out, probably before it needs to be, lol. Always take my leaf blower first, then my air compressor for harder to reach areas like the trans fan, I keep all debris off it. And maybe you know what I'm talking about, but that dang channel, under your foot for reverse, dumbest design ever, lol. Learned long ago, when I thought my trans was going bad cause trying to reverse was no bueno, lol, got to feeling around and dang grass clippings had built up in that little, hidden channel, been perfect once I put that into my clean-up routine👍

    Do you happen to know what thread size and type the replacement Deere pipe is? I want to remove Old Yellar and just install a pipe with a 90* elbow and a plug. It'll be quick enough for me. Be real cheap if it was NTP but it doesn't look like NTP. MIP? Maybe...

Unmitigated disaster. 4-mo old and I'm taking the mower to the service shop today. It appears to me that the fixture was not properly installed at the factory. Let's see how this goes.

    FYI If you have an XT1 w/ the fuel injected Cub Cadet branded motor DO NOT attempt this oil drain plug switch. My oil drain is on the opposite side of the oil filer unlike this video. The steering linkage can contact and break the oil drain plug on the extended john deere version and cause a pressurized oil disaster mid-mow. DO NOT USE ON XT1 AND CHECK FOR STEERING CLEARANCE IF YOU DO THIS MOD
