    Good video, I've found a new place to lubricate (the front bushings).
    I have a 2018 CC30H with the 382cc MTD engine. I had to put a new steering repair kit, in 2021, on mine since the metal toothed plate that engages the steering column gear became worn, since there was no plastic backing support piece to keep it properly engaged to the steering column gear. The steering repair kit part number is (753-11064B) and contains a the plastic backing support piece, so apparently MTD/Cub Cadet knew it was a problem and made this retrofit kit. It runs about $65-$75, so I did it myself. I didn't investigate the warranty since I didn't have time to mess around.
    In order to help with oil changes, I added a Stens 125-508 Oil Drain Plug. You just fit 1/2" hose over it and turn and pull the plug and oil flows out nicely into a drain pan. It was quite a mess for my first oil change without it. They give you some little plastic gutter thing to direct the oil flow, but it was useless in my opinion.

    I have the less expensive Home Depot Club Cadet. Like you say, there is a $400 difference between the mowers, yet they are identical except for the motor. Mine has the Kohler motor, the more expensive mower has the Briggs. I would prefer the Briggs because they've been around forever and maybe parts are easier to source for them. But for $400 more, the cheaper Home Depot model suits my needs.

I am looking at this mower (for my yard ,a smaller unit like this with the rear engine this is the best way to go I think) and watching your video made me a little leery. Great video, thanks for taking the time to create such a straightforward video . I have the Cub Cadet Cc 30H version and have few questions. First, how high from the ground should the deck be in the fully raised position. Secondly, is the height of the deck adjustable. I’ve had my mower 3 years and recently have noticed that even in th highest position, it’s cutting way too short. Appreciate and advice you can offer.

    • @IndRepair
      @IndRepair  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Leveling details start at about 10:45, just one adjustable nut. Normally 3 1/2" to 4" max on these mowers at highest height setting. They will drop sometimes over the years. You want the deck just slightly lover in the front for best cutting. 1/8" is fine just slightly lower

    I've had Briggs before, and had problems with them. A few years ago I decided to buy an inexpensive MTD made Remington mower with a 140cc Chinese made engine in it. It was supposed to tide me over for a couple of years before I moved. Well, I didn't move, and the Remington has proven to be the most reliable mower I've every owned, and I've owned Honda, Toro, Snapper and Lawnboy machines. That little engine starts up one pull, has lots of guts, uses very little gas . . . what else could you ask for? I would buy the cheaper CC no questions asked.

    • @IndRepair
      @IndRepair  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sometimes cheap and simple is good as if not better than overengineered with good pr and brand recognition.

      @@IndRepair Hey, I forgot to mention that I enjoyed the video very much! I'm looking into these machines because I have 1/4 acre and am getting older. It looks like they offer the automatic H version, and also a manual "shift on the fly" version. I weigh about 240 lbs, and I understand the automatic tranny's are a weak point in lawn tractors . . . do you think the manual trannies are more robust and reliable?

    • @IndRepair
      @IndRepair  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The automatic hydro transmission is much better. The "shift on the go" is basically cheap torque converter that they call a shift on the go. Really only has 1 gear. Get the hydro, it will last for regular mowing on 1/4 acre just fine.

    Very helpful video. I did a fuel filter change on my Cub Cadet and had some difficulty getting the old filter out. When it did come loose, the tubing that runs above the fuel line became disconnected. Or where it's supposed to go? TY

    Have you worked on the troy built or craftsman models of this same mower? The craftsman is the cheapest right now. Were trying to decide which mower to go with. Considering the ryobi electric 30 inch as well. Or maybe a 34 inch zero turn. Do you have any thoughts on those? We have a small gate to get through which is why we need the smaller mower

    • @IndRepair
      @IndRepair  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There is no adjustment on the tension unfortunately. They stay under constant spring tension which should be plenty for the life of the belt. I don't see them stretch enough to slip at all so not really a need for a tension adjustment

The MTD engines seem better with the pressurized lube and filter but the Briggs and Stratton look like they're easier to service. Best vid ive found so far on this model.
    CC says there is no adjustment of the idler pulley, but also to make sure it is properly installed. They don't really show what that looks like.
    I feel like my idler pulley isn't right, as the blade never stops spinning. It certainly slows down but doesn't fully disengage. Pulley moves freely/isn't bound up.
    Seems to me there is a lot of additional range of motion for that pulley to travel after I move the pto lever all the way up/disengage. At least based on being able to manipulate the pulley with the handle on it.
    Any ideas?

      @Individualized Repair unit is about 4 years old (not sure off top of my head). Cable and spring look good. The pulley brake has a wear mark on it but doesn't seem super low. I could replace that just to check it off the list.
      I am thinking likely a bent bracket at this point, from your suggestion. The brackets for engage/disengage don't seem to be moving the idler pulley mechanism and/or the brake pad on the main pulley very far. But these are all guesses. No idea what the tolerances are for either.
      I'll bend some brackets and see what happens. Any recommendations for where to get quality replacement parts at a fair price?

      Remove one bolt holding the battery bracket on top. Next remove negative wire, then positive wire. Reinstall battery/bracket. Install positive wire on new battery, then reinstall negative wire.

    I'll tell you a secret about these riders. They are ALL mfg by MTD, or, at least MTD imports them.
    (I suspect these are foreign made) there are 8 different ones. orange Cub Cadet, red Craftsman, red Troy-Bilt, red Murray, orange Columbia, MTD used to sell a red one, but no more,and there is an UK model in bright yellow & a EU version in dark green. each uses various engines & transmissions. Mine is a TB30-CA with a chinese engine & california emissions controls.

  • @andybecker2693
    @andybecker2693 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    These mowers and their clones are made for a certain price point. Even so, the deck might as well be cardboard because if you’re not careful, you’ll most certainly destroy it. And the steering rack and pinion setup fails quickly and YOU have to pay for the steering upgrade. $2000? There is no way I would pay that for the Briggs engine. I would steer clear of ANYTHING MTD. Any shop owner will tell you that they love MTD because it’s guaranteed business.

      Yeah but what's your alternative 30" mower? Some only have gates so large

    • @andybecker2693
      @andybecker2693 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@IndRepair Many Companies make affordable 34-36” zero turns around the $2500 to $3000 range that are way better quality. The commercial guys have the same 34 to 36 inch size decks to get through the smaller gates. Another option. Try to find a Snapper 30 even though they guilt making them in ‘21.

    • @IndRepair
      @IndRepair  ปีที่แล้ว

      Snapper 30" was the option I always recommended before. Toro 32" Zero turn is closest I can offer recommendations for now and the deck isnt made much better...Many older homes have only 30-36" gates which can make it quite difficult for elderly to get through

    • @andybecker2693
      @andybecker2693 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@IndRepair Yea, those small decks are almost always stamped steel. The Toro 32”” would be a good alternative to the MTD 30” clones if you can spend a little more money.

    • @johnfowler6189

      Shopped every dealer within a 50 mile radius of me and the only alternative was a Toro 36" zero turn. 4 dealers wanted $3,500 and one had a"demo" unit for $3,200. Lowes had a conventional type rider craftsman 36" for $2,200 that's been sitting on their floor for about 6 months.
      Not much to choose from. Can't see spending $3,500 to cut a 1/4 acre lot.
