2018 Lexus LS500 F-Sport - An Athletic Twin Turbo Executive Sedan?

  • Downsizing makes its way to the flagship Lexus sedan where the old V8 is gone to make room for an all-new twin turbocharged 3.5L V6. With over 400 horses, a quick-shifting 10-speed transmission, and the magical GA-L platform to make this the most fun big Lexus sedan we've ever driven. The 5th generation Lexus LS will undoubtably shake up the full-size luxury sedan segment. Europe should take notice once again.

    I own a Mercedes, and to me, the S-class was always the top of the line when it came to interior---perfection! Not a single car could touch the complete package offered by the current S-class...until I sat in the new LS! The interior quality and fit-and-finish leagues above what current standards are in my opinion. I'm used to Mercedes' Comand system, so the setup in the LS seemed odd and not easy quick and easy to use, but I think you could get used to it until you get proficient the way I got used to my car. What's most impressive was how I fell in love with an LS500 that was in the showroom floor. I was looking at the details inside and out, and hadn't really bothered to look at the price because I was expecting it to be ~$100k. I was shocked to find out the price for it was only $88K!! Blew my mind!! I love Mercedes, but this LS will be my next car!!

    Incredible! One thing to note is that this is really the only sporty full size luxury sedan available for under six figures. Sure, the Germans will gladly sell you an S63/65, S8, or M760Li, but this is serious bang for the buck. And I stand by my golden rule - lease a German, buy a Japanese (read: reliability, something most reviewers don't take into consideration).

      @Joshua Jacob well no shit it was. but technology changes. They already had a awesome v6 twin turbo engine in the LS with 416 hp, and they could have used the RC F or LC body and redesign the exterior. But instead went with a BMW german body and engine. The NSX with a v6 twin turbo.

    • @hls30000
      @hls30000 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Joshua Jacob the new NSX is still better than the old one in every aspect. People are too stupid and want nastlgia instead of improvement, that and is overpriced with all the options its almost 200,000$. I've worked on cars for over 20 years, ask any real car enthusiast who actual works on them, they tell you the same thing, doesn't matter if the new supra was replaced with the v6 twin turbo, at least that engine is still a toyota.

    • @hls30000
      @hls30000 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Joshua Jacob just the heads on the 2jz, Real enthusiast dont stay with old tech, that stupid. Dumb argument saying a real supra is a straight six, not a v6. Its still a 6 cylinder engine.

Other than some of the top systems from MB and maybe Audi, car companies really don't do them right. Many of the maps and graphics look like 2004 instead of 2018.

    This is a dream vehicle hands down. For a 30's aged man...this with a non-digger wife with a child seat in the rear...is enough for a dreamer to strive for. I'm sure a Panamera or an Audi S7 vehicle...or even some high class Mercedes Lux class would fill that void....it's hard not to appreciate the Lexus LS class and live in comfort that this vehicle will perform and create that lux comfort bubble that this vehicle will provide for them. With that said.....I'm lower level class and this vehicle is a dream. I don't care if this review down plays the look of the LS400....it was still the quintessential baby carrier with spunk to have mom and dad in the front piloting. Love the Lexus class LS.

    What a beauty! People that buy crossovers that don't need it are morons. Worse performance, poor fuel economy, and that's the worse combination. I'm glad Lexus has done such a great job with the new LS. I'd like to drive one to check out the new engine.

    They need to bring this engine down into the IS, GS, and RC, lop off a turbo and offer it as a 400 model between the the 350 models (perhaps replacing it) and the F models.

    Our new LS 500 is an undisputed pinnacle of our entire team of engineers, designers and takumis (our master artisans and craftsmen).
    There will be more and more surprises and shocks coming within auto industry, reviewers, critics as well as general public very soon. Our engineers' and designers' ideas and imagination as to design concepts were finally unleashed by their being given freedom and independence they had so desperately needed for so long. LEXUS did not want to be tied to Toyota anymore, and the outcome began to finally show itself. Akio Toyoda's passionate and unwavering support for LEXUS success as a luxury brand certainly does not hurt.
    LF-LC design concept started it, LC 500 picked up where LF-LC concept left off, all ending with stunningly looking LC 500. However, LS 500 is in the category of its own. Our team managed to put together a masterpiece of a vehicle, which combines the handling (performance, dynamics, horsepower) with the famous serene, whisper quiet ride and unmatched comfort and luxury and, let's not forget, the famous reliability and dependability. This is the most difficult task for any manufacturer to accomplish. Germans and others have never been able to execute this extremely difficult task. Yet, our team of the very best of the best in each category of vehicle assembly, which is necessary for producing such a masterpiece of a vehicle, was able to execute the goal of making LS 500 once again the leader of the luxury segment after nearly 20 years with mind-boggling precision. Only a team of fully dedicated and proud geniuses could have pulled off such a feat.
    LEXUS will become the best selling luxury brand in my country of the United States in very near future. It is not a matter of "if" but "when." Watch for more stunning design concepts to come out in the coming years, which then will be turned into production ready designs. There is no stopping LEXUS now, LEXUS will keep plowing through their competition. It has just happened so with LS 500, which simply can be matched by no auto manufacturer in the world. Even the new Mercedes Benz S-class pales in comparison.

    The question is... Is this "all-new twin turbocharged 3.5L V6" reliable? I don't care if it's "all-new", if I did, I would choose a German competitor. I care about it not ending in the shop after the warranty ends. That's why I would buy a Lexus.

    • @ricepredator
      @ricepredator 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Boba Fett given how the first batch usually goes, it’s probably going to experience some issues. I’d advise against buying something that’s generation 0 essentially in terms of engine design. Also, these turbos are now developed in-house, so the quality control SHOULD be better....

      This LS will easily smoke every single full size sedan with any type of V6 engine. It's actually even faster than the twin turbo v8 S550 and is just a tick slower than the turbo v8 7 Series.
      This LS vs turbo V8 competitors is a much closer and better comparison than comparing this to the V6's from those cars.

    • @tails300
      @tails300 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Isn’t it just a Toyota 3.5L with some turbos added? I’m pretty sure all they had to do was reinforce the components to handle the added boost. I mean the 3.5L v6 has been around a long time 🤷🏾‍♂️.

    I applaud Lexus for trying so hard with all controversial exterior and interior design and material used. No other manufacturer would give you a choice of pattern and texture at this price point. The mode selector beside the gauge cluster really spoils the clean lines of the dash though. You can't help but stare at them everytime you drive this car. The best part about this car is really the back seat though. A big let down is no folding rear seats or even a ski pass through. Amazing car nonetheless. I would love to be driven in one!

I hope they can bring back a high tune V8 to compete with the top of the line S class and 7 series. Lexus does not quite compete in the drive train power.

    You should please elaborate on what tech you think the Germans have that isn't in this car. You sound like a novice when you make that statement without backing it up. All I heard u say was the graphics of the map I.e probably Google earth view that's on the new Audi. Seriously is this what you consider more tech? This car has the largest HUD that's high definition and full colour that displays a wide variety of information not even available in the competition. This car has massaging function for the thigh extension what's not available in the competition. This car has safety features and so much autonomous driving and braking features like in most of its rivals and even has one that's a world first. Yet the only thing you mentioned clearly is the graphics of the map view cause your hand was waving around the infotainment system at the time. There's so much technology in this car, this car even has the controls for that executive seating like the BMW 7 series with full touch capabilities something not on the S class. The hype and bias behind the S class by some of the journalists is shocking to say the least. U didn't even talk about the wide range of materials including the pleat designed doors with silk available in this car. Something non of the competition has. You forget this is a luxury sedan and those are the things that matter most. Comfort and luxury finishing are top most priority in any luxury flagship. Rolls Royce Phantom now has glass materials in it something this Lexus debuted first. Be more objective, even if u must criticise or say where the Germans are ahead in your opinion also state where this Lexus is as well compared to them and there's alot of it.
