Blows me away how 1994 Super Metroid has all these extra movements like mockballing, wall jumping, damage clipping, momentum preservation, etc, and just enough open world freedom to make it a perfect storm for speedrunning. Watching this you would think the game was designed with absurd speedruns in mind, but it wasn't. Super Metroid is a spiritual victory of game design.
I've never seen Goats so happy. The pure emotions seen here are so raw. You can tell how genuinely happy he is. I'm kinda a poor guy, so I normally don't ever donate. But after seeing such a massive achievement from him, I'm gonna send him a donation for the first time to show my support. What a fucking legend.

I remember as a kid thinking that I was probably one of the best people in the world at Super-Metroid because I had beaten it in under an hour in-game time. Initially, I felt pretty inadequate as a gamer when I found the speedrunning community and GDQ, but it's been amazing to see so many people even more passionate about these games than me. Thanks for showcasing all this cool stuff through the years and for fostering the community around this game and the various randomizers, remixes, and hacks of it. You've def earned this WR. I wasn't able to watch live, but have certainly watched over the last year plus and watched the progression as you chipped away at your PBs and then this WR. I can honestly say I choked up a bit watching your reaction at the end. You can 100% FEEL the relief set in and the pressure dissipate into the air when you looked down at the time. So many variables, so many attempts, so much frustration and agony that we, as the viewer, don't necessarily understand. With that, I do think we all felt the same relief for you. The anxiety was always there when we watched a run that was pushing the WR pace. I hope this was your "goal time" and you can rest on Any% for the time being. Watching you crush a game I'm so fond of from my childhood, and even my adulthood, is one of the more satisfying things I've witnessed recently. I was watching Zeni when this all happened. Somebody came into chat and told us and we all came over. Congratulations on a flawless run. I know they always say there's room for improvement, but I reckon you'll hold this record for a very long time. Just an insane run. Well-deserved mate, a jaw dropping performance.
I think it’s so important to note that Oats throughout this entire run did not just sit there and play. He conversed with his chat, read it, interacted, and yes, focused in specific parts. But compared to Zoasty? It’s just insanely different and WAY more impressive to watch Oats speed run while multitasking and talking to his chat. It’s beautiful.
He's said that it helps him focus/not overthink....he's got a different type of brain for this thing and I think I can relate, maybe slightly ADD or whatever, similar idea For me he's a better speedrun streamer than most, since it's better if I want to catch a stream casually, he's a great speedrunner still while riffing with chat

Hope the best to you in the future. Funny thing.😂 I got the Lasik operation this february. What a coincidence. I had -2,5 on both eyes. For anyone thinking of doing it - don't feel pressured, inform yourself well and if it is for you and you personaly would and want to spend the money and sit through any of the eye operations do it. For me personaly it was worth it and I'm very happy with my descision.

@@airiakizuki5592it was a bad motherbrain cycle at the end that cost him 4 secs or so, when she dropped a bomb. He's got a strat that keeps him jumping and she won't drop one, but he said he was shaking too much and didn't trust himself to do it

I didn't know doing these Any% runs was so draining for Oats. It's awesome that he was able to beat the world record by more than 9 seconds. The tension and shaking towards the end was intense. I wasn't able to watch live, but have certainly watched over the last year plus and watched the progression as you chipped away at your PBs and then this WR. I can honestly say I choked up a bit watching your reaction at the end. You can 100% FEEL the relief set in and the pressure dissipate into the air when you looked down at the time. So many variables, so many attempts, so much frustration and agony that we, as the viewer, don't necessarily understand. With that, I do think we all felt the same relief for you. The anxiety was always there when we watched a run that was pushing the WR pace. I hope this was your "goal time" and you can rest on Any% for the time being. Watching you crush a game I'm so fond of from my childhood, and even my adulthood, is one of the more satisfying things I've witnessed recently. You, and the SM community are achieving things I never thought possible when I started playing this game almost two decades ago. Keep up the fantastic work, Oats. This community is behind you, for sure.

I was watching Zeni when this all happened. Somebody came into chat and told us and we all came over. Congratulations on a flawless run. I know they always say there's room for improvement, but I reckon you'll hold this record for a very long time. Just an insane run. Well-deserved mate, a jaw dropping performance.
I think it’s so important to note that Oats throughout this entire run did not just sit there and play. He conversed with his chat, read it, interacted, and yes, focused in specific parts. But compared to Zoasty? It’s just insanely different and WAY more impressive to watch Oats speed run while multitasking and talking to his chat. It’s beautiful.
He's said that it helps him focus/not overthink....he's got a different type of brain for this thing and I think I can relate, maybe slightly ADD or whatever, similar idea
For me he's a better speedrun streamer than most, since it's better if I want to catch a stream casually, he's a great speedrunner still while riffing with chat

Oats is the reason I started speedrunning games years ago. Being able to watch him get WR live was a special kind of catharsis for me. Major GGs for this insane run and all the incredible time, work, and effort put into making it happen.

Funny thing.😂 I got the Lasik operation this february. What a coincidence. I had -2,5 on both eyes. For anyone thinking of doing it - don't feel pressured, inform yourself well and if it is for you and you personaly would and want to spend the money and sit through any of the eye operations do it. For me personaly it was worth it and I'm very happy with my descision.
