Some German cars may perform better, but Lexus has Toyota’s reliability. If you are looking for a luxury car that doesn’t cost much in maintenance, Lexus is the way to go.

Purchased the exact same car five months ago, with luxury package, nav. and panaramic sunroof. It's a very comfortable/quiet and RELIABLE driver. When I want to go really fast and enjoy rowing gears with a top down, I hit the start button on my Corvette. I bought my Lexus because I've given up on German money pits, and Acura is a shell of its former self. The 2018 Lexus es350 has the 2GR FE engine which features forged internals. and a 6-speed auto. I'm expecting 200,000 miles of trouble free ownership. Good luck people, who buy cars with turbocharged 4 bangers with direct injection, start stop technology that have very high compression ratios and take premium gas. Those are very hi-stressed engines. Not good for reliability. Let's not forget those cvt and problematic 8-9 speed transmissions. I like tried-and-true technology for my daily driver.

J B I couldn’t agree more, German cars are EMPTY $ PITS ! As they age (5+ yrs) with high mileage (50k).. In July 2018 unfortunately i bought a BeautifulLOOKING 2013 X5 with 94k miles ... I didn’t do my HW prior to buying... i was woooeeed by the driving experience and fit & finish of the interior. Within 8 LONG months i sunk nearly $2,500 - $3k into it; front end work, leaking rear differential and a frozen door lock... Couldn’t sell it privately and traded it in for my BEAUTIFUL 2013 ES350 in April 2019 with only 30k miles !! It now has 36k miles and this one will last me 10+ years because of its super reliability/dependability of Toyota/Lexus !! I lost nearly 6K on that X5, SMH but had to get out of it FAST, a similar feeling to being on a sinking TITANIC!! I had knots in my stomach until i traded that piece of crap in !!
I watch Bill’s great review and his love affair for Mercedes (especially the S class) and I’m almost tempted to get lured in, but my head says NO!!! I just watched his lovely review of a 2006 S 350 and i looked on cars.com and you can pick one up for under 10k with only 50k miles ! Just too unreliable and the parts and labor will bankrupt you faster then COVID19..
Like you I’m expecting 200k + miles on my ES350... i also have the Lux package wth NAv. I don’t use it as a commuter, only put 6k miles on it one yr of ownership. I do my own oil changes; The original owner replaced the OEM (probably Michelins) with these crappy Hancook Tires... they have about 10k miles left on them so I’ll keep them until they’re shot. tracking the age too, they’re dated early 2016, so I have until Spring 2022 before they get removed..
My goal is to get a 2016 C7 Stingray as i get closer to retirement in about 4 years! I agree with you, The ES350 is for comfort and straight line cruising... Ill be firing up my C7 when i want to get aggressive and feel the road !!

You are so right! The Lexus still feels like something special and different from Toyota. However, it seems like the Acura and the Infiniti just becomes a loaded version of their cheaper versions. I sat in a Infinity for sale that really felt like a nice Nissan. Same with Acuras are too similar to Honda. I read that the main difference is Lexus doesn't skimp on insulation. I can believe this as I have owned many of each brand over the years.

My 2013 ES350 only has 36k miles now, bought it in April 2019 with only 30k. THe original owner must’ve only drove it to church on Sundays, LOL.. only averaged about 4K miles/yr. ! Best car ive ever owned and this is car #20 since I turned 17 in 1981 ! The ride is amazing, the fit & finish is unparalleled... solid, nothing creaks ... THe original owner took delivery on August 2012, it’ll be 8 years old in a couple of months and its as solid as it was new ! I’ll be keeping this until the wheels fall off !! which will be never ! I only most bought a Avalon or Camry instead but there’s no comparison to a Lexus not even within the Toyota brand.
This review is pretty spot on... as he said the ES isn’t his favorite model and it showed when he spoke of the back seat..

I have to admit I loved the tale you told about how the dealership got this car. It has "Forgive me, for I have sinned." written all over it.
That said, I have to split hairs with you about the sort of person who drives one of these. I don't think that someone who doesn't care about driving would spend the money to buy one of these. I'd say that it is largely for someone who doesn't like racing all the time, or the appearance of loving to do so. You analogized the car to a '72 Cadillac. I agree, and would add that the Cadillac was hardly a sports car, but if you didn't care about driving at all, but needed the room, a '72 Chevrolet Bel Air would have done the job as well, for much less cost.
As it happens. I recently tried out the hybrid version of this car. A few years older than this, so it doesn't have the spindle grille, so the front end is unendingly generic. The interior design is what works for me, I'm kind of fond of that period of Lexus interior design, that mouse controller aside. It's not as fast as the ES350, but still fast enough to run and hide from my brother's tarted up, but mechanically stock Dodge Ram pickup. I found it quiet, meaning it was amazing the things I didn't hear, but it was not flawlessly so. Or perhaps the car hasn't ended up in my hands that allows one not to hear the loud exhaust or radio of the next car over in traffic.
In one review I've encountered, either video or written, I'd seen this car described as a car for someone of a certain maturity, a certain dignity.

Meanwhile, in the background I see an ancient MG looking car with tacky 70's era generic chrome wheels, an old 90s era junker Mustang, a Mini overdone with racing stripes and so on. The Lexus looks to be the classiest car on the lot.
I had to LOL when he commented that the little hidden compartment could be used to "hide drugs". At least he gave an honest personal review. He definitely has the personality of a used car salesman at one of those shady neighborhood car lots. @egold2071 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

I too was mystified by the Canadian reference. Finally I caught a video that explained it, but I can't remember which one. Anyways, the legend was born when some large group of Canadians came to Naples. Not sure if it was some convention, or just vacation time. The story is that they were all very chipper and excited to visit Florida, and they all rented Camaro and Mustang convertibles. Live it up American style in Florida, right? So over this week or two period, all Bill would see are these convertibles, roof down, with 2 or 3 Canadians jammed in the back seat. No complaints or discomfort. They were all smiles and giggles, wide eyed and chipper, despite being crammed knees to ears in these convertibles.
And that's how the legend was born. Bill will be discussing anything from a tiny 911's rear seat, to a Sienna's glovebox... 'Well you won't fit much here. Eh you can probably stuff a couple Canadians in there, I'm sure they'll be chipper!'

So, Lexus is a car for people who don't like to drive, wow Einstein wonder why it continues to outsell all the "driver-centric" vehicles, like the E-class, BMW and Audi's. Must be a whole lot out folk out here that are absolutely miserable driving their ESs. The funny thing is, no matter how much these euro-centric reviewers put down the ES, it remains the top selling luxury brand in it's class, for how many years, 10, 15??. When this clown can figure out why the ES remains on top, then "maybe" he can give us an unbiased review. BMW,, Mercedes and Audis are the cars you lease, Lexus is the car you buy!!

Yes, your right Lexus is the car you buy. And it has nothing to do with it being fun car to drive you moron. It is in fact not a fun car to drive. I currently own a F sport GS and there is nothing "sport" about it.
Nobody, including this "clown" as you put it needs to "figure" out why Lexus is a top seller, everybody knows. Lexus is a top seller because it's a fancy Toyota(reliable)

I have a 2014 ES 350 and it has a good engine and ride. But Im trading her in for more of a performance based German 2 Door. Not sure witch one yet. But Im tired of the no fun factor with my Lexus. Bill u are on correct about this car. Miss my 77 Cutless Supreme.

To Mercedes loyalists, Lexus is the enemy. People complained about the Maybach 57 having the same steering wheel and instrument cluster as the S-Class but won't complain about all the Toyota buttons in a Lexus

    • @colinschmitz8297
      @colinschmitz8297 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

The price of a Lexus is what an extra 30% vs a Toyota equivalent. If Maybach costs twice as much as Mercedes or more, I can see why people would hold a Bentley/ Rolls Royce competitor to a higher standard than a Lincoln/Cadillac competitor.

This is ugly in my opinion. If you don’t have a LS, you don’t have nothing. The old school ES and GS were nice. Never cared about the IS. They are baby momma cars just like Honda Civic’s.

My 2017 Buick LaCrosse AWD was made to rival this. It surpasses it in every category, performance, handling, ride,as well as looks. 0 to 60 for the Lexus,7sec.s,Buick 5.4sec.s. As for the 350 F-Sport it ain’t much quicker. The Lexus Is a quality car, don’t get me wrong, but they are everywhere driven by soulless people
