@Thelorerunner another great example of story without dialogue is the intro to the Pixar movie UP. The animators of that movie told one of the best love stories of all time without a word, while at the same time showing us exactly who Karl and Ellie were. I would argue that the lack of dialogue makes it have more impact and resonance than some narrator chiming in like we were playing The Stanley Parable. Perfect example of show don't tell!!!
I remember playing a demo of this game in a Gamestop or something. It was a Ridley boss fight and I thought it was super cool. I didnt end up getting the game because back then I didnt really have much money, but I was surprised to start hearing lots of negative things about it. I sometimes get really skeptical when i hear that kind of thing, and in the case of this game I assumed people's complaints about Samus not using certain gear because of Adam was her being a badass like "Watch this, I don't even need that upgrade." But actually seeing all this for real is very eye-opening lol
It's great to see you back in the swing of things Lore, strange to say it but I've never seen or play the Metroid game. So this is going to be my first one ever. Great beginning cutscene, then I saw what you meant in the intro when I was then transported into exposition land by a female Ben Stein. Great first impressions😅. Welcome back by the way
Random thoughts from watching: - Wait, how did the tech polish Samus' armour if she was in Zero Suit mode when she woke up? How much knowledge of and control over the unique one-of-a-kind alien tech Samus and no other being within the Federation is equipped with does the Federation have? And if they're that good with it, how come no-one has managed to replicate it yet? - The emulation is really not doing the game any favours. I've 100%ed the game a few times (most recently a couple of years ago) and I've never had as much trouble with basic controls. The first-person-but-not section makes sense with the actual control scheme - in order to actually aim, you'd have to point the wiimote at the screen which puts it into first-person mode anyway - so there's no need for a special mode override for that section (which could cause unpredictable effects from the wiimote being swung around while not pointing at the screen). - When it comes to kit reset, a couple of examples from other game series come to mind: one of the things Banjo Tooie does right is starting you out with everything you unlocked during Kazooie, and just adding to it. Or Soul Reaver 2, if memory serves, keeps all but the final ability you unlocked in Soul Reaver (which makes sense since it was originally the second half of the latter before it got split for length). At the other extreme, the Kingdom Hearts series doesn't just reset Sora's power level for each numbered entry; it spends entire games in between them justifying his power loss. At least KH3 built an excuse for Sora's inevitable nerfing for KH4 into its own climax.

Oh this series of streams is going to be fun!

Looking forward to this block. Pretty much blind on this series.
Wooot!!! Metroid Block!
Yaaaay metroid time
now I remember why i ignored this game when it came out 😅
Hey Lore, what happened with your F4 playthrough? I was in the middle of it.
All the old videos are still visible on the website Archives page.
You should analyze Valkyria chronicles 4.
Then fund it.
4 before 1?
Oof, I forgot how downright _painful_ the writing is for this game.
Like, this is "tell, don't show" to the Nth degree. It actually is producing a disgust response in me, and I'm only at the part where we meet Anthony.
I disagree with your take on the first person mode: it's only awful when played on original rather than emulator.
Magical girl Samus, lol. She's one of the reasons why I figured out I'm trans, so thanks Nintendo.
A fun stream!
